Eaton Network Card-MS on Observium Pro
Having an an issue with observium pro showing less stuff and stuff looking broken after updating the firmware a couple of versions on Eaton Network Card-MS.
The interface names look wrong and seeing stuff such as:
Output Source Status deleted: xupsOutputSource xupsOutputSource.3.3 Output Source Battery Status Status deleted: xupsBatteryAbmStatus xupsBatteryAbmStatus.3.3 Battery Status Inverter Off Status Alert: ups1.lndo.kambi.com Inverter Off entered ALERT state: No (previous: Yes)
According to the changelog there has been a mib change but I'm not sure when that happened. Changelog of the firmware: http://pqlit.eaton.com/ll_download_bylitcode.asp?doc_id=34077
All firmwares http://powerquality.eaton.com/Support/Software-Drivers/Downloads/connectivit...

These are all just values sent to us by the device.
It looks like the device has some firmware bugs. Returning lots of 3s as ifDescr is probably not what the vendor intended.
Is the inverter off?

That's not all, as I said observium is not showing all things in the mib it did before.
Is the inverter off?
No definitely not

If sensors/statuses have been removed, that's because the device is no longer returning data for those entries.
There's not really any "magic voodoo" or whatever. They're just numbers the device returns. If it stops returning them, we don't show them.
The device seems to now be returning a pretty crazy sysObjectID looking at that screenshot, so alongside the ifDescrs going weird, I'm going to go with "this firmware is screwed up".
./poller.php -h <hostname> -m status -d
Wil let you pick out the OIDs being collected for the inverter, and you can see what it's returning.

I have found JK to be unusable. JL seems fairly stable. Most newly ordered cards seem to be coming with JL or JH on them.

I'd collect SNMP walks from the device and report the issues to the vendor.
Perhaps they can fix them in a decade or so :)

LOL, yes.. They still don't support AES/SHA in snmpv3 and the ssh server is insane with it's ciphers and only allows for stuff from a decate ago...
Is this some export regulations or incompetence? Probably the latter..

I believe the Network-M2 part that replaces the Network-MS resolves some of these problems but I don’t have one to test.

+1 this. Tried to raise the issues with the later firmware to Eaton but it has fallen on deaf ears.

I was afraid of that... So is it safe to downgrade? Just flash it and maybe a factory reset?
Answering my own question; yes with a caveat. Remember to disable SSL before downgrading because the JL version has super old SSL and no modern browser is able to connect to it. Don't ask me how I managed to connect to it in the end..
I'm back on: Eaton (MGE) UPS 1.30.0001 (Firmware: JL)

FWIW: There is an old version of IE on Win10 that still works with the deprecated ciphers. It's hidden by default; but you can resurrect it with the "Programs and Features" control panel.

But it is much simpler to just download an old Firefox version and use that than having VMs with different versions of windows. Just remember to specify a non default profile otherwise it might mess up your current one. As a bonus you can run less proprietary software. :)
