Postgres monitor script

Afternoon all, have my apache working nicely, mysql and moving through the list of to-do's. Next is our primary DB which is running postgres. I have that server added, SNMP working, the agent is loaded and I can telnet from the observium server on 6556 port with no issues. Looking at the install http://www.observium.org/wiki/Application/Postgresqlthe only thing left from that section and my notes from mysql is to copy the script from the local observium server (under /opt/observium/scripts/agent-local) to the postgres server and update the config with the user/pass but those files are not there. Function scope issues?

Hi all, I'm just looking into a couple of nagging problems on my Observium install and i found this: 1. includes/discovery/discovery-protocols.inc.php uses ifNameDescr(), which is defined in includes/rewrites.php (called from includes/functions.php). 2. ifNameDescr() is a wrapper around ifLabel(), which itself is a wrapper around humanize_port() 3. humanize_port() calls humanspeed(), which is defined in html/includes/functions.inc.php This seems to indicate that ifNameDescr/ifLabel/humanize port, when called from discovery functions, will never work. Is this intentional? Or should humanspeed() (and possibly others of its peers within html/includes/functions.inc.php) be moved to includes/rewrites.php? Regards, Paul

Disable Monitoring of Linux Interfaces

Good Evening, I was able to get Observium up and running with no issues, but I do have a bit of an odd situation. I happen to have a server that I wish to monitor that has over 300 PPP interfaces. Observium is attempting to poll them, and its hammering the server hard, and Observium. Is there a way to remove polling of interfaces (or maybe just ppp interfaces) on that server? Thanks!

Drilling down to specific times in graphs

I'm having a little trouble understanding how the graph drill downs are supposed to work. I select a 6 hour graph of something, From: says 17:44 To: says 23:44. Case 1: I change 17:44 to 16:44 and click Submit, From: says 11:44 To: says 18:44. Case 2: I leave From: at 17:44 but change To: to 18:44 and click Submit, From: says 12:44 To: says 13:44. Am I missing something on how these timeframes are supposed to work?

Observium doesn't hit apache directly. That is done via the agent script. Is it working? Apache application monitor problem

After a successful implement of the mysql module, I now am looking to monitor apache. I just added apache/mysql agents to a clean install and it worked OK. Run the poller with -d Adam. Adding mysql monitoring

Checking out http://www.observium.org/wiki/Application/MySQL#Requirementsand seems pretty straight forward. I have my server running, added that box and see it collecting data now. php5-cli and php-mysql are installed on both the server and mysql server I wish to monitor, but nothing has been added and not sure how to force check, add, etc. Docs are simple enough; I created the user with access on the remote server. Then the steps are simply; *Copy* the mysql script *from scripts/agent-local/* in your observium install to */usr/local/check_mk_agent/local/* (/usr/lib/check_mk_agent/local/ on Debian systems) the *server* you wish to monitor. The remote server is running ubuntu, so I create a folder; /usr/lib/check_mk_agent/local with 2 files; mysql (script) mysql.cnf I can run the script locally and get a lot of data (here is a sample); root@mysql101:/usr/lib/check_mk_agent/local# ./mysql <<<mysql>>> a0:13362926 a1:50929 a2:4796992 a3:287789 So is it something on the server end I need to add/edit? Aggrgation, Nagios Check, Graph Caching

Hi, After using Observium for some time I have some ideas and questions: * Is it possible to create aggregated graphs? F.e. I'd like to aggregate all uplinks (which are on different routers) into one big graph (all uplinks as a single line, in one graph (overlay). And the traffic aggregated). * This could maybe end up in a Dashboard, which shows me an overview of what's going on in the network. (Aggregated Graphs, Top Ports, Recent Syslog, High Values, ...) * I'd like to check some values collected by Observium with Nagios to generate an Alert (F.e. the temperatures, dBm, ...). This could be a plugin like "check_observium <device> <type> <thresholds>". How can I access the raw data in Observium from outside? Is there something like this available, or does it need to be written? My main concern is to have just one tool which Polls the devices and get the collected data out of it. I don't want to have many tools which are all doing SNMP. One single tool should be enough. * How can I get the graphs out of Observium to display in another tool? * Are there any caching mechanisms for the Graphs? Everytime I hover over a link which creates a Pop-Up the graphs are being generated. What about caching the generated graphs for f.e. 5 minutes? Cheers and thanks a lot for this great tool! Hello all, I have the fallowing UPS's With APC 9617 Management cards Smart-UPS 1000 600.3.D Does not report Current draw Smart-UPS RT 2000 XL 801.3.D Everything works SMART-UPS 2200 80.11.D Does not report Current draw Everything else is reporting just not the draw on the other UPS's I have updated to APC Management Module AOS v3.7.3 / App v3.7.2 Can I Upgrade the Firmware on the UPS its self? Still Only the 2000 XL reports Current If I could ask it would be nice to see the Runtime on the UPS. Cisco MPLS networks with pseudowires

All, I'm looking at rewriting the Cisco pseudowire code, as it basically doesn't work properly at all. Do any of you have a small network using pseudowires (MPLS and/or L2TPv3) you don't mind giving SNMP access to, or a bunch of spare lab routers you could spare for a while to put up a test network? Only Cisco is really relevant at the moment, as the MIBs for doing this are vendor specific! :( Thanks, adam.

syslog date error

Hi I've got syslog working like a charm... My devices are logging to my observium installation and the /syslog page are displaying everything nicely. But today something weird happened. The time is now 11:18 on december the 20th. But on the syslog page it says: Recent Syslog Messages 20th Dec 23:59:55 fw10 FILTERDNS : host_dns: failed looking up "CBB": hostname nor servname provided, or not known If i take a look in the database, the last syslog message is this one: 7 1 4 4 filterdns: 2012-12-20 11:15:03 FILTERDNS host_dns: failed looking up "TMP": hostname nor s... 1987 What's going on? :) BR Stefan Milo

esxi 5.1 cpu graph not working properly

Hi I am having some issues with the CPU graph in my home lab with a small server running esxi 5.1 with a dual core amd cpu. I have attached a screenshot of the problem. IPSEC tunnel count continuously increments

I've built a DMVPN test network with one hub and one spoke and upon monitoring them, I notice the graph for IPSEC Active Tunnels (/graphs/type=device_cipsec_flow_tunnels) increments by one every hour - only on the spoke router, not on the hub. So I'm wondering where Observium is grabbing that piece of data from? Which SNMP OID? If I do a "show crypto eli" on the spoke, I have 2 active sessions (Observium now reports 66), and 12 on the hub (Observium reports 5). Any ideas? All Ports Pagination

Hi All I've noticed, that when I go to Ports->All Ports, all Ports are displayed instead of the first 100. When clicking Next or so, then the pagination works. Is this a bug or a feature ? you need to make sure mod_rewrite is enabled. You likely missed as step in the install guide. Hello, I'm student of Faculty of Applied Sciences (University of West Bohemia - Czech Republic) and I'm doing semester project about Observium. I tried to instal and use this program. But when I intalled it on Debian I had problem. Main webpage of this program working but when I choose any item in menu then it show me "page not found". For example: when I choose Overview than show me: Not Found The request URL/overview/ was not found on this server. --- Apache/2.2.16 (Debian) Server at localhost Port 80 I found on some forum that I need to add line: 'AllowEncodedSlashes On' in Virtual host, but that isn't work. popup overview graph set positioning

Greetings, Nice looking application. Playing with the demo now, and noticing that when I hover over a link (e.g. postman.memetic.org on URL http://demo.observium.org/devices/type=server/) it produces a slick overview popup. Unfortunately, much of the popup is below the edge of my browser, and moving my mouse makes the popup go away. I'm using chrome on debian wheezy, and I was wondering if this was the reason, or if the popup is just pinned to the mouse location. Seems like having the popup auto-adjust position to ensure it stays on the page would be a good optimization. It's also possible there is a workaround/preference I am unaware of (played with it for all of 10 minutes so far). -C

One last issue, With latest version if you add two ports to a bill the description for the first entry shows under the second item and the description for the second item is not seen. If you have more than 2 interfaces in the bill - then the interface description information is offset by one and you don't see the last description. Alert Question

Sorry if this comes as a double post, as I sent it out, then was prompted to confirm my email to the list. If so, disregard (or answer since I haven't seen one yet) ;) So I have nagios running smooth for one company and working with another was introduced to observium. Interface is excellent, but I have 2 questions. 1. Alerts. I had a dev box hit around 97% disk space with no notice. So there is an alerts tab, but I don't see how to configure alerts, thresholds, etc. Looking at the wiki ( http://observium.org/wiki/Configuration_Options#Simple_API_Settings) I do see some things, but no simple [add alert] type thing, so is there something I can read, etc. as I continue to play? 2. Search header. The one I was shown before I did the install had the company logo (I see where to change that, colors, etc.) but they had the searchbar just not there (and I can see why). I can click the [hide] but I would like to completely remove it, but don't see where/how to accomplish. Chrome issue with 6k Crossbar

Hi, There seems to be an issue with ‘Normal’ view and the Catalyst 6k Crossbar graph images in Chrome (latest 23.0.1271.95 m) It’s fine in Widescreen view and it’s also fine in Internet Explorer. Hi, it seems the JavaScript bugs when adding a bill, whenever I click on "Add Port" it redirects me back to "/#addport", displaying my log-overview. Also adding a bill from the view of a port wont work either, even though I open "/bills/view=add/port=27/", the port is not added to the created bill. Is this a known "feauture"? I remember having to add bills and services raw into the SQL, I dont mind doing so but I cant seem to find the wiki-entry for it again... Moving an interface from one device to another and having the graph follow

I just moved a transit link from router 1 to router 2. I cleared the old interface on router 1 and copied it to router 2. When I went back to my Observium graphs, the aggregate graphs picked up the interface in the transit aggregate graph, but all the old data was lost. I guess this doesn't really surprise me, although it might be kinda cool to have Observium automagically move the graph to the new interface if the new interface description matches, but that might be a little problematic if there was ever a case where a dedupe was required on interface descriptions, so I digress.. Is there a way to get that old data back somehow? Thanks in advance.

Hi Tom, I've been afraid you would say something like that. Lets just hope there'll be a replacement in future... About Nagios, I've been on nagios for quite a while now and just switched back to Observium once again. I definitely prefer Observium over Nagios to be honest, after all I always ended up with Observium in the end ;) However, I could imagine an NMap integration into Observium for probing Ports and Services; Since Observium already knows which ports are open, it should be possible to wrap NMap in a shell-script and let it execute along service-polling for probing and service analysis. Hello Obversium-List, I've read on the wiki (http://observium.org/wiki/Services) that Services are going to be removed in future. Will there be a replacement without extra software on the clients? Alternatively, whats the most efficient way of monitoring TCP/UDP Port states when Services are being removed?
