Web UI doesn't show

Dear All, I need some help for installing observium in Ubuntu 12.04. I've followed the manual in the website for the installation and everything went smooth until I actually want to deploy the web UI. I've managed to add in the device and had paste the code listed in the page to /etc/apache2/sites-available/default. But when I access the website, it shows nothing but error message saying that nothing has been found. I've checked my apache2 error log and it says "File does not exist: /etc/apache2/htdocs". I have another website in the server as well, does it have a problem with something else hosted in it? Hide Device Alerts header

Hey, As a cosmetic improvement to the overview page: might be interesting to hide the "device alerts" title & table header, when no such alerts are active ? RANCID config data

Just svn upped to latest version, and now RANCID tab doesn't show config. Has anyone else seen this issue? I just checked the config on a device before I updated and everything was working properly. Now all my devices still show the config tab, but no actual config data: [cid:image001.jpg@01CE14F1.5C0469B0] Anyone else had this issue or is it something local to my system? Thanks

Hello there on a bras, there a a lot of virtual-interfaces which disapear when session is off (pppoe, dhcp etc...) is it possible to configure scripts or poller to scan only specific known physical interfaces only? Thanks for any solution. Noru

Mike, Unix hosts prefer to use uptime from the agent array populated by the unix-agent module. With the ipoman for example i would like to give a user access to a specific sensor, so they can monitor their powerport and their ampere consumption. Device up/down conditions

Can someone help me understand the algorithm/conditions that will cause a device to be flagged up/down in Observium? Reason I ask is I'm seeing instances where devices will get flagged as 'down' however when I login to the Observium host and manually test via fping/snmpwalk, I get valid responses back. The devices come back a few minutes later. I don't see anything in observium.log aside from poller completion results, so I could use some more info/ideas to help debug why these devices keep going offline intermittently. Cheers, -Chris

Hiya, I'd like to make a feature request. It's a slight modification really. In the User Management -> Edit User section you can grant a user access to a device by selecting a device from a drop down box. Would it be possible to change this from a single select to a multi-select box please? We may have to add over a hundred devices to several users. A multi-select would reduce this work from mind-numbing to merely tedious. Hi, I came across a design flaw in ifAlias. First of all the flaw: declare -a INTERFACES=($(ip l|grep mtu|cut -d: -f2|sed s/\ //g)) ... INTERFACE=$(echo ${INTERFACES[$INDEX]}|cut -d@ -f1) The Interface INDEX is rarely equal to the indexes of the array. Thus getting all interfaces here is useless, we already get the right Interface ID from SNMPd, so the fix is: #declare -a INTERFACES=($(ip l|grep mtu|cut -d: -f2|sed s/\ //g)) ... #INTERFACE=$(echo ${INTERFACES[$INDEX]}|cut -d@ -f1) INTERFACE=$((ip l | grep "^${ID}: " | cut -d " " -f 2 | sed 's/://g') 2> /dev/null) This way, even when tap* respawns with a new INDEX it will still be mapped to the right Description and Alias. A 2nd bug has been spotted in snmpbulkwalk vs snmpwalk; snmpbulkwalk -QOUs [...] ifAlias leaves out some descriptions but snmpwalk does not, needs further investigation for now I just hacked the snmp.inc.php... Clean install - SQL Schema errors

I noticed that there are several errors running the schema creation on a clean/fresh install. Managed to run it without errors after a quick review and posted a patch at http://jira.observium.org/browse/OBSERVIUM-219 Some files even "errored" on the first line so maybe many changes never got to the database in production installations, any ideas about how to check schema "consistency"?. Shouldn't there be listed all MAC addresses in the MAC address table ("show mac address-table")? Or is this really just the MAC<->IP table? If yes, are MAC addresses tables saved in the Observium database to see which MAC address is on which switchport? speed up the poller with poller-wrapper.py

Hi all, Are you not sleeping well because there are gaps in your graphs? Do you feel like your observium poller isn't putting enough effort into its sole task of polling every device and completing that task in less than 5 minutes? Fear not, a dirty script called "poller-wrapper.py" is here! I wrote a small wrapper that has a slightly more modern approach to getting things done. An issue with the multiple poller instances approach[1] is that when a single instance has to poll a few slow devices, that single instance cannot finish its work in time, while the instances that already finished their portion of the work will not 'help' the instance with the slow devices. This wrapper script will create a Queue with all the work that has to be done and launch a number of threads which will take work from the Queue until the queue is empty. This distributes the workload over the instances move evenly, thus improving performance and thus making it more likely to finish all the polling work within 5 minutes. Hello, I just did a new installation of observium in our network and I pretty much like it. Unfortunately, I do have the problem, that all graphs are empty while f.ex. the temperature readings on the device overview page are fine. Filters from the all devices page not working

Hi, Trying to filter from the "All Devices" page and even that all data fields are shown once you apply the filter no device is shown in the result. Any clue? Can somebody crosscheck if this is a problem with my installation or a bug? Regards, Erwin Botas

I added support for juniper-dom-mib a week or two ago, the sensors go in the same table as the other sensors, and there's also a per-port sensors tab. Hi All After my mail this morning I could not wait and implemented it. Attached are the 3 necessary file in a tgz archive. I should work on XMR/MLX/CER and probably CSR (probably others). It does deffenetly not work on RX and FWS. I'm in contact with Brocade to find out a solution to do the same on RX switches. @Adam: Would be very nice if you could include it in svn. Hosting/server/device donation.

Hi All, We've had quite a few offers of hosting recently, so I thought I'd explain why we don't take them and give some suggestions on else people could do instead. Firstly, we don't accept offers of hosting for the websites and repository of the project because we don't want to be beholden to anyone who could change their minds. It would likely cause significant disruption if we were to have the plug pulled on a donated server out of the blue! One of the big problems with writing and maintaining something like Observium is that it's difficult to ensure that everything works after changes. As we refactor code and add new features, support for specific devices sometimes acquires bugs or simply stops working. So one of the things which would be helpful would be access to various kinds of devices to add to the http://demo.observium.org installation both to better advertise the features of Observium as well as making sure bugs are found more quickly. For example, thanks to the SNMP access to a 7200 recently provided by Crosstel, we'll soon fix some bugs that left the Cisco MAC accounting feature broken since we switched to using MySQL memory tables for state. :) Thanks, adam. New front page format

Just wanted to say that I really like the new front page format. Alerts are displayed much more compactly *and* with more useful information, which is a nice trick.
