Afternoon All,
We're doing more work on the interface at the moment, trying to shrink down the header and updating the icons and style :

Thanks, adam.

I'm ambivalent about menu & icon changes, but i wouldn't want to see the device/port summary disappear. I trust it will make an appearance elsewhere?
Paul
I've not been able to work out where to put it. I was thinking of having a similar 'menu bar' across the bottom of the screen with status information, but my initial attempts at making this useful failed.

The proposed new look is nice and clean.
My users (and I) kind of wish there was a persistent search bar somewhere on the page (probably up the top somewhere). Because we search for devices a lot and it would be quicker to have a persistent search bar rather than have to navigate to the devices page every time we need it.
Looking at the page though I'm not sure there is enough page real-estate left to support this... Maybe a small text box in-between "Routing" and the Settings drop-down?

There is actually a search box on the new navbar in the code, but it's commented out because it doesn't fit.
I've already removed the 'packages' menu from the bar. I'm thinking of moving "locations" to a submenu of "devices".
Proper search functionality is on the list, but I think it's quite a big project to make it work how i want it to :

How about in a customisable block in the home page, like the map & eventlog?
Paul
That would be ridiculously trivial to do, but it wouldn't be on all pages, only the homepage.

Once i remove the extra space at the top it should be pretty much the same height as the old front page + header was, and you'll still gain the extra space on other pages.
not to mention that it potentially removes a lot of sql queries from other pages (generating that overview takes a lot of queries)

IMO, it doesn't need to be on all pages, just on an easily-accessible page. Others may feel differently, though... _______________________________________________ observium mailing list observium@observium.org http://postman.memetic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/observium
This looks quite sweet.
Unified search is something I also would very much like; we can start by searching for devices through that box, I think. It's what I [would] use most; followed by fdb table mac search :)

I don't think it'll be very slow at all. the SQL queries are quick, even if we're searching a bunch of tables I doubt it'll be terribly noticeable.

Looks awesome. :)
Will be interesting to see how it performs with hundreds of devices (I have > 1000).

Unified search is something I also would very much like; we can start by
searching for devices through that box, I think. It's what I [would] use
most; followed by fdb table mac search :)

Once i remove the extra space at the top it should be pretty much the same height as the old front page + header was, and you'll still gain the extra space on other pages.
not to mention that it potentially removes a lot of sql queries from other pages (generating that overview takes a lot of queries)
