Sensors not picking up, get rediscovered 4 times a day
My logs look like this...any idea why its not picking up? I have about 50 juniper devices, an APC device and a couple others and it doesn't seem to monitor or graph any of the sensors. I have seen some information about sensor configuration under config.php, but it wasn't very helpful.
Every time the discovery runs, or maybe its the poller, not sure, it finds all these sensors for every device, but it does nothing with them.
Is there a switch I need to flip?
Thanks! Morgan

Hmm. I think I have the same problem elsewhere (processors), and I think I know what it is.
Let me fix it :)

The only thing thats working in the memory graphing for junos devices. Everything else is seen by discovery but not acted on.
Inventory doesn't populate either, but thats maybe another topic.

I wasn't even sure this *was* a bug when I emailed in, I thought maybe I didn't have a flag set. The documentation on sensors was a bit wonky.
I do see some notes regarding some of the things I mentioned, so I will svn update and see how that goes. Sorry, this project is more active than I originally thought!

Except for a few well-known and long-standing issues (alerting, mostly), most things you'll notice will be fixed before you notice them. :>
This is because the developers run the current release on their production systems, so we catch bugs pretty quickly. No one hates gaps in graphs more than we do. :D

Except for a few well-known and long-standing issues (alerting, mostly), most things you'll notice will be fixed before you notice them. :>
This is because the developers run the current release on their production systems, so we catch bugs pretty quickly. No one hates gaps in graphs more than we do. :D
We didn't catch these because it's a bug adding new devices, and I haven't done that (consciously) in a while - or at least not since the memory tables commit ;)

I didn't touch sensors though, maybe that's still broken?
I did fix storage and processors.

I do see some notes regarding some of the things I mentioned, so I will svn update and see how that goes. Sorry, this project is more active than I originally thought!

Hey guys,
So I'm back :).
Everything has been going great with the sensors across the board now, but now its on to a new issue regarding the sensors. I get these every poll period from every PDU. Maybe its how the sensor threshold is being interpreted, or maybe the APC devices are giving bad values, but the event logs have been completely spammed with these messages.
Any ideas?
Morgan

Also, I can't seem to find the thread in my inbox right now, but for the VLAN numbers being wrong on juniper switches, I can provide a switch with SNMP access and some VLANs for testing if you'd like. I seem to recall one of you guys asking for access to one.
Thanks, Morgan

Hey guys,
So I'm back :).
Any ideas?

I wasn't even sure this *was* a bug when I emailed in, I thought maybe I didn't have a flag set. The documentation on sensors was a bit wonky.
I do see some notes regarding some of the things I mentioned, so I will svn update and see how that goes. Sorry, this project is more active than I originally thought!

Thanks! Morgan

Chris,
If your device does not supply thresholds, we try to guesstimate something, which can be awfully wrong really quickly, especially with such small numbers... dropping over 10% is really easy like that. You could adjust the thresholds in the database, we don't touch them anymore once they're set - only calculate when they're empty.
If your device DOES supply them somehow, either we misread them, don't read them, or they're just wrong there ;)
Morgan,
The Juniper device thing was in Jira ;) I'd be happy to fix it if you email me the access details in private; I've fixed it before so shouldn't be hard, but I don't like making modifications to the code that I can't actually test.
Same answer for you for the sensor thresholds... though 207 and 0.85 don't seem very related. Maybe we misparse the APC supplied values? Or something happened to the code earlier that got fixed in the meantime. Try setting the limits to NULL for a specific sensor then have Observium rediscover the device and see what it makes of them.
On my APCs I can see and set the warning and over limit thresholds for at least current, don't know about others...
