Hello At the night the Observium showed an alert (fortunately) that I never set up in the Alert checks . I see this alert in Global/Alerts and the left up box there is an “1 alert” in the Statuses row. If I click the “1 alert” it shows me that a Cisco Nexus FEX modul’s powersupply EVENT is alert and Status is offDenied. So it is a dead PS. What I can to do if I would like to get alert if this happen again? I have lot of Alert Checks but I am not able to do an alert for this PS check because I don’t know what is the correct Entity match of it. I tried the “sensor_class equals powersupply” and Test is “sensor_value greater 2” (looks the normal PS value is 2, now this failed PS value is 4). But it doesn’t work (no matched entities). alerting problem

Hello, At the morning I was on the 7933 but 2 hours ago I updated to 8039. I used a CPU alert for my routers. In the older version it is worked, I got the alerts via mail and PagerDuty as I set up. Now after the upgrade I would like to test the alerting because on 7933 i “pached” the pagerduty.inc.php for more info in the PD message (the default file just send like “something wrong somewhere” :) So. After the upgrade with the original (nor pached) PD file I would like a test to see how looks out a PD message now. I set a lower value for the CPU alerting (from 50% to 15%) to generate alerting (now the cpu load is 18-25%) After a few minutes I see in the Alers / Processor that my deviced appear and show that the status is FAILED. It is ok. In the Alert Logging I get the “Checks failed” so it is great. But. I never get “Alert notification sent” messages. (I get “Alert notification sent” for other events, so the alerting is working for other services). I see in the Alerts that the router’s status is Failed, Checked 18s Changed 20m 36s, Alerted: never. What I have to do for send the alerts? Or for the debug? Thanks BR Laszlo

Hi, Thanks for the confirmation, it’s great that alerting on an OID will be coming soon and in my case that will work, I’ll keep the App for viewing graphs and use a custom OID to monitor alerts by. Ultimately alerting on data collected by apps would be beneficial but not essential, as it will give neater integration options but I can see the complexities in that, maybe allowing apps to store pertinent stats for alerting in a column holding an array with a sub-array for each app? Anyway, I look forward to seeing the OID alerting soon. DeltaUPS graphs broken after r8016

Well not really... but it will not use renamed RRDs before after a new discovery of sensors. Meanwhile polling will create new RRDs with old names, so it seems you have lost all data. Several hours of data can be missed because of this. Maybe some improvements can be done for that. NOTICE: Please immediately e-mail back to sender if you are not the intended recipient. Holes in graphs

Hello all, We're seeing holes on our graphs (example attached). This appears to be affecting all graphs in our installation on all devices. I know our connection is good (affecting LAN and WAN devices), but looking for any other ideas for correcting this? We have also tried increasing the number of poller processes. Graphs no longer draw after restore

Hi, I recently restored observium to a different machine. I restored the following: config.php mysql db rrd Everything looks good except for the fact that graphs stopped drawing and display data in a real time. When i click on port to see real time data, i get "can't get data about port xxx". See attached images. Any ideas ? Thanks

No memory pools detected for OSX hosts

Hi there, I'm running Observium 0.16.7.8003 (stable) for monitoring OSX hosts which is working great, except no memory pools are being detected for any hosts apart from "Swap space". Memory for OSX hosts did work previously, but after I mailed in re: "Incorrect free physical memory for Unix hosts" and Adam A. made a change, the memory pools have disappeared. Apps tab used to show a single graph per item.

Hello Observium overlords, In the past the Apps tab in observium would only show a single graph per item/array, but with the later versions it shows four graphs per item of varying timelines. Is it possible to configure Observium to only show a single timeline graph per array? When a large number of servers are running the application, it’s difficult to compare graphs when they are displayed in the current manner. Thanks, Ricardo

Device not yet discovered

Hi, Almost once a day I receive the following on one of the switches. Device not yet discovered This device has not yet been successfully discovered. System information and statistics will not be populated and graphs will not draw. This device should be automatically discovered within 10 minutes. It does not go away until I have manually run the /opt/observium/discovery.php Any ideas why? Thanks Laurence

One of my guys has been setting them up overnight but has noticed that Observium reports one of the metrics incorrectly for all of the new units. Ironically the inverter status is, well, inverted. I am adding a variety of linux boxes to our monitoring setup and would like to be able to have users search on an application name or service name and have all servers matching that keyword show as options. power levels for Juniper MX

Hi Looks like there might be a slight issue with the reporting of power levels for SFP's in Juniper MX's. Seeing the following: on the Juniper MX: Laser rx power high alarm threshold : 2.0000 mW / 3.01 dBm Laser rx power low alarm threshold : 0.0000 mW / - Inf dBm Laser rx power high warning threshold : 0.7900 mW / -1.02 dBm Laser rx power low warning threshold : 0.0315 mW / -15.02 dBm But looks like observium is treating '-Inf' as '0' and this throwing an alert. Help in New QoS support

Hi, years ago I collaborated with huawei's integration and its MIBs files. It was before change to a commercial edition Now I've been working on Huawei's CBQoS support, but I have a few questions about. Already I've written for Huawei NE40 family a discovery and polling modules, using the mysql table called ports_cbqos. I found that every vendor has different implementations, even one vendor has different implementations for each their models. My questions: 1.- Could I create a new table or just modify the ports_cbqos table. 2.- Right now I have finished this URL and it's working fine: http://10.184.8.136/device/device=1/tab=port/port=8/view=hqos/ (a new VIEW called hqos and I know you can't reach it but I can create a public address) I do not know how to integrate it into the navigation panels or port links (How to chose between cisco's qos or huawei's qos when somebody follow the cbqos link) I think we need to create a new QoS module with multi-vendor support. SNMP Changes and rediscovery

I've recently switched several devices off of SNMP v2c to v3, and I've updated my config.php with all the v3 parameters, and I'm wondering if there's a way for force a re-discovery using the new info without having to go into each individual device and enter in all the new SNMP information? I didn't see any flags in for discovery.php that would force it.

db.log

Hi, I've had a small Observium (c. 5500 ports) running for a couple of years (SVN version). Have configured housekeeping, which is fab and has kept things from getting out of hand. However, noticed /opt/observium/logs/db.log is a 5.6GB file... Can I clean this up? Should I be running a cron cleanup task on this? False Alert (snmp)

Hi, After a power outage, the front page (and Status Warnings and Notifications) is showing a Cisco device's Ports as Down, of all ports that have NO devices (workstations) connected. The alert I have defined (taken from the example) Port is enabled, but operationally down ifAdminStatus equals up ifOperStatus notequals up * ifType equals ethernetCsmacd I have run the poller.php multiple times with no success. Is there a default amount of time until these warnings will be cleared, is there a process that can be run to clear these alerts? Thanks Laurence

Email Alerts Not Working

Hi, I have recently installed Observium and updated to the stable version. I have successfully configured a number of alerts, however despite the alerts being generated (I see them via the web gui) I do not receive them to email. Using test_alert.php -a 1 (see below) I am able to receive email, however the test email looks a little empty from what I would expect. I have searched your webpage and FAQ and can't seem to find answer to my question: Do you guys have a list handy describing what each of the poller and discovery modules do exactly? $config['poller_modules']['system'] = 1; $config['discovery_modules']['os'] = 1; I am working on a new deployment of Observium and am trying to optimize it and configure some custom requirements and it would be helpful having some additional information regarding each module. Slow poller speeds after migration

Hi All I have moved from a VM server to a physical server. as the VM was taking a bit of a pounding, graph dropouts etc The physical server is a dual quad core Xeon, 2.66Ghz with 128GB of RAM and a 32GB ramdisk, and rrdcache I also have 2.5TB or SAS storage in a raid6 config Will all of this my average poller-wrapper time is around 60 to 70 seconds per device if I manually run an snmpwalk a single device takes around 6 seconds I have also disabled the ramdisk, rrdcached etc and I am not seeing much of a difference either way I have around 900 devices and the VM server was way faster, any idea where to start looking for a bottleneck? Real time graphs on single page

Observium team, We were curious if it's possible to display multiple real time graphs at once on a single page? It would be great if we could find the ones we want, enable the feature, and display them all full screen in our NOC. Do you know if this is possible, or if it's something on the road map? As the real time graph displays the device and interface name already, it seems like it would work well to just stack them. For now, we're having to load multiple pages in separate windows. Adding a new application - missing details

I sent this Saturday but never got a copy, so im sending again, hope it's not a dupe! Hi, We are running unbound as two instances on our servers, one is a auth with a custom backend and one that is just caching. I have made a copy of all the files and updated names accordingly so they are unbound_auth* and unbound_cache*. Ive looked at the instructions on http://www.observium.org/docs/developing/add_app/ and have made all those changes as well. Under the main apps page how do I get a 2nd link to show up for the unbound app metrics im collecting? Ideally id have one that is Unbound-Auth and one that is Unbound-Cache. When I go under the properties for a server and then applications it shows nothing know as the "unbound" namespace is missing and is either unbound_auth or the unbound_cache (or unbound-auth and unbound-cache in those places). Ive looked around in various files and grep'd everywhere that I can think but can't find where this is at. Also I don't see anything in the database, so not sure what im missing. Thanks!

Event and alert dates show as 0s in summary tables

Getting different results for same interface in original port and the billing port sections

Hi there, I am seeing different throughput results for the same port at two different section of the Observium GUI: The Port summary shows that the the throughput we were getting between 08 Jul to 18 Jul was almost ~ 8 Gbps (in each direction. However, the bill says it was ~ 6 Gbps between that period. Not sure, which one is reporting it correctly. I would expect both of them to match exactly. Thanks! Morning All, We've been trying to remove the spike from a Traffic accounting graph with no success. Alert checker sending email notifications every polling round

Hi all I have an odd alerting issue where I am receiving email alerts about a failed check each time a polling interval passes. Checking the alert_table for the device_id in question I see that it has_alerted = 1 and everything else appears to be in order. Wondering why I am getting repeated alerts, pretty sure with my other alerts I have configured I only get one when the alert triggers and another if the ‘send recovery information” option is checked. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated. I have tried disassociating my email address from the alert and also rebuilt alerts. Thanks

Google map not showing devices after fresh install of Subscription Version

Finally got everything to work, well at least I thought. Ldap, alerts, etc are all good now. Except I just get a blue map with no host locations. I made sure to put my location in each host properties. Any thoughts? Thanks, ----------------------- Leo Dano

Call to undefined function check_valid_sensors() on IPMI & Unix-agent polling

Hi there, When polling with either IPMI or unix-agent modules enabled, the polling run stops with this error: Sensors: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function check_valid_sensors() in /opt/observium/includes/polling/unix-agent.inc.php on line 174 I've updated to the latest non-stable release, and no change. I've also historically had this issue and cleared my /opt/observium directory and re-installed but no change. Any ideas? Happy to provide more info if needed. Many thanks Olly

Adding users for alerts?

NetApp c-DOT updates

Hi! I just updated to 7961 and saw that NetApp c-Dot is now reporting volumes like it has done for long on OnTAP 7. Great :-) However, the total and used capacity are all 0, so something with the Index is wrong or simply not done yet. Anyone knows if this is a known issue and being worked on, or ? /Jesper

Hi Steve, What do you mean, not getting any data? You said the graphs show up fine? Care to share a screenshot? Also copying the mibs doesn’t work, as this is custom OIDs, the whole meaning behind it, is that you don’t need the MIBs for that. Hi, I could use some guidance here. I have recently upgraded to the subscription version of Observium so that I could add some custom oids to graph. I am running on CentOS 7. I followed the guide here: http://www.maartenmoerman.nl/?p=649 No problem adding the oids and applying them to the devices. Graphs show up fine but I cannot get any data. I have also copied the MIBs to the /opt/observium/mibs directory. The MIBs have a *.txt extension on them. I have tried removing this but still no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Steve
