Observium on CentOS 8

Has anyone had any luck installing Observium on Centos/RHEL 8 yet? And is there any plan to support it in the future? I'm trying to do so and not getting any errors, but I've also been unable to get the graphing to work. The only packages I've been unable to install are php-sodium and MySQL-python, but I got the impression they weren't absolutely necessary from the basic software requirements. Using Observium after moving VM

Hello all, Been scratching my head on this one. All I did is move the Observium VM from one network to another (closed). I cannot seem to figure out why I cannot add new hosts. No firewalls in the way. SNMP verified running on the host. Hosts are pinging each other. Is there a command to verify what is wrong between Observium and a host and why it's not adding? I am using public as the SNMP community name. One thing that does seem odd is this message when trying to add a host. No reply on given community *** using v2c, it showing the 3 asterisks versus it saying public. Any suggestions would be awesome! Leo

Apache dies with Segmentation Fault

Hi, we are currently using Observium CE 19.8.10000 as a test installation to monitor part of our switch/router infrastructure (currently about 290 devices, mostly Cisco). From time to time we have problems accessing the UI, the web browser just answers "Page does not work - observium did not send an answer - ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE". When I check the error.log in /var/logs/apache, I find lots of lines like ... How to exclude temperature sensors from virtual machines?

Hi We are using Observium Professional: 20.2.10301 (rolling) Some of our VMs (ESXi) have temperature sensors shown in Observium (either green 100deg. or red 0deg.). This doesn't make any sense and i am searching for a way to disable this. The strange thing is that this happens only for some of our VMs (regardless of the distribution). An Event Log annoyance

Hello, I'm currently running Observium 20.4.10353(rolling) in my test (home office) environment. I had to restart everything 2 days ago when I brought in a new desk and rearranged. I'm monitoring 4 devices: a server (running observium), a Cisco ASA 5505 firewall, a Cisco wireless access point, and an APC UPS with Web/SNMP Management card. Everything is working fine since the restart, except that every 5 minutes I get a new entry in the Event log telling me about how my ASA rebooted; I'm attaching a screenshot. That's the only device that's showing up in the event log. How can I convince observium that it doesn't need to keep telling me about it? Issues with IP SLA

Hello experts, Need some help to understand how observium handles IPSLA probes links. We have a fully working weathermap with IP sla information (jitter, echo, etc) all nice with nodes and links. Links are configured this way: LINK A-B INFOURL /graphs/type=sla_jitter/id=10495/ OVERLIBGRAPH /graph.php?height=100&width=512&id=10495&type=sla_jitter&legend=no INBWFORMAT {link:this:bandwidth_in:%0} OUTBWFORMAT {link:this:bandwidth_out:%d} BWLABELPOS 50 50 TARGET gauge:../../rrd/router_A/sla_jitter-cisco-rttmon-mib-1100020-LMR_IO.rrd:rtt:rtt NODES Chicago Washington BANDWIDTH 34 Now the problem that we have is that when observium server loses connectivity with router_A (i.e. network outage, check below) It will generate a new ID for the link to the graphic hence we have to go to the editor and update INFOURL and OVERLIBGRAPH ID values. As shown below the ID is 12961 for SLA 1100020 whereas above the ID configured was 10495. Traffic Comparison widget wrong after moving interfaces between routers

Folk, I recently added some new routers and then moved interfaces from the old to the new. The transit and peering graphs picked up the new interfaces just fine, but the Traffic Comparison widget on the front page hasn’t. Any ideas on getting it to update? Observium pro 20.3.10324 (stable). I’ve tried deleting and re-adding the widget, and it’s had a discovery run since the change. Thanks, -Darrell

Alerting switch stack status

I want to alert whenever one switch in a stack drops out. And I need help composing a checker. Specifically, I have stacks of cisco 2960-X switches linked via flex stack modules such that they appear as a single switch for purposes of ping'ing or snmp. On occasion, one switch in the stack will fail, but the rest of the stack stays on-line and continues to respond to pings, etc. I believe I want to watch the Status entity: Stack is redundant CISCO-STACKWISE-MIB::cswRingRedundant.0 https://mibs.observium.org/mib/CISCO-STACKWISE-MIB/#cswRingRedundant Each stacking module has two cables and one runs cables such that all the switches are in a big loop. cswRingRedundant is a boolean that indicates that such a loop is intact. So it will be False if a switch dies or simply if a cable is unplugged (also a desirable alert). Port group and aggregated graphs

Hi I added a port group to be able to have an aggregated graph but the graph does not seems to aggregate the ports usage in one graph. See the attached pictures as reference. Site1 have 137Mbit in and 160Mbit out and a spike at over 200Mbit Site2 have 38Mbit in and 80 out and a spike at over 140Mbit The aggregated graph does not show much more than a bit over 100Mbit both in and out in total and with the spike it should show around 340Mbit What has caused this irregularity to happen and should it be like this? ---- Regards Daniel

This does exist, go to <your_url>/map.php Its use varies greatly on the number of devices you have. It uses `dot` from `graphviz` which you must have installed and configured in config.php ($config['dot']) Also each port shows LLDP neighbors if you go to /neighbors/, and there should be a sub-tab of an interface called 'Map' to show you 1 level of connections. Dynamic Network Map

Hello, This is a feature we would find very useful, a dynamic network map that can be confined to a defined group of switches (e.g. from LibreNMS https://docs.librenms.org/Extensions/Network-Map/ ). Is this something Observium can already do? Or something that could be added? We are currently using Observium Enterprise (20.2.10291) and have zero interest in also running LibreNMS (or anything else) but this is feature we would really appreciate. The use case we are trying to address is the new on boarding of campus networks previously run by local IT that now fall under our remit (often with little or very poor or just wrong documentation). SVN Updates don't appear to be working

Hi, Some weeks ago I updated successfully to v10304, but since then any time since that when I do an "svn update", it says successfully updated, but no files are downloaded and the version shown on the webpage remains at v10304. I understood that the daily updates were copied to the Stable Branch weekly, but this doesn't appear to be the case currently??? I'm interested in getting a fix that was made in v10306, but can't get it and when I looked at changing our SVN update source to the daily update branch, Adam advised against this. I hope someone else will find this useful, but my question is thresholds, can you set that up somewhere? Like 0-750, and is it possible to do an alert is we have a Value over 500? I was able to get this working and it is a really great tip Btw, Josh, I used .29.0 for L2L tunnels and am getting the right numbers… I used http://www.mibdepot.com/cgi-bin/getmib3.cgi?i=1&n=CISCO-REMOTE-ACCESS-MONIT… to research. I think .26 is all IPSEC connections, that would include client to site IPSEC as well as site to site. Creating check on sensors which only have measured up state

Hi Observium Community, Hopefully someone can help me here. I'm using Observium Professional Edition. I'm struggling creating a check on sensors of type dBm which only has measured up state. When i go to Health -> dBm i see al my ports power levels. I can filter there on sensor event "critical". Then i'm getting a nice overview of ports which are below threshold. But most of these ports are down. So many of them are false positives and i'm not interested in them. Then we have the option "Measured State". Over there i can select "Measured Up" and then i'm getting the exact list i want. So i would like to create a check based on this. But when creating a check and assigning associations i'm not able to match based on the "Measured UP" state. In the groups section i'm also having this limitation. Dashboard Graph Start Date Weird

I have a weird problem with graphs that are on the dashboard show correct data but if I click on one the date start is 1969-12-30 but if I choose the device from the device menus and go to the same graph the start date is correct for 24 hours. I have check the date and time on the server and it is also correct I recreated the dashboard graphs from scratch and it still does it. Datasource maximum not updating

We discovered some RRD’s for LACP bundles had not updated the DS Max value after an upgrade. So this meant when we exceeded the previous DS Max value, we started getting “gaps” (NaN values) in the graph. I had to manually go in and “tune” the RRD to have a more appropriate DS Max value. Is this something that Observium is maintaining? If so, what would trigger this to happen? In the graph below the LACP Bundle was a 10G LAG, then upgraded to a 20G LAG. Unix agent alerting on Postfix mail queue size

Hi Adam, Tom! We are currently facing the problem of having to alert on Postfix mail queue size coming from the Unix agent (thanks to "careful" users who let their e-mail passwords repeatedly stolen). As I've been trying to read about this in the archives, I see that this is a somewhat frequently upcoming but still unresolved topic. May I ask about the current status of this request?! Supress Sensor Updated in Eventlog

Hi all, is there any method to supress the generation of "Sensor updated"-Eventlog entries if Observium is dynamicly changing the limit_low/high value? Our eventlog contains shitloads of entries for this kind of logs and they are not really useful from my opinion. So we would like to keep the sensors quiet. creating custom probe

Hi, I wanted to create a custom probe to read two values from Cisco devices which aren't available via their SNMP agents. How do i get my probe included and What to i need to present the two values (current value, max value) in a graph and trigger an alert when the current value reaches 90% of the max value? Hi I set the following Device Match / Entity Match: (device.type in server AND (mempool.mempool_descr notmatch *cache* OR mempool.mempool_descr notmatch *Virtual*)) However, the alert is still displayed (which is true since the virtual memory of one of our VMs is stil labove 80%). How can i reset the alert to test that the condition now works as expected? I installed smokeping, generated the targets file with the script and smokeping is running and updating the rrd's. I set the smokeping directory in the gui but i do not get the smokeping tab on the devices. Is there anything else to do? I'm not seeing something wrong - how do i troubleshoot/identify why the smokeping tab doesn't appear? thanks

Aha, I see what it’s doing. You missed out the actual query, which makes it more obvious what’s happening /graph.php?type=customer_bits&id=herp,derp&debug=1 Generates: SELECT * FROM `ports` AS I, `devices` AS D WHERE `port_descr_type` = 'cust' AND `port_descr_descr` = 'herp','derp' AND D.device_id = I.device_id We have a bit of code in the URL parser that expands any argument with a comma into an array of arguments, it’s used when you put in a list of port_ids for example. It’s expanding this here, and we’re passing an array of values to the SQL query builder. I’m not sure how much would need to be changed to suppress this behaviour in this instance, so I’d recommend just not putting commas in port descriptions! Thanks, Adam. Hi, We're currently using Observium v20.1.10233 and have a problem with "Error Drawing Graph" for all ports with a "Cust" prefix. Ports with "Core", "Peer" or "Transit" prefix correctly show graphs. The ports we're monitoring are VLANs, the Peer/Transit are simple 802.1q VLANs, the Core/Customer VLANs are QinQ, i.e. two layers of 802.1q headers. All port types are correctly detected by SNMP and listed against the Router. Given that "Core" displays graphs correctly, this doesn't seem to be related to QinQ, but specifically to the "Cust" prefix. I was facing the same issue, the rrd files are not generated for some routers for only ports. You can check if the rrd files are present under /opt/observium/rrd/<device_name>/port*.rrd I ran the poller explicitly and the rrd files were generated. You can try the same on that specific device, with the following command. sudo ./poller.php -h <device_id> -m ports -dd watch out for the snmpbulkwalk command that gets printed on the screen. only front page working

Hello, Recently installed the CE version on a local Debian box running nginx and I have having a bizarre issue. Only the front page loads, it loads fine. The moment I click on any link, whether it is a device or trying to go into Settings, it just throws a 404. I don't see any errors in nginx. I thought it might have something to do with the web_url & base_url, I have set that in the config.php but no luck. I'm sure it's something I have missed :/ Ross.

Even the other devices where the graphs are showing up have user as root and group as root. API strange issue

Port red file generation issue

Hi, I am new to observium. I have a strange issue ;for only one of the devices in the network. The port*.rrd files for this device is not getting generated in the /opt/observium/rrd path. The other rrd files are being generated for this device. Because of which the dashboard does not show any graphs for the ports on this device. I ran the poller script manually for this particular device and the ports*.rrd files got generated but after I exported the files to an XML I could see all values as NaN. Also these port rrd files are not getting updated at regular intervals like the other rrd files for the same device. How do I debug this? Help would be appreciated. Regards, Manish

Wikimedia Map Tiles not loading - Error 429

Hello! Among other things, we display the map in the dashboard. As it seems, the Wikimedia Tiles are shown by default, because we did not set anything else in the config.php file. Since a few weeks we have the problem that some tiles are not displayed anymore. In the Chrome Console you can see that the PNGs are not loaded due to an error code 429 (too many requests). It seems that Wikimedia has introduced a limit for some time now. Since many users have the dashboard permanently open, the same PNGs are very often loaded from our public IP. Is there a workaround for this problem? It is actually not necessary that the browser constantly reloads the PNGs, because nothing changes in the display. Unfortunately I did not find a list of possible alternative tile providers anywhere in the documentation. I only know the carto base dark and light. Unfortunately I don't find them optically ideal. Change severity on alarms

Hi I was wondering if there are any ways of creating other seventies than Critical when creating alarm checkers? For example I would like to have severity Informational and maybe some others. Also I would like to have the posibility to only send Critical events to all recievers of the alarms and Informational to the responsible group for specific alarms. Is this possible? If so how do I do it? If it's not possible now, can it be implemented? ---- Regards Daniel

OBS-2925 - Ping Only Hosts / OBS_SNMP_SKIP flag / snmp_skip attribute

For the benefit of anyone on the list who doesn't use JIRA... and also so that others who support (want/need) this feature can comment. https://jira.observium.org/browse/OBS-2925 Attached patch defines OBS_SNMP_SKIP flag and uses snmp_skip device attribute, similar to OBS_PING_SKIP and ping_skip, in order to have hosts that are ping only. Ping only hosts can still have the Observium Unix Agent installed (tested), and other poller modules such as IPMI enabled (untested). Tested: 1. Add/remove/rename ping only hosts via CLI 2. Add/remove ping only hosts via webUI 3. View/interact ping only hosts via webUI - SNMP specific features/menus etc are hidden while skip SNMP is enabled 4. Alerting - device_status equals 0 && device_status_type equals ping - will trigger alerts for host down/recovery events 5. Shifting a previously SNMP contactable host to ping only by ticking skip SNMP box - old SNMP graphs/etc are maintained and remain available - remove skip SNMP box and SNMP polling begins again Things I know kind of don't work right now: 1. Location override - poller/discovery doesn't seem to perform geocoding and whatever else is happening there Things that could be improved: 1. Unix Agent poller module etc is enabled by default for all hosts, for ping only hosts, perhaps it should be disabled by default? Will improve performance by reducing the number of processes that hang while the 10s default connect timeout happens. Totally untested: 1. Use of autodiscovery SNMP skip - should work in theory, unsure if those parts of the patch should actually be used though. Some people out there may actually want to add anything that does respond to ping and can be found thru adjacency and routing protocol info etc?? Blank space in graphs

Hello, on somes devices, i have a problem with blank space in my networking graph, i have this problem only with somes devices, others devices (same hardware and OS) work well. Please find attached examples. The devices are Cisco N3K-C3048TP-1GE running on NX-OS 6.0(2)U3(7) (uk9). On working device (with normal graph) all ports are 64bits, on devices with blank problem all ports are 32bits. Cleaning up Observium

Hello, I would like to cleanup observium, please see below that my largest directories are the logs (1.6 GB) and the rrd (17 GB). I tried cleaning up the logs by running ./housekeeping -sel BUT the size of the logs did not change - nonetheless, the devices with years of logs suddenly have days of logs (since I specified logs should be no older than 30 days). My concern is that I did the cleanup to reduce disk space, but immediately after I saw an increase in disk space, moreover, the space occupied in the log file directory did not change. Is it that observium housekeeping only targets space in the database, I ask because the query hanged for over 30 min doing nothing until I uses the -d (debug) flag and I noticed it was doing an sql query. How do I cleanup the logs directory? do I delete/truncate logs such as observium.log and access.log? What about the rrd directory, if I remove some of the rrds do I loose graphs (like record duration? Cisco 9300-24p in stack with 3 units not showing all info for stack member 2

Hi After setting up a new stack with 3 units of C9300-24p we only see the full inventory for switch 1 and switch 3 not switch 2. That means I can't see the fans or temp sensors for switch 2. Is this an observium parsing issue or an snmp issue in the switches? I attach a full picture of the inventory page. i also have a full snmpwalk dump from the switch if you need to have a look at it. I've changed the port and set starttls to true in the config file but I can't work out how/where to import the certificate? Feature Request - Interactive Graphs

Hello, I have been a user of Observium for quite some time and currently paid subscriber, I have always wanted to see interactive graphs to improve usability. What I am asking for specifically is the ability to: 1. Hover the mouse cursor over the graph and have it show pop-up boxes with info that show the current value for that vertex on the graph. 2. The ability to select a time window by clicking and dragging the cursor across the graph. This functionality is commonly seen on stock graphs such as finance.yahoo.com or finance.google.com where you can view values across the timeline and select time ranges by highlighting them on the graph with the mouse cursor. Is this a feature that can be added to Observium? Also, if this is not the appropriate method to issue feature requests please kindly direct me towards the proper method. Regards, -=JGR

Windows SNMP Timeout

Hello, Is anyone else having any issues with SNMP timeouts on windows servers? I´ve checked the servers to make sure the port is open and it is listening, but whenever I either do the poller or I manually do the snmpwalk I get a timeout. Same thing if I run the snmpwalk from another server. I do get a ping response so I know they can communicate. I have 3 Windows 2012R2 servers that are having this issue, not sure if maybe it was a recent windows update. TIA

Storage size changes

Hello, On our NAS devices, there are multiple entries where the storage size changes to 0 and then changes back to its original number. Is this something that can be changed? Or anybody know why it is doing that? I´m wondering if that is going to cause an issue if I enable an alert checker for disk size changes.

How to add support for status?

Hi I like to add support for lcsStatusVcCllMngrLinesEntry, in LCOS-MIB. But i can't find any doc on how to add it. Can some point me to where i can read about what i need? I have found some example, like what is done in "apc.inc.php", but it does not contain any description. Real Time port graphing not working when enabling SSL

When i enable HTTPS on Apache2 vhost then the Real Time port graph stays blank - when i revert to HTTP it's working again. Checked with the stable, rolling and CE version - same behavior on all of them. Do i need to set something extra or does anyone else have the same issue? Thanks, cody

Blanks in graphs

Hi I am facing blanks in my graphs. I fill like the polling time is taking longer than graphing time. Does anyone find a solution?? I mostly polling network devices? Kind Regards Theo
