Hi, I've had a small Observium (c. 5500 ports) running for a couple of years (SVN version). Have configured housekeeping, which is fab and has kept things from getting out of hand. However, noticed /opt/observium/logs/db.log is a 5.6GB file... Can I clean this up? Should I be running a cron cleanup task on this? False Alert (snmp)

Hello, Today for no known reason we received the below alert in the "Recent Events" (and via email), everything on the switch appears to have been ok and could not find any issue that should have caused this alert. 6h 36m 15scisco10g1 cisco10g1 Device status changed to Up 6h 36m 16scisco10g1 cisco10g1 Device status changed to Down (snmp) Is there a timeout that may have caused this that i can increase to avoid false/positives? Ports Shown As Down

Hi, After a power outage, the front page (and Status Warnings and Notifications) is showing a Cisco device's Ports as Down, of all ports that have NO devices (workstations) connected. The alert I have defined (taken from the example) Port is enabled, but operationally down ifAdminStatus equals up ifOperStatus notequals up * ifType equals ethernetCsmacd I have run the poller.php multiple times with no success. Is there a default amount of time until these warnings will be cleared, is there a process that can be run to clear these alerts? Thanks Laurence

Email Alerts Not Working

Hi, I have recently installed Observium and updated to the stable version. I have successfully configured a number of alerts, however despite the alerts being generated (I see them via the web gui) I do not receive them to email. Using test_alert.php -a 1 (see below) I am able to receive email, however the test email looks a little empty from what I would expect. I have searched your webpage and FAQ and can't seem to find answer to my question: Do you guys have a list handy describing what each of the poller and discovery modules do exactly? $config['poller_modules']['system'] = 1; $config['discovery_modules']['os'] = 1; I am working on a new deployment of Observium and am trying to optimize it and configure some custom requirements and it would be helpful having some additional information regarding each module. Slow poller speeds after migration

Hi All I have moved from a VM server to a physical server. as the VM was taking a bit of a pounding, graph dropouts etc The physical server is a dual quad core Xeon, 2.66Ghz with 128GB of RAM and a 32GB ramdisk, and rrdcache I also have 2.5TB or SAS storage in a raid6 config Will all of this my average poller-wrapper time is around 60 to 70 seconds per device if I manually run an snmpwalk a single device takes around 6 seconds I have also disabled the ramdisk, rrdcached etc and I am not seeing much of a difference either way I have around 900 devices and the VM server was way faster, any idea where to start looking for a bottleneck? Real time graphs on single page

Observium team, We were curious if it's possible to display multiple real time graphs at once on a single page? It would be great if we could find the ones we want, enable the feature, and display them all full screen in our NOC. Do you know if this is possible, or if it's something on the road map? As the real time graph displays the device and interface name already, it seems like it would work well to just stack them. For now, we're having to load multiple pages in separate windows. Adding a new application - missing details

I sent this Saturday but never got a copy, so im sending again, hope it's not a dupe! Hi, We are running unbound as two instances on our servers, one is a auth with a custom backend and one that is just caching. I have made a copy of all the files and updated names accordingly so they are unbound_auth* and unbound_cache*. Ive looked at the instructions on http://www.observium.org/docs/developing/add_app/ and have made all those changes as well. Under the main apps page how do I get a 2nd link to show up for the unbound app metrics im collecting? Ideally id have one that is Unbound-Auth and one that is Unbound-Cache. When I go under the properties for a server and then applications it shows nothing know as the "unbound" namespace is missing and is either unbound_auth or the unbound_cache (or unbound-auth and unbound-cache in those places). Ive looked around in various files and grep'd everywhere that I can think but can't find where this is at. Also I don't see anything in the database, so not sure what im missing. Thanks!

Event and alert dates show as 0s in summary tables

Getting different results for same interface in original port and the billing port sections

Hi there, I am seeing different throughput results for the same port at two different section of the Observium GUI: The Port summary shows that the the throughput we were getting between 08 Jul to 18 Jul was almost ~ 8 Gbps (in each direction. Traffic accounting Spike Removal

Alert checker sending email notifications every polling round

Hi all I have an odd alerting issue where I am receiving email alerts about a failed check each time a polling interval passes. Checking the alert_table for the device_id in question I see that it has_alerted = 1 and everything else appears to be in order. Wondering why I am getting repeated alerts, pretty sure with my other alerts I have configured I only get one when the alert triggers and another if the ‘send recovery information” option is checked. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated. I have tried disassociating my email address from the alert and also rebuilt alerts. Thanks

Google map not showing devices after fresh install of Subscription Version

Call to undefined function check_valid_sensors() on IPMI & Unix-agent polling

Hi there, When polling with either IPMI or unix-agent modules enabled, the polling run stops with this error: Sensors: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function check_valid_sensors() in /opt/observium/includes/polling/unix-agent.inc.php on line 174 I've updated to the latest non-stable release, and no change. I've also historically had this issue and cleared my /opt/observium directory and re-installed but no change. Any ideas? Happy to provide more info if needed. Many thanks Olly

NetApp c-DOT updates

Hi! I just updated to 7961 and saw that NetApp c-Dot is now reporting volumes like it has done for long on OnTAP 7. Great :-) However, the total and used capacity are all 0, so something with the Index is wrong or simply not done yet. Anyone knows if this is a known issue and being worked on, or ? /Jesper

Hi Steve, What do you mean, not getting any data? You said the graphs show up fine? Care to share a screenshot? Also copying the mibs doesn’t work, as this is custom OIDs, the whole meaning behind it, is that you don’t need the MIBs for that. Steps to add custom oid

Hi, I could use some guidance here. I have recently upgraded to the subscription version of Observium so that I could add some custom oids to graph. I am running on CentOS 7. I followed the guide here: http://www.maartenmoerman.nl/?p=649 No problem adding the oids and applying them to the devices. Graphs show up fine but I cannot get any data. I know this has been asked/answered, but the whole archives thing...what's the history behind [the lack of] support for IS-IS data in Observium, are there any plans to add it at any point, and would it be of value to anyone else? Even basics like warning on adjacency changes, tracking neighbors over time, etc. would be great...I would personally find it of value for an additional sanity check during maintenances or outages - an ISIS health overview tab for a device with the ISO address/area, participating interfaces, and stats. Generalizing the data pool: any current thoughts around creating an abstraction layer between Observium and its data source? Mysql as the sole backend presents some challenges for us in trying to scale Observium to production. OBQL? :) Sort-of on the tails of that last question, has there been any discussion about adapting Observium to take advantage of network devices which emit metrics using thrift/protobuf? E.g. using some other data pipeline/collection system as a data source...or even doing the collection itself and doing the necessary quantization/processing to produce a useable view. Last one in that train of thought, any thoughts around incorporating additional data collectors other than simple snmp polling (e.g. facebook's udppinger or fbtracert)? Alert for port-channel summary?

Hello, We have Cisco Nexus switches with VPC configuration. On the switches are configured a portchannel (in VPC with 2x10G ethernet) to the same 3. device. The problem is: I would like to create an alert if the traffic to the 3. device more than 8G I have to get an alert. Now because the 2 nexus just show only the own port-channel traffic, if one portchannel traffic on switch#1 is 6G and on the switch#2 is 5G the 8G alert doesn’t work. But because of the redundancy in this case I have to get an alert because the aggregated traffic is 11G (and if one of the 10G goes down this traffic is overloaded). The alert is: Test: ifOutOctets_perc gt 80 Device Match / Entity Match Hostname match *switch* ifAlias match *to 3. device* So it cover the switch#1 and switch#2 and the port-channel interfaces with description “2x10G to 3. device” but this alert check the port-channels like a line not an aggregated traffic. Is there any option to add two device’s interfaces and create an alert for this summary? Or can I create an alert for a port group aggregated traffic? This would be great in this case too. JunOS autodiscovery where SNMP is in a routing-instance

Hi, I’ve been reading up on how to interact with a JunOS device where the SNMP agent is contained in a VRF (Routing Instance). In order to poll it properly, I’m required to use '<Routing_Instance_Name>@commmunity' instead of just ‘community’. I think I’ve covered this off in the config.php by adding the equivalent to the proper array: $config['snmp']['community'] = array(“comm",”MANAGEMENT@comm”); While reading up on the autodiscovery process itself in the documentation, it says: "Devices must return valid, resolvable sysName” When I poll it manually, sysName returns <Routing_Instance_Name>@hostname: SNMPv2-MIB::sysName.0 = STRING: MANAGEMENT(a)lab01.juniper Does that mean MANAGEMENT(a)lab01.juniper needs to resolve, or will Observium truncate MANAGEMENT@ when trying to resolve the rest of what is in sysName? Making an alert for mapped interfaces

Hey All, I want to create an alert if any interface between two managed/discovered devices in Observium. This includes switchers and routers, servers...etc. I'd also like these to be based on Observium's device Mapping that is available per device. In the checker conditions I'd put hostname matches * but under the checker device and entity association. There's no entity for mapped devices whether it be via CDP/LLDP or detected from observium itself. Perhaps I'm missing the obvious. Thanks! Heston

Subscription Version not showing "Storage" correctly?

Hello all, I have two instances of Observium running with two different hostnames. One is Community and one is the Subscription version. My Community version on is showing storage correctly. My Subscription version is not. All the partitions are showing as 100% free and green when I know / can't be 0bytes as well as all other partitions. Is this a bug? Hello This was touched upon in another discussion but as a sidetrack no solution was found. Pretty much all my alerts 'time or recovery' reports the time of this entities PREVIOUS recovery. So the time reported are always pretty bonkers. I can see that with the help of timestamp on the emails , slack notifications and the timestamp of previous recovery. And for the very first recovery of a device/sensor the duration is list as "unknown". Alert on device status = degraded

Hi There Is there a metric for normal packets per second and not only unicast packets (ifInUcastPkts_rate) and also a metric for non unicast packets per second. According to the doc at http://www.observium.org/docs/entities/#metrics_1 this is not existent... I would like to make an alert on high pps and if possible on high non unicast pps. Tripp-lite UPS Alerts

I’m trying to set up alerting for our tripplite when it goes on battery. I cannot get it to work properly for some reason. Entity Type: Status Check Conditions: upsOutputSource.0 ne normal Device Match: os eq poweralert Entity Match: * Observium Version: 0.16.7.7983 (professional) -A debug from observium yields a value of: upsOutputSource.0 = normal (the normal changes to state of “Battery” when on battery) -Even if I change my check conditions to eq normal to test the alert it does not trigger an alert. -I also tried check conditions of * and that did not help.
