Hi Adam, I found the wiki page to make perfect sense after looking at some examples. Hi all.. im trying understand how to make different alerts in Observium.. for testing im trying to creat a alert that will hit all device and set the flag if diskspace becomes 90% used. For that i used the storage_perc alert and created the alert like this: Check condition: storage_perc gt 90 Associations device match: os match * Associations Entity match: storage_perc match * Now the example i found in the documentation was here: http://observium.org/docs/alert_checker/ and was for mempool_perc. Now i know my storage exampel doesn't use the same entity match but thats because i don't understand what that is? My logics behind my alert is like this. Check condition see if storage usages reach 90% or more. Association device is to set what devices in observium should be hit by this alert. Empty Chart

I know I missed something but not sure what. Just did a fresh install of Observium on Ubuntu 14 LS and everything except the charts are working. All devices are reporting processor info, temp, errors, ect. It is just that the charts are empty. Anyone have any suggestions as to where to start looking?

Hello, I'm sure this is quite simple, but how do I send the alerts listed in the eventlog straight to email as they are listed. https://<observium-server>/eventlog/ So as they come through, they are send immediately to an email address. Thanks ! Ross.

alternative to svn update

Hi , I was trying to update to latest version but our firewall does not allow svn as protocol. I downloaded the latest stable version using wget instead and tried to locate new folder under /opt/. I got permission denied error on /discovery.php -u Is there a better way to upgrade than this risky method if SVN is not an option? Thanks, Sujith. Hy *, I just noticed that observium_agent returns a <<<md>>> section: 1.) Question: is there actual a way of monitoring the state of linux softraid devices in Observium, I just do not know? Documentation / google is quite silent about this question. :-) 2.) If no, how can this be implemented? Idea #1: Introduce a “(red|yellow) Alarm” state even for Unix devices, as most common network devices have. So this technique can be also used for different kinds of alarms (Raid, Network, ECC, …) a. Yellow Alarm: Raid degraded b. Red Alarm: Raid broken :-) Idea #2: Is this something, which can be implemented “outside Observium” (e.g. by some “geniuos” snmpd-configuration lines in snmpd.conf) and Observium just uses the normal “(yellow|red) Alarm” way, which is already implemented? I've actually come accross quite a few devices that specify configured telnet and http ports and the like in their snmp tree, we could definitely make use of those. I cant seem to find what the problem with the config file is so I need some help. Please note im not a PHP guy but a networking guy. When browsing to the site all that is shown is is the config file in txt form. See in attached files. I think I removed something fron the config frontpage but I cant seem to find what.... If you're running multiple simultaneous pollers against the same device is not unthinkable they'll all be trying to insert the same data into the table... Alerts not clearing

I’m going to piggy back off the issue of the Alerts not clearing. I’m getting the same issue and I’m pretty sure its SQL config related though I don’t know much past that. For example if I add a new device, I will get alerts for ports in the Admin up / physical down as I’m checking for that with an alert checker. That’s to be expected as I haven’t had a chance to turn off alerting on interfaces I don’t care about yet. Once it polls I turn off polling/alerting on interfaces (such as access ports) So if I go in and turn polling/alerting off on those interfaces I’d assume the alerts would clear. However the alerts persist and keep firing even if I have them turned off on those specific interfaces. I have figured out I can manually clear these alerts by restarting the mysql service. How to add support of new sensors for new (unknow) device

Hello! I am very interested in adding support of new device series to Observium - NetPing (www.netping.ru) - devices for monitoring server rooms and remote power management. Could you please suggest how can I add support of the sensors for unknown (for Observium) devices? I have access to SMNP MIBs of this divices and can read value of any sensors via SNMP. For example I know the OID to read the temperature from one of the sensons: .1.3.6.1.4.1.25728.8800.1.1.2.1 Could you please explain how can I show this temperature on a graph in Observium? Hi all, I've installed latest Observium community from a couple of months and it's working well. I need to use some graphs in other internal websites for monitoring, so I linked them directly using the URL of my observium server in the remote web server page. So, for example one link can appear like this: http://OBSERVIUM_SERVER_IP/graph.php?device=173&type=device_processor&legen… In this "mode" I can see the graph correctly but it's a simple blank page with the graph and legend but without hostname or any reference on it. Do you know is there is an option to add at graph.php to create hostname in the image? Alerts not clearing

Hi, We seem to have an issue with alerts not clearing (after they are OK) from the Alerts list. Example below shows a checked called “Hardware Fault” which matches Warnings, Alerts and Down status for devices. These items (two output phases) were above a threshold for a period over the weekend, but then went back below it and the event cleared. Incorrect memory graph for large RAM amount

Hi, Just discovered a weirdness when I added a server that has 3TB of RAM : the ucd_memory graph is totally messed up. It only displays negative amount of Cache/Shared buffers. The legend shows that it didn't handle the 3TB correctly. But it seems to be fine for the health/memory view where the correct amount is displayed everywhere. Hi, I am in the process of qualifying some hardware to run Observium (planning to deploy it in about 25 locations). So I was trying to evaluate the hardware we currently have which consist of Dell R610 and IBM X3550. So we can gauge what we need. The R610 has : - 2x Intel X5660 (6 cores 2.8Ghz + hyperthreading) == total of 12 physical cores and 24 logical - 96Gb of DDR3 1333Mhz - 6x300GB 10K SAS configured as one raid1 of 2 disks for mysql and OS and a raid5 of 4 disks for rrds. - 1Gb network interface The X3550 has : - 2x Intel L5420 (4 cores 2.5Ghz) == total of 8 physical cores - 32Gb of DDR2 266Mhz - 2x200Gb 7.5K SATA configured as one for mysql and OS and one for rrds - 1 Gb network interface So reading this, it seems easy to guess which one should be faster. I am currently testing using : Observium CE 0.15.6.6430 OS Linux 2.6.32-358.14.1.el6.x86_64 [amd64] (CentOS 6.2) Apache 2.2.15 (CentOS) PHP 5.6.11 Python 2.6.6 MySQL 5.6.26-log SNMP NET-SNMP 5.5 RRDtool 1.4.9 From my testing, the poller perform a quite better on the R610 than on the X3550 : Polling the same 310 linux boxes (The slowest devices taking around 35 seconds) this gives an average of : - 8 threads : R610 : 169 seconds X3550 : 213 seconds - 12 threads : R610 : 69 seconds X3550 : 156 seconds - 24 threads R610 : 41 seconds X3550 : 107 seconds - 36 threads R610 : 41 seconds X3550 : 160 seconds - 64 threads R610 : 37 seconds X3550 : 225 seconds - 96 Threads R610 : 40 seconds X3550 : Still running Ok we clearly have a winner here. Bottom line for the poller, you can come close to the time taken by your slowest devices if you add more threads. But it seems that you need quite a few cores available to be able to increase the number of threads without decreasing the efficiency. This was kind of expected. Where the thing becomes weird it's on the web interface and especially the graph rendering : On average starting with a clear cache, the same Linux device page render (graphs included) consistently in about 1 second on the X3550 and in about 4 seconds on the R610 (screenshot attached). Where it became even worse : if you ask the X3550 to connect to the mysql database of the R610 and export the rrds of the R610 over NFS ... the X3550 still render the page faster (still around 1 second). Any guess on what is going on here ? It doesn't seem right that a machine that is definitely faster accessing mysql and updating rrds would be 4 times slower when rendering graphs. Alert checking on port state change

Hi all, I'm starting to get my head around Observium alerts. I want to be alerted if a switch port that was previously down comes up, and vice versa. I don't want to get repeatedly alerted when a port is down (or up), only when it changes state. At the moment I'm using tests "ifAdminStatus equals up" and "ifOperStatus notequals up" for one alert, but I appear to be getting notifications each time the poller runs. Good morning all I have a new server setup with Centos 7 and Observium Everything looks good except I can't add any devices. I get an error that says it can't ping the device. I can ping when logged in from the terminal by IP and by Name. FPing also works from the console. IP tables and Firewall have been turned off for trouble shooting. I can add users etc. This is a replacement box so the devices are all configured correctly. Total loss here.

Hello Sujith, When you set an alert you can set the number of polling runs before the alert actually fires. Under Alert Checkers set the "Alert Delay" for the checker to 3 or 4 and see if the results improve. If you are polling every minute you might start a polling run while the previous polling run is still happening. I would up this from 1 minute to about 2 or 3 minutes at least. Would be good to hear other comments on the fast polling time.
