A strange issue indeed… Based on Mike’s input I ran on the old-style poller for a day, then all is fine. I’m now running on poller-wrapper for another day, with concurrency set to 2, and that seems to be fine as well. I had it at 8, then all goes to h*ll. Alerts in "Other" state

Hi, I have quite a few alerts stuck in the "Other" state, any idea on what causes this? I had this problem a while ago and then it seemed to disappear after creating a few more alerts and several svn updates so i'm not really sure what cleared it but after adding more devices it's back again. I've tried regenerating the alerts a few times but that makes no difference, is there some debug that can be turned on to work out what is going on here? It's across multiple alert checkers and even something as simple as "device status eq 0" for a device down check has multiple alerts stuck in "other" state. Server drive space

Hello, I want to monitor windows servers for C drive space. While I had a policy that was using the storage_perc gt 90 and it was working fine, I want to monitor instead just for servers with 5 GB of space or less, on any drive for now, then narrow it to certain drives. I put storage_free lt 5 (thinking this would look for 5GB or less, maybe its 5% or less not sure) but it's throwing some alerts that are not true. I get some servers with the art and when I check it shows as if the C drive had 0 B left, but in reality they have 11 GB and more free. Any idea how I can accomplish what I want? Thanks, Darian

Running Ubuntu 14.04 and getting this error message: The extension 'mcrypt' is missing. This extension required for use by the "remember me" feature. Please install the php5-mcrypt package on Ubuntu/Debian or the php-mcrypt package on RHEL/Centos. Alternatively, you can disable this feature by setting $config['login_remember_me'] = FALSE; in your config. We've uninstalled and reinstalled it twice now and still getting this error. I found an option to do ignore until ok on the interface settings. But it is really unrealistic to do this manually for hundreds of ports. Any easier way to achieve this? I do want to monitor ports status, but I don¹t want to get a flood of alerts every 24 hours. Thanks a lot. 95th percentile and billing module - possible discrepancies

Hi I thought I would post here first, just in case what I am seeing isn't a bug, and just me just mis-understanding the calculations. Just a quick setup - we currently are billed on a 95th percentile from an ISP, which we have two physical ethernet connections plugged into two different HP ProCurve switches. I have created a Bill under Traffic Accounting, and set the billing type as 95th @ 50 Mbps, and added both the ports for our connections so I am able to see both under "Bill Ports". This has been running for about 6 - 7 months now, calculating away. While going back through our reports, I noticed that in September we had an overage marked in Observium as 11.4Mbps (Actual usage 61.4Mbps). However the bill we got from the ISP gave us an overage of 30.38Mbps (Actual usage 80.38Mbps). So I went to look deeper and got the break downs I needed. Our ISP gave us the following for the highest 95th: Link1: 50.375Mbps Link2: 30.005Mbps Total: 80.38Mbps I then looked on Observium for the graphs for the two ports, and they reported the following for the highest 95th: Link1: 49.64Mbps Link2: 30.44Mbps Total: 80.08Mbps I can accept that two different systems there may be a very small discrepancy with the larger numbers - which is fine, however -- the problem arrives when the billing calculations comes in, and shows the values as above (11.4Mbps over, 61.4Mbps usage). I have uploaded the two port graphs and a screen grab from the billing page to show in more detail the above numbers here: http://imgur.com/a/iErfo I just want to check I have not missed something that is staring me in the face in regards to the calculations, and if I am, please let me know! error on svn update

This issue just popped up. I verified that the username/pw for my paid subscription is valid. I can reach the svn.observium.org url from the server (tested with curl). I do still however get this error: root@observium:/opt/observium# svn update svn: PROPFIND of '/svn/observium/trunk': Could not read status line: Connection reset by peer (http://svn.observium.org) wat?

Hi, We have some switches with thousands of ports. I know, we don’t have administrative down for unused ports. So I set up port down alerts for all ports, so that the initial alert of the down ports, I just ignore so I know those are ports already down. So the theory is that for any following alerts, I will look into them. But I found out observium will send out the massive port down alerts exactly in 24 hours frequency. How do I disable the persistent alerting? I want observium only alert me once for an event period. Thanks a lot. —Zhenhui

Overriding location codes

We've got custom locations defined in config.php so all of our devices use a 3 or 4 digit location code for snmp, Observium reads the location code, checks config.php and sets the full address. We have some devices that do not have location in snmp so we set it manually by overriding it in the device settings. However, overriding sysLocation and providing a custom location does not compare that location to what is setup in the config.php. So can a custom location setting check config.php for the value? polling issues with 5897

Hi, Updated to the latest svn version yesterday, after which I immediately had issues with the poller. Updated from a release about two weeks older. Now I get up/down for different devices, sometimes complete BGP neighbours down on others. Device down alerts on snmp, etc. I increased the number of poller processes in the crontab and increased snap timeout values etc. However, I still have graphs with large parts missing because of this. Checked poller times, kept an eye on the processes running and logs. Some devices take 120s to poll completely, but all polling is done in about 2 minutes. Still I get these errors, other than the upgrade no changes have been made to firewalls, policies, etc. Any clues? Do I need to upgrade php? Regards, Rutger

Hi I just installed Observium on Debian 7.6 : Observium CE 0.14.4.5229 Apache nginx/1.2.1 PHP 5.4.4-14+deb7u14 MySQL 5.5.40-MariaDB-1~wheezy-log SNMP NET-SNMP version: 5.4.3 RRDtool 1.4.7 I have added 80 routers ( Cisco / Juniper / HP ) and most of them display fine. Couple of Q's - Exchange - it's not pickup up any data, but maybe this is because we're using 2003 - is this "supported". I use the quotes as the wmi stuff is listed as very much in development so possibly not working.. MSSQL - again no data, all zeros like with exchange. I tried the polling.php wmi specific command, but I can't see any wmi stuff particularly - just the standard snmp. Thanks in advance andy

Hi Adam, Thanks. Tricky this – I’m trying to sell observium to management, who are playing hardball and trying things like netsight from extreme (any negatives for this!?). Anyway, monitoring exchange and MSSQL are big positives towards my argument. WMIC is used for the connection and querying, so perhaps I’d best look at the php behind it if time permits. We switched from opmanager to observium in July. Clients love the dashboard and look of observium. I would say observium is one of if not the best. We previously used logicmonitor, nagios, opmanager, cacti and others. The monitoring in observium is limited - to what scripts you can write and integrate with the platform. I can see site2site tunnels as active and can see the traffic but can we also monitor its state and alert on this? Or get a site2site uptime number? Polling script

Has anyone done a script where it can every 30 minutes or every hour read server names from a text file and add the device and discovery and poll it automatically ? I want to be able to add servers into the domain and have observium discovery them automatically via snmp. Sent from my iPhone

Integrated smokeping graph appearance

The integrated smokeping graphs don't have the same appearance as they do in smokeping itself. Is there a way to make the graphs have the same appearance? Also, the data represented in Observium doesn't appear to match smokeping when looking at the variance. I've attached examples. I realize that it's the same rrd being drawn but it's just the representation of the data that is different. Smokeping 2.6.8 and Observium 0.14.10.5883 Justin

Invalid device/port combination

After an upgrade a while back I began to receive a message "Invalid device/port combination" when selecting the hyperlink for a port on any device. I upgraded recently to 5770 and still experiencing this issue. The URL http://observium.domain.com/device/device=70/tab=port/port=10234/ gives the following message. High discovery time on Mikrotik ARP/NDP table

All, I'm seeing an issue where on some of my Mikrotiks, mostly the RB2011iUAS model, the arp-table discovery takes upwards of 200 seconds to complete. I was wondering if anyone else is seeing this, or runs these models and sees a high discovery time on them as well? Thank you, Nicholas Beacham

ActiveDirectory (LDAP) authentication very slow

Hi, I'm running observium from the latest TurnKeyLinux distribution and I'm having some trouble getting the AD to work correctly. I have copied the configuration from this page: http://www.observium.org/wiki/Authentication_modules#Active_Directory And made modifications to match our environment (Changing the DN's, suffix, prefix, groups and changed the STARTTLS to FALSE). Our AD is based on Windows 2008R2 To get it working I installed the php5-ldap on the TurnKey distribution using the apt-get install command (and did nothing else than reboot). The normal mysql will let me login as intended (speedy and no delay) - but when switching to LDAP I initially couldn't login "Authentication Failed" until I removed the following line from the configuration file: $config['auth_ldap_group'] = array("CN=Observium Users,OU=Groups,DC=ad,DC=example,DC=com"); (I had of course modified it to math our configuration) When removing the line I am able to login - but the login (and the following page loads) takes around 63 seconds. My questions is: * Why is the page load taking 60+ seconds when using LDAP OR how do I troubleshoot it (seems like a timeout situation) * Why do I need to remove the "auth_ldap_group" line to get it to work? Device Dependency

Is there any chance of getting some type of device dependency? I.E. We used to monitor with Cacti but now we are almost 100% with Observium. The IP SLA Jitter monitoring is great. (CISCO-RTTMON-MIB) Observium currently picks up and records this value. Hello, We are using subscriber edition 0.14.9.5815, polling juniper QFX3500 switch (two switches - Virtual Chassis cluster). After adding the switch and running discovery.php, interface descriptions are recognized just fine, however when the device gets polled for the first time, all interface descriptions get removed.
