Logging changes to Observium

Is there a way to log who is doing what whithin Observium? I would like to be able to tell who is adding or deleting devices, making changes to the config, or making any changes to Observium for that matter. I am not able (allowed) to lock down the config by making changes in the config.php. I have to keep the configs open to be changed by anyone on the team. This is truthfully a null point as the admin and root passwords are mandated to be stored in our team password vault anyway. I'd like a way to make others accountable for their actions. Thanks, Josh

Add ap9606 using powernet-mib

Hi All Im trying to work out how to add power information to observium (manually as it doesnt seem to be picked up) I currently monitor a ap9212 power switch (network card is a ap9606) but it only gives me lan stats and no power information I found if I added the powernet-mib to my mid browser and then did a walk on the apc private oid .1.3.6.1.4.1.318 it revealed all sorts of information which is very useful! I can provide read access to the device if need be I would be so happy if we can get power statuses off these tho :D Regards Simon - Hestor Ltd

Posted this earlier today in Jira as an Improvement but got to thinking I should have first emailed here... ***************** Am an MSP / MSSP that's new to Observium... See from the Device drop down the ability to Connect Via Telnet / SSH / etc to some of my devices (eg Vmware) but don't see this option for my (SonicWALL) firewalls. Would very much like to have the ability to manually configure a device-specific Connect Via link. For example... https://1.2.3.4 https://1.2.3.4:4443 I've looked through several of the MySQL tables where I thought I might find this info but couldn't find anything. Am I just missing it or is this not an option today? -- Randy Schultz

Hello all, First of all, i would like to tanks all people that made this great tool ! :) I'm still preparaing the migration from our old tool to Observium. So, i am playing/testing it with some Cisco devices. A strange thing that i observed is that the FDB tables show mac addresses on switch interfaces that are in trunk mode only (dot1Q flagged). MAC accounting problem

I have MAC accounting enabled on our BGP router trying to see what the usage is of our transit provider is over our peering link. They send me a graph for the week that looks like this. My graph on Observium looks like this. Any adjustments that I can make to fix this? Thanks in advance. P.S. Migrating to a new server

We just purchased an upgraded server in which to host Observium on and I would like to know the “best” way to migrate over all of our monitored devices. I’m not concerned with any of the graphed data being migrated, or any of the old Observium config. I only want to do a mass export of all of the devices and their properties. Will a dump of the ‘devices’ and ‘devices_locations’ tables suffice? Are there other tables/directories/configs I need to be concerned about? Hi, I can't say for Axis bit definitely success with Hikvision to a point. Observium does scan poll add the camera. If needing to be remote monitored from an external network over WAN there are many different ways of doing it. One way could be to use an ipsec vpn tunnel with gre then use a routing protocol like ospf . Then you could use acls as to what gets to the monitoring system etc... Down Ports - Device Reboots

When I first discovered and polled these particular switches (cisco and edgeswitch) the Ports that were down were not showing up on the device_status_boxes. Which is what I expected. But today the equipment at that site was power cycled when we switched over to generator backup while the electricians hooked up the new auto switch over equipment for the new permanent backup generator. Since then device_status_boxes shows all the down ports and that the devices rebooted. So they will not go away. Other software I used in the past had a mechanism to acknowledge them and they would go away. My question is we would like to setup an Alert for all Error and Critical level events, but seems you can only do regex expressions on the syslog text message. Hello, I recently ran into a kind of inconvenient behaviour with Observium alerting devices as offline when SNMP on Proxmox nodes gets unresponsive. I already created an alert checker including the condition ‘device_status_type match ping’ which is way more reliable for me in such case. Is there a possibility to disable devices shown as offline in ‘Status Warning and Notifications’ on the frontpage when device_status is offline due to SNMP not responding? Kind Regards, N.

As a (very) keen user of HAProxy, is it on the roadmap to be an application Observium can monitor? The stats are quite easily gained through something like HAProxyctl or socat interface. Location changes

Hello all, I'm currently testing the PRO version before deploying it in production in our environment. I will have arround 1500 devices, on which i only have SNMP access. This mean i can't set the location correctly on the SNMP agent BUT, thanks the this great tool, i can set it manually in order to group my devices by locations (arround 250). I'm going to integrate all the devices via a script, but i need to adjust the location for each of them. Is there is a difference by changing the location via the web gui VS changing it on the field 'location' on the 'devices_locations' mysql table ? Thanks in advance for your help. Rds, Tarik.

Graphs not showing most recent data when refreshing

Hi, I have set Refresh pages to 1 minute and web pages are visibly refreshing, however, they do not show the latest data. The refresh just displays the same data between the "Data presets" value. It doesn't make sense to me: having a refresh but only showing the same data. The same problem is occuring for the Event Log display. I have checked around to see if I should be using a different value for Data Presets but they are all just for a particular time period. There is nothing for "Latest 6 hours" or some such this. In an older version of Observium it worked fine. Graphs always refresh to show the latest data. It is only now that I have installed a new version (a fresh install not an upgrade) that this problem has appeared. Many thanks for your help in advance. Version information is below. Unifi showing 2 physical memorys?

Hi All Im just wondering if anybody else has noticed that UniFi APs have suddenly started to show 2 Physical Memorys? Im not sure if its a new firmware issue on the UAPs or something changed in the SNMP on observium? Both values seem to be different and I’m guessing its ment to be Physical Memory and Swap Memory But its showing in the panel as Physical Memory and Physical Memory? Hi, The bytes/s disk io graphs for Solaris 10 machines are all blank. The iops graphs work. All graphs work for Linux (Debian) machines. Configuring email alerts not to send if top level device is down.

Is there a way to configure email alerts to only send out emails about a device being down if the top level device is still up. For example we have multiple remote locations across the state, and if the router at the site goes down we don't need the other 50 emails alerts about all devices behind the router. We need some way to introduce a hierarchy to the alerting. Hope this makes sense.. Awesome product by the way. I really like it! Thanks. Distributed Observium

It seems that Observium doesn't support a distributed monitoring architecture, e.g. mapping remote proxies to access entire remote networks remotely, from a central management (e.g. like Zabbix, NetXMS, OMD etc.). Class Map Names disappearing

Hi, I have configured class-maps on a cisco router. They are working fine ( policy and server maps also configured and work ). In the CBQoS display for the interface it shows traffic divided up into each class very nicely. To begin with it entitled each set of graphs with the class map's name. Now that has gone. Is there a fix for this? Another a related question, if I update the class maps the results are not shown in the CBQoS display. Do I need to do a rediscover or some such thing? I have been deleting and adding the device back in but that causes all the historical data to be lost. Help very much appreciated. Greetings folks, I've setup some alert checkers, one of them is from the example site and is for the memory usage greater than 85%. My issue is, I'm monitoring VM's within ESX and all of the VM's alert. billing on power use?

Is it possible to add billing on power usage for PDUs? Could be 95th based or just an average for the monthly time period. Would need to sum a group of devices, each with several phases of power, the “Power” in kW. ServerCheck Expansion Module Problem

Hello, I am having a problem with my ServerCheck Gateway when I use their expansion module. The problem is when I have a sensor (I am using temperature) plugged into the expansion it does not get discovered. I did some digging with my very limited knowledge of PHP and it looks like the serverscheck.inc.php file only references the sensor that you would plug into the gateway .1.3.6.1.4.1.17095.3. But, when you plug a sensor into the expansion module it polls at .1.3.6.1.4.1.17095.11.0. Now I can edit the php and add these value locations to the array at the top and now the values for the sensor plugged into the expansion module appear. But, their descriptions do not show. I have tried everything I know but my very limited knowledge of PHP is hurting me. To make this even more difficult the value it uses to poll the description is sensor1name for the sensors that plug into a gateway. But, for the expansion, the description value is sensor1Name with a capital "N". When the customers start using EU OpsGenie, they will not be able to use the integration. SNMP Traps

Hi, Does Observium provide a mechanism for receiving SNMP Traps from devices for error conditions and then translating those Traps into email notifications? We have a number of power monitors in our environment that do not support snmpget or snmpwalk so Observium cannot poll them for data. The power monitors do support sending Traps when the Power (Amps) being consumed crosses above or below a certain threshold. I looked over docs.observium.org and the FAQ and didn't see anything regarding this. Thanks Gerry

We are able to generate email notifications from Alert Checkers for the same contacts, and we are able to generate Syslog Alerts on Observium from the Syslog Rules but the associated Contacts do not receive email notifications for those Syslog Alerts. Essentially everything works except for the last step 'Generating Notifications' following the documentation: http://docs.observium.org/alerting_syslog/ We've run a Rebuild via the Web UI, have re-created the Syslog Rules and Contacts and have been through the global configuration but can't find anything obvious. Has anyone come across this problem before, or have any ideas on what would be the next step? IPA SLA status is correctly reported from our core VSS switch but does not appear from ASA devices. Does anyone else see IP SLA reported from Cisco ASA firewalls? (Tried 9.7 and 9.8(2) software versions). On the subject of Cisco ASA, does anyone have HA failover correctly alerting? I've tried to implement an alert but not quite mastered the technique. If you not have local (uncommited) changes for support some your own devices, just ignore this mail. For you nothing has changed :) If you have changes in this definition, please move it into appropriate definition file, where filename based on mib_dir (<mib_dir>.inc.php), ie for cisco: includes/definitions/mibs/cisco.inc.php Old definition content in mibs.inc.php is still left, for prevent update conflicts. Hello, we use device groups combined with user permissions to give various teams specific views of the estate, grouped by different sets of infrastructure - i.e. some users are allowed to see more than one group. Hi everyone! I've got a small (is it?!) feature request: A toggle switch "Intermittent" or "Intermittently connected" for every device to be able to select it to indicate the alerting system that it is normal for this device to go away and come back frequently, no need to issue alarms for this, but any other alarm should be run as usual. The rationale for this is we have lots of user devices (PC's, printers, what-else), these are switched on-off at users will so Observium shouldn't alert us about that (maybe the usual grey marking on the name as for ignore) but there are some parameters that are important to monitor (like hard disk usage, toner level) and which should have their alarms working. This way the currently available option "Device ignore" will not work, as it will disable the alarms altogether. Is this sane/easy enough to be included sometimes in the future? Guys, any plans to do similar to LibreNMS of exporting stats to Grafana for nice graphs? Hi, Does anyone know why my Observium stop generating graphics, what i think first was a trouble with the connection or the network, but them i add the Observium Server to the devices and it happens the same. Hi everyone! I recently stumbled upon a blog post <http://geekness.be/observium-unix-agent-and-smart-attributes/> about making the Unix Agent deliver disk SMART values as well. The only problem is the post is from 2014 and as I saw there has been quite some changes in Observium since that time. Is there anyone who managed to make this (or any other) solution to work? Is there some plan to integrate SMART monitoring into Observium? Regards, Tylla Ps: If I remember correctly there was some discussion about this a few years back but there wasn't any final result.

Hi everyone, when I am troubleshooting I often take a look at the port graphs. If I find an irregularity and want to take a closer look at it I have to fiddle around with the From and To Fields until I have the right time window. Therefore I would really like the graphs in observium to be zoomable. Log full of Interface Speed change messages for Fortigate 600D cluster

The event log for our FGT600D is full of many thousands of messages like below. All the same speeds etc but for each port over and over. I have several FGT60E's as well on the same level of OS but they do not have the same events. The 600D is in a A/P cluster. Not sure what I need to do to prevent the messages? Any suggestions? Device randomly now taking longer to poll

Hi All Im trying to work out why 1 of our switches has all of a sudden decided to now take 28s to poll, even tho using it for months its only taken 9s? From the 'tab=perf' of the device, its showing ‘ports’,’fdb-table’,’netstats’,’ospf’ are showng as really high, 9sec each really? I have restarted the equipment incase it was maybe that, same issue Ive upgraded to the latest firmware too but still the same issue? Any other ideas where I can look? Cannot login. can this be license related?

Hello Noticed yesterday that I had issues logging in to observium and the issues have continued. I don't get any error it just reloads the page and asks for user/pass, no "wrong password", "unknown user" nor "license error". I have looked in all logs I can think of but I cannot find a trace of what could be causing this. I have some sort of memory that there was some oddness when you renew your license. I can run 'svn update' though and if it was license related I don't think that works, right? Tried update AFTER I realised I cannot login, so not related to update. Nothing have changed in the environment or with the installation. Any pointers to where I should look for clues? Monitoring MPLS LSPs

Hello there. I've just started working on a new module to include support for MPLS LSPs. Since I only have access to Juniper hardware I'm only working exclusively with the MPLS-MIB but it should be fairly easy to support other MIBs (like Cisco's MPLS-TE mib) because the dataset is pretty much the same. I have the discovery and polling modules ready. If anyone with experience on the web interface wants to join me, please let me know. Luis

Alerts on custom OID

Hi, Trying to setup alerts on custom OID, my OID returns just a number and want to alert if it's above or below that. What do I use for the conditions? Im assuming fort the device associations I can reference by hostname or is there other OID/SNMP specific ones? I don't see this anywhere in the docs. So no clue what to put :) Thanks!

MIB support for UniFi APs and controller

Hello Id like to ask to add the support for UniFi APs (gen1 and 2 should be working, gen3 has issues as far as i know). Ubiquiti networks provide 2 MIBs which are attached. One is for the UniFi controller, one for all APs I saw that there is a feature request for the CE at [1], but as i read there hasn't been any real progress yet. If i can help somethin in this matter, please let me know (we have quite a bunch of gen1 and 2 APs, thats why i ask). Port Description parsing doesn't work for custom port desctiptions

HI, Ager setting up observium with distributed pollers we are no longer able to display stats for our custom defined ports, while Descriptions that are built work just fine ( Transit, Peering,Core ). For example in config.php we have the following. $config['int_groups'][] = "DCI"; Selecting DCI from Ports menu would display the following: [image: Inline image 1] I also noticed that port_descr_type column in ports table is not being populated resulting in description parsing not to work: [image: Inline image 2] Did anyone experience something similar ? HI All Im having a similar issue in relations to ports strangely enough? Its only started happened since last SVN update which was midday today [2018/01/11 21:57:18 +0000] poller.php(17372): Failed dbQuery (#1062 - Duplicate entry '30-4' for key 'device_ifIndex'), Query: INSERT INTO `ports` (`device_id`,`ifIndex`) VALUES ('30','4’) Observium 17.12.8997 (26th December 2017) OS Linux 4.4.0-109-generic [amd64] (Ubuntu 16.04) Apache 2.4.18 (Ubuntu) PHP 7.0.22-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 (OPcache: ENABLED) Python 2.7.12 MySQL 5.7.20-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 (extension: mysqli 5.0.12-dev) SNMP NET-SNMP 5.7.3 RRDtool 1.5.5 Any suggestions?
