So my assumption (the files simply have to exist in /opt/observium/mibs or(?) /opt/observium/mibs/[vendor]) is correct. So the only question is how to verify that the correct MIB file gets used for a specific device. Is there a dedicated log entry available?

I'm not sure what your question is about, but we can probably all say that you're mistaken about what you're trying to accomplish.

No, they don't need to be compiled.

We use the MIBs whenever we have code written for it. The MIBs are shipped with Observium, so they're in the right place automatically.

MIBs are a road map, not a means of transportation.
