Manually edit the port name / description

We have a Zyxel DSLAM ADSL switch and Observium is polling fine, but it doesn't pull the customer name field. Is there a way (if I can figure out the OID) to add that to the polling or manual set a description for each ADSL port? Real time graphs resets much before

Hi Team, I was doing some "real time graphs" for interfaces on one of our switch devices. I ran the tests for 15 seconds of Polling interval. The page says the "graph shows last 3600 (60 mins)" but it seems they get resets in 4-5 mins and restarts itself. Has anyone see anything similar before? Version of Observium : CE 14.4.5229 Thanks! I can see the neighbours and computers on the vlan on right side , the command looks like show ip arp Maybe it's better to map the computer to the port itself? sh mac address-table So out of the box we will know which server is connected to which port. I tried that. But seems only a few module are listed there. I think if I disable any of them, a big class of monitors would be disabled with it. I am looking for a way to disable certain mib/objects. The ports on the switches doesn't seems to display correct network throughput

Hi Team, I installed Observium recently. It seems to be working just fine. However, I do see discrepancies in the throughput result. When I run a network performance tool (Nuttcp) on one of the server and monitor the corresponding port on the switch through observium. I observe that the the server is generating around 9.8 Gbps data. If I check the ports directly on the switch I see same thing (~9.8 Gbps) but when I see in through observium on the corresponding port , I see frequent spikes to 12 - 15 Gbps. I am not sure why I am seeing these high value because the NICs on servers are having a 10 G NICs and I never see anything higher than 10 Gbps on server or on the port on the switch. But the real time graphs on Observium shows the spikes of around 12 - 15 Gbps. I would be really glad if you help me on this. I really like the tool but the discrepancy in the throughput result is kind of driving me crazy. Thanks! Hi, All I tired many ways to make email working. But seems to be out of luck. >From linux command line, mail prove to be work on either local sendmail/postfix or via external smtp server. Php test email works either way as well. But observium seems not able to generate any alert email. A tcpdump session would not capture any email data as well when my configured alert checker fires off an alert. Vendor advise us to upgrade the code to latest, which we can’t do without significant amount of coordination. So I am trying to figure out how to make observium not to poll it. didn’t find from gui. If I delete the mib definition from the mibs/ sub dir, would that be enough? Thanks a lot.

FW: FTOS 9.4 not working properly with Observium whereas 8.3.12.0 for Force10 switches

Hi Team, I recently installed Obervium I am in process of adding my switch devices to Observium network monitoring tool. It seems that my Force10 S4810 switch with FTOS 8.3.12.0 displays correct graphs whereas the Force10 S4810 switches with FTOS 9.4 doesn't display graphs correctly.It works partially, but doesn't display a lot of other information. The website http://www.observium.org/wiki/Supported_Devices says they have tested FTOS till 8.2.1.2 and I can see it works fine at least till 8.3.12.0. So Iam not sure what should be expected for higher version of FTOS. It works just fine with Arista OS 4.13.6F I'll be really glad if you can look into this. Thanks! alert checker based on a specific mib value?

Hi, I am trying the enterprise observium version now for the alert checkers. I understand that we could add checkers based on existing conditions and metics listed on http://www.observium.org/wiki/Alerting_Metrics_and_Attributes But say, if I want to alert on another mib value not listed here, is there currently a way to do so? for instance, I have this mib listed under mibs/PAN-MIB-MODULES panSessionActive OBJECT-TYPE SYNTAX Integer32 MAX-ACCESS read-only STATUS current DESCRIPTION "Total number of active sessions." ::= { panSession 3 } Can I add an alert checker to put condition as panSessionActive gt 100000 ? Email Alert setup

Hello, I was able to get some alert checks going but email doesn't seem to be working. When I try the test_mail.php script it eventually times out giving me the following. ./test_mail.php -h fwtec.sup.domain.local Sending test notification for fwtec.sup.domain.local...Mailer Error: Failed to connect to myemailserverl.protection.outook.com:25 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: Connection timed out (code: -1, response: )] done. my config.php has the following for email settings. $config['alerts']['email']['default'] = "xxx@mydomain"; $config['email_from'] = "Observium <observium(a)mydomain.com>"; $config['email_backend'] = "smtp"; $config['email_smtp_host'] = 'mymaildoman.protection.outook.com'; $config['email_smtp_port'] = 25; $config['alerts']['email']['enable'] = TRUE; $config['email_smtp_auth'] = TRUE; $config['email_smtp_username'] = 'xxx@mydomain'; $config['email_smtp_password'] = 'xxxx'; $config['email_smtp_timeout'] = 10; I am able to successfully telnet to my email server on port 25 but can't seem to send. Port errors

I just saw I had a warning on port errors and looked at it. It is monitoring a Juniper switch interface. From the legend I can't tell what the "m" stand for for the y axis. would this be resource errors from the switch interface stats? Errors: 275, Drops: 0, Framing errors: 275, Runts: 0, Policed discards: 0, L3 incompletes: 0, L2 channel errors: 0, L2 mismatch timeouts: 0, FIFO errors: 0, Resource errors: 11740453 Thanks, Darian

Empty graphs

Hi all, just installed Observium CE 0.14.4.5229 on a CentOS 6.5 64bits in VMware Workstation 9 environment : no problem thanks to well done install procedure (http://www.observium.org/wiki/RHEL_Installation); added manually network devices via following commands with no errors : ./add_device.php xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ./discovery.php -h all ./poller.php -h all crontab updated as stated in install procedure ; Everything seems OK during all these steps ; When looking at the results via web interface, I can see all (CISCO here) devices with all their discovered characteristics (type/model, soft version, interfaces, % RAM, % CPU, thruput figures on interfaces, ...) but no graph is drawn at all (even after 4 hours) ; by the way, the graphs legends are correclty, and the grids too, but no curve drawn; when looking at /opt/observium/rrd directory, I can see a sub-dir created per each disvovered device and inside each of them, 1 RRD file created for each collected variable ; (each device RRD subdir is about 40MB after a while, RRD files inside are not empty) Any idea to investigate more about those empty graphs ? thanks for any help

Hello Chris, thanks for your feedback; in the meantime, I had downloaded and tested the netdisco demo VMware appliance and got some problems ; I posted the following mail on the netdisco mailing list but did not get any feedback yet; if you have any ideas, thanks in advance Joel ************************************************* newbie in netdisco, just downloaded and tested netdisco demo VMWare package (V1.0 netdisco version ... a bit too old maybe, even for a test) To run a quick test, 1) I just edited community values and uncomment "discover_only =" statement followed by a comma-separated list of IP routers to be discovered in /usr/local/netdisco/netdisco. conf ; I let "#discover_no =" statement untouched ; 2) then, I restart netdisco via : ./netdisco -p restart ==> OK after a few minutes, I still did not see any IP routers added on the discover_only list shown via web interface; nothing shown in /usr/local/netdisco/data/logs apart from messages related to "netdisco starting" 3) so, I tested the 2 manual commands below via SSH : ./netdisco -d xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (for 1 single IP) ./netdisco -r xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,yyy.yyy.yyy. yyy, zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz, .... for my list of IPs routers Both commands work successfully and results are OK via web interface Questions : a) what else should I do to avoid having to issue the manual commands and let netdisco do its job ? b) with recent netdisco versions, is there a function that allows to export resulting infos (such as the Devices List with their discovered ard/soft infos) as a CSV file for example ? thanks for any help *************************************************

Alerts for Network devices›

Hello, I just need basics on alerting if device is down or maybe if VPN interface is down etc. Attached I set an alert to just try and find devices that are currently "up" to see if it discovers them with the names starting as fw*. Once it works I will change to check for devices that are “down” What am I doing wrong here since it isn't finding anything.

Hello, newbie in Observium ; is it possible to configure Observium to limit its job to get only the informations available on the main Devices panel ? i.e. Device/Location, Platform, Operating System, Uptime/Sysname so, nothing about interfaces, CP, RAM, ... This would be for quick and basic Device inventory purpose only for some environments The idea is to reduce the total discovery/polling time to the minimum for this basic inventory, otherwise, this could last very long time in case of 100's of devices to deal with. thanks for any advice

Hi Guys, For some reason Observium is giving Draw Errors on all of our graphs. This started happening after the latest svn update. We have this error on our live observium and our staging/testing one. Does anyone know how to fix this? Apache 2.4 config (for newer versions of Linux)

I saw in the list archives that someone recently asked about using newer versions of Linux with Observium. ok great, I will get a few basic alerters programmed and await an update at some stage with further examples. I will update tommorrow if the alerts have been successful. I like the send recovery toggle - sometimes the little hamster would go ape for up to 20 emails with a missed SNMP down. Glad to send the end of that. 6500 PSU Voltage Check

Hi All, I was wondering if I could configure alerts for the voltage on a couple of 6500 power supplies (to try and alert on power failures). I've used the Entity Type of Voltage and this picks up the Enitity's from the 6500 (110/220v AC power supply, 2500 watt 2 - Power Supply 2 power-input) however I'm unsure on how to configure the 'Check Conditions' and 'Associations'. The below is a guess for the check conditions: Metric Condition Value sensor_voltage lt 220 In Associations I have simply put * * which I suspect is incorrect. Has anybody else tried setting up checks on voltage? Thanks Jake

I have never had to add them or go near them as the version I was originally running just simply emailed me with Device down, device up, device rebooted, or if I wanted it to - port down etc So the new version will not do this by default? Thanks for your replies, I have un commented the line "$config['poller-wrapper']['alerter'] = TRUE;" , and also confirmed that I have the correct cron job configured. I then gave the VM a reboot as It is one of the devices that I observe. Unfortunalty i did not receive an email alert, so I reboot another device for a full 5 minutes so I should have received 1 x email alert for device down and 1 x reboot alert. I did not receive either. Is there a way I can monitor/watch the email being sent or processed to confirm that it is indeed happening? Hi, I have been using Observium for about 1 year successfully and recently, approximately 3mth ago, I subscribed to the paid version, upgraded via SVN and copied my config.php. I’m trying to get RSS working. php-mcrypt is installed and under “My Settings” it says my RSS/Atom key was created. I can’t find any documentation anywhere that explains anything further.

I was able to svn add the new file I copied and modified as well as make the diff file with the changes I made to the other files. How would I go about submitting my changes/adds to you to verify and commit? Or does the svn add accomplish this? I am not well versed in the use of svn. Avtech Room Alert 4E support?

Thanks! I managed to get it working. Not perfect but returns the 2 temp sensors I need. There is no internal humidity sensor on the 4E so may remove the humidity code as well. For reference I modified the definitions/os.inc.php roomalert os to use the 4E mib. I then coped the 24E sensor .php and modified it to use the 4E mibs and had to change the OID from 5 to 6 (the different product code) otherwise the mibs are almost the same up until the extra sensors that are available in the 24E. I see on the website that the 24E is the only one supported currently since they have different MIBS. (FYI they no longer sell the 24E in NA). I have been able to get it to discover as and AVtech device but I had to modify the roomalert discovery and poller php files to add a space to RoomAlert as the sysDescr on the 4E is "Room Alert 4E v3.1.1". I see the 4E mibs are there as well but the temp is not getting polled properly. Is it possible for me to make modifications to get the temp polling properly? If so where should I be looking to get the 4E MIBS working properly? I am not sure where the mappings are done etc. Is this difficult to do? remove old event log data

Hi All, hoping again someone can assist me with my problems or questions… i fixed the WMI problem i was having a few weeks ago, however it has left loads and loads of Device rebooted event logs in my database is the an easy way of deleting this data as really i only wanted the log to show once? not really 2,000 times…. I’ve attached a screenshot of showing the data from the mysql i was simply gunna do 'delete from event log where reference = 2447807' but im not 100% sure incase i screw anything up in the database as its a running live system i use regards Simon

Hi, Further to Pav's comments earlier, I’ve found that setting the “no-parse” flag in syslog-ng stops it from messing with the string and restores some reasonable sanity to the messages which get passed to Observium. Clearly something has changed within syslog-ng from Ubuntu 12->14 and this new issue is nothing to do with the Observium-importing-the-message element. For anyone suffering the same fate, the actual setting syntax to be used within the Observium definition for syslog-ng is: source s_net { udp(flags(no-parse)); }; This restores 100% normal message structure for /most/ of the devices I’ve just tested with, including all the IOS 15.x ones which had all started showing simply "%" as the message content. The ones which are still a little bit broken are the IOS-XR based units as they seem to pass a load of process name, event log number, process number, favourite colour and other random crap in the “message” element. However, they were all a bit broken before all this anyway to be fair. Hello, Anyone know where I could get an understanding of how to interpret the graphs for network devices? Is there any documentation to help explain what to look for in devices for packet loss or problems with service? I don't see a way to tell packet drops like you would see on a device normally.

fixing graphing of FortiGate memory (used to work, now broken)

Hi Guys, Short version: Fortinet memory stops showing in Observium after updating due to Fortinet MIBS not being where Observium expects them. Hack Solution: mv /opt/observium/mibs/FORTINET-* /opt/observium/mibs/fortinet/ ./discovery.php -h all Long version: We have been running a very old version for a long time ( 0.14.1.4945 ) and it's been ticking along nicely but I've finally found some time to do a test update to the latest svn and ran into an issue with Fortigate memory. I ran a discovery with debug; attached as "memory debug.txt". If I run one of those commands manually I get the following: root@clone:/opt/observium# /usr/bin/snmpget -v2c -c 'test -snmp' -OvQ -m FORTINET-FORTIGATE-MIB -M /opt/observium/mibs/rfc:/opt/observium/mibs/net-snmp:/opt/observium/mibs/fortinet 'udp':'testdev.test.local':'161' fgSysMemUsage.0 MIB search path: /opt/observium/mibs/rfc:/opt/observium/mibs/net-snmp:/opt/observium/mibs/fortinet Cannot find module (FORTINET-FORTIGATE-MIB): At line 0 in (none) fgSysMemUsage.0: Unknown Object Identifier (Sub-id not found: (top) -> fgSysMemUsage) The FORTINET-FORTIGATE-MIB files don't appear to have changed but Observium appears to be looking for them under "/opt/observium/mibs/fortinet/" when they are actually just under "/opt/observium/mibs/" After doing this: root@clone:/opt/observium# cd mibs root@clone:/opt/observium/mibs# mkdir fortinet root@clone:/opt/observium/mibs# mv FORTINET-* ./fortinet/ and then running discovery again memory stats came back. Pagination on edit settings?

Is there *any* way to get pagination added to the edit setting pages? F/ex the "Sensors" page is unusable on a majority of my devices try waiting for load/render when you've got something like a fully loaded Juniper EX9214 so you can disable a sensor alert on one port ... ~300 ports - it's just pure pain assuming it finishes at all. And then you have to set PHP's limits so high to get the submit/save to work. Another issue is I kind of need an ability to occasionally do a "reset all" on the limits page. Individually checking off hundreds of sensors is a completely unnecessary waste of time. I got a problem with my new install. i get messege: 2014-08-25 11:00:01 "host" System Device status changed to Up 2014-08-25 10:55:07 "host" System Device status changed to Down (ping) its always down 5min, and if i ping the host its up. its just observium that think its down. ive google it and tried ping settings in config and i dont get it to work. someone know whats wrong? //magnus

Can anyone help with an issue we are having regarding alerting. Every since updating a few weeks ago, we no longer get email alerts when outages occur. I have verified that the email on the server it self is working, we simply get no events generated when things go down. Did something change in this regard?
