Hi I have made systemd files for Observium. This makes it simplare to log from poller or discovery. It also adds a Max runtime control. It should probably be a max runtime per device.

Cool! How does it handle when poller or discovery is still running when its time to start a new process? Like when polling takes more than 5min for some reason?

The "RuntimeMaxSec=290", will kill the process after 290 seconds. You can read about it her: https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/systemd.service.html
It is better that is handled by the script, but i don't know how to add it, to the poller.php scipt.

Will it allow multiple concurrent processes?
*do not* auto-kill a poller process like this, it’ll just result in a bunch of decices never being polled :D

No, I think.
I had one device hang during polling on several occasions. And the time will wait (before the runetimemax) , og I logged the "the Poller duration exceeded 300s... ", and the timer waited for the old procces.
In my experience only the device that hangs, is the only one not polled. But I currently only up to 120 sec totalt time.
But a setting for like 150% * normal avg for a device, log warning. And 300% * normal avg with log error and kill sub- procces. Would make it possible to not allow one device, making trouble for others.

I don't think this is a good idea because there are possibilities that devices take longer than 300s to finish - for example a fully populated Nexus 5K with > 1300 ports in total
