imo, 1920 will be common for quite a while yet. any chance you can make the scaling formulaic, based on a config parameter? that way you only have to do it once, forever. (bonus: mbp folks are happy, you can be lazy when 8k shows up, etc…) R. PostgreSQL Application monitoring

Hi I want to monitor Postgres servers and was wondering the best way to go about this. On the master server there are several clusters each with a number of databases. On the replication servers the same exists but I’d like to monitor the streaming replication delay. I’m just wondering what the best layout would be to bring the data into Observium? MIB files to compile?

Hi there, this may sound a bit stupid but I need to know this for sure: MIB files in Observium don't have to be compiled but to be available under /opt/obersium/mibs/ or(!)/opt/obersium/mibs/[vendor]? Background is a strange feeling that some MIBs are not used at all - so the second question is: how to validate that Observium uses the correct ones so I can verify either that I've done something incomplete or the affected MIBs are not valid or incomplete at all. ricoh toner level 150%

Graphing Apple Airport traffic

Firstly, I have to say how impressed I am with the clean, purposeful implementation of Observium. One of the main reasons I was looking for such an SNMP network manager was to monitor my four apple airport base stations. Whilst Observium recognises such devices, and graphs the wirelessNumber from the AIRPORT-BASESTATION-3-MIB if does not graph the corresponding physicalInterfacesTable traffic. Whilst the ifTable is graphed this doesn't actually include the wireless connections. This information would be very useful to determine how many packets are being passed on the wireless interface and at what speed. I've yet to dig into the structure of the code much, but presumably the physicalInterfacesTable could be logged/graphed using code very similar to that used for the ifTable. Something that would also be very useful, would be to list the currently attached clients which could be reported in a similar manner to the ARP/NDP Table using information sourced from the wirelessClientsTable to display MAC address and speed/signal strength/noise. This information could be instantaneous rather than logged as the airport base stations appear not to actually return the number of packets passed despite the MIB supporting this. This looks like the simpler task. Finally, some might be interested in the DHCP allocations, but as I run all my base stations in bridged mode that wouldn't be of interest to be. So, before I start looking at the code, I thought I should ask if anybody is already looking into this? Thanks, Steve

Howdy folks. Can anyone please help provide me some syntax to try debugging the geocoding calls that place devices properly on the map? I'm running 2 installations[Observium CE 0.13.10.4586]: - 1 test host (geocoding works great) - 1 production host (geocoding isn't working) The prod host is behind proxies whereas the test host is not, so I'm next to 110% positive that this is what's preventing the geocoding calls from functioning, but I could use a hand in how to further debug the details of where/how it's failing. I've specified the proxy server details in the config.php file, but am not confident that connections are actually getting through. It's quite possible that the geocoding URLs are not currently permitted through the proxies. I need some more ammo though to go back to my proxy admins so that I can get their help in permitting this connectivity if it's denied. Are thereany commands I can run or debugging flags I can toggle to help extract more details? Hi, I recently installed Observium CE and noticed some very weird behavior. Observium monitors currently 3 devices: 1 Debian Server + 1 Debian workstation + 1 Ubuntu workstation. The Debian workstation is shutdown overnight and rebooted in the morning, nicely shown in the Event logging: Shutdown: *<date time> System Device status changed to Down (ping)* Reboot: *<date time> System Device status changed to Up <date time> Reboot Device rebooted after <hours min sec> * That's all fine. But now the weird thing is that for the Server the Event log says almost at the same time: *<date time> System Device status changed to Down (snmp)* and when the workstation is rebooted, the Server Event log says at almost the same time: *<date time> System Device status changed to Up* Graphs for the server don't get updated/have data for the time the Debian workstation is down. The Ubuntu workstation runs 24/7 and graphs get properly updated during time the Debian workstation is down. I would expect that what happened with the workstation should have no effect on the data collection of the Server. Details: Observium CE 0.14.4.5229 OS Debian 7 (Server + Workstation) Ubuntu 10.40 LTS (Workstation 24/7) How do I get this working properly? Thanx, Pieter

is anyone else seeing a 500 apache error and blank login after upgrade to 5536? im not seeing anything in the logs to suggest errors, and it was working fine prior to upgrade last entry in observium.log is just prior to upgrade machine is ubuntu precise running observium on amazon ec2 beautifully. if I’m alone on this it must be the machine/instance thanks in advance NT

IPSec Tunnels

All, I've noticed that for Cisco ASAs the Routing--IPSec Tunnels section is not accurate. It lists all tunnels that have ever been made and marks them as active, even though the tunnel may not exist anymore. I believe that the OID shows the active tunnels is 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.171.1.2.3.1.7 Also, is there a way to alert on this list changing? It doesn't have to automatically change the Type to it, we can do that manually. Monitoring Interface names

I would like to ensure that interface names conform to certain standard. I'm stuck at 'Check Conditions' phase of making an alert. If I understand everything right, then there's no ifName metric available for a match condition, or am I doing something else wrong? Any suggestions? If I'm right, then can ifName be added as a metric?

Hi there, I have two routers in different location connected over IPSEC-VPN. Both devices are actively monitored which works fine. Now I am wondering how to make this interconnect visible on the map. Feature request: Firewall flow statistics

Hi all, We would like to graph the amount of sessions through our Juniper SRX firewalls with Observium. (snmp oid: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.39.1.12.1.1.1.6.0) It would be a really nice feature and in the past (when we used cacti) it has helped us detecting a problem with software on one of our servers. I'd really like to see that in Oberservium and maybe others can benefit as well. missing port description in traffic bills edit mode

Hi, I just wanted to change a traffic bill and delete a port, if editing the traffic bill, the port list on the right hand side shows only the delete button but no port description. I found that in revision 5521 and verified it with Firefox, Chrome and Safari. So it does not seem to be browser specific. Could you please look into it ? Regards, Andre

Hello, I have the following case. I am useing Observium to monitor a few Windows Server 200 R2 VM's. Some machines can't get there disks polled because of a BDEdrive partition (because of this partition the poll times go up to 60 sec/per machine as wel). As workarround i have disabled the storage poller module (the polling time goes down to 3 sec), and enabled the WMI poller module. The wmi poller module works nice. Polling of the Disk partition works as wel! There is only one problem, the graphs/logs for diskspace dont get written to the rdd files when using the wmi disk poller module. Is this a know problem and if so, is there a fix or setting that I could use? Kind regards, Jeremy

{Disarmed} Health Processor Usage sorting according to the Usage ?

Hi , The current health monitoring top menu report ( http://x.x.x.x/health/metric=processor/ ) displays the items in the alphabetical order of the device name. But it would great if we can get this sorted by actual usage, so that it gives like "Top CPU Usages like report" This is just a suggestion, what do you all think , the same thing could be applied to other metrics as well for the time being I just edited the /opt/observium/html/pages/health/processor.inc.php file and set $processors = array_sort_by($processors, 'processor_usage', SORT_DESC, SORT_NUMBER, 'processor_descr', SORT_ASC, SORT_STRING); to get this effect. but my worry is, this will be overwritten when we do the svn upgrades :-) With Best Regards, Supun Rathnayake Lanka communication Services (Pvt) Ltd. 65C, Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 07. Graphing/data problem

Hi guys, We just started having this problem on Friday and am not sure where to look for the problem. Some of our data just doesn't show up anymore. See the attached image. Some servers work fine and some don't. The 6 hour view will work ok, but the historical data seems to have disappeard. We are seeing odd ?'s on many of the graphs installed of numbers. Mikrotik RouterOS 6 Sensors

Hy observium-users, we're using observium with many devices and all sensors report a correct state. But with Mikrotik RB2011 we're getting temperature and voltage warnings from "System 0". Hi, S4810 switches is not being detected as S4810 switches with the latest community edition - observium says: Dell Networking OS Operating System Version: 2.0 Application Software Version: 9.4(0.0P1) Series: S4810 Copyright (c) 1999-2014 by Dell Inc. All Rights Reserved. Build Time: Mon Apr 21 08:28:51 PDT 2014 Also it appears that the polling process is crashing the OSPF process on the S4810 switches, causing them to reboot, in case someone reads this before installing ;-) I’m opening a ticket with Dell on that one. Alerts for Device ping delay

Hi, Having recently purchased Observium Professional Edition, I have a question on Alerting for high delay to the device. I've configured an Alert Checker with parameters: - Tests: device_ping gt 40 (assuming RTT to the device not to exceed 40ms); - Device match: os equals ios - Entity match: <hostname> - Entity type: Device Actually, this checker applies not to the Device itself, but to the Ports of the Device, resulting in incorrect checks. I assume, that device_reboot checker will act in a similar way and won't trigger an alert. Can anyone provide a working config on this Alert type? ---- Best, Sergey Homyakov

Hi, we like to monitor some of our ADSL routers and Switches these are TP-Link devices, but the observium only picks them up as generic devices!? Hello, I am looking for a tool that can allow me to monitor customer's physical servers as well as my virtual servers (I have some, not too many Linux/CPanel servers and Windows VPS). This is a list of the tools I have been recommended along with Observium https://nodequery.com/ sar newrelic naemon nagios Icinga I think nagios and similars are too much for me, however I don´t know if Observium has all what I need, can you help me with that? Some of the features I need are: 1. Load/performance monitoring applications like Apache, MySQL, Exim (email) 2. Exim queque size (for preventing spam issues) 3. Generate user logins for my customers (so they can see graphics of their servers) 4. Access from mobile Do you think Observium could help me with this?
