User Access Levels

Is this documented anywhere or did I not look hard enough? Just looking to add a user with the same viewing abilities as an admin, but unable to make any changes. A level of 1 doesn't allow them to view anything at all. 8 more options to try I guess ;)

Possible bug with whois?

Hello list, When Observium tries to do a whois of an RFC 1918 address, whois goes to 100% CPU and stays there... it doesn't seems to exit. I have to manually kill the whois process. smokeping integration no more working ?

i've tried to integration smokeping graphs with observium. i've followed the documentation and add in my config.php : "$config['smokeping']['dir'] = "/usr/share/smokeping/www/cache";" but i can't see the smokeping tab in my devices. devices in smokeping are working perfectly btw any clues?

Quick question on Brocade VLAN interfaces

I'm running Brocade CER routers in my network at the moment. VLAN interfaces on Brocade are implemented as ve interfaces. Brocade for some reason decided not to implement interface counters for ve interfaces on the CES/CERs, so of course I don't get any utilization graphs for these interfaces. Is anyone out there running MLX or XMR? Out of morbid curiosity, do the VLAN interface octet/packet counters work on them? Thanks

Can't add first host

I have tried twice now to set this up, unsuccessfully. I have followed the walk-through for Debian/ubuntu as best I can but still can't get anything to work. I shouldn't say anything. I DO get the webpage and can log in with the user I set-up in the walk-through via command. When I go to the "Add Device" page I get a webpage error at the bottom. Linux agent port change

Hi All, I've just changed the default port for the agent from the check_mk port to a port matching our enterprise id, 36602. There's an example script in scripts/observium_agent_xinetd for xinetd. You can now just use the agent script from scripts/observium_agent. Put it into /usr/bin/observium_agent, as matching the xinetd file. Create a /usr/lib/observium_agent directory and a /usr/lib/observium_agent/local directory. Put the agent scripts you want to run in the local directly. To test it, use "telnet localhost 36602". We're still working on a method of keeping the agent up to date on clients :) For the time being the poller will check both the /new/ port and the original check_mk port, but this will be removed in the future. adam.

User interface access error

Hi all, I give my customers access to observium so they can view the traffic from my switch to their network through their port. This used to work great, but now users can't view their port anymore. I get some access denied errors. Giving access to a device still works, to a single interface not. I don't know since what version this bug exists, my customers don't check their traffic every day. Another issue is that in the "all devices" and "all ports" sections they can see all devices that are being monitored by observium, even if they don't have access to it. A small security issue here. This is all done in rrdtool, so purely graphical initially. It is possible to extract this kind of data from rrdtool in numerical form, but it's quite slow, certainly too slow to do in the poller. Also, I would say in this instance you would set a warning at 75%. Much easier :) Adam. Integration with Nagions/Smokeping - How does it work?

Hi, I am new to Observium. Downloaded it last week and got a few devices working on it. Did Rancid plug-in and now all configs show up on Observium. I also added following to config.php and have Nagios3 and Smokeping running independently on the same box. However I don't know how its supposed to show up. Rancid was obvious because of the extra tab that shows up. How does it work with nagios and smoke ping? To make sure this is the case, agent scripts should have the absolute minimum of code. Where possible, just command output or cat'd files, updating php, perl and python scripts after deployment may prove difficult... :) Adam. Changes made to Devices > Locations

Hello, Seems there was a change in code which effects - Devices > Locations. I had set each device with a specific sysLocation - and checked override sysLocation in the device settings. This was working as expected, until I ran updates - Now instead of having my defined locations - It now shows countries - Canada, England, Unknown and all my stuff is showing up under unknown. Is there a place to read about configuration changes - I may need to re-adjust - or is this a bug - as override sysLocation is now overwritten by something else? Thanks. Sonny

Issue with 95th Percentile for Billing

Hi All, New here. :) I have an issue with the billing of traffic. I want to bill according to 95th percentile but for some reason it is always 0Mbps. It can plot my traffic for incoming and outgoing but it always show 0 for my 95th percentile. Any advise on this? Thanks Poh

Yes. This is down to some funkiness with timezones between client and server. It has been known for a while. The last attempted fix was reverted because it broke things even more! Adam. While its a great concept, its not scalable. I have Qty 40 of the Cisco 48 port switches and not all ports I care about. These are desktop ports and I care to graph uplink ports only. Even if it does it efficiently, it is junk data that I would never use. What would have been awesome is let Observium discover everything and let administrators decide what they want to graph. Its sad that even though I like the tool, it doesn't fit me because of this limitation(or so called feature). My 2 cents. Sam

Hi, I'm not sure what to make of this. When I try to enter custom time ranges in any of the traffic graphs, I get different results depending on which browser I'm using. Results are as follows. I'm in Brisbane (GMT +10). Mac OS X 10.6 Firefox: Observium always converts the time I enter (in local time) to GMT. Therefore my graphs are out by 10 hours. Safari: Won't accept any time info I enter. Always give me the last 24 hours. Chrom: Everything seems to work ok. Windows 7 Internet Explorer: Always gives me the last 24 hours. Same as Safari on OS X Chrome: Everything seems ok. Clicking any of the preset time periods, e.g 6 / 24 / 48 hours, always works ok regardless of which browser/os I'm using. How to exclude some network interfaces?

Hi, I deployed Observium over the weekend to try out. Reading through documents, I figured out how to exclude specific interface types. However trying to figure out how to exclude a specific interface? E.g. The list might be Fa0/30, Fa0/37, Gig0/9, Gig0/42. No contiguous interface. Thanks in advance, Sam

Observium VMs wrong OS version

Hi there In the virtual machine overview (ESXi Host..), the os version is not correct. I added the VM to observium, when squeeze 6.0.6 was installed. Now it is 6.0.7 (since a few weeks) but observium still says 6.0.6. Is that a bug? Regards, Patrick

Reset disk storage values on host

I recently changed the disk configuration on one of my monitored hosts. It seems like the discovery engine is pulling the stats incorrectly and applying them to the wrong disks. Is there an easy way (save for removing and re-adding the entire host) to flush the stats of the storage only? I don't care if it has to completely start from scratch. Hi all, I've been using Observium since January, and I've mostly been happy with it. I upgraded to 0.13.4.3934 yesterday, and since then, none of the sub-interfaces on a ASR9K/IOS-XR 4.3.0 router are being collected. Originally I thought it was due to an upgrade error on my part, so I deleted the host and re-added it, but the sub-interfaces are not being seen and data not being collected. Let me know what information is needed, and I'll present it. -- Stephen
