Geolocation Lookups stopped when updating to 17.5.8580

Hi, After upgrading from version 17.5.8580 to version 17.7.8697 the geolocation lookups using Openstreetmap seem to have stopped. The event logs used to be full of lines such as: Geolocation (OPENSTREETMAP) -> [43.719989, -71.004577] United States (Country), New York (State), New York (County), New York (City) These are now completely missing. This means the location for all devices is now unknown. I have another server on version 17.5.8580 with identical configuration which is still able to do the geolocation lookups. Here is the relevant output from config.php: $config['geocoding']['enable'] = TRUE; // Enable Geocoding $config['geocoding']['location_menu_geocoded'] = TRUE; $config['geocoding']['api'] = 'mapquest'; $config['geocoding']['api']['key'] = '<HIDDEN>'; $config['geocoding']['default']['lat'] = "51.5111119"; // Default latitude $config['geocoding']['default']['lon'] = "-0.0059373"; // Default longitude What do I need to change in order to get the geolocation lookups working again? Broke Apache changing Observium IP

Wow dummy move on my part. The Observium server was still running with DHCP so I went in and changed tio to a static IP and now when I try to access Observium, I get the apache “It Works!” page. HP RAID and Exchange 2010

I have been running the Pro version for 24 hours now. Really like what I see. Couple things I am looking to be able to monitor. I have one Supermicro server with windows 2008r2 and it is reporting in the individual raid drive status. This is great so I added another server HP dl380 running windows 2008r2 and I don’t see the raid drive statuses. How can I add theses? On the same HP DL380 we are running Exchange 2010. I was hoping I could get some monitoring of Exchange as well. I would appreciate any help. SNMPD on Ubuntu

I am looking to get more and more items working and now I am looking at the Ubuntu servers we have. After attempting to setup my first server I get the output below when running the snmpwalk command. Nested alert device matching?

Howdy Guys, I'm trying to figure out how I can build a "nested" for lack of better description device matching script. For example, "type equals network AND hostname match *domain1.com*". Or, "type equals network AND hostname notmatch *domain2.com*". I can't just use a "hostname match *domain1.com*" because I also have devices in other groups with the same hostname match, but don't want to alert-check on those other groups. how to create custom sensor threshold for some devices?

Hi I am running Observium Professional an im havving an issue with some sensors in our environment I have a sensor that is always generating an alert: Index: hh3cEntityExtTemperature.112 Class: temperature min: 0 degrees max: 0 degrees current: 40 degrees I have many of them on one device i.e.: hh3cEntityExtTemperature.112 hh3cEntityExtTemperature.122 hh3cEntityExtTemperature.262 hh3cEntityExtTemperature.267 Additionally, all switches of this kind are producing the alerts since they all have the indexes and the incorrect threshold. How can i set a custom threshold that is valid for all of these switches and Indexes (the indexes are equal on all of the switches)? Alert checker for APC ups

Alert Checkers and Mail Settings

Hello Experts, Quick one, I have Port Down Alerts on my Alerts section. I have not disabled the polling and alerts for those ports on the respective devices. But inspite of it, I still see those alerts in my alerts section. Does it clear or something just because we have disabled the polling for those ports which are down. ??? Also, I have put my mail ID as contact and enabled the mail alerts. For example, I have 50 alerts in my alerts section: [cid:image001.png@01D2F3D8.B1EB9EA0] So I get an alert flood in my mail box for those 50 alerts all once. I have my refresh interval of 5 mins, so after 5 mins I get the flood of 50 mail alerts again ? Why there is a recurring of the mail alerts ? Thank you for the Response Adam, Was also wondering, I have added some alert checks for Network related testing. [cid:image001.png@01D2F19D.1634BC40] If you see, the one highlighted are for Network related alerts, but I seem to have some issue here. If you look at the above for the CPU, Memory, Storage, etc the tool is able to detect and show the numbers in “Green” and “Red” But there is nothing indicating for BGP, high temperature and other highlighted alert checkers. Am I doing something different here or my alert conditions have issues ? Started getting multiple events "Device status changed to Down (ping) " over the last few weeks with no major increase in number of devices. Issue started on Cento 6.9 install with PHP 5.4, MySQL 5.1 (260 devices) HW - dual - quad core xeon CPUs, 24 GB Ram, RRD, MySQL, OS - with Observium install all on separate SSD drives Observium SVN install 17.6.8672 (rolling) Upgraded PHP and MySQL to PHP70 with opcode caching enabled, MySQL 5.7.18 - no change Spun up a fresh install Centos 7.3, PHP70 with opcode caching enabled, MySQL 5.7.18 (install per docs) HW - dual - quad core xeon CPUs, 24 GB Ram, RRD, MySQL, OS - with Observium install all on separate SSD drives Observium SVN install 17.6.8672 (rolling) $config['snmp']['max-rep'] = TRUE; Currently only 139 devices added To eliminate DNS related issues I have added the devices to /etc/hosts and forced resolution to use it first. Cron has /opt/observium/observium-wrapper poller -w 5 running every 5 min. The devices are not down and if I manually poll the device with a "Device status changed to Down (ping) " notice it responds normally and comes right back up. Was wondering if anyone has seen any behavior like this with this build or before. Also is there a way to skip ping during the poller run and just do snmp, and if so is it something that I can enable globally? Thanks in advance Ron Culler

HTTP request sent, awaiting response... Read error (Connection reset by peer) in headers. Retrying. I couldn't find any solution. I use static IPv4 address and DNS servers. Ubuntu 16.04 LTS works on VCENTER Virtual Machine Version: 11 and Network Adapter is VM Network. Any solutions? Thanks.

Hello, What would be the correct way to extract rrd data for a certain period of time (last 7 days for example). I'm trying to extract data for the following graph http://imgur.com/a/Gw9y2, although when I open up the data in excel, I'm not able to get anything of use. I used this command to produce an RRD export first: /opt/observium/scripts/rrdtoolx.py addrra netstats-udp.rrd /tmp/testrrd after which I used: rrdtool dump /tmp/testrrd > /tmp/rrd.xml to get the file into an xml format, and finally I imported the xml into excel. I'm trying to put together a list of time stamps and their appropriate data points, so for example: time1 : 22 errors time2: 10 errors time3: 30 errors .... Would it even be possible to extract this kind of data from the RRD files? Thanks for your help, Austin

WAN link monitoring

Hi, I have looked for previous questions regarding this, but haven't been able to find one, so I apologise if it has been asked/answered before. We have several paths to a remote router that we monitored via it's loopback IP address. Observium does a great job at alerting us when that router is offline, but, I'm unable to find a way to be alerted when we have a single WAN link failure. During a WAN link failure we can still access the remote router via a redundant path, however, we are often not aware that the primary is offline since Observium can still reach the remote router. Apart from checking if utilisation on the link drops below a certain level, is there any other way that I can perform a check and alert on the above scenario? Thanks, Luke

Question on geolocation dropdown menu

We have a largish installation and have locations / devices in every state in the US and every province/territory in Canada. We have been adding all of these to Observium and allowing them to be geolocated based on SNMP location strings (works perfectly, thank you) but found that we are running into an issue where the scrollbar is too tall for many average browser screens. There does not seem to be a way to scroll here so there are some locations that will just not be accessible or seen on this dropdown menu. Is there a way to tune or change this? Also any possibility that the states/provinces/territories can be alphabetically listed on the dropdown menu instead of in seemingly order they were added or random? Screenshot attached, there are more locations at the bottom but that was all I could fit on the screen for the capture. Thanks for any input.

Failing that, I have a device name that I'd like to change the name of to reflect a configuration change. email alerts not working after update to r8661

After we update Observium subscription version from r8637 to r8661 emailed alerts are no longer working. Alerts are still logged in the alert log, however the "Notified" status says "No" and no emails are generated. Its shown 0B ( 100%) as below picture.I have tested pulled using wmic it able to produce data and also from the ./poller.php but in the observium it wont show any data. Hello, I tried several times to add the new Cisco CMTS CBR8, this units has 2000 to 4000 services depending on the line cards, but it always brings Observium to crash. Once the systems hangs completely the other time the Database crashed. I tried it on the pro version and also an the CE version. So if I delete the rrd files in question and let it recreate them and still get the same unable to parse header after they are created again would that rule out the rrd files being corrupted? Anything I can retrieve to help verify if this a bug in the stable branch or system? Down Port Alert Filtering

Hi, I'd like to filter out ports which show in the summary table by removing those which are of the type 'Customer' Currently it looks like this: [cid:image001.png@01D2DF86.29E80950] I would like to ignore Customer type ports (which have a description starting with "Cust:") as it is very common for a number of these to be down at any given time in our use case. So it's not worth of showing up as a Red condition on the main page. Is this something that is currently configurable (like ignoring entire devices, can I also ignore a 'type' of port?) or does something not currently exist for this? BGP all session : page load >20seconds with 22k sessions

Hello, I monitored very big network with great tool is Observium. But I have issue with "BGP All session" page : When I navigate on this page, the load time is >20 seconds. I have not the issue with "All ports" page. We have >22k BGP sessions and >1300 Remote ASN. The generation time displayed in bottom righ is between 1 and 2 sec. After some time, I think understand the problem : It's not generation issue, but navigator issue with javascript. The left pan load <0.5sec with first BGP list. But the right pan with search form load >15 seconds. The navigator freeze or greatly slowed down (with "warning : one onglet slowed navigator"). I have test with Firefox and Chrome : same result. I think the big list of "Remote AS" and "Peer address" place JS engine in crazy mode. Do you have option in configuration mode to disable the list of Remote AS/Peer address and only use free text? Or not charge all list and use JS to load list when an letter/number is provided? For the moment, we can't not really use this page :( Thank! Johann

Is it possible to use port_descr_circuit directly for scheduled maintenance? At the moment I have to create a port group consisting of of the two circuit interfaces using port_descr_circuit to schedule circuit maintenance. This feels a bit clunky due to the extra step and results in dozens of port groups containing two interfaces.

Hi All, We just discovered out email alerts have not been sending, and when checking the test_alert.php we see the following error: PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'Mail/mimePart.php' (include_path='/opt/observium/libs:.:/usr/share/php') in /opt/observium/libs/pear/Mail/mime.php on line 63 Changing line 63 in that file to 'pear/Mail/mimePart.php' fixes the issue and the test alerts works again. Has something changed in a recent Observium release that would have broken this include? Anyone else seeing this? Just upgraded to 17.6.8631 and the issue persists. Many Thanks, Tim C

Hello, hope someone can help. We are running 17.5.8587 rolling and we are unable to add a device using the WebUI, we get "Could not reach ServerName with given SNMP parameters using v2c." However adding a device from the command line with add_device.php and the same parameters works fine. Any suggestions welcome. I couldn't get the ports to be accepted as a variable using the add_device.php, one of my colleagues fixed the script so that it worked . Hi, Noticed that what seems to be all of our Cisco kit is no longer showing memory information in Observium (Running 8562 rolling)? If I look at one example Cisco device properties, the MIBS section looks like this, which suggests CISCO-MEMORY-POOL is suppressed and CISCO-ENHANCED-MEMPOOL-MIB is enabled. device_status metric

Hi, I have a checker set up like this: device_status = 0 This gives an alert when the device is down. Unfortunately it gives lots of false positives, so perhaps I do not understand good enough how this checker checks if the connection is down or not ? Sudden Burst's in Traffic

Dear ALL, I am at version 0.16.11.8249 professional, this was working fine until recently, it is showing IPv4 traffic in GB's for some devices occasionally. Whilst other days it behaves normally. 500 error when rebuilding alert checkers

Hey everyone, I'm in the middle of standing up a new observium box and running into an issue where I create an alert checker for port errors. After creating the new checker, I click on rebuild and then get an HTTP 500 error. Attached is a screenshot of the configuration of the alert checker. I'm running 17.5.8561 (rolling) but did occur in a previous release and was hoping that upgrading would fix it but did not. -- Jay

Poller count

I'm frequently running out of memory on a 4 GB VM running CentOS7. The vm only runs Observium. I'm seeing a bunch of php /opt/observium/poller.php processes getting created and the box gradually runs out of memory and mariadb dies. I'm running version 8485. Any ideas? Thanks! Jay

RealTime traffic view problem

Is there a way to widen the auto generated limits across all system temperature oids? I tried adjusting the alert test conditions using arithmetic but I do not think it’s implemented. Stuck alerts for sensors and statuses

Hi, Following a series of device upgrades and reloads over the last couple of days; we now have some 'invisible' stuck alerts: I cannot seem to find them anywhere, clicking them produces a blank list and even if you click the "Total" column. In this example I clicked the number "605" under Statuses but I get a page which only shows 595 items - so 10 missing, which equals the number of phantom alerts exactly. We had this once before and it was to do with devices, which are set to 'Ignore' for their alerts. We have 42 devices like this (a mixture of Lab and workstations) which unfortunately, would be a very large amount of manual checking. So I'm hoping there is a better way and I'm just missing it? :) So - any idea how I can find/reset/clear these items? Cheers! I've added print_message lines to see if my code is called. When I try another device e.g. a zyxel device I can see my code is executed. session problems with centos 7, php 70, and latest stable Observium

I’ve recently upgraded a commercial observium install to PHP 7 (from IUS) on Centos 7. Ever since, it’s been dropping my session and requiring a fresh login very very often. Sometimes as soon as I login, the links on the home page are telling me my session has expired, and sometimes everything works fine for hours. More often then not, I’m logged out within an hour though. This happens with basic mysql auth and ldap auth. I don’t see anything in the log files to indicate why the sessions are dropping, is there a debugging setting that can help me figure out what is going wrong? Any known gotchas under php 7.0 for the sessions? Looks like r7476 on the stable tree. Thanks, -Darrell

Hi All, I have a device which doesn't provide the SysObjectId.0. It start right away with the Enterprise entry's: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.14848.2.1.1.1.0 = STRING: "Version 1.62" Is there a way to add such an device? The values I'm interested in are in the enterprise part of the mib and could be easily retreated by a custom OID. But without an SysObjectId it seems impossible to add a device. Any Suggestions? Observium doesn't discover Juniper MX properly?

Hello all, Today I added first Juniper MX480 to our Observium (Subscription Edition), but for some reason it doesn't discover physical interfaces. Loopbacks are properly discovered. What is interesting, when I look into "Inventory" I can see chassis, PEMs and FPCs. I've seen in the docs that MX960 is supported, so should be MX480. Are there any special knobs I should use to get this working please? Kind regards, Marcin Kurek

Cisco switches showing wrong Packet Size

Hi, No luck trying to review the Observium Archives see if this was asked before, getting a Not Found off the web link. Running Observium 17.3.8438 (stable), question on MTU size on Cisco interfaces. On our HP ProCurve switches with Jumbo enabled, all displays correctly, see MTU as 9216 on the interfaces as expected. On our Cisco models with Jumbo enabled, MTU shows 1500 on Average Packet Size graph. I believe this is due to Cisco interfaces showing the MTU as 1500 even when Jumbo frames are enabled and are passing Jumbo on the switch interfaces. Seeing this on both Cisco models 2960s and 3K the Average Packet Size found to be 1500. Any chance someone have a work around for this Cisco problem, able to set the MTU up to 9216 for the interfaces? Appreciated! Jim

Hi All, is there any way to disable some specific data source (not all the mib) ? For eg. FC/SFP ports current/voltage/temperature/dbm ? I should save some disk IO (mysql, rrd). Nightly housekeeping cause extremly high load and stops polling. Thanks in advance, imedve

Device not visible

Hello! We have a device that is no longer visible in Observium. It is not in the device list and the search function can't find it. I tried to add it again to Observium, but get this message: "Already got device xyz." Running "./discovery.php -h xyz" returns this: "WARNING: 0 devices discovered. Did you specify a device that does not exist?" Is there something wrong with our database? How to fix it? Thanks, Siegfried
