Hi, I was trying to add support for NRG Printers (Ricoh-clones), following the method found in the Developing/NewOS page and i'm blocked on the fourth step ('Add an OS text name and possibly other settings in includes/static-config.php'), but this file is almost empty, and the only other place with detection logic seems to be includes/definitions.inc.php but the header is quite deterrent :-) ######################################################### # NO CHANGES TO THIS FILE, IT IS NOT USER-EDITABLE # ######################################################### # YES, THAT MEANS YOU # ######################################################### I've walked past the disclaimer and tried to add the new os type inside, and everything works now, is it the right method ? best regards -- seb

I think it's worth pointing out that if you're planning to do any development, you should come to our IRC channel, #observium on freenode. It's usually a lot quicker to get questions answered, and you might save yourself a lot of time by not copying the wrong bit of code. adam.

Observium with an MFSYS25

No graphs displayed

Sorry if this is a newbie question I have installed Observium on a fresh Ubuntu 11.10 installation. Everything has gone absolutely perfectly. I used apt-get and installed all of the required packages as per the Ubutu installation page. It is running OK and has discovered the devices on my network. However, there is no information on any graphs. Not a single one. All the ports are correctly detected and it reading IP addresses and arp caches and most other information including CDP. No information on any graph and some are simply saying draw error. rrdcached working?

Hi, I discovered Observium a few days ago and I really like what I see so far. However, I'm running into some issues trying to scale up to the size of my network. The first issue that I thought I'd bring up is rrdcached support... is it actually working? I've got an rrdcached instance running but as far as I can tell Observium isn't making any real use of it. I switched to a TCP/IP socket for rrdcached and I can see a TCP/IP socket being opened but no data or commands are ever sent across the socket... Can anyone clue me in as to what I may be doing wrong? I'm running rev 3149 on a Fedora 16 system. -- Jeff Ollie

negative values on netstat graphs

Here is exampele of negative values drawing on graph while values are positive is this intended? http://demo.observium.org/graphs/type=device_netstat_snmp/id=33/to=13363435… Also on my installation graphs doesn't show negative lines, until you press "hide legend", but preview [day,week,month selection] are correctly drawn.

SNMP Location can't have forward-slash

Hi, Just noticed a small issue, when an SNMP 'location' contains a forward slash (/) then the link doesn't work in the location's menu, for example: With a location set to "THN/TFM-10/C5" on the device, the link is auto-generated as "http://<server>/devices/location=THN%2FTFM-10%2FC5/" which then results in the error: Not Found The requested URL /devices/location=THN/TFM-10/C5/ was not found on this server. Possibility too acknowledge items in Overview

Hi All We see alot of jabber on the Overview page that is not really necessary and makes it hard too differ important information from trivial information. We would like too be able too Acknowledge items in the Overview so that it is not spammed with ports that are down for known reasons. Perhaps you could comment on the Ack and/or mark with a category (maintenance, power outage etc etc). Additionally I think that keywords in descriptions could generate different results in the overview (like ports are aggregated but for states). So that ports that are marked for installation and waiting for link should be hidden when down and shown green when up so that the provisioning team notices this and can take action. I see somewhere you can define a regexp that will look at the interface description and when true would inverse the up/down relationship. Hi All, I'd like to direct your attention to another project run by some friends of mine: the NLNOG RING. The project is based around the goals of making network debugging much easier. When trying to debug complex problems and plan future upgrades, a point of view from outside your network is absolutely essential. Seeing what others see is incredibly useful when dealing with a variety of network problems. Well known examples are 'it works for even numbered ip address, but not for odd numbered ip address via this and this route'. To streamline such debugging the NLNOG RING was formed. In essence the project is very simple: you make a (virtual) machine available to the RING, and you gain access on all other servers which are part of the RING. The project currently has 98 nodes, located on 89 participant networks in 24 countries. The RING provides tools to trivially launch a ping from all these nodes and summarize the results to, other examples are distributed tracerouting and MTU testing. The RING also maintains a record of latencies between nodes using smokeping to help identify historic problems. Before applying to join, keep the following requirements in mind: * The organisation you work for has BGP routers connected to the "Default Free Zone". * Your organisation has its own ASN, IPv4 and IPv6 prefix(es). * You have enable or configure rights on those routers. * You have permission from your organisation to become involved in the NLNOG RING. Is it possible to use observium on a webserver as a subdirectory, i.e. https://server/observium? I'm a small shop that's part of a bigger organization & I don't have access to DNS to create a subdomain. Apologies if this has been answered already. I did a quick search & saw a similar question asked, but the thread didn't seem to contain an answer I could see. TIA

I have installed the software and I get the login page bur every link I click on after that gives a 404 error. This is a Ubuntu server and the default web is only the monitoring software. I made the updates according to the install instructions.

Hi, Running Observium 0.11.12.2749 on SL5 for this issue. Updated to 3069 and still has the same issues. But anyway: Noticed my Sentry CDU's were not picking up current or voltage information, tracked it down to a issue with the MIB. Not sure if it's the MIB in general or my version of the snmp utilities, but the discovery module complains it can't find the MIB when run in debug mode. Turns out my snmpget doesn't like the whitespace before the "Sentry3-MIB DEFINITIONS ::= BEGIN" line. I removed the whitespace and discovered the sensors. Then I noticed I had 3 phase CDU's, and the discovery code for the Sentrys only deals with 1 phase units. Here's the diffs of my hack to enable detection of all 3 phases. I think this will work on single phase units as well, although it will probably take a little longer as it scans for the nonexistent phases. Data collection stopped today - running build 3060 - was working fine with that for awhile, so not sure what happened. Remove ports from Web Overview

Hi, I have a performance issue with the Observium Web Interface. The Apache2 webserver needs about 4-5 minutes to load all graphs of some devices. The devices are CISCO NEXUS 5548 switches with CISCO NEXUS 2248 FEX (Fabric Extenders). One 5548 switch will have about 7488 Interfaces when fully populated (48 local interfaces + 48 local virtual interfaces + 24 * 52 + 52 interfaces for the extenders). I do not need to monitor or graph all the edge / access layer ports but only the backbone ports ( 144 ports ). As far as I understand the documentation all ports flagged as disabled are not polled any more and all ports that are deleted are not shown by the Apache2. Unfortunately the poller.php run updates disabled = 0 for all ports found on the device and they are back in the web interface overview. I cannot find the statement in the poller.php debug output but all Ports with deleted = 1 set manually are updated to deleted = 0 after a poller.php run. My question is if there is any way to delete available ports I do not want to have in the web overview or to drain those ports from the web interface. Hi Folks, same issue as Bruce - setting the Date Picker reverts you back to the start-page. Normally, when opening a graph the url is something like: http://observium/graphs/type=customer_bits/to=1334238800/id=server/from=133… Now when changing the time-range and klicking "update" the URL is beeing transformed into: http://observium/index.php/graphs/type=customer_bits/to=1334238800/id=serve… When i remove the index.php from the url i am getting the desired result. Device Graphs page blank

Not sure when this started, but I've got a couple of Linux servers where suddenly the Graphs tab on them blank. The page layout is all there, but the part under the heading Graphs where the graphs and netstats links and graphs should be is empty. PIX 501 support

I have a couple of Cisco PIX 501's setup in Observium, but they are being seen only as Generic Devices: Cisco PIX Firewall Version 6.3(5) Operating System Generic Device Contact support(a)axint.net Location Denver, CO Uptime 291 days, 22h 45m 55s And the only graphs I am getting are Uptime and the ethernet port counters (traffic, packets, etc). Nothing for memory or cpu. ATM interfaces not showing on Device Overview

Hi Adam, I am having a strange issues which I need your help in troubleshooting. I have this 7606 which has ATM interfaces configured but the problem is that when I discover this device, all the interfaces are discovered include ATM ones but as soon as the poller runs, they disappear again. I am not sure how to fix this issues. I am running the latest version of Observium. Thanks for your help. Rather than modifying the poller script, simply commenting out the "mibs :" line at the bottom of /etc/snmp/snmp.conf on your Observium server box is sufficient to get the polling to work correctly. Ubuntu put that line in citing "licensing issues" with the MIBs.

rrd time selection is wrong

It seems like when you select time to show graph it doesn't take in consideration timezone. Basically if I select from 18:00 till now and press update time in "From" field update to 22:00 (I have GMT+4 zone). You can click update multiply times and graph time will be moving after each click.

Since it's a core function of the soft, I guess it would be good that other people give it a try before it is committed. I use NET-SNMP version: 5.4.3. Cisco-vrf discovery - huge performance improvement

Hi, As I wanted to make Cisco VRF discovery SNMPv3-compatible, I realized that it was actually very slow. So I change the philosophy of it (bulkwalk all SNMP info first then analyze in the code), and here's the result for a device with 500 VRFs: Old version : Discovered in 65.83 seconds New version : Discovered in 3.234 seconds At the same time I made it SNMPv3-compatible, and I added the support for CISCO-L3VPN-STD-MIB that is the more recent MIB and the only one supported on the latest releases of IOS/IOS-XR. I tested it with Cisco Hw and it's fine, but for the other vendors implementing the MIB, somebody else will have to test it :) Guillaume

When you open Total Traffic graph, you may see in Legend interfaces which doesn't really exist on this device. Additionally sometimes you may see duplicate interfaces in Legend, which do exist. I wonder what may cause of this and to fix it?
