I have a bit of an odd one. I have two printers in my observium install. One has been in for ages (an HP laser jet), the other I added a couple of weeks ago (A sharp MFD photocopier thingy). By the looks of things, the HP has been collecting data correctly for ages, and graphing it nicely. I can see the pretty line that shows that the toner has reduced over time. Oddly, it stopped collecting on the 7th July, and hasn’t graphed anything since then. The Sharp, which has been in less time (since Thursday 7th), has never graphed its toner properly. They are both showing the correct level of toner (well, the Sharp is showing two of them at -3, but I’ve checked the snmp output, and it’s returning -3, so that’s nothing to do with observium). Even more weirdly, the toner level on the weekly graph is showing the correct number. The rest show -nan% The Sharp: The HP: I don’t know much about how the graphing side of things works, so I don’t have much knowledge with which to do any debugging, but happy to send more debug info if required! Incorrect free physical memory for Unix hosts

Hi, Loving Observium in general but the only issue I'm having is that for all our Unix-like hosts the free memory is reported too literally to be useful. The cached memory pool is included in the "used memory" count, causing almost all our hosts to appear as having less than 5% free physical memory. Is there a way to get free memory not including the cached memory pool? Currently the alert checker I'm using is flagging all our hosts as "out of memory" Many thanks in advance Oliver B

Request for Nutanix MIB support

Any Email alerting on the CE edition

Arch -> extension (since 16.04 upgrade)

Hi, Just completed a release upgrade on Observium itself (14.04 to 16.04) and now it is reporting its own architecture as 'extension'. Wouldn't be an issue really, but every single time it polls it updates the event log like this: I've attached a debug output of the poller as this may help to track it down. Interestingly, a lot of our other servers run 16.04 now but it only reports this for 'itself' - not the others. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers! Make a custom aggregate graph

Hi The Graph that is on the Overview page with all ports combined, can I do my own? I have dualhomed servers (vmware hosts) and I would like to have a graph with all switch ports that is used. poller-wrapper.py does not run, but poller.php does

Hi Guys, Newbie here. I just installed the latest version of Observium (subscription) onto Ubuntu 14. It discovered my Cisco router, 15 Cisco switches, and 4 Microsoft servers no problem. HOWEVER, poller-wrapper.py does not run. Days later, still no polling. I have this line in /etc/cron.d/observium: */5 * * * * root /opt/observium/poller-wrapper.py 16 >> /dev/null 2>&1 If I manually run /opt/observium/poller-wrapper.py I get this error: "ERROR: Could not load or parse observium configuration, are PATHs correct?" If I manually run poller.php, all the devices get polled just fine. I don't have a PATH statement in crontab. I can add one, but I'm not sure exactly what to add. I also notice that Joe Snijder's post says the syntax should have the word "python" after "root". Does that make a difference? Please help! ID of graph changes and "jumps" between storage on server

Hello I have an issue that bugs the heck out of me. Not sure exactly what's going on but in short: First of all, when I write ID I mean the ID in the url when looking at the graph for a storage attached to a server. Like "....//graphs/to=1467822524/id=219/type=storage_usage/from=1467736124/" where the ID is 219. The storage I monitor on this OSX server is connected via iSCSI, NFS, SNFS and Avid ISIS. What happens is that when rebooting or if a storage is disconnected and reconnected the above mentioned ID changes. Not alway but very often and it gives some odd subsequent errors like alert checkers being triggered for the wrong storage. Which I don't know how it's even possible since I assume they're not based on ID in the background? An ID that can have gone missing or changed... It also seems messes with the graphs since in some situations looks like it can get stuck in a mode where wrong storage are monitored and graphed into another storages graph. Real odd and not sure that's really whats going on or if it's snmpd on the server that reports wrong. Hi For some reason getting interface statistics stopped about 3 weeks ago for some devices. I'm updating observium every day so problem exists for several versions. Affected are only 2 of around a dozen Cisco ASAs. I cannot see this problem on other device types. How to give permissions to view a device

Hello, I want to give access to a specific device to a specific observium user. This user should not see the other devices that are being monitored by observium. I have created the new user as a normal user (level 1). As expected, when I log into observium this user has access to nothing. My question: where do I configure what devices that this user should have access to? Or where in the device configuration do I configure what users may access the device? I apologize if the answer to this question is obvious and I missed it while googling. Thanks in advance, Tobias

Alert check on custom IOD / Customers and L2TP

Hello, Observium is a great tool and I'm still getting my hands on it. I've encountered the following issues and hope somebody can help me : 1) I'm trying to do an alert check on custom IOD but haven't found how to specify this in the check conditions. Is there's any way to do this ? 2) I activate the Customers and L2TP in the config.php file and I'm trying to make it work. Do you have any more informations about how to configure my equipments ? I manage to configure Transit by specifying "transit" on the port and it works great. A colleague of mine told me that there used to be a wiki page about this before but it seems it's not online anymore. Thank you for taking the time to help me. -- Greg

Google maps API

My first mail, please forgive me if I'm doing this incorrectly. Have Observium running wonderfully on Rpi 3. Got a Google Maps Api key. Where do I put it? Looked in the HTML/JS folder but struggling a bit. Also, and I suspect these are typical of newbies (although I'm monitoring a few servers just fine), what settings recommended for monitoring a shared website host? Either by IP address or URL? Problem with my Observium DB Error

Hi, i have some problems in the last days with my Observium. I have the subscription and for log time works fine. But in the last week have errors all time and my server are slow... When this happen my apache give this error on the browser: DB Error 1040: Too many connections For this read in the FAQ need edit the /etc/mysql/my.cfg and set the max_connection=500 but nothing change. or this another error: DB Error 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'sending authentication information', system error: 32 When execute the restart complete server works fine a few minutes and experiment the same errors and nothing works. Any have any idea whats happen and the solution? Thx BR Santiago

overview page of Historical availability of specific alertcheckers

Hello, Is there a way to get an overview page of the status of all the historical availability graphs of a specific alert type? So for example a page with all the DeviceDown alert type checks, with per device the row of graphs of the historical availability of the check. And preferably filtered by the devices in a group. I have tried to activate "Ignore device for alerting and notifications." under "Device settings" and set at time in "Alerts" but that didn't work. monitor nfs mounts

Hi All, I’m just trying to work out how i monitor the mounted nfs drives i have on a server? ive disabled $config['ignore_mount_network’] but still nothing? can this actually be done? i only want to see the folders that are mounted as a storage drive in observium and see the percentage thats being used i would just monitor our NAS drive directly but sadly the NAS storage drive is very old and doesn’t support SNMP but we are looking at a new one with SNMP support :) regards Simon - Hestor Ltd

Billing fails on specific interfaces

Hi! I was testing billing and with certain interfaces it reports no data, despite the graphs clearly showing data. My thought is that it may relate to the interface name as it works well with other products and interface names. The "special" think is that the interface name has a colon in it. Linux Firewall/Conntrack stats

Debuging slow SNMP-queries

Hey guys, I noticed I have some devices in my network that are responding very slow on just some specific SNMP-queries so I hacked together a small script that will parse the debug-output of Observium poller or discovery and then show you a list of the snmp-commands that took the longest to complete. You should monitor your Dell server using snmp on the idrac itself like its a different device. The most important thing is the global status It will display in alert in the statuses front page. The global status is the color of the led when it's amber you have an issue. Now you will be able to see that in observium as well. Good luck. If you're getting notifications that your devices are down, you have some pretty serious network problems, as it takes quite a lot to actually mark something as down. Adam. SNMP just sometimes has a hickup. Although usually I don’t have these, but in order to prevent panic/heart attacks, I did introduce that 1 time delay on my device down alerts. Haven you applied alert checkers on port-errors all around your network as well? CRC/port errors, and things like these you might want to fix first before you actually get in to device down alerting. Just a simple "ifInErrors_rate gt 0 & ifOutErrors_rate gt 0 on ifType equals ethernetCsmacd” alert-check will give you all these ports. you’d be surprised how much stuff is wrong in an average network. Also certainly check the port to which your observium machine is connected to, and make sure to monitor your observium machine as well, make sure your machine is well specced out. In addition to this, I’ve configured IP SLA on all our core routers to see/verify that latency on our links is within the SLA parameters of our suppliers. Do this before you check on devices down. I'll echo this sentiment. We were seeing a large number of false positives because of lack of SNMP response from some devices even though they were responding to pings without problem. Setting a delay of 1 reduced the number of alerts we were seeing substantially. We do still get a couple devices that will fail both checks, usually right after the discovery run, and we'll get an alarm on that, but it clears itself next poll. Hello, I am currently trying to completely replace our cacti installation with Observium. One of the last things that make me hold on to cacti are these kind of graphs: [cid:image001.gif@01D1C580.2CFF4E30] The graphs are described here: http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8520 We have put the most important interfaces on our NOC screen and can immediately recognize if some interfaces are under unusual high load.
