Hello there: Just built a new system w/ CE version 17.9 on Centos 7.2 . When I create/run the following Alert Check, it shows as 'OK' for my devices: processor_usage greater 90 * * When I go to a device and view graphs, it shows a device w/ 100% CPU utilization No errors in logs/db.log. Is my syntax incorrect? Thank you.

Alert on package update

A few machines auto update for Plesk and would be nice to be notified when they get updated I can see in observium in the Eventlog of the devices Package updated: plesk-php70-fpm (x86_64) from 7.0.23-centos6.17090111 to 7.0.24 Regards Simon

Bogus alerts since last CE update

Hi, on Sept 28th I updated one installation to the new CE release (17.9.0). Since then, Observium keeps sending me interface down/up alerts for every single port on every single switch and router, once every day between 11:20 am and 11:35 am (a bunch every 5 minutes). The alerts look like this: They serve to notify me if anyone connects or disconnects something in my absence. That worked well for a year or so, until I did this update. Now I get 114 emails every day at the same time. What could be the cause, and how can I solve that? Maik

Poller wrapper history stopped working

Multiple mailing options

Hi all, We have a scenario where we'd like, for certain alerts, to not only send via the default mail settings but also to forward to an external sms portal. This particular portal is fairly simple and works via sending an email to a certain domain with a phone number prefix. We'd need to use different mail settings for this purpose though and I was wondering if someone could think of the best way to do this. I can't really find many examples for the external script or web hook transport methods, and ideally we'd be able to do most of the configuration and filtering directly within observium rather than doing the messaging logic elsewhere. syslog not working after observium rsyslog server configuration

I have observium CE addition and i recently tried for syslog integration on it as given here http://docs.observium.org/syslog/ I am able to see syslog messages in observium UI but unfortunately my syslog messages of observium machine itself are not getting logged to /var/log/syslog . please some one help me here. Graphs not rendering correctly

Hi all, Seem to be having a problem with the graphs on my new install (CE). See the example below: As you can see there are regular gaps in the display. I am wondering if this might have something to do with a polling cycle etc? not sure where to start investigating so any suggestions are welcome. p2p radio detection

Howdy, We noticed not that long ago that Ubiquity devices gained p2p radio detection. Is there any consideration for Ubutiks (Ubiquity RF + Microtik routerboard)? We have a number of these and the device_state array contains the p2p radio info just like the Ubiquity radios do. Discovery put the ubutiks into the network category like a normal mikrotik. We’ve been changing them over by hand to wireless for categorization. Thanks, Joey

Hi there! I would like to request CARP-MIB and PF-MIB support in Observium. Most importantly show if the CARP interfaces are master or backup. So we can get alerted. Maybe show it in the same way as Cisco ASA Active/Passive or some other better suited as you can have an arbitrary amount of CARP interfaces. And then the ability to graph the statistics from PF-MIB. The MIBs for reference: https://github.com/openbsd/src/tree/master/share/snmp Not sure if this is a lot of work or not though, hope some of it is easy enough :) -- Tommy Nevtelen

Preferred MTA?

Hey all, I've been trying to get Observium to send alerts to my Exchange server. Wireshark on Exchange shows nothing so I just gave up, looked online and found a post from Adam saying to not use SMTP; he recommended using an MTA instead. Does Observium have a preferred MTA? Any to watch out for? After updating to 8852 my multi-customoid graphs are broken. Line graphs render but have no devices/data points and stacked graphs return the error image. Rolling back to 8851 shows expected behavior. Jesse

Issue with Search Function in BGP Sessions

Hello! I ran into a little issue today. If I am on page two of the BGP session list and search for a remote AS the search always comes up with an empty list. I guess this is caused by the "pageno=2" in the URL: http://x.x.x.x/routing/protocol=bgp/graph=NULL/view=details/pagination=1/pa…... CentOS 7.4?

Anyone upgrade their installation from CentOS7.3 to 7.4? I needed that upgrade on other systems due to some patches that wouldn't be released to 7.3. I've had no issues with 7.4, so I'm wondering if anyone has run into Observium related problems with 7.4? It only came out officially in the last few days, so it may be too early to ask.

Geolocation detection improvement

Hello We are constantly running into issues with the geolocation service and the automated detection of the coordinates – people tend to set additional information in the sysLocation which finally cause the geo api’s to fail. I would like to suggest a small format / code change here to make the geo location detection more usable and reliable. New error after update to latest SVN (stable branch)

Hi Observium List, We updated Observium to the latest svn stable branch today. I made sure we had ran the update, so it shows that everything is up to date, including the database. We found that we ran into a snag when adding new users to the system via the web interface. I was able to add the user via the adduser.php script, but it's missing some data. When I went to go edit it, it logged the same error. Here are the excerpts of the errors below, one for adding the user, and one for editing the user added via adduser.php. One more for the customOID topic

So I also upgraded to the latest and got the autodiscovery on custom OIDs. Didn't have the best effect on my system as it mapped hundreds of individual Isilon nodes to a long range of custom OIDs I had created. So lessons learned / feature requests : - Previously one could pick (one by one or multi select) the devices to be covered in a specific custom OID. THis option seems to have gone now. I'd like that option back, or alternatively be able to somehow filter or group devices. I also use the combined line or stack graphs for certain things and sometime need to show just a group of devices and not all. Right now with the new version I can only show either a single device or all devices as I cannot create custom OID groups and then narrow down what devices to show there. - On systems like Isilon where you may want to both have cluster wide data (so polling the cluster alias) but also monitor each node in the cluster, the lack of the above mentioned filtering/grouping is a problem as currently the custom OID will only work for me if I delete all individual nodes and only monitor the cluster alias. On the other hand, now Servertech Sentry4 devices are better supported, so the net outcome of the upgrade was still positive for me. /Jesper

Feature idea: custom graphs

Prior to the recent changes to Custom OIDs (r8738~r8741) we had been abusing the feature to create custom graphs containing multiple hosts. For example we had a graph of emails delivered that combined all of our email servers in one. Now with OID discovery added and manual association removed that graph goes from 20 hosts to 600 and is no longer very useful. I think moving some of the previous functionality of Custom OIDs into it's own Custom Graph feature would be very useful and welcome feedback on the idea. Hi All Is the is a way to delete a device from a Custom OIDs? I use a custom oid to display hotspot users logged in via mikrotiks at 2 sites, however I’ve just seen the OID page has had an update and is showing ALL(12) of our mikrotik devices? I only want to show 2 of our devices!? Regards Simon

Hi All Im not sure if its Observium or TP-Link I should be asking really but ill ask in both places? Observium told me, one of our switches rebooted (which seemed odd as nobody can gain physical access to it) I checked observium and that shows an uptime of 16h 20m 30s When I snmpwalk the switch I can see DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (5883922) 16:20:39.22 But the TP-Link web panel shows RunTime: 332 day - 2 hour - 2 min - 39 sec ??? Already I have had a bad experience with Eaton and switching to APC was much better. Front page graphs

Hi, I made a fresh install 2-3 week ago. I added mini graphs on the frontpage. It worked out for 2 weeks fine, but now the graph are incomplete. Like no data is received from the device which is an HP Procurve network switch. See image, between August 18 and 24 nothing on the graph. Blank Screen After Login

Hello, I’ve made a fresh install of Observium and during the initial setup I was using the mysql authentication type. After adding a few data sources (devices), I’ve switched to Radius authentication. In my config.php, I’ve added/changed these lines: $config['auth_mechanism'] = "radius"; $config['auth_radius_server'] = array(‚1.2.3.4'); $config['auth_radius_port'] = 1812; $config['auth_radius_secret'] = 'top_secret'; $config['auth_radius_method'] = 'PAP'; $config['auth_radius_groupmemberattr'] = 'Filter-Id'; $config['auth_radius_groups']['super_admin']['level'] = 10; $config['auth_radius_groups'][’user']['level'] = 7; The authentication works very well, but after logging in, I’m getting only an empty page an empty page. Dear all, Currently we are looking into the different option to get data from NSX Edge devices. Since snmp is not available on them we used the api to get the statistic information. Currently we store those values in a database. We would like to know what would be the best way to import this data into observium. Our goal is to have a generic solution that we can use for all kinds of data gathered from devices without snmp. We are also willing to contribute this to the observium community. >From what I have seen we have several options: 1. using an agent to provide the data on the agent port. 2. write an application. Customer Records Missing on rebuild

Hi - I did a full rebuild of Observium and restored the database. I previously had the ability to view 'Customers'. I can still see the Customers item in the Ports drop down but there are no entries. I can see that there are no records in the Customers table in the db. Since the customers were generated by polling the devices I thought this might just be a short term problem however after nearly 24 hours there are still no customer entries. I am wondering if I have missed something in the config or if perhaps this is because I have only installed the community edition initially whereas we had previously used the subscription edition including the traffic accounting functionality? Not sure where to start investigating the issue so would appreciate any suggestions. Cheers Mal

Found bug? in p2p_radios poller / discovery

Hello I am running Observium 17.7.8697 (stable), I also tried rolling but seem to have the same issue I noticed some radios on our network did not have the P2P radio tab while others did, in some cases these where identical radios with identical firmware. Hi all, We have a requirement for some IPv6 IPSLA instances on an ASR9k. Can't say this has ever come up before, but anyway, it appears that the IPv6 target IPs don't show up (thousand words below): Is this a known issue (ie. Cisco failing to send it) or did we find a bug? Interestingly, the actual 'result' latency data is all there (and correct) but somewhat difficult to comprehend without the target IP :) Cheers! VRF defined by route-target not route-distinguisher

Hi All, Just wondering if there is a way to use route-target to define our VRF's on observium instead of RD. We use route reflector's and therefore have a need for different RD's on each PE for the same VRF. However this means that we get 10 or so VRF's listings for the same VRF. Ideally we would just flip it to be RT if possible. (we use, Juniper MX, Cisco Nexus, Cisco IOS) Any feedback massively appreciated. Only had OBS running for just over a week and hugely impressed. syslog alert notifications not firing

Howdy, I’ve setup syslog integration in our copy of observium. In the UI’s /syslog_alerts/ we are seeing the alerts. I have the syslog rules turned on in both our email and telegram contacts. I’ve rebuilt the rule checkers. Unfortunately we’re not getting alerted. We’re getting other alerts, just not for syslogs. I can’t find anything in the obs log or the server’s syslog that would tell me why it’s not working. Can anyone point me to how I can troubleshoot this please? Thanks, Joey

Community Edition Release Cycle

Storage reading error

Polling

Hello, After the installation we have an issue with the rrdtool. In order to have a graph we must have a polling each 5 minutes, but that's used a lot of cpu. Reporting Windows mount points in CE edition

Our deployment is monitoring customer premises equipment over hub (us and Observium server) spoke (each client network) VPN tunnels. We're ready to start spending some money with you guys but had a few questions please? 1. Is it possible to set device dependencies, so for instance, if a WAN router fails, all of the devices behind it don't show as down? 2. Is it possible for a device to not show as down unless it fails to respond to multiple polling requests (such as three attempts?) Alerting to be based on these rules? 3. Can we brand the login page an UI with our company details, as we offer the whole system in a MSP role? Thank you. LDAP Auth Help

Happy end of the week! I'm struggling with LDAP auth (we use Jumpcloud <https://support.jumpcloud.com/customer/portal/articles/2439911> - so I think we have an added layer of weirdness to contend with). I can't find any information about how to generate (or where it might end up) debugging output so I can work out what I am doing wrong. I have a system where the storage sizes are being reported incorrectly and there appears to be an issue with reading ZFS file systems being reported at all. I have 4 NAS (OmniOS) servers that are ZFS based, but none of the ZFS disk space is being reported at all. Multiple Payments

Hi, We're a subscriber to observium professional and recently did what we did last year and paid the £240 for renewal. The accounts department are querying that a further £180 has been taken out in the same month. I can only assume this is due to an auto renewal system. Help with Alert Checker matching

I'm hoping somebody can help with an alert checker. I'd like to look at "port_descr_notes" and if it contains NoAlert anywhere in it - not have it fire the *should be up rule*. ifAdminStatus equals up ifOperStatus equals down I've tried... port_descr_notes notmatch *NoAlert* port_descr_notes notregexp .*NoAlert.* Both with no success (they both completely invalidate the rule). The string "NoAlert" should be able to fall anywhere in the description, start, middle, end - or just completely by itself. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Wildcards in hostname device match not working

Hello everyone, today I noticed that wildcards are not working anymore if I use them for hostnames as I create new alert checker. the hostnames I try to trigger are commonly looking like this: vh01-name vh02-name ... vh16-name Simple running numbers counting up and the rest is the same. I tried the following masks as match: *name* vh* vh*-name none of the above are working. The current workaround is to write a hostname check for every machine, as I got 16 Device Match entries at the moment. Could this be because of the !=/ne operand I use? Because the logical function I try to accomplish is filtering out specific servers from a alerter, so they will be ignored and not checked. Can you give an advise? Thanks and much regards, Sebastian

Looking for assistance on extending our subscription. I'm a current subscriber with an expiration of 2017-01-23 and I wanted to renew early to spend the money this year. I paid for another year, but instead of extending our current subscription a new SVN account was created with its own expiration. Request for LigoWave Wireless MIB support

Hello Observium developers, It would be highly appreciated if it is possible to add support for LigoWave Wireless equipment in Observium. Currently the LigoWave equipment shows as a generic Linux machine in Observium. Attached are smpwalks for the LigoWave LigoPTP 5-23 RapidFire and for the LigoWave LigoPTP 5-23 PRO, as well as the mib definition files. Hi All - recently broke my Observium install during a Ubuntu upgrade so now I am looking to build Observium on a new box. I inherited this install and have only used it a small degree so it is fair to say I am not very familiar with the overall package but want to get a better understanding an expand my usage as much as possible. For my new install I would like to be able to retain access to the historical data that has been collected (if possible). I am hoping someone will be able to give me a quick rundown on what parts of the current install I should be backing up? I have taken a copy of the mysql DB to start with but I am not sure if I should be taking something else as well. Appreciate any assistance. Cheers Mal

V2C works perfectly but v3 doesnt work

Hi Team, I am in the process of upgrading the SNMP version from v2c to v3. I have tested with few test units but in all cases, I can do the polling via v2c without any issue but when I use v3 it doesn't work. I tried with noauth , auth and auth&priv options but in all option I get an error msg saying I couldn't connect to the end device via the V3 parameters Any help on this is highly appreciated Thank You Uthay
