Greetings folks, I've setup some alert checkers, one of them is from the example site and is for the memory usage greater than 85%. My issue is, I'm monitoring VM's within ESX and all of the VM's alert. [image: Inline image 1] If there is a way to remove the "Real Memory Metrics" from the alert that would fix my issue, does anyone know how to do this? Cheers, Steve

billing on power use?

Is it possible to add billing on power usage for PDUs? Could be 95th based or just an average for the monthly time period. Would need to sum a group of devices, each with several phases of power, the “Power” in kW. Guessing this is something that would need a bit of development, would it be something we could sponsor to move forward? -Darrell

MGE UPS Inverter Status indicator

Unable to add UPS via command line or web interface

Hello everyone, I am unable to add one of UPS to my observium. I have tried via using ./add_device.php command as well as using the web interface. Cambium ePMP radios

Hi Admittedly the SNMP implementation seems poor, probably because they have their own agent / management platform. However I can you access to radios that you could do SNMP walks on, etc or I can send you walks if needed. Would adding support of Cambium equipment be considered? Regards Lyndon

Hello, In the BGP-View of Observium, we are missing the AS-Name resolution. In earlier revisions the name of the AS was visible and searchable. This was a very convenient thing. ServerCheck Expansion Module Problem

Hello, I am having a problem with my ServerCheck Gateway when I use their expansion module. The problem is when I have a sensor (I am using temperature) plugged into the expansion it does not get discovered. I did some digging with my very limited knowledge of PHP and it looks like the serverscheck.inc.php file only references the sensor that you would plug into the gateway .1.3.6.1.4.1.17095.3. But, when you plug a sensor into the expansion module it polls at .1.3.6.1.4.1.17095.11.0. Now I can edit the php and add these value locations to the array at the top and now the values for the sensor plugged into the expansion module appear. But, their descriptions do not show. I have tried everything I know but my very limited knowledge of PHP is hurting me. To make this even more difficult the value it uses to poll the description is sensor1name for the sensors that plug into a gateway. But, for the expansion, the description value is sensor1Name with a capital "N". When the customers start using EU OpsGenie, they will not be able to use the integration. When an OpsGenie integration is being configured, Observium sends an HTTP request to https://api.opsgenie.com/v1/json/observiumv2?apiKey=$apikey <https://api.opsgenie.com/v1/json/observiumv2?apiKey=$apikey>, but our OpsGenie EU instance will use another endpoint which is https://api.euopsgenie.com/v1/json/observiumv2?apiKey=$apikey <https://api.euopsgenie.com/v1/json/observiumv2?apiKey=$apikey>observiumv2 <https://api.opsgenie.com/v1/json/monitis?apiKey=$apikey>?apiKey=$apikey. SNMP Traps

Hi, Does Observium provide a mechanism for receiving SNMP Traps from devices for error conditions and then translating those Traps into email notifications? We have a number of power monitors in our environment that do not support snmpget or snmpwalk so Observium cannot poll them for data. The power monitors do support sending Traps when the Power (Amps) being consumed crosses above or below a certain threshold. I looked over docs.observium.org and the FAQ and didn't see anything regarding this. Thanks Gerry

Observium - Unable to generate email notifications from Syslog Alerts

Hi All, Observium Professional 17.11.8960 (29th November 2017) OS: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 [amd64] (Debian 8.7) Apache: 2.4.10 (Debian) PHP: 5.6.30-0+deb8u1 (OPcache: ENABLED) Python: 2.7.9 MySQL: 5.5.54-0+deb8u1 (extension: mysqli 5.5.54) SNMP: NET-SNMP 5.7.2.1 RRDtool: 1.4.8 (rrdcached 1.4.8: unix:/var/run/rrdcached.sock) We are unable to generate email notifications from Syslog Alerts. We are able to generate email notifications from Alert Checkers for the same contacts, and we are able to generate Syslog Alerts on Observium from the Syslog Rules but the associated Contacts do not receive email notifications for those Syslog Alerts. Essentially everything works except for the last step 'Generating Notifications' following the documentation: http://docs.observium.org/alerting_syslog/ We've run a Rebuild via the Web UI, have re-created the Syslog Rules and Contacts and have been through the global configuration but can't find anything obvious. Has anyone come across this problem before, or have any ideas on what would be the next step? Cisco ASA IP SLA Reporting & HA Failover Alerting

IPA SLA status is correctly reported from our core VSS switch but does not appear from ASA devices. Does anyone else see IP SLA reported from Cisco ASA firewalls? (Tried 9.7 and 9.8(2) software versions). On the subject of Cisco ASA, does anyone have HA failover correctly alerting? I've tried to implement an alert but not quite mastered the technique. Hi Observiumians, today I split huge hard to maintain includes/definitions/mibs.inc.php file into multiple files in includes/definitions/mibs/ sub-dirrectory. If you not have local (uncommited) changes for support some your own devices, just ignore this mail. For you nothing has changed :) If you have changes in this definition, please move it into appropriate definition file, where filename based on mib_dir (<mib_dir>.inc.php), ie for cisco: includes/definitions/mibs/cisco.inc.php Old definition content in mibs.inc.php is still left, for prevent update conflicts. device groups and permissions

Hello, we use device groups combined with user permissions to give various teams specific views of the estate, grouped by different sets of infrastructure - i.e. some users are allowed to see more than one group. Hi everyone! I've got a small (is it?!) feature request: A toggle switch "Intermittent" or "Intermittently connected" for every device to be able to select it to indicate the alerting system that it is normal for this device to go away and come back frequently, no need to issue alarms for this, but any other alarm should be run as usual. The rationale for this is we have lots of user devices (PC's, printers, what-else), these are switched on-off at users will so Observium shouldn't alert us about that (maybe the usual grey marking on the name as for ignore) but there are some parameters that are important to monitor (like hard disk usage, toner level) and which should have their alarms working. This way the currently available option "Device ignore" will not work, as it will disable the alarms altogether. Is this sane/easy enough to be included sometimes in the future? Are there already plans for this? Regards, Tylla

Hard Disk SMART monitoring

The only problem is the post is from 2014 and as I saw there has been quite some changes in Observium since that time. Is there anyone who managed to make this (or any other) solution to work? If I find an irregularity and want to take a closer look at it I have to fiddle around with the From and To Fields until I have the right time window. Therefore I would really like the graphs in observium to be zoomable. Log full of Interface Speed change messages for Fortigate 600D cluster

The event log for our FGT600D is full of many thousands of messages like below. All the same speeds etc but for each port over and over. I have several FGT60E's as well on the same level of OS but they do not have the same events. The 600D is in a A/P cluster. Not sure what I need to do to prevent the messages? Any suggestions? Device randomly now taking longer to poll

Hi All Im trying to work out why 1 of our switches has all of a sudden decided to now take 28s to poll, even tho using it for months its only taken 9s? From the 'tab=perf' of the device, its showing ‘ports’,’fdb-table’,’netstats’,’ospf’ are showng as really high, 9sec each really? I have restarted the equipment incase it was maybe that, same issue Ive upgraded to the latest firmware too but still the same issue? Any other ideas where I can look? Cannot login. can this be license related?

Hello Noticed yesterday that I had issues logging in to observium and the issues have continued. I don't get any error it just reloads the page and asks for user/pass, no "wrong password", "unknown user" nor "license error". I have looked in all logs I can think of but I cannot find a trace of what could be causing this. I have some sort of memory that there was some oddness when you renew your license. I can run 'svn update' though and if it was license related I don't think that works, right? Tried update AFTER I realised I cannot login, so not related to update. Nothing have changed in the environment or with the installation. Any pointers to where I should look for clues? Hello there. I've just started working on a new module to include support for MPLS LSPs. Since I only have access to Juniper hardware I'm only working exclusively with the MPLS-MIB but it should be fairly easy to support other MIBs (like Cisco's MPLS-TE mib) because the dataset is pretty much the same. I have the discovery and polling modules ready. If anyone with experience on the web interface wants to join me, please let me know. Luis

Hi, Trying to setup alerts on custom OID, my OID returns just a number and want to alert if it's above or below that. What do I use for the conditions? Im assuming fort the device associations I can reference by hostname or is there other OID/SNMP specific ones? I don't see this anywhere in the docs. So no clue what to put :) Thanks!

MIB support for UniFi APs and controller

Hello Id like to ask to add the support for UniFi APs (gen1 and 2 should be working, gen3 has issues as far as i know). Ubiquiti networks provide 2 MIBs which are attached. One is for the UniFi controller, one for all APs I saw that there is a feature request for the CE at [1], but as i read there hasn't been any real progress yet. If i can help somethin in this matter, please let me know (we have quite a bunch of gen1 and 2 APs, thats why i ask). In the doc it says under Alert Settings - this is only applicable to subscription edition. Does that mean just the first item (alerter = true)? Port Description parsing doesn't work for custom port desctiptions

HI, Ager setting up observium with distributed pollers we are no longer able to display stats for our custom defined ports, while Descriptions that are built work just fine ( Transit, Peering,Core ). For example in config.php we have the following. $config['int_groups'][] = "DCI"; Selecting DCI from Ports menu would display the following: [image: Inline image 1] I also noticed that port_descr_type column in ports table is not being populated resulting in description parsing not to work: [image: Inline image 2] Did anyone experience something similar ? Hello, Recently we had a case when network infrastructure went down, and only after some time we fixed it. Observium noticed it and everything was OK. But in meantime of fixing it - Observium started to flood with alerts - this may be the correct case. But after we repaired the network - and everything was OK, we still had a flood of old errors and it continued about an hour or so. I tried to disable email alerts through config.php, supress all alerts through WEB interface - but nothing helped. So is there any manual way to stop the Alerting queue ? Thanks

Hello, We are currently running Pro r8993 with 650+ devices and will be adding another 400 or so shortly, to support this we will try a deployment as described in some detail by Markus: http://blog.best-practice.se/2017/10/scaling-observium-horizontally.html We do however also have another edge case to deal with in the form of an infrastructure that we cannot look into but can send out of, the inhibitor is political and not technical. We are halfway to solving it technically however by using a poller remotely with wildcard host name matching as the 'remote' stuff has a common domain part. Our other 'normal' pollers however need to be told to exclude or skip polling / discovery of the remote devices. Can a wildcard skip or exclude be added to the poller-wrapper script for this purpose? Missing EngineID

Hi all, I am a new user of observium and I am doing some tests with few devices before deploying it on a wider network. When I try to add my first device (with -d option), it only partially works. In the log I have only this error: CMD[/usr/bin/snmpget -v2c -c *** -Pu -OQv -m SNMP-FRAMEWORK-MIB -M /opt/observium/mibs/rfc:/opt/observium/mibs/net-snmp 'udp':'172.16.192.102':'161' snmpEngineID.0] CMD EXITCODE[0] CMD RUNTIME[0.0324s] CMD EXITDELAY[10ms] STDOUT[ No Such Object available on this agent at this OID ] SNMP STATUS[FALSE] SNMP ERROR[#1000 - Failed response] So, it seems I am not getting the EngineID object. Then at the end of the log I have this: SQL[INSERT INTO `devices` (`hostname`,`sysName`,`status`,`snmp_community`,`snmp_port`,`snmp_transport`,`snmp_version`,`os`,`snmpEngineID`,`location`,`sysContact`) VALUES ('172.16.192.102','Terlapini RB Sottotetto','1','public','161','udp','v2c','routeros','','Gussago','Elsy')] SQL RUNTIME[0.04079700s] Devices failed: 1. So, it seems that the script will try to add the device but with an empty EngineID field. The result is that the device is added (e.g. I can see it in the device when accessing e.g. via web interface, but when I click on it, it does not show up in the list with a reply that there are no devices matching the search criterias). I also noticed that if I try to add a second device with same EngineID problem, the SQL INSERT will fail with ' duplicate key' error. I have the impression that the EngineID is used as a unique key in the SQL DB and if it is empty this may cause problems. Am I right? In this case, I have to understand why I cannot get the EngineID from the device. Tnx Alberto

Graphing BIND with multiple views?

Hi all, I'm trying to graph BIND stats, which the normal method works well, but in this case the recursive-only server has multiple views configured and the stats returned by RNDC are broken into categories based on views. The Observium "Server Statistics" page looks accurate, but the Resolving and Queries page have almost data recorded (some data in "Errors" and "Incoming Queries" respectively, but not complete in either section). Professional SVN updates failing

LDAP/AD nested groups

Hello, we are running Observium Pro with the following and nested AD group enumeration does not seem to be working. [cid:image002.png@01D3856C.B5B0A050] We have it enabled in the config.php but only Users in the top level groups specified in the config['auth_ldap_group'] array show up, if put a group with users into one of the groups in config['auth_ldap_group'] then nothing. Enabled in config with twice the depth needed. $config['auth_ldap_recursive'] = TRUE; $config['auth_ldap_recursive_maxdepth'] = 6; Any suggestions would be useful. I don't believe there is an HSRP tracker. It's definitely not in the sensor entity type. Alerts on Aggregate values or sums?

Bit of an RFE here, would like to be able to alert on the aggregate value for a group, or do sums in the alert checker test field, unless I’m just missing how to do this? My particular use check is adding up the total power for a 3 phase PDU (and a group for the power panel), and alerting if the total watts or amps are greater than 80% of the circuit capacity. Total Power Output on my APC 3 phase PDUs doesn’t work for me here because it’s dependent on the power factor of the connected devices, and that isn’t readily available in observium. Even if it was, I’d still need math (division this time) on two values. Sums/aggregates seem like the easiest route for this task. Thanks, -Darrell

multi device graph for sensors?

Is there a way to get a summary (and sum) of a particular sensor? I’d like to have a one graph for all my PDUs with the apower attribute summed up for a total, see what the absolute # is. -Darrell

Alert chekers entites 'disapearing'

Hello, I've created alarm checker: os equals nxos hostname match *NET* ifType equals ethernetCsmacd ifAlias match *vPC Keep-alive link* And after a while i noticed that some entities where disapeared. The device was reachable and etc. I did a "rebuild' and they're reappeared again. What could be the cause ? NXOS ? :)

false positive NX-OS alert ?

HP J8992A Switch 6200yl-24G

We are using Observium to help support or local schools and we have a district that is using an HPJ8992A Switch 6200yl-24G, firmware K.15.16.0006. This switch is lacking many details in Observium the first and biggest one is the Port details. No Ports are showing on this switch.

LLDP huawei

But the LLDP will not shown in the port section. Is there a support for LLDP huawei switches in the pro-version of observium? NetFlow Recommendation

Afternoon All, We recently purchased Observium after a recommendation from our Network Engineer, what Netflow software would you recommend to use alongside Observium? If you know any Open Source ones, that'd be awesome. I came across Nfsen but it's a tad too old. Also I have Observium talking to 6 out of 8 of my routers and SNMP is turned on on all of them. If you require any info please let me know. There are 7 Cisco x 1 Juniper routers and the affected routers are Cisco. Multi year history

Hi everyone! I was wondering about whether there is a recommended/approved/tested/tolerated way or plan of creating multi-year history (RRD data)? To reformulate it, changing the day/week/month/year history into something like day/week/month/year/10years... It's not a show-stopper, but sometimes there is demand to show or analyze historical data for more than 1 year in the past. Regards, Tylla

[QUESTION] Alerting Different Group and Devices

Hi, i have a problem with the Alerts, in the first case i dont recieve the emails alerts, after the update my alerts never send to my email. But before the update the emails alerting work fine... But my principal problem is the alerting notifications via email or slack or sms to differents groups and devices... Ex: I have 3 clients this clients have 50 devices each one... I need send only the alerts related for each clients devices not for all devices. This is possible? Thx. BR Santiago

UNIX Agent graph history

Hi everyone! We are using the CE version (17.9.0) so ignore my e-mail if this is already solved in the Pro edition. We started to configure the UNIX agent on a few of our machines and we saw that all the pop-up graphs in the Apps overviews are only showing the last 24 hours. Is this on purpose? Isn't there some possibility to make these graphs show the usual way (day, week, month, year)? Regards, Tylla

Netonix MIB

We noticed in the changelog that Netonix MIB was added. We have a Netonix switch but it was discovered as a generic device. We looked at the MIB list but we do not see the Netonix MIB in the list.
