Note that we can't assist with rhel/centos installs.
Our recommended and tested platform is Debian/Ubuntu.

I do see that there is traffic being recorded but for some reason it is not being displayed. Since it is a new install I will wipe the installation and start again from scratch and see if somehow I missed a step.

Hi Guys,
I am having a problem displaying data in the graphs. If I select an interface that has traffic reported and drill down to the graph I see all the graph entries with -nan but if I select the RealTime graph I can see the traffic flow. Can anyone explain why this would be and how I can resolve this?
Thanks for any assistance with this.

Ok, so I have created a Ubuntu 12.04 server, installed Observium precisely step by step on the http://www.observium.org/wiki/Ubuntu_SVN_Installation webpage. I then added a device from the command line (as superuser) './addhost.php koe-netapp02 KOE_RO v2c' and it went through fine. I then did the './discovery.php -h all' and the './poller.php -h all' commands and no errors came up. I also added another device (koe-netapp01) using the web interface and that went through fine as well.
Both of these are showing graphical traffic now o there must be something going on in the RedHat/Centos config that is not covered in the setup that is causing the problem I was having previously.
Thanks for your assistance with this.

Excellent!
If anyone using RH/CentOS could find the missing piece in our instructions we'd be most grateful.
But remember: we develop and test using Debian and Ubuntu only! :-)

I suspect it has something to do with access rights to file for the apache user. I may have time to dig into this deeper another time but I am in the middle of a project right now and just need this working :)

SELinux.
I found I had to turn that off (CentOS turns it on by default) before anything would work properly.
Yes, there are probably other ways around it, but I've never used SELinux, have no experience with it, so found it easier to just turn off.

But you can get observium to work with SELinux with easy. I have installed Observium and i have SELinux enabled and its working just fine.
Its easy to modify SELinux policies when you install setroubleshoot-server package. It provides tools to make a new policies from SELinux alerts. Its pretty easy to use those tools. It almost gives you all shell commands which you need to run when it notices SELinux alert and when you need to modify policies.
That way i did manage to make needed modifications and i have SELinux enabled and Observium running without problems.

I concur, if you are uncofortable with SELinux the learning curve is not thatgreat. You just need to set the right context for where you install observium and then selinux will happily allow it to run. I dont mind selinux for what it does.

We won't go near dealing with SELinux in our documentation.
We already get quite enough silly questions already :)
