We startet to use a SensorProbe2 Plus from AKCP but unfortunatly it is not yet supported by observium. Anybody out there who uses it too and has it implemented? If not, I'm looking for ways to integrate it but unfortunatly I cannot find the right files to do that. Where are the definitions that contain the mappings from sysObjectID to the right OS and MIBS?

1024 TB limit on disks when monitored over SNMP...?

Hello We just expanded a volume on a DDN GPFS system to over 1 PB. I monitor this volume via SNMP via a Windows server. Noticed that I run into a 1024TB cap on the size there though. Trying to understand where this cap is comping from, if it’s the SNMP on windows or something in observium. Anyone that’ve dealt with this? OS version mismatch in syslog emails

Hi all, I’m getting syslog emails from a particular router (Juniper MX) that reports an older OS version than what is installed. The observium web interface and other email alerts show the correct version as does ’show version’ on the box itself. I’d like to determine if the router is sending bad info or if Observium is reporting old data in this one instance for some reason. Hi Adam After upgrading to 18.10.9550 from observium 18.10.9519 we noticed that our map on the landing page stopped working and that rrd graphs stopped updating. We also notice that smokeping rrd graphs was still working, Downgrading to 18.10.9542 fixed the map on the landing page but not the rrd graphs. BGP Prefix Count Graphs

Hi, It's only occasional that we use these particular graphs, so I can't say when it stopped working unfortunately :( As far as I can see, every 'Prefix Count' graphs is broken / non-existent for every platform we have (IOS + IOS-XR). <server>/routing/protocol=bgp/view=graphs/graph=prefixes_ipv4unicast/ [cid:image002.png@01D4751F.0680B040] However, all the 'Update Counters' graphs are OK, for exactly the same neighbours: [cid:image004.jpg@01D4751F.0680B040] A quick check of the RRDs in the device folders shows that anything starting with "cbgp-" appears to contain the neighbour and address-family, rather than a 'numeric' name: [cid:image007.png@01D4751E.6EAFF140] So maybe it should be looking at those? Rather than cbgp-3176.rrd for example? We have recently completed a round of IOS-XR upgrades so I'm not entirely confident this is caused by an issue on the Observium side to be honest! I'm building a new box to replace my ancient Observium server. I'm most comfortable with CentOS, but most of the help docs I've seen appear to be geared toward Ubuntu. Is there a great reason to go Ubuntu over CentOS? Or is there another distro that is better for Observium? I stayed away from Ubuntu because I didn't care for the GUI, but I realized I have probably spent less than a hour per year in the GUI of that machine.

Hello, We trying to get information's about the Inventory from Observium. Mainly we trying to get the Serial Number and the Model Number from observium. This works well for a single switch. But it is not working if we have a stacked switch. In this case we get only the serial number of the stack-master. Is there a way to get all the information's that are listed on the inventory via API? Sensor issues since approx November 1st

Hi There I’m running a test bed of observium at home seperately of our main installation - i had previously written a very basic observium agent module that polls current power usage for a home monitoring sensor and outputs it, and then a custom polling module that reads this data and basically graphs it as a power sensor under a device (https://gist.github.com/anthonysomerset/3860b7a3b650d8bbbf53faac2d5eeab5 <https://gist.github.com/anthonysomerset/3860b7a3b650d8bbbf53faac2d5eeab5>) the unix-agent is working same as before but since i updated overnight on 1st november the graph has disappeared and my event log is filled up with sensor added events: also under the device itself the sensor is saying deleted around 5 days ago (2018-10-27 00:01:04) this looks like immediately after it updated on that day (looks like last commit on that day was 9517) any thoughts on how i need to fix? Observium Syslog issues

I have an installation of Observium that has been up and running perfectly for about 18 months. Last Friday I ran updates and now syslog is no longer working. I have found that prior to the upgrade, rsyslog was version 7, now I am at Version 8. In searching I found that a few configuration file changes, I did those, and still a no go. Has anyone else come across this? I am a novice at Linux, and totally at a loss here. I can do a tcpdump and sure enough the syslog messages are hitting the server, but not displayed within Observium. Any help would be appreciated, but, please keep in mind I am a Centos novice. Thanks all. Yes, it's a new set up and a lot of new devices were added about 4 weeks ago. An update here. We just have the number of Cores increased from 4 to 16, and looks like there has been improvement in terms of performance now. But there is a new issue observed. Quite frequently (~1 out of 4 times), Observium is responding HTTP response code 500 with blank page when logging in, or when clicking around after login. Any thoughts or suggestions on this? DB and Polling issues after upgrading to r9505

We had many devices not set to the correct location due to https://jira.observium.org/browse/OBS-2767 Updated to r9505 and after doing so we reset the geo location via web interface (device properties -> Geolocation -> Reset GEO location) On any device that this was done to it seems like they do not exist to the poller any longer, none have been polled since the above action was taken. Noticed that most of my port groups had 0 ports in them. Looking at the port description they had changed deviceA 1/1/3<http://172.24.41.34/device/device=31/tab=port/port=5230/> \AKRA-3 No1\ instead of AKRA-3 No1 this of course means that all my port groups are not matching the criteria. br., SH

Redundancy Mode (C2900)

Hi, We've had a few customer devices generate alerts overnight for 'Operational Redundancy Mode' = nonRedundant Example below: It appears to be a newly detected element during a discovery run - but in all (of our) scenarios it is now in alarm as the customers do not have them operating in redundancy mode. As far as I can tell it's not configured at all on them. Obviously I can filter them out from the alert ("Customer - Status Alert") but it would be nice if I could hide them from the main pages (or stop it from being polled at all). Alternatively, does anyone know what element in our device config may be triggering this to show up, so that I can modify the configs to remove it? Thanks! Distinct alerting when several custom OID on the same device

Hello, I've finally succeed to create alerting on custom OID Unfortunately, I'm now facing another issue I've one device with 2 custom OIDs * The device called "depanne" have 2 custom OID named "mailnotsent" and "checkdbconnection" I 've created one alert with this basic condition Currently if one of the 2 OID got a different value than 0, I receive the alert message "checkdbconnections fails" which correspond to the message I've defined It's OK when "checkdbconnections" fails but not when "mailnotsent' fails In other words, if the OID value for "mailnotsent" is not 0, I'm receiving a non-related message. I would like to create one alert related to one OID As checker condition for a custom OID I can only use a metric and the only available metric is the OID value. I know I cannot filter on the condition So I'm trying to filter thanks to the "association" In the previous version (which is still the documented one) it was possible to specify a device and an entity But as the current version no longer propose us a free field for this, I've tried to filter with several solution like this one It unfortunately doesn't work. Stormshield firewalls log

Hello all, we've several Stormshield firewall (FreeBSD-based) to monitor with Observium; most of them send their syslog properly, but with three of them, the syslogs are correctly received on observium server (seen with tcpdump), but not displayed within the respective entries. The hostnames does match the ones used with the device names. The Syslog setup allows unknown host. The syslog messages filters doesn't match any possible string in the incoming logs on mentioned devices. By enabling syslog debug, the observium log writes the correspondent files successfully. RANCiD version labels

Just finished adding RANCiD configs to observium and it's quite slick. Thanks for doing that. When displaying config versions, observium uses the git'ish 7-char truncations of the full hash to label those versions. While the time stamps are viewable when hovering the mouse over those links, most of my network team are non-coders and are put off by hex strings (never heard of git). n00b question: Implementing a new application but I get no graphs (rrd files)

Hi, I am trying to develop a new application (monroe) by following the instructions here: https://docs.observium.org/developing/add_app/ and are probably doing something stupid but I cannot see where the problem is. In my, updated and working, installation of observium I cannot find the file "includes/definitions/rrdtypes.inc.php" referenced above (I have searched the entire folder tree but with no luck). All the default applications work (ie vmwaretools) so as a "alternative approach" I tried to copy the code of the vmwaretools application and also search for where the vmwaretools have its definition but no luck. My application show up in the WEB UI and the agent works but I get no graphs. When I run ./poller.php manually I get : <snip> ##### Module Start: applications ##### o Applications ioping ...monroe .Cannot create RRD for type monroe - not found in definitions! nginx . nginx statistics vmwaretools . o Module time 0.0247s <snip> So it is missing the definitions but where do I add those ??? Use ifName instead of IfDescr

Hi All Im trying to find out if its possible to use IfName instead of ifDescr? TP-Link TL-SG3109 switch For some DUMB reason, all the ifDescr are being discovered as ‘Ethernet Interface’ ifDescr.1 = Ethernet Interface ifDescr.2 = Ethernet Interface ifDescr.3 = Ethernet Interface ifDescr.4 = Ethernet Interface ifDescr.5 = Ethernet Interface ifDescr.6 = Ethernet Interface ifDescr.7 = Ethernet Interface ifDescr.8 = Ethernet Interface ifDescr.9 = Ethernet Interface So when you look down the list on Observium, I have 9 Ethernet Interface (not helpful) I can put descriptions on each port and they get discovered by observium and show underneath the Ethernet Interface (but still not very helpful) I have noticed however tho in the debug output of the poller, ifName are being found as the port numbers as listed on the web interface of the switch! ifName.1 = g1 ifName.2 = g2 ifName.3 = g3 ifName.4 = g4 ifName.5 = g5 ifName.6 = g6 ifName.7 = g7 ifName.8 = g8 ifName.9 = g9 So is it possible to switch them round? Hey Guys, I currently looking for a way to give an employee just "some" access to the system. The main goal is, that he can manage traffic bills but only can see an selected devices group. However, it seems like I'm to stupid for that :D When I create an normal user, I can assign an group to the user, but he just can look and don't edit bills. I also can’t add new devices. I thought it may have been a lack of disk space so today I have updated to the current subscription version, ran the housekeeping script and cleared out as much off the machine as I can but there has been no change. My RRD directory is only about 5 G and I have around 4G free on that drive so it is not obvious to me that there is a lack of available space. I’ve been having trouble with the firewall config on that host so I also disabled the firewall in case it was blocking traffic. I can ping all the devices I am monitoring from this host and I have another SNMP tool monitoring some of the same devices successfully. So I am pretty certain it is the Observium host that is the location of the problem – I’m just not certain about what could be the problem… Below is the error I receive when I try to add a device I have checked the event logs but there are not even any entries in there to reflect that I have even tried to add a device let alone anything that will give me an indication as to what the problem is. Needless to say, after several hours trying to troubleshoot this I would really appreciate any feedback or direction! Hey Guys, This is a cosmic "issue" but an annoying one for us, I do understand that it won't effect a lot of people. We have systems in Fiji that we monitor and one of them happen to be at location: -16.84368611 -179.96583333 Most of the other systems are located "to the left" which happens to be across the 180 degree mark - or the line where -179.99999 and 179.99999 are next to each other. The problem is the map doesn't like to display this, since it displays either one, depending on where you are zoomed into. The "overview map" also shows the entire world, since the data is spread from 179 -> -179 Is there an easy way to fix this ? Thanks !

Install script for agent to run without /opt/observium

Hey Guys, Would it be possible to add the option do an agent only install to the install script? One that doesn't need /opt/observium and installs all the nice /usr/bin/distro etc utils :) The current script bails on : cp: cannot stat '/opt/observium/scripts/observium_agent_xinetd': No such file or directory Thanks !

Hi all, I've got some multi-WAN firewall checks from outside, and although Observium refuses an already existing SNMP SysName by adding a secondary WAN link, I've got one that has three WANs on the same firewall, without claiming anything. Does it exist a way to add an already existing SysName device, with a different name (and IP)? Thanks! Luca

Alerting on customer OID

Hello all Im after some help, I have created custom oid, and these are working and displaying info. I am trying to get the alerts to check the status of the oid. Ive added a custom oid checker Under association, I am selecting device, and the ip of the device. It then shows all the custom oid for the device. I have then tried by adding AND Custom OID numberical oid equals (The oid) [cid:image001.png@01D45723.A78685B0] But then it doesn’t list the custom oid, and shows no associations. Basically it is checking an SBC and if the status is 2, then its active, and if it shows 3 it is in standby. I want to create an alert that if the value changes from 2 to 3 it sends an alert. Hi All Im trying to find out if its possible to change the conversion rate being used in the CustomOID ? When I SNMPGET a value from our storage system its returning a value and observium is then doing the conversion wrong… This is the reply I received from there support team after hours of me trying to work out why observium was showing 416.5GB and they was showing 387.9GB The command you are using shows result in bytes. At the same time "vstorage stat" command shows result in Gibibites not Gigabytes. Hi, I was able to solve the problem by setting the file's permission. "Enable store RAW syslog lines into logs/debug.log file. Make sure that logs dir and debug.log file have write permission for your syslog server user. For example in Ubuntu rsyslog uses user syslog, add write permission for it: sudo chmod o+w ".$config['log_dir']."/debug.log"; Thanks. Custom math function on data of a custom OID

Observium unable to discover the device

Hi Team, I am trying to add a device ZNEQLP206. I have added Observium's IP and community string on the server's SNMP file. I can ping the observium server from the device I want to discover and also on the reverse way. Tracking Interface Flaps in JunOS via ifJnxCarrierTrans (Carrier Transitions)

Hello Observium! We use the subscription edition of Observium, and are wondering if there is a way to track interface flaps over time and alert on them if they breach a certain threshold - similar to what is done with interface errors. JunOS does expose this data through ifJnxCarrierTrans, so tracking it would be feasible however I don't see any entity that currently captures this counter. Can anyone point us in the right direction for how to accomplish this, or is this something we could add as a feature request? Thanks for all the hard work guys, -bri

Clickatell SMS alerts

Hi, We are running observium professional edition v.18.9.9428. We want to activate SMS alerting using the Clickatell transport however I cannot find where to enter the Clickatell login and password credentials in observium. I can only enter the recipient phone number and the clickatell API key but no login and password for clicktell. thanks, Chris

Hi, What is the difference between ‘snmpbulkwalk’ and ‘snmpwalk’ ? I have an issue with a D-Link DGS-1100-24 and the ports of SNMP When I manually run the snmpbulkwalk that observium uses, it times out from getting the ifEntry details However if I run snmpwalk, it walks without any issues? Observium poller is becoming slow

Hi, The polling time for each device is becoming long when more and more devices added to Observium. From the poller debug output most of the time is spent on SQL update. For a network switch, each port will trigger a SQL update. Is it possible for Observium to poll all ports first, and then have a single SQL update statement covering all ports ? Any advice in enhancing the polling speed or database performance ? hello can you please support me with the following situation I have, I installed Obervium in a virtual machine with 8 Gb of RAM and 8 cores, which have an Intel Xeon processor E5-1620 v3 at 3.50 Ghz, hard drive of 200 GB, has installed a version of Ubuntu 16.04.5 with Observium version CE17.9.0 when it had 30 devices added works well in terms of graphics, but when we added more antennas in total 1085 at the time it has become slow and also the graphics shows incomplete of any element, cpu, memory, ports, etc, the devices aggregates are radios of ubiquiti and mikrotik, I attach the images where it shows the commented of the graphics graph a month from a port graph to 6 hours a port the same situation occurs with the graphics of memory, processor, memory or any ports of all devices Wilbert.

We have around 22 Eaton UPS devices currently monitored on Observium and I have been investigating today why about 25% of them refuse to return a syslocation. It seems that the devices just don't reliably return snmpget when multiple OID are queried at once, at least for these objects. Hrm, on all my tested TP-Link switches this feature improved polling speed. That why separate_walk feature for this os enabled. But such problems are certainly unacceptable, I will disable that for os. Observium site blank after logging in

I've acquired an Observium implementation, which worked perfectly fine a few months ago. Nothing that I know of has changed over the past few months. Now we can get to the login screen as usual. As soon as you enter your credentials and login, the very next screen is completely blank and nothing appears. We've rebooted the box several times. Today I upgraded to the latest release - 9431. I'm not very proficient working through Linux troubleshooting, which is was the base OS is. Has anyone else seen this issue and possibly how to troubleshoot/resolve it? bng_active_sessions not graphed anymore

Hi, can someone help me to debug the graphing of "bng_active_sessions"? Which module is responsible etc pp? I noticed that Observium stopped graphing it for every Cisco ASR device for already 2 weeks. Based on our logfiles there was no update at that time. Add UPS-MIB to Mikrotik discovery

Devices not being discovered

Hi all, I've been running the CE version of Observium for a few years now, always upgrading as the new releases come out. Earlier this year my server hosting Observium updated to Ubuntu 18.04 and php7x. As previously raised on list, this was incompatible with the previous CE version. No problem, I waited it out. Now my issue. Since upgrading to the latest CE version, 5 out of my 7 devices (home network) are no longer being discovered. I can confirm DNS is working. I've debugged as much as I can, including reinstalling snmpd on the Ubuntu boxes. The devices which are staying down are my Ubuntu boxes and Unifi AP and Secure gateway. Any direction on debugging would be greatly appreciated. -- Regards, Roland
