Hello team,
i have question about create link in observium for open in new tab GUI of device config
for example if iam in Device Overview, create some Icon or Text link to open New Tab for Device GUI configuration HTTP? Or SSH plugin https://addons.mozilla.org/EN-us/firefox/addon/firessh/

We have limited space on the device navbar, but we could perhaps put these in a drop-down menu from an icon

Perfect timing. I was just recently thinking about how convenient it would be to be able to do one-click to connect to a device.

now we are using Observium for inventory and now i must find specific switch in Observium, copy link or opne NEw Tab and get Config.

The solution below is a really constrained (only on Windows, only IE, only with putty and only putty put on the root of the C: drive).
I would think a simple ssh://host.domain.name link would suffice.
And if possible rdp:// http:// vnc:// and maybe smb:// links should accompany the ssh entry.
And the drop down menu would be perfect, it shouldn't take too much space, but be available.

I'd prefer if they were only shown on devices wo which they applied, so I think I'd make them an OS type attribute, so you'd only show rdp on windows, etc.

I agree, less is more, but how would O determine what to use on devices that were routers or switches or something that had WebUI and/or telnet and/or ssh CLI, where either one was user configurable?
Perhaps a configurable default; an array that you could specify OS' and/or host names? Ya, fuck me too. That's getting complicated :)
I guess as long as there is room for it in the database, it'd be trivial to run a post-discovery script to add whatever URL was appropriate if you wanted to overwrite whatever O thought was an acceptable default.

olso, almost nobody with more than a bunch of device configured on observium will manage them directly from the laptop where they run the browser... :-)
This is certainly true for me, and I suspect most other ISP/telco people, hence the feature never being in Observium before.
It's probably quite common in the enterprise and small business space though, where people are more likely to manage things via VPN tunnels rather than via central bastion hosts.
One thing that's happened over time is that our primary user base has diversified from being mostly small ISPs and hosting companies to being much broader, these days covering governments, universities, retail outfits, and even the odd space exploration company!
It's pretty difficult to satisfy everyone, so things like this probably don't make sense to some users, but seem like no-brainers to others!
Either way, it'll probably be a configurable feature!

I would think most probably using the existing OS definitions, adding the ability to specify if a device supports certain protocols.
I really dislike the thought of offering telnet connection to windows 10 and rdp connections to cisco nexus switches, so the only way I'd implement this is with a mechanism to define certain protocols for certain oses.
We like to do things properly. :)
