Good Morning/Afternoon, We are currently trialling Observium on several of network components and so far are impressed with the community version however threshold and state alerting is an important feature that would complete the package for us and enable us to deploy it network wide. With Careflight being a non-for-profit organisation and the IT department being a ‘cost’ department our budget is heavily scrutinised and any cost has to be suitably justified. Although we are impressed with Observium and believe it would be a great solution for monitoring our remote sites throughout Queensland, unfortunately we doubt that the cost would be approved by the higher powers as this is something that is currently ‘out of budget’. So this leads us to ask, would it be possible to get a discount/donation on the subscription charge for the professional version of Observium for CareFlight? Hello, anybody else seen a Problem with Observium and Switchports been displayed with the wrong Vlan (off by one)? This happens with Observium CE 0.14.11.6000 Observium says in the view "device/device=229/tab=ports/": Port 28 VLAN 999 29 VLAN 507 30 VLAN 999 31 VLAN 999 under Eventlog: 2015-05-26 16:01:35 29 Interface changed: [ifVlan] 999 -> 507 But it was Interface 30 that was configured. In previous Version this Problem didn't existed. Does somebody knows a solution for this? sincerly, Jordan

Hi All, is anybody else having issues buying a subscription i’ve just gone to renew my subscription using the new panel and it has just completely fucked up! 1. enter Companys VAT number, price doesn’t change, still £180 2. just says Thank you for payment and page was blank 3. client area still showing no subscription 4. Friendly Names for Ports

I checked the Observium netiquette - I did not see a "please do not repost questions." - If I'm breaking an unwritten rule then I do apologize. Does anyone know if there is a way to apply a friendly name to ports? It does not appear possible in the Community Edition front end, however, is it possible to do this via the database? Hi, some modern system (like ubuntu 15.04) used python3 by default. Since old poller-wrapper not compatible with python3, today I added experimental *poller-wrapper3.py* which should work with both (2.x, 3.x) python versions. Check wich default python version used in your system: /usr/bin/env python -V Python 3.2.3 If default is 3.x, than use new wrapper in your crontab. Note, in python3 required additional PyMySQL module (since MySQLdb unavialable for python3). In ubuntu/debian install by this cmds: sudo apt-get install python3-setuptools sudo easy_install3 pip sudo pip3 install PyMySQL How to install on other systems I do not know, welcome your tips. -- Mike Stupalov http://observium.org

What SHA and AES does Observium use?

What are the key lengths of these algorithms that Observium uses? I have some firewalls, which require to set explicitly which algorithm they have to communicate with Observium. However, I cannot make it work, even though I tried all the key lengths on my firewalls. How to get the same number of graphs on both Windows and Linux machines?

I have a number of Windows and Linux machines, which communicate with Observium server. Linux machines report way more information than Windows. Is it possible to get more data from Windows machines? I just installed a new obs server using the professional edition. For some reason all my graphs are empty. I think this maybe due to rrdcached, but I have no idea why. Also when I run the poller in debug mode I saw some SQL errors? Is this something I should be concerned about? Every time it has been due to a SNMPD bug on the fortigates. There is an issue with several firmware versions that returns invalid values for interfaces that have been recently deleted (usually vlan subinterfaces or ipsec interfaces). When this has happened snmp on the fortigates will still return values for everything apart from anything referencing the deleted interface (which is still in snmp somewhere). I have logged a ticket with Fortinet about this (in Feb 2014) and it is supposed to be fixed in newer firmware versions (although I have seen it crop up again on ‘fixed’ versions). When it is in this state snmpwalk actually fails the following query snmpwalk -v2c -c public fortigateIPAddress ifType Error in packet. Reason: (genError) A general failure occured Failed object: IF-MIB::ifType.45 (in this example 45 was snmp index of the deleted interface). The fix for us has always been to kill and restart snmpd on the Fortigate (on all cluster members if it is a cluster). You’ll need to find the process ID of the snmpd process and then kill it; watchdog will automatically restart it and then it’ll be fine. show running processes diag sys top 30 99 kill snmpd process by process id diag sys kill 11 <process ID> I don’t remember if you have to do a discovery after this or if it will return to normal on the next polling cycle. Interested to hear if this solves it for you – also interested to hear what firmware version you are seeing this on. Not showing ports on Juniper EX4200

Hi Everyone, I have just added a Juniper EX4200 to my kit then added it into Observium, however for some reason it does not list the ports. The JunOS is the same version as my other switches which are fine and if I discover the switch manually on CLI by device ID it appears to retrieve them fine. I have checked the SNMP config of the device against my other ones and they are the same so assume it is maybe something else. Any tips on how to resolve this would be appreciated. The system doesn't show graphics

I installed Observium on Ubuntu server. I followed all instructions available on the Observium web. However, the system doesn't show any kind of graphics. Also, I want to add a new Linux device with snmp v2 client installed, the system can't reached with the v2c features. Finally, I attached a screenshot of the linux server I could add it using CLI. Fortigate Ports Disappeared

Hi Everyone, Has anyone else had this problem? All of a sudden some of the critical ports have disappeared, first though it was SNMP process crash on the firewall however simple snmpwalk proves that's not the case. I then deleted device including RRDs and re-added, now none of the ports are showing :( [cid:image001.png@01D088DB.DC99D9B0] I'm on 6404. Still getting alerts this morning. The te2/0/2 device had counters cleared yesterday, this alert comes in this morning and counters are still good. TenGigabitEthernet2/0/2 is up, line protocol is up (connected) 0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored I don’t think my alert is configured incorrectly as I pulled it directly from online documentation. Newbie - Mini-graphs (Mouseover & Device Title Bar)

Dear All I've checked the FAQs and document, and apologise upfront if this is a stupid newbie question. I also apologise for using cheapo switches. I think I've followed the nstructions correctly, and my install looks to be okay and working. I've added two switches: Zyxel GS1920-48 and Netgear GS728TXS. Both are communicating and collecting data. In the Devices page, when I hover my mouse over the Zyxel I get graphs for Traffic, Uptime and Ping Response; however when I hover it over the Netgear I only get the Traffic graph (this also applies to the mini-graphs in the Device's title bar). If I use the graph filter I can see I'm collecting Uptime and Ping Response for both switches. Is there a way to configure this? Many thanks in advance, James

Hi Guys, I am not sure if this is possible but I would like to be able to add a check in Observium that will monitor the state of a Mitel PBX Alarm state and then report what the state actually is. I know what the snmp variables are that I will have to use to achieve this and I can snmpwalk the PBX to get the correct results but I don't understand as yet how to apply this knowledge to Observium. I actually have a perl script that works with Nagios to do this but I prefer the Observium interface. The check the alarm state on the Mitel PBX we can use "snmpwalk -v 2c -c public HOST 1.3.6.1.4.1.1027.4.1.1.2.2.1.0". If the response in INTEGER: 1 then there is no alarm, 2 is MINOR, 3 is MAJOR and 4 is CRITICAL We can then use "snmpwalk -v 2c -c public HOST 1.3.6.1.4.1.1027.4.1.1.2.2.4.1.8" to retrieve the actual alarm details. Just a point of note, since I'm not near my laptop and can't collect the requested debug information right now... I've got two ASA55xx running 8.2(5) firmware and am not having the problem on those devices. I also am polling a PIX525 running 8.0(4) firmware, and that is the only device where this graph error is showing up. It would be great to see and/or be able to expand the map to include all our switches in the same LAN in more than 1 level, or at least know if there are more switches behind another switch in the Map-view. Just started to use observium , it's a great product :) I have a problem with a Core switch Procurve 8212zl, Adding the device with SNMP works great! but after a while all the interfaces gets automatically deleted ..The observium device loggs just shows Interface was marked as DELETED. Anyone knows why this happens?

Hi, there. I just installed Observium system on Ubuntu server. I followed all instructions on the webpage. However, I found two problems: 1. I add a Linux server. Almost everthing was Ok. However, I couldn't see the graphics. The Observium showed the Error Drawing Graph. 2. I couldn't reach a Windows server with snmp protocol v2 installed. But, the Observium showed the following information: Could not reach 192.168.110.202 with given SNMP parameters using v2c Any ideas? While setting up Alerts in Observium I noticed both our Cisco 6880-Xs have Fan Tray 1 50V Power Supply status is false. Looking at the show environment I don't see any issues. Anyone else have these boxes reporting similar Alerts? I did see another thread similar to this, but this seems a little bit different. inodes monitoring

Hi all We have a Netapp storage, and apart from used/free space, we need to monitor used/free inodes, because our applications sometimes generate lots of files and we run out of inodes. Can this item be monitored? This data is published by Netapp using SNMP, so I think this is not parsed or displayed in Observium, is it right? If so, can it be enabled? Inodes can also be monitored for local filesystems. Regards. Disable Alerts Per Location for Downtime

Is there a “simple” way to disable alerts for a location? I have some scheduled power outage for a site and was wondering if you can select multiple devices to temporality disable alerts rather than go into each device one by one. I also forward alerts to my phones sms email so it will generate hundreds of sms once they go down. I do have my devices set up with locations though I’m not sure you can do anything with that. -Tom

Hi all, My first post here. First I must say that Observium is the most easy looking open source tool I have ever seen :) I'm trying to figure out a few config items that maybe someone can help me with. Autodiscovery If I'm using $config['autodiscovery']['xdp'] = TRUE; and $config['autodiscovery']['snmpscan'] = TRUE; First it does not seems to add any devices discovered with LLDP/CDP, nor have I found a way to do a snmpscan based on my subnets (also added) 1.) Does Autodiscover work as the config file says the feature is not yet added? PTR/DNS Does observium require a PTR record for every device or just a valid host name trough SNMP? How about FQDN? WMI Seems to be a topic not much covered and not really supported, however in the modules section of a device, let's say a server one can find an on/off switch for WMI and also a settings page. Does this mean WMI is somewhat supported or just a GUI glitch? Thanks

Overrride bandwidth on a port?

Is there a way to override the bandwidth on a port that I can't change what is reported via SNMP? For example I have a 50Mb MPLS on a 100Mb Ethernet port. can't get temperature chart

Hi All, not sure if this is a bug with my browser or a bug with Observium I go into one our mikrotik switches, click Health, then into Temperature if i then click the System 0 the page just keeps refreshing and going back the the same page ? it doesn’t appear to be taking me to the Temperature graphs ? i’ve also noticed that the Temperature page isn’t showing any graphs unlike the Storage or Processor pages ? NTPD monitoring script

I have been running this for a few weeks now and haven't noticed any issues with it. I'd like to see how the script works on a larger variety of systems before I would call it finished. Cisco switches not Polling to observium

Hey guys So as the headline reads im trying to get the graphs working to observium. I have 2 3560 cisco switches running which can ping to observium host, also the host can ping back. i have a community set up xxxx which i tried on my workstation and it works sending to observium. But trying on the switches seems to be a bit more difficult. When running php poller script i cant seem to find any errors when greping so i think to problem is with the cisco conf. When i take a look in the obserivum host under pollerlog it would seem that my workstations was last pollled but not any of the switches, Last Discovered seems to work just fine. So what do you guys think? Im not to sure where the problem is i might be in the linux host, but im not an expert at linux nor php. Do any of you guys think you might be able to help me out ? Also i have tried to remove the device and adding it again but still no luck. In observium i get this message even though i have waited 24 hours: error drawing graph Device not yet polled This device has not yet been successfully polled. System information and statistics will not be populated and graphs will not draw. Please wait 5-10 minutes for graphs to draw correctly.
