After updating from 5391 to 5399, BGP prefix update counts are not showing in the graphs, or in the up and down arrow counts next to each session. The total prefix counts are graphing correctly. All BGP sessions are missing the update counts. Matt UniVoIP [observium_bgp_5399.PNG]

2 things with alerting

Hi, We have 2 strange things with the alerting system since a few days. - 1. The frontpage displays ports up/down, even when the alerting for that port is disabled in the device settings. Is this normal? Because this wasn't till a few days ago. [cid:image001.png@01CF5ED2.3C5BB560] [cid:image002.png@01CF5ED2.3C5BB560] - 2. Some alert checks worked fine for months, but now they fail. (I only have the database output, because the http://observium/alert_checks/ links returns a blank page, maybe because the result is too big?): [cid:image003.png@01CF5ED2.7A406F60] I attached the debug poll of one of the devices. The polling debug output returns: Checking alert 4 associated by 4 replaced @sensor_limit with 5.92 from entity. Testing: sensor_value greater 5.92 (value: 5.187) FAIL replaced @sensor_limit_low with 4.37 from entity. Testing: sensor_value less 4.37 (value: 5.187) OK Checks failed. Generate alert. What I expect (and what it did for the last months) this alert rule to do, is to fail when the sensor value is not between the threshold ranges. It looks like it is only for the voltage and current sensors. [cid:image004.png@01CF5ED4.23531980] When I check the settings and alerting thresholds, they look fine to me. Graphs not graphing after update.

Howdy, Having a strange problem, after updating too the latest version my graphs seem to have stopped working. There are files in the /rrd dir, I've double checked the path in config.php for fping and everything seems to be correct. Alerting not working on short flap

Hey guys I have a weird problem on alerting system. One of my ethernet interface of a device went down for 10 minutes. Billing - Circuit ID on main page

My question is in regards to the blue circle with the "i" located on the main billing page. This used to display the circuit ID when you hover the mouse over this icon. Noticed it hasn't been working for me for quite some time. Not sure what revision it stopped. It was very helpful as we have several customers with multiple circuits so now I have to click on each one until I find the circuit ID I am interested in. If there is a way to get this feature re-added then I would greatly appreciate it. If adding it back is complex due to recent code changes then I understand that as well. Just wanted to check. renamed block devices

Device Traffic Overview Graph Legend

Hi all, Just in case anybody else has spotted this and wants to fix it. The problem I was seeing (in the community edition at least) was that when ‘Show Legend’ was clicked on the Device Bits Graph page, the interface names would only have 10 characters as the image below shows: [cid:4474A50E-FFD7-439C-B557-8AB5663E872B@turnerhouse.local] With Cisco devices this renders the legend pretty useless as almost all the interfaces have FastEthernet/GigabitEthernet/TenGig etc. in front of the interface number. To fix this the file /html/includes/graphs/generic_multi_separated.inc.php needs to be modified. Lines 28 & 29 just need more space: $rrd_options .= " COMMENT:'$units_descr Cur Avg Max'"; if (!$nototal) { $rrd_options .= " COMMENT:' Total'"; } Line 81 will have the number 10 after the comma on rrdtool_escape: ($rrd['descr'], 10). This basically strips the interface to that length. In order for the interfaces on my 6500 to show nicely I changed this number to be 25: rrdtool_escape($rrd['descr'], 25). If you decide to go for a different number you should modify lines 28 & 29 too to make sure the ‘Cur, Avg, Max and Total’ headers are in line with the stats below. Then you just need to change for the ‘outbits' as well: substr(str_pad('', 25),0,25). The graph will/should then display like the below. Much more useful :) [cid:937DFBEE-EE5A-4F3E-8B38-AE6466900BE5@turnerhouse.local] An alternative would be to use ifName rather than ifDescr but I can’t be bothered to figure out how to do that. Disk I/O feature gone?

Was this feature removed in the latest community release? We used to be able to view each disk (sda/sdc/sdc) and the ops/sec and bytes/sec. I can't seem to find this anymore after the latest upgrade. Failover interface monitoring

Hello Observium team I am monitoring different kind of devices (linux / windows / cisco) through my Observium. Everything work fine except for some Windows server 2012 network interfaces : the failover interfaces. Microsoft uses some kind of interface to supply a failover service (2 servers of the same kind speaks a special black protocol to monitor themself). >From the Windows Server, interfaces are "Microsoft failover cluster virtual adapter". >From Observium, they are seen as ethernet device and as tunnel device. Observium always seens some packet loss on these interfaces (however, there are no packet loss in the network, even with huge stress). So ... it keeps alerting for packet loss. You would say "turn monitoring or alerting off on these interfaces". Well .. that what I did : But I keep getting some alert in the eventlogs : The others real interfaces on the server work fine (good monitoring, no loss, no alerting). I am only having the problem on these kind of interfaces. Why does Observium always see packet loss on these interface ? Why does Observium do not stop alerting when I tell him to ? VM and Observium

So, is anyone experiencing any issues running on observium on a vm? I submitted an email a month or two ago about some issues we were seeing, and i decided to reinstall observium from scratch. Currently i am seeing the same issues, whereby it "appears" that connectivity drops or isnt captured randomly. it's not across one device, but all. i am wondering if maybe i didnt build the vm appropriately or we really are having a network type issue. ive looked at the network but maybe i am overlooking something. anything on the vm side that maybe i can look at? i am running ubuntu 13.04 and the latest observium code as of yesterday.

Brocade MLXe and ICX support / question

Hi, we use a couple of MLXe’s and ICX’s which seem fine at the first place running observium’s subscriber edition. However, a few part seems not working correctly: + MLXE’s - Memory shown as -1 on the device main page and has no graphs „nan“ at all - Memorypool usage graphs show -nan - Observium recognizes the installed Line card CPU but report 100% CPU on another machine adder 3 month earlier it reports OK - VLAN’s are reported fine, however, on the VLAN tab only untagged vlan1 (default vlan) has port associated with it, others are empt + ICX’s - CPU reported 100% all time, but same switch installed earlier shows fine - Compared to the MLXe it does not show LAG interfaces Any hints on the the graphing which works for one device but another added later does not as well for the memory? I Don’t hink that observium suddenly broke the support for this, as it is still working for the other devices (exactly the same device). What do I need to provide to help fixing the other things such as the LAG display for the ICX or others and to get more current Brocade device support? Cheers, Swen

Adtran Devices

Are there any plans to include better support for Adtran devices - specifically Netvanta and Total Access products? As it is, Observium only shows bandwidth graphs - no processor, memory, etc... Adtran processors can suck so we'd really like to be able to monitor them, but haven't found a product that can do it. Thanks! -Colin

Unable to add Alert

I just upgraded from the CE to Subscription. When I go to add a new alert checker, it tells me: Adding alert checker Alert creation failed. Please note that the alert name must be unique. Nothing is listed in the alert checkers list. I queried the database tables alert_* and they all seem to be empty (as expected). Anywhere else I need to poke/check? Thanks -rich

All, Quick question about editing alerts. I can't seem to find a way to edit existing "checker details". For example, entity type, name, message or delay. Alerting in Community edition

Hi all, from the comparision page, I can see a check for the Alerting, but also in Brackets Future release. Can anyone confirm what the current status is of the Alertign within the Community edition? I was able to add a new Alert checker with /add_alert_check/, but I'm not able to see it, or have any menu entries for Alerts. Just wanted to confirm that I don't miss anything in the current version I'm using, and that it is not completely included yet. Thanks, Christian

Adding MIB after a device...

Good afternoon, I added an Eaton ePDU (sensor), and obviously it is showing up as Generic. I meant to upload the MIB prior but forgot. Any chance that after a few pollings it will auto-associate? If not, can it be linked manually? I looked under the Sensors Properties while attempting to edit the device but it looks like a no go. Or, since the MIB is now uploaded is it easier to delete the device and then manually re-add it? Thanks in advance any help you can offer. Hi Nick, All a MIB does is translate a numerical index into a text identifier (with some information about what the value contains). We still need to write code to understand the MIB and collect data from it. We do support other devices by this manufacturer, so I'm not sure exactly why it doesn't work, Tom might, though. adam. Aggregate graphs for Peering Ports

I was curious if there was a way to group together Peering ports in a way that it shows an aggregate graph similar to how Customer ports are handled. On the customer ports page, I can see an aggregate graph of all a particular customers circuits. It seems all I have to do here is make sure they are named the same. We have a few peering circuits to one entity and it would be nice to have that same behavior. I have them named the same but on the peering page the two circuits are shown individually with no aggregate totals. Just wondering if there was some type of configurable option to enable this or not. Let me know if I need to provide anymore info. Hopefully that makes sense. Frontpage Map Zoom

All of our devices are located within the state of Indiana. On the frontpage the map zooms from Utah to Nova Scotia with Indiana in the middle. Of course I can manually zoom in as far as I need but would like the default to zoom 1x more so I can see the entire state of indiana from north to south. Is there a setting in config.php that will let me do that?

After much debugging, tweaking the code and playing around with timestamp to epoch functions I’ve finally managed to get this working and it seems to be pretty accurate (for the Cisco devices at least). graphs for power usage on Tripplite PDUMH30ATNET

Hello, I have successfully added in a Tripplite PDUMH30ATNET. It successfully detects and uses the OPS mib when it sets up and has a nice little tripplite icon. The only thing it seems to be graphing is the Ethernet traffic on the one ethernet interface on the device. What I want to see graphs of are the power usage on each of the power outlets and inputs. Map issue

Does anyone know how to fix this? All the SysLocation fields are identical, but when they go on the map it places 2 blips a few miles a part. This is on all of my locations. I suspect its an easy fix to blow that part of the database away and let it reload them. I believe it started happening when the map updated the last time. Port 'Last Changed' visibility

Hi all, I can't seem to see this feature on the port details page or the 'all ports' list but forgive me if it is visible somewhere. It would be useful to have a 'last changed' time (30 mins ago) etc... on the port details page. This info can be gained from SNMP and from what I can see is already in the DB so it would just be a case of adding it to the page code. Thanks Jake

No such object is irrelevant, it is from another polled module. I'm not sure why it's discovering incorrectly, I will try to look tomorrow. Adam. Interface pop up bubble "up"

1 rogue host on map in the mid Atlantic

Hey all, I recently updated to the new community edition and once everything was up again, I have 1 rogue host showing in the mid Atlantic on the map. None of my hosts use the override "syslocation" function. The number of devices in "All Locations" is equal to devices my syslocation. Here's the kicker, when I click on the rogue host, it takes me to my devices page for my syslocation. Is there anything I can do to figure out what device is causing this issue ? Thanks, R. Prihoda

Hi, This morning at 6:30 the IPv4 addresses of my servers suddenly started changing. I see a lot of messages like: IPv4 changed: 83.247.10.20/27 -> 83.247.10.20/3 IPv4 changed: 83.247.10.21/27 -> 83.247.10.21/3 IPv4 changed: 83.247.10.22/27 -> 83.247.10.22/3 IPv4 changed: 94.142.242.194/29 -> 94.142.242.194/5 IPv4 changed: 94.142.242.195/29 -> 94.142.242.195/5 IPv4 changed: 94.142.242.213/29 -> 94.142.242.213/5 IPv4 changed: 94.142.242.214/28 -> 94.142.242.214/4 IPv4 changed: 94.142.242.215/28 -> 94.142.242.215/4 IPv4 removed: 127.0.0.1/8 Besides showing me that I have some misconfigured subnet masks in the 94.142.242.208/28 subnet, it also seems to have some consistency: - A /27 turns into a /3 - A /28 turns into a /4 - A /29 turns into a /5 My VMware ESXi machines also suddenly show: IPv4 added: 83.247.10.11/32 IPv4 added: 83.247.10.12/32 IPv4 added: 83.247.10.13/32 I also noticed some broadcast addresses being added: IPv4 added: 83.247.10.31/27 (this is an Ubuntu 14.04 server with 83.247.10.29/27) IPv4 added: 83.247.10.31/27 (this is is a CentOS 5.10 server with 83.247.10.7/27) IPv4 added: 83.247.10.47/28 (this is a vcenter applicance) IPv4 added: 83.247.10.47/28 (this is a Dell DRAC card) IPv4 added: 127.255.255.255/8 (this is a vcenter applicance) So, subnet sizes went weird on some systems, 127.0.0.1 disappeared from some systems, some ethernet adapters now show both the real IP address and the broadcast address on some systems. When walking dot1dbaseportifindex it excludes interfaces that are UP. Only interfaces that are DOWN or DISABLED are returned. Is this something that is well known? Seems to me that is a bug in ios... There is one thing I can’t seem to get quite right which is how to alert for Linux system when the ‘used’ RAM is greater than, say, 90% - which is best explained with an example of a device which looks like this: [cid:image001.png@01CF5826.67DDE2B0] Which shows that ‘used’ is 15.1GB (48%). However, for the purposes of alerting, if you use the mempool_perc gt 80 it alarms as being 98%. So I can’t specify ‘used’ as a pool because the only pools are “Swap Space”, “Virtual Memory”, “Physical Memory” etc. There isn’t one which is specifically the ‘used’ RAM element. So, is there a way around this or something I can tweak to get the desired result? Or what is everyone else doing to get alerting for linux boxes like this working for high RAM? Cheers guys!
