Submitting MIB's for including into Observium?
Hey Guys,
What is the process for getting MIBs added to Observium ? (I know adding them to /mibs/ won't work :) )
Thanks !
Pieter
Hi Pieter, Adding support for a new MIB is not a very small task. You should first inform on what vendor and what kind of device you want support for, then attach the MIB and specifiy what information from the MIB you are interested in. Please also attach a snmpwalk of your device using this MIB and the device responses to the OID you would like Observium to support. You might need to be prepared to provide access to the device for Observium devs too.

Thanks Markus,
Is there any device that "is rejected without asking" ? - I am thinking of something along the lines that it doesn't fit with what Observium is monitoring - like something that has *nothing* to do with networking....not sure what that will be given it has SNMP :)
Thanks,
Pieter

Well, sure. Some devices might not fit in Observium, but can't think of any right now.... It's more likely that a request is rejected due to the metric you want to monitor is only useful for your use-case and very few others will have use of it. Then it probably wont make sense to use the time to implement that feature.

Hi Pieter,
it also requires adding code for detecting the new device type and the OID's you want to graph. See the documentation for more info: https://docs.observium.org/developing/add_os/
