Connect to device icon?
Hi,
I was sure at one point there was a "Connect to device/terminal" icon in Observium, but either I'm mistaken and it was never there or now so buried I can no longer find it.
Whilst hostnames and/or IP addresses are shown in Observium, they generally have active links attached to them to take you to other screens in Observium, this makes it hard to copy these into a Browser to gain access to the device's GUI.
It would be nice to have a "Connect to device" icon next to the IP/Hostname that will make it much easier to click through to the device's own GUI.
We recently started using Ubiquiti's UNMS monitoring system which is good for Ubiquiti devices, but pretty lousy for anything else. UNMS has a "Copy to clipboard" icon next to each IP address making it really easy to then connect to the device's GUI.
I like the "Copy to clipboard" method rather than a URL link, as this is generic and you can then copy and paste into a browser or any other application.

Chris Macneill
Hi Chris,
Go to host, List ports with the 'Ports' tab Select a port to see it's graphs. In the tablist just above the graphs you have a 'Real time' tab. Probably that is what you're looking for.

Any update on when "Connect to" options can be fixed in Subscription version?
A reminder of the problem, in CE version under Device cog icon there are 4 options to connect to the device.
In subscription version these 4 options are replaced with a single "Show Tech Support" icon, which shows a whole bunch of information about the device, but no "Connect to" options.
Not sure when the problem first occurred, but currently running 20.8.10631

Actually, Show Tech Support icon is configured via Global settings, so "Connect to" options are simply missing and I can't find any global setting that could have turned it off.
Turning off "Show Tech Support" doesn't make "Connect to" options re-appear, so the two aren't linked.

The "Connect via SSH/Telnet/HTTP" options are missing for Ubiquiti and Netonix devices.
There was a Jira ticket (2617) which highlighted similar issues with other OS types, this was closed off and user advised to post OS types with "Connect via" missing to mailing list.

Maintaining which remote protocols work on which devices isn’t something we’re easily able to do, as it needs to be defined for every device type.
It’s added like this to each OS or os group :
$config['os_group'][$os]['remote_access'] = array('telnet', 'ssh', 'scp', 'http');
You can add it to any OSes you want these options on in the relevant definition for that OS, in this case includes/definitions/os/ubiquiti.inc.php
If you generate a patch from this we can probably apply it. “svn diff includes/definitions/os/ubiquiti.inc.php”
I don’t really like this feature though, as it’s too clunky/manual to add protocols to os types, and I’m not sure very many people actually use it.

Hi,
I the options that you are looking for are found on the device settings cog (not the global settings cog). At least, that's where they are on my CE install.
I tried to screen grab the demo.observium.org instance for you, but it appears that it may also be specific to user account priveleges (or the option has fallen off between CE and current PE).
Here's the screenshot from my install.
Cheers,
Michael
