Custom Logo with latest SVN

Long time listener, first time caller. I've been enjoying the SVN updates including the visual redesign. I was wondering if there is a new config option to set the logo on the new header bar. My config has the old one in place, but the redesigned bar is obviously smaller than the logo. Thanks for all the great work! SysUptime issue

Hiya, We've noticed that Observium is reporting that devices have rebooted even though they haven't. It's happening at the 496 day mark and so we're assuming that this is related to the 32bit SysUptime counter limitation. I noticed though that there is a section of code which says: // Use snmpEngineTime (68 year rollover) to cross-reference for false // positives in device rebooting due to sysUpTime rollover issues so I presume this ought not be happening. I can appreciate that this is a difficult one to test. Or rather, it's easy to test but has a *really* long debug cycle :-) We're currently running 0.13.2.3559. Here's the output from a device which observium recently reported as having rebooted: SNMP-FRAMEWORK-MIB::snmpEngineTime.0 = INTEGER: 43016530 DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (6689166) 18:34:51.66 If you want any more information just ask. Given the number of devices we have with uptimes around 496 days we can probably do a test every few days. Poller debugging

Hi, I've checked around for some docs on this subject but I'm coming up empty. Not sure if I'm looking in the wrong spot or if they just don't exist. I'm noticing the odd gap in all graphs for a particular device, and only that device. The two gaps in the last 24 hours seem to have lasted about 15 and 30 minutes, respectively. This is the first time I've seen these gaps on this device, but I did upgrade the code on this box last week. I'm convinced it's a software issue on the router I'm polling, but I need some ammo for the vendor. To that end, I'd like to enable some debugging that will show what the poller is reporting (or not reporting) when it hits this device. My hope is to catch something useful in the debugs that I can bring to the vendor. Any hits appreciated. Thanks!

Platform change on existing device

Hi everyone, we just replaced one of our core routers and therefore changed platform from Cisco to Juniper. Whilst the interfaces got discovered correctly, Observium does not detect the change of the device/platform itself. Also the full discovery, which runs every few hours did not notice. Is there a way to rediscover a device without deleting it or will there be any feature like "platform change detected" during the full discover in future? It depends how big your installation is :-) Like all things, you need to scale your own installation. We now do more caching instead of repeated lookups, requiring more ram on large installs. Adam. Juniper BGP Prefix Graphing Issue

Hey Guys, I have just started using Observium, so far I think it's great! (Good work) I have however stumbled across an issue with BGP Prefixes on my Juniper J2320. When I do a debug on discovery.php and poller.php (after adding the host) it appears that it is extracting the correct information for jnxBgpM2PrefixInPrefixesAccepted and jnxBgpM2PrefixInPrefixesRejected for both IPv4 and IPv6, however it only seems to graph the prefixes from only 1 of my peers (they have 2 ipv4 and 1 ipv6 session with me) so I am seeing graphs for these 3, but not any others. In the debug information I am also only seeing an update for the graphs that are working. Traffic bills

Hi Adam About the traffic Bills. After a month is billing period is completed will the data be preserved even if interfaces are added/removed from the billing? The reason I ask is that it is a hassle too keep track of aggregated usage of things like Peering/Infrastructure/Transit as you constantly upgrade and move things around. Aruba feature request

What would be handy for us is to have graphs of not just the number of clients on our Aruba M3 controllers, but the number of .1x clients and the number of captive portal clients. This could either be separate graphs or combined with the 'number of clients' graphs. Don't mind really. Discovery of large stack causes hardware to become unresponsive

Hello I are testing Observium in a new environment after previous success stories elsewhere. We have noted that when we run device discovery on a stack of 5 Cat3750 (12.2-50-SE1) the "device" becomes unresponsive to any other queries / pings / ssh for approximately 5-6 minutes (during the discovery cycle). Once the discovery is complete, the poller, pings, and other operations return to normal. Note that traffic flow does not appear to be affected across the switch. Total ports on the stack are 278 (no argument that it is a large number of ports to poll from a single device). Regular polling of the device does not appear to have any consequences, it is specific to the discovery module. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks Patrick

Hi Patrick. That's surely not supposed to happen. It's quite a number of ports, but certainly nothing that should be an issue, i poll larger stacks and people poll devices with thousands of interfaces. I would try to check with the -d switch and see which queries lock it up, then report this to cisco as that's simply unacceptable. If you know what causes it and you don't happen to need that info, you could disable that discovery module for those devices. Web UI doesn't show

Dear All, I need some help for installing observium in Ubuntu 12.04. I've followed the manual in the website for the installation and everything went smooth until I actually want to deploy the web UI. I've managed to add in the device and had paste the code listed in the page to /etc/apache2/sites-available/default. But when I access the website, it shows nothing but error message saying that nothing has been found. I've checked my apache2 error log and it says "File does not exist: /etc/apache2/htdocs". I have another website in the server as well, does it have a problem with something else hosted in it? RANCID config data

Just svn upped to latest version, and now RANCID tab doesn't show config. Has anyone else seen this issue? I just checked the config on a device before I updated and everything was working properly. Now all my devices still show the config tab, but no actual config data: [cid:image001.jpg@01CE14F1.5C0469B0] Anyone else had this issue or is it something local to my system? Thanks

Hello there on a bras, there a a lot of virtual-interfaces which disapear when session is off (pppoe, dhcp etc...) is it possible to configure scripts or poller to scan only specific known physical interfaces only? Thanks for any solution. Noru

Mike, Unix hosts prefer to use uptime from the agent array populated by the unix-agent module. Hi all, It is possible to give a user access to a port on for example a switch. But you can't give them specific access to a sensor. With the ipoman for example i would like to give a user access to a specific sensor, so they can monitor their powerport and their ampere consumption. Device up/down conditions

Can someone help me understand the algorithm/conditions that will cause a device to be flagged up/down in Observium? Reason I ask is I'm seeing instances where devices will get flagged as 'down' however when I login to the Observium host and manually test via fping/snmpwalk, I get valid responses back. The devices come back a few minutes later. I don't see anything in observium.log aside from poller completion results, so I could use some more info/ideas to help debug why these devices keep going offline intermittently. Cheers, -Chris

Hiya, I'd like to make a feature request. It's a slight modification really. In the User Management -> Edit User section you can grant a user access to a device by selecting a device from a drop down box. Would it be possible to change this from a single select to a multi-select box please? We may have to add over a hundred devices to several users. A multi-select would reduce this work from mind-numbing to merely tedious. Graphs stopped working

Hi, I came across a design flaw in ifAlias. First of all the flaw: declare -a INTERFACES=($(ip l|grep mtu|cut -d: -f2|sed s/\ //g)) ... INTERFACE=$(echo ${INTERFACES[$INDEX]}|cut -d@ -f1) The Interface INDEX is rarely equal to the indexes of the array. Thus getting all interfaces here is useless, we already get the right Interface ID from SNMPd, so the fix is: #declare -a INTERFACES=($(ip l|grep mtu|cut -d: -f2|sed s/\ //g)) ... #INTERFACE=$(echo ${INTERFACES[$INDEX]}|cut -d@ -f1) INTERFACE=$((ip l | grep "^${ID}: " | cut -d " " -f 2 | sed 's/://g') 2> /dev/null) This way, even when tap* respawns with a new INDEX it will still be mapped to the right Description and Alias. A 2nd bug has been spotted in snmpbulkwalk vs snmpwalk; snmpbulkwalk -QOUs [...] ifAlias leaves out some descriptions but snmpwalk does not, needs further investigation for now I just hacked the snmp.inc.php... Clean install - SQL Schema errors

I noticed that there are several errors running the schema creation on a clean/fresh install. Managed to run it without errors after a quick review and posted a patch at http://jira.observium.org/browse/OBSERVIUM-219 Some files even "errored" on the first line so maybe many changes never got to the database in production installations, any ideas about how to check schema "consistency"?.
