Problem with special characters on device descriptions / snmp location etc...
Hello
We are using Observium CE as part of our monitoring systems at IslaLink / OranLink.
A few weeks ago, we updated to the last CE version (17.9.0). Since then, we are experiencing problems with the interface descriptions that may contain some especial characters like “áóéñ…”. It also happens with the SNMP location string.
Seems that this was an old bug that was already solved: Observium OBS-1396 UTF-8/ISO characters fail in SNMP location
This is causing some events flood, and incorrect display. I attach some captures:

We tried to remove all special characters, but sometimes it’s not possible or easy.
May this bug have emerged again?

We see this problem on the interface names/alias/description and on the snmp location string. (at least)

Your issue should be fixed in r8959. But currently this is only in Pro edition ;)
Anyway sysLocation should be already normally collected with UTF8 chars

We understand that it is on the pro edition for the moment. We will see what we can do 😉
Regarding sysLocation, we see the same problem.
For instance, this is part of one device properties:
version => 15.1R5.5
hardware => EX4200-24F
features => Ethernet Switch
location => Ibiza, Islas Baleares, Espa..a
os => junos
status => 1
where it says Espa..a, it should say España. Seems that the "ñ" was replaced by two unknown characters, probably from the utf8 codification.
If there is any debug information that I can send for this case, let me know.

descriptions / snmp location etc...
Hello
We are using Observium CE as part of our monitoring systems at
IslaLink / OranLink.
A few weeks ago, we updated to the last CE version (17.9.0). Since
then, we are experiencing problems with the interface descriptions
that may contain some especial characters like “áóéñ…”.
It also happens with the SNMP location string.
Seems that this was an old bug that was already solved:

UTF-8/ISO characters fail in SNMP location
This is causing some events flood, and incorrect display. I attach
some captures:
We tried to remove all special characters, but sometimes it’s not
possible or easy.
May this bug have emerged again?

simplest way - give me temporary SNMP access to device (outside ML).

Regarding sysLocation, we see the same problem.
For instance, this is part of one device properties:
version => 15.1R5.5
hardware => EX4200-24F
features => Ethernet Switch
location => Ibiza, Islas Baleares, Espa..a
os => junos
status => 1
where it says Espa..a, it should say España. Seems that the "ñ" was replaced by two unknown characters, probably from the utf8 codification.
If there is any debug information that I can send for this case, let me know.

Your issue should be fixed in r8959.
But currently this is only in Pro edition ;)
Anyway sysLocation should be already normally collected with UTF8 chars
