High CPU alarm

Hi I have a synology nas with 1CPU and 4 cores in it. Whenever 1 core gets a shitload to do I get a CPU high alarm although it's not the combined cpu load that is high. Is there something I can do in the alarm checker to combine the cpu loads of all cores and trigger an alarm when all 4 combined is over for example 80% load? Regards Daniel

Adjust thresholds

Is there any way to adjust the thresholds of alerts in observium? I have a few alerts that don´t seem to be an actual alert, a couple of them seem to almost be bad readings. Screenshot below. These are from HP 2920 Switches.

I just tried a manual upgrade. GUI not loading after OS update

Transferring License to New Server

Hello, I am in the process of migrating the on premise Observium instance to AWS. I want to setup the AWS instance and run it in parallel with the on premise instance for some time to make sure that there isn't issues with the new instance. I have Active Directory authentication working but only for whatever group is "last in the list" for $config['auth_ldap_suffix']. I have a username in the OU "OUAdministrators" and another account in OU "ServerAdmin". Problems with Geolocation and static config of coordinates

Hi I have 1 site that does not show on the map even though I have cofigured it with static coordinates both via "Manual coordinates" option on the devices on that location and also tried creating a config line with the syslocation tag to put it on the same coordinates. $config['location_map']['Lulea'] = "65.5861680,22.1594800"; I can't understand why just this site has this problem and none of the other 50+ sites. Alert checkers - thresholds and grouping

Hi, I’m looking for pointers on how to implement alert checkers with the following requirements: (A) test condition: [ sensor_value greater @sensor_limit ] + buffer - the [ ] part itself works, but I need to add a buffer (offset) for some checks not to throw false positives - I’m aware of the delay option, but this doesn’t help in my case - spelling out something like "sensor_value greater @sensor_limit + 5” doesn’t work for me (B) aggregate / pool over devices -check a number of devices and only alert me if, eg. 5/10 are over specific criteria, e.g.: - check all internal PDU temperatures - if all sensor_value greater X --> alert - I know how to check each device individually: (device.device_id in 82|83|84|85|86|87|88|89|90|91|92|93|94|95|96|97|98|99 AND sensor.sensor_descr regexp internal) - how do I convert this into a “if true for all devices” statement? Lastly, I’m looking for documentation and examples on how to invoke scripts from alert checkers. The documentation appears to be quite sparse [1] in this regard. Hi, In the event/alert log, we have a list of all events/alerts (systemwide, on a single unit, group etc) Would be nice to visualize the count in a single graph. Then we can quickly spot the date/time, when a lot of events/alerts happened. Is it possible to trigger alarm from eventlog text?

Hi I get this in the eventlog for 2 switches and I'm wondering if it's possible to create an alarm depending on what the text in the eventlog says: Te2/0/1 Interface Down: [ifOperStatus] 'up' -> 'down' Te2/0/1 Interface is no longer encrypted In this case I want to trigger an alarm when the text "Interface is no longer encrypted" comes and do a reset of the same alarm when the text "Interface is now encrypted" comes. Is this possible to do with the alarm system in Observium today or is it something that could be implemented? Not sure I can see in snmp if an interface is encrypted or not. I haven't seen anything when I have looked for it. We use macsec in this case. Regards Daniel

Custom OID´s

Hi everyone, I have a big doubt with de Custom OID feature in Observium, I have recently installed the CE and work fine but in my network exist a satelital node with Hughes Technology, like virtual IPGWs, CDSCP, DNCC and other proprietary devices. My question is, can I add these devices for monitoring with the feature Custom OID in the subscription edition? I already have de MIBS from the vendor, but my boss want to be sure that paying the subscription we will be able to monitorize the node. I don't have too much experience with SNMP that's why I'm asking for your help. On other tools like PRTG or OpManager I was able to monitorized the node, but since Observium is too much affordable for our company and I really have a preference for the Observium web GUI. Juniper SRX3000/4000/5000 Session Graphs

It looks like the SRX sessions graphs are kind of broken with the higher end SRX's that have multiple SPUs/FPCs. I saw there was a JIRA bug (OBS-2101<https://jira.observium.org/browse/OBS-2101>) opened a long time ago that observed the same issue. The way these are being graphs right now is via the generic graph module. But the logic to graph this correctly needs something a bit more custom. The code needs to iterate through all the available SPU's/FPC's, potentially on both nodes if it is a cluster, and graph all of the values. Each SPU/FPC has its own set of limits as well. I was wondering why some of my SRX's worked and some didn't. It turns out those that do not have an SPU in FPC 0 will fail to return any results. And those that do have an CPU in FPC 0 might be returning partial results because the other SPU's/FPC's are not being graphed. I have attached debug polls from an SRX4200 that works, and an SRX3600 that doesn't. The SRX4200 starts at FPC0, but the SRX3600 starts at FPC7, so the default index of 0 doesn't work here. Even if the code took the first item in the array, it would still be wrong because it needs to also consider FPC11 and FPC12, not to mention the corresponding FPC's on the second node of the cluster (indexes 33, 37 and 38).

unix apps (10162)

Hello all, on a given debian machine the apache app doesn’t work; there are several tenths of similar servers here, and they’re showing apache infos without issues. The setup has been done like the others. Other apps on the same machine are fine (mysql and postfix), but no apache. Server-status is correct, readable even via links in localhost, and mod-status is enabled. Only seen issue is that, in the /usr/lib/observium_agent/scripts-enabled folder, an empty “Config” file appears just after observium_agent run. Any hint? Thanks and greets. Luca

Huge list of groups cannot be displayed with onMouseOver

RRD folder space problem

Hello, I noticed that Observium started to use up lots of storage space. From ~200Gb it started to use ~400Gbs. Found interested thing, that one device RRD folder tooks ~200GBs instead of ~4-5Gbs. I'm always running housekeeping scripts in cron: # Run housekeeping script daily for syslog, eventlog and alert log 13 5 * * * root /opt/observium/housekeeping.php -ysel >> /dev/null 2>&1 # Run housekeeping script daily for rrds, ports, orphaned entries in the database and performance data 47 4 * * * root /opt/observium/housekeeping.php -yrptib >> /dev/null 2>&1 But seems it doesnt help, and housekeeping log doesn't show errors. VM Configurations OS : Ubuntu 18.04 64bit vCPU : 6 vRAM : 16Gb OS Disk : 40Gb DRBD disk : 350Gb ( for /opt/observium ) Is the HA setup prescribed or using single VM is enough. Basically we want to avoid single point of failure when we implement observium in production. Mailer configuration

Hello all, I have tried repeatedly configuring the mailer agent with limited success. The PHP “email” fails to send via hosts as the from address is not working, it ends up sending as root(a)observium.cstreet.local even if I set the from address. When I set it to use postfix/sendmail from localhost I can get emails to send, and the from address is correct, but then it uses an old hostname “devnew65” as the dns name, which gets it rejected. I have been able to get a couple through our local mail server but the outside gets rejected. I have tried using authentication and it just doesn’t work and is rejected before authentication even takes place due to it’s source ip / dns. Any advice? The debug doesn’t show the actual mailing process or the php command or I would just write a quick php script to test it. Alert transports do not work any more

Hey Guys, I had a fully functional Observium Enterprise installation up to last week, but no alerts are sent out any more today. The alerts log says my alert has been sent out, but this is not the case. If I check the postfix queue, the email related to that alert is stuck in the queue, as it's trying to send the message to who@where, which is obviously not correct. The contacts are still fine though, 4 in total. Our Telegram group also did not receive any message, which has nothing to do with email. I believe something broke in the transport system. Could anyone help to understand what is going on? It definitely did work before. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards, Marco

Alert checkers triggering on down/0 speed interfaces

Since updating to 10134 we've seen some odd behavior out of our high interface utilization alerts. The alert itself is very simple, device matches *, entity is ifType equals ethernetCsmacd, and the test conditions are any of: ifInOctets_perc ge 80 ifOutOctets_perc ge 80 Which has worked fine forever. Now it's throwing alarms on an odd mix of devices (UBNT, Palo Alto, Arista, Kemp VLM, Infoblox) for ports that are down/down loopbacks or HA interfaces not connected. All of the ports it is alarming on show this in the data (Speed 0, and down/down): ifSpeed=>0 ifHighSpeed=>0 ifOperStatus=>down ifAdminStatus=>down Any idea what changed or why it's alarming on these now? I'm guessing its trying to do the 80% math on....0 but I'd imagine that shouldn't even run if the port is admin+operationally down. False Positive Alert if sensor_value is "NULL" / "FALSE"

Hey all, is there any way to check with an alert condition if the return value for i.e. is "NULL" and/or "FALSE"? I have the case that we removed SFP+ transceivers from Extreme devices and the device is now not replying with any value for this OID check. The SQL database contains "0.00000" for the affected sensor. Too many ports on a windows workstation

Hi everybody, I searched the docs for some hints about my problem but I didn't find anything. I'm very new to observium. I installed it in a docker container on a linux nas and I'm very happy with it. The main concern is that on a windows workstation (a nuc box) I have a LOT of interfaces listed: a lot of ethernet, a lot of tunnel interfaces. Fix for random logout

Hi, I spent some time figuring out why I got randomly logged out from the webpage and submitted a patch to https://jira.observium.org/browse/OBS-3132 Basically it was the session_regenerate_id() call that caused it, so I adopted the https://www.php.net/manual/en/function.session-regenerate-id.php suggested way. Well it works for me, try it out if you have the same issue. /niklas

Failure in notification of syslog alerts of the Ob server itself

Hello, Observium is setup to email syslog alerts and it is doing so without any issues of all devices. I have a requirement to email some log alerts of the Observium server to the network team. I did the usual stuff of adding syslog rule and associating with a contact address. The logs (/var/log/messages) are matched by this syslog rule. I can see those matched lines in the Ob GUI. Yet strangely, an email is never triggered. Initially I thought it could be due to the log message and so I tried matching some other log lines, but always the log messages are matched by the syslog rule but email is never triggered. The contact address gets emails of all other alerts. Is there some other settings to enable Observium to email logs of it's own? Am running rsyslog and postfix on the Ob server. Kohler generator issue

Hi, a while ago you added support for the Kohler Generators. (thanks). I am noticing some issues. 1. The generator is listed as in “alarm status” all the time, no matter whats going on with the generator 2. When the generator goes under load, the observium state does not change to reflect that. I have attached 2 screen shots to illustrate as well as a txt file with the corresponding snmpwalk outputs. Also, Kohler has updated the mib, I have attached that as well, can you update the code base with this? thanks Tony

Tiny diff (adding probes)

Hello maintainer friends, I'm not sure the proper protocol to request merging of small added bits, but I added two additional nprobe plugins, check_haproxy and check_ldap, to my install. The diff for probes.inc.php is below, but it also required a small modification to the check_ldap perl script (update hard-coded module dir). The LDAP probe I used is the version in the nagios-probe-contrib package Debian package, not the compiled C version distributed via the plugins tarfile from nagios.org; I used it because the contrib/perl version allows anonymous binding for just a basic service health check and doesn't require user/pwd/base-DN.
