Dan, consider lighting up a websvn instance in parallel to obs, pointed at your rancid depot. it’s got a nice layout, and you get a bit more in the granularity toolbag (e.g. permissions). our auditors love it. you lose a bit of the SPoG effect, but really it’s an ideal drill-down. aside: top 3 wish list (e.g., after obs alerting gets finished): - eigrp feature-parity with ospf/bgp - f5, palo & checkpoint device support (rancid is weak here also, so obs is in good company /grin/ ) - auto-thresholding sexiness (a math-inclined list member offered to contribute some framework for this a while back?) alerting wishlist items: - bark at me when the route count of established routing peer sessions (esp. bgp) changes from $baseline - bark at me for threshold deviations, esp. unnaturally lower-bound ones (e.g., ckt that normally pumps nMbps flatlines to zero) (tells me my edge peers probably did something stupid that they will blame me for anyway. knowing about it first helps. LOL). ps: - scale of syslog ingestion (or possibly the regurgitation thereof) might warrant some love. 7MM/day entries in volume makes for dreadfully long page loads. - anyone have the mysql agent script poking at an instance of mariadb? are your results in obs fully populated? Temperature in Fahrenheit

I am trying to get the devices to show Temperature in Fahrenheit instead if Celsius. I changed the config to show: $config['allow_entity_sensor']['celsius'] = 0; But this seems to have no effect. Any ideas? ~John

somebody on the list did a bit of work last year to get alerts out via growl (iDevice: “prowl”) using the obs API. remind who that was? did it ever go anywhere? I recall having got it sort-of-working before it went on the back burner; want to resurrect the effort if possible. thx. R. apologies for needing the reminder(s). sadly, my operating platform is hobbled by a 60’s-era single-core analog CPU and a rather stingy amount of (non-ECC) memory.

New kind of device

Hi all ! I know that I ask about a lot of functionalities ... but you like me for that :-) So I'll to be as clear as possible (and as "English" as possible ...). Is it possible to add a new kind of device that is only polled with ping ? The primary goal is to know when distant server (hosted by partners) aren't reachable without asking to have access to their snmp daemon and community ... I imagine that it can be a huge work because it needs to bypass a lot of code but you could have think about it ... ? To be simple for everyone, this kind of device can be a new sort of server but without any snmp information (no device panel / no ports panel, etc...) and just be polled by the ping. And when a hosts is down the alerter send a mail / trap and the index.php put an information box to warn on "device down" like any others hosts. port/alert limit

hi, We are very pleased by the use of the subscription version so far. At the moment we are monitoring 3.600 ports and have around 5000 alerts but the goal is to reach around 40.000 ports. Will this be a problem? I already see cpu load whenever i add a host with over 500 ports that is not evenly distributed if increase the cores of my machine. Please advise and keep up the great work. Sensor alert templates by device type

Noticed some new sensor alerts that popped up by default a few revs back now. Super sweet, firstly, so nice work guys. Secondly, the defaults naturally aren't quite right, ie 0. Is it possible to set a default sensor type by device/platform/OS rather than individually? For example, system voltage on one of our routers has a default of 2 to 2.7v, while it is actually running at 23.5 and thus throwing alerts. Can we set all networking devices or iOS switches or iOS version 12.?? to have the same defaults? [BUG] I got a blank page

Hi all ! Since a little modification on the config.php (adding a filter in [bad_if]) I got a blank page on my enterprise http://observium and the "./discovery.php -h none" doesn't output any information ... (usually it outputs the version - in green) I got the same problem last week when I updated the svn folder with CRON that force me to revert to an older version of my server ... Of course I reboot all the services (apache2, mysql ...) and I have upgraded the memory limit in the php.ini (like mentioned in the Observium FAQ) ... Any clues ? Somebody got the same problem ? Hello guys, at the moment we are not a subscribed customer, so maybe this mail is obsolet. We would love to have a feature to remove GeoLocation thing unter Devices-> Locations. In our environment the snmp location is filled with some kind of customer ID. Like: U100432. Traffic Bills Oddity

We're using the traffic bills module and are a "paid" customer. However, sometime in October, customers that we bill for usage over a wireless link (using UBNT kit), only show 0.00. Traffic can still be seen on the port on the traffic bills screen, but collection of the data seems stuck. There are multiple customers per UBNT node and they are all seeing the same issue. Traffic bills on switches and routers appear fine however. Any idea where to start on trying to fix, or diagnose this. Matt

Port Properties Alert Question and Odd Behavior

Is there a way to see all Ports that have been disabled for altering? I enabled email alerts in config.php for port percentage, but seeing some odd behavior with the percentage portion with the physical interfaces inside a etherchannel interface. Below are a couple emails I received. The bandwidth mentioned in the email is more than the physical interface. Is there another option I need to turn on or off to account for this behavior? Any suggestions are appreciated. This physical interface didn't go over 444M. The port channel have 8 physical link in it. Port saturation threshold alarm: cisco.switch.com on GigabitEthernet3/1 Rates:1.63Gbps/11.6kbps(163/0) >85% of 1Gbps Another email This physical interface hit a 1G. The port channel has 2 physical links in it. Google MAPS Integration

Unfortunately not being a Developer I'm finding it hard to get my hands on documentation to implement the use of google maps in the overview page. Device Alerts that won't go away

Hello all, I have attached an image of the alerts in question, the names and locations have been removed. It only happens on these two servers out of 20+ different servers. A summary of this would be: * ShoreTel OS Logo * ShoreTel OS definition * Added SonicWall firewall CPU OID and related graphing * Added Sonicwall firewall active sessions discovery and graph definition for this To achieve this, there are a couple of extra .inc.php files and some addition snippets added to existing files. I understand that you prefer code submissions through wget from a website and I can arrange this, but firstly would like to know if you are interested in adding my code (following a review of course) to the product. Hi, What is the « best practice » for keeping up to date the subscribed edition ? Stopping the cron jobs, updating with the svn, launching the discovery.php and start the cron jobs ? Or lauching the svn directly (without stopping the poller) is ok ? Display IP address of the device ( DNS resolved ) in front of the device name ?

Hi all, We have a small suggestion, is it possible to add a new feature to display the IP address of the device ( DNS resolved IP of the device ) may be in front of the device name / or at the top of the device page etc. ( at any prominent place ) This is really helpful in identification and further trouble shooting etc., as most of the network engineers are dealing with the IP addresses rather than the hostname in day to day operations. Wait time to access subscribed version

Hi all Hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction. We put through payment for the subscribed version of Observium on Tuesday evening, and very shortly afterwards I emailed Adam with the encrypted htpassword line that he required to add to the SVN. However we have not had any word back on if this has been done or not (and testing, it seems to deny us so I am guessing not). I emailed a chase today, but I was wondering if there was a wait time on getting access, as I don't want to keep bugging when I should be waiting. Hi all, I’m working on setting up observium/open source edition, and when I load any of the web pages within the GUI I am seeing the SQL queries getting printed to the web page. Has anyone else ran into this issue? If so, any fix? Hi, It seems that we can't modify some information on an alert checker (via the web interface) like : - The name of the checker - The message (for the description) - The delay All the other boxes have a modify and a delete button but not for this one. I'm up to date (0.14.1.4883) via the subscription edition of Observium. Data Fetch Failure

Hi all, I've gone through the normal procedure for getting the observium_agent working for mysql and apache, but even though I've added the config values to the http.conf (centos) I get a data fetch failure when running the apache script manually. MySQL one works fine. I'm at a loss to what it is as I can retrieve the URL in the apache script manually also. Thanks, Shaun

Poller hung by misbehaving device/net-snmp

Hello, One of the devices I'm polling began misbehaving (its SNMP stack couldn't cope with uptime > 4294967296 seconds). This caused the Observium poller to hang indefinitely. The underlying cause seems to be an issue with net-snmp, however this did cause other devices to not be polled and eventually exhausted the file descriptor limit (at which point, several thousand php processes were running). I'm not sure of the best way to protect observium from net-snmp failing; as a very dirty hack I've replaced the following line in the config: - $config['snmpget'] = "/usr/bin/snmpget"; + $config['snmpget'] = "/usr/bin/timeout 1m /usr/bin/snmpget"; I also tried setting snmpget's -t option, but this did not have an effect. This is on the community version, but I believe the subscription version would be affected too (I've not seen anything in the change logs that would indicate otherwise). syslog search

Is there a way to search all syslogs for all devices at the same time? Hi Gurus, I'm not good in linux but my boss ask me to install observium in our RHEL box. I followed this link http://www.observium.org/wiki/RHEL_Installation#Introduction then I stop here. (I have a fresh install RHEL then i just follow everything) My comments are in open and closed parenthesis. Copy the default configuration file and edit it for your system: (I copy the config.php in my observium folder where the extracted folder was. Is this right?) cp config.php.default config.php Add an entry for fping to config.php as the location is different on RHEL: (I edit the copied file) $config['fping'] = "/usr/sbin/fping"; Edit config.php. Change the options to reflect your installation. Setup the MySQL database and insert the default schema: (I really stop here because when i type this in shell i had this error -bash: php: command not found) php includes/update/update.php It is OK to have some errors in the SQL revisions up to 006. Null data billing module API

Multiple communities/hosts for same IP address (localhost)

Hello I'm trying to setup a monitoring system for two networks that have several devices each (mostly switches) behind a NAT router; unfortunately I am limited on the ports, so had to use SSH tunnelling from the Observium machine to each of the networks in order to access all the devices. I followed the instructions from http://vfamilyserver.org/blog/2013/03/snmp-hell-part-1-proxy-to-multiple-de… setup the SNMP proxying and it all works quite well, I can snmpwalk each of the devices behind one of the two NAT routers only by changing the community name (haven't yet setup the second one). However, I'm not sure how/if it's possible for Observium to see the different devices - I've added the NAT router with add_device.php (I used command line rather than web interface due to SNMP running over TCP) and was recorded as 127.0.0.1 (which does make sense, as it's the tunnelled from the local host); then, when I tried to run the command with one of the other community strings, it returned an "Already got device 127.0.0.1". Further, although I haven't yet set it up, I will probably have the same problem when adding the tunnelled NAT router on the second network. Is there a configuration/workaround that would allow to differentiate between these multiple instances of what appears to be the same [local]host? Best regards Bogdan

Hi Guys, At midnight last night during the normal scheduled re-discovery we appear to have lost all historic data for all ports on a large number of our switches. I’m still checking them all but it appears to have affected all Cisco 2960G units (24 or 48 port). Data collection is working fine, but all history has gone, including all CPU, RAM, temperatures, fans, RPS Power etc. [cid:image001.png@01CF0F7A.BD8E4C80] There are no Eventlog entries for the devices for the last 24 hours, but there are some from a couple of days ago which read like this: [cid:image002.png@01CF0F7B.7D5A55E0] However, as I mentioned these events are from the 9th so a few days ago. Any ideas please? I can restore the RRDs from backup but I’d like to know why it’s done this otherwise I’ll just be restoring them again tomorrow morning ☺ Cheers! Enterasys Poller

Hello, I am working on evaluating Observium as a Cacti replacement for monitoring network devices and servers at my university. So far I have Observium working with all of our Cisco and Juniper gear as well as a few of the Linux boxes that I manage but seem to be having issues with getting everything working nicely with our Enterasys gear. Let me preface the below with stating that this project is absolutely wonderful and if I can get our Enterasys devices to play nicely we will be upgrading to the paid version. I understand that Enterasys is not officially supported so I have begun diving into the code base to see what needs to be done to write the poller modules myself. Does any one on the list have the ports poller fully working with an Enterasys device? Now, one of the things that I noticed with the Enterasys gear is that the ports poller module will continue running the snmpbulkwalk for the dot1qVlanCurrentEgressPorts mib until the user finally kills the poller. This appears to be an issue with the number of repetitions as the poller will continue walking the table for over an hour. Hello. Running Observium CE 0.13.10.4586. I've run into a strange situation with a single device that I am unable to discover and get added into observium's inventory. The device is an F5 Load-balancer. I have 51 other F5's all working beautifully, yet this one seems to be giving me grief for some reason when I try to discover it.
