added a HP server over snmp
Hi all,
I have just added a HP server. added SNMP and set it up.
The server connected fine to observium.
Now i see Observium has support for HP but the data im getting is pretty mandatory server stuff so im wondering what the HP support is added? or did i do it wrong?
As an example i was hoping to get some RAID info on the RAID 1 running on the server with the controller that was shipped. But all i see is C:\ which won't alert me if a disk fail.
Hi,
Your signature is borken again ;-)
You need to run HP SNMP agents on your machine to get HP specific data, it will not magically appear.
Support for RAID is coming, but at least now you'll get status of each separate disk already, if you run the SNMP agents HP delivers. I have no idea how that works on Windows but it's most likely easier to set up than on Linux ;)

Hi, If you run linux, check out: https://downloads.linux.hp.com/SDR/project/mcp/ and download hp-snmp-agents

If your hp server is an modern one with a ILO 4 you can configure observium to talk snmp with the ilo to get the system health.
I prefer that way because it so happens that a lot of developers break evrything they can get their hands on on the os side, including snmp and then i still get the hw status on the machine.

Last time I checked, HP SNMP Agents support for Windows involved a combination of installing the Insight Manager agents and the WBEM providers:

i take it from the silence that HP SNMP should be pulled automaticly by observium IF HP snmp is correctly setup - right?
cause im suspecting that maybe the insight manager and the others may have some issues...

Yes, If hp-snmp-agent is setup correctly you will get some extra sensors like RAID-card status, PSU status and stuff like that which Observium will find automatically

if everything has been setup correctly, you should be able to check the result using an snmpwalk command via OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.232
For example: observium-box# snmpwalk -v 2c -c public your.server.hostname 1.3.6.1.4.1.232

Hi,
The inventory is totally unrelated to any HP MIBs. Installing the HP agent will not do anything with the content of the inventory tab.
It's the health sensors that come from there :-)

I thought it was the mib's that helped publish HP raid controllers to the inventory.. how else would observium know there was a raid controller?
