Highly requested Alert check metric for load averages!

Cyan Z77

I am having difficultly getting a Cyan Z77 to detect properly as a Cyan device in Observium. I noticed that the mib files came loaded in the mib folder with the initial installation. I have not added any add on modules yet. Running CentOS 7. Here is what my event log looks like 22h 19m 10.x.x.13 sysDescr -> 'Z77' 22h 19m 10.x.x.13 sysName -> 'z77' 22h 19m 10.x.x.13 sysObjectID -> '.1.3.6.1.4.1.28533.1.1' 22h 22m 48s 10.x.x.13 Device added: 10.x.x.13 (by user: xxxxxx) The device shows up as generic. HyperV CPU usage

Hello, I'm running some windows 2016 HyperVs and I'd like to get the CPU usage including the VMs so I can see which HyperV is overloaded and balance them out accordingly but what I get at the moment is just what the host is using which is about 2-5%. I know performance monitor can gather these status so is there any way to get observium to latch on to that CPU stst rather than just what the host is using? Overview page - Statuses - Down Column issue

Hello all, I am running SVN revision 8457 from 2017-03-19. I noticed that the overview page on the Statuses Row, Down column, showed "2 alert" but when I clicked on the link it would show no entries. After looking at the code and contents of the SQL data I found out that I have two power supplies that have a "down" state. This is accurate. In html/includes/cache-data.inc.php line 439 the switch statement increments the $cache['statuses']['stat']['alert'] variable which is why I see the "2 alert" link which is correct. But the link from html/includes/status-summary.inc.php line 79 says: (Short version) generate_url(array('page' => 'health', 'metric' => 'status', 'event' => 'alert,')) I thought the extra comma after alert was odd but I added down and now the health page shows the two down power supplies. New version: generate_url(array('page' => 'health', 'metric' => 'status', 'event' => 'alert,down')) Thanks for a great product. Todd (Tech-Rat)

Collectd graph tuning

Hi! Not sure if other have the same issue, but my Collectd graphs show up occupying just half of the size compared to normal Observium graphs, plus the font size is so tiny that you can't really read it. I found in /opt/observium/html/includes/collectd/config.php that the following control the size of the graphs, and if I multiply the variable with 2 like in the example below, I get pretty close to the right size : // Array of paths when collectd's rrdtool plugin writes RRDs $config['datadirs'] = array($config['collectd_dir']); // Width of graph to be generated by rrdgraph if(isset($_GET['width'])) { $config['rrd_width'] = $_GET['width'] ** 2*; } else { $config['rrd_width'] = 270; } // Height of graph to be generated by rrdgraph if(isset($_GET['height'])) { $config['rrd_height'] = $_GET['height'] ** 2*; } else { $config['rrd_height'] = 120; } Clearly there should be a more precise way than just multiply with 2....I guess someone this list may know the proper way to solve this ? Device polling issue

Hi, I have been using Observium for a long time and I use it in my home. I have a pretty big lab network in my house. I get a lot of equipment for testing from my employer, NETGEAR. My discovery is every 5 minutes and my poller is every 2 or 3 minutes. Anyway, during discovery, the Processors on one of my products, WC9500, is constantly updating the event log, updating all processors to descr Processor vs descr Intel Xeon @ 2.00 GHz. Before I chose to inquire with Observium mailing list, I've been e-mailing back and forth with the wireless controller developers asking them to address the fact that out of all of my devices, the WC9500 is the only device that can't seem to keep the processor right, and keeps spamming my event logs. They immediately want to point blame at Observium, but I won't let them. Anyway, I just thought I'd check to see if anyone has also experienced any similar output during Discovery, and if you can give me any better clues to provide to my developers to show them it is an issue with the device and not Observium. In my testing to see how I could reproduce it, I spammed the device with snmpwalk requests to pull out the processor and it never faulted from "Intel Xeon @ 2.00 GHz", so I wasn't finding "Processor" there. Review screen shot to see event log for the device. Thanks for any assistance. Cody

WMI service query

Hello, I had a question concerning the WMI implementation in Observium. I’d like to be able to create an alert to track the state of a service. Using the following WMIC command I’m able to view the state of a particular service wmic -U DOMAINNAME/Username%Password //HOSTNAME.DOMAIN.COM "SELECT Name,State FROM Win32_Service where Name='vmicvss'" CLASS: Win32_Service Name|State vmicvss|Stopped Is it possible to turn this command into an alert somehow? Hi. I have a switch "Lenovo RackSwitch G8332" that observium doesn't support. Observium is capable to monitoring all the interfaces but it marks as a Generic Device. Another model of Lenovo RackSwitch (G8052) is working properly. How we can add this model in observium? Thank you in advance, Albert

Hi, How I can set so that only genuine alert for Down state will be send to email? I already set an email alert and it successfully send an email but it will keep send all UP and DOWN in split of a second. Is it based on the delay setting ? or how I can I identify the true down state ? Different polling frequency for certain graphs

We are using the standard polling frequency of 5min, which is fine for normal (customer) interfaces. But regarding core interface (in our MPLS network) 5 min polling type does not show short outages etc. Is there any way to poll certain graphs (e.g. limited number with a certain tag) with another frequency (e.g. 1 min), Or do I have to have a another observium instance for that? All Ports Removed

Hello Everyone, I am having an issue with an Extreme Network switch. I add the switch and everything looks fine, the issue occurs after the first poll and all the ports get removed. All other graphs are working fine (power, fans, etc) when I got to ports page there is nothing. I have several other Extreme Network switches that all the ports show up just fine. Fortigate multiple CPU's not showing

Hi We have lots of fortigates monitored in observium (running rolling version 17.3.8418) and most of them have multiple CPU's (depends which model depends on what CPUs it has). Observium only shows 1 CPU but when looking at the fortigate we can see there are numerous CPU's. (eg. the one ive shown below is a Fortigate 1000D which has 8 CPU's but observium only shows 1). Alerting and device adding broken after update

Adam, We have the Subscription edition of Observium and yesterday I upgraded to the latest build. After the build update was completed, I also updated my php version from 5.4.16 to 5.6.30 . After doing this, I am no longer getting email alerts and cannot add new devices. Any idea to what has went wrong here? What next step should I take? I have a Raspberry PI3 device that I am testing Observium CE on before buying the subscription version. However, I added a cisco device that supports VRFs and the page shows 5 but it is blank. I have an Observium CE 0.16.10.8128 running on a turnkey appliance and that is running fine....though the OS is Debian 8.4. The BGP page loads fine. Haven't seen any other issues as of yet. Vrf polling question

Good morning guys during implementation observium I experienced issue with vrf polling I can't solve and also didn't find respective answer in forums. Let me introduce problem itself. We have Cisco based network with big number of vrfs. Every single vrf doesn't have only one RD, but unique RD per device. Even this last octet on all distinguishers is same so for example Vrf 1 on R1 is rd 1.1.1.1 Vrf 1 on R2 is rd 1.1.1.2 Is it possible somehow edit web interface to show all vrfs grouped by name or last rd octet as primary key, because right now I see in observium big bunch duplicated vrfs. Hope my trouble is understandable and some solution exists. Thanks Jan

Hello, We are trying to enable TLS on top of ldap connections. Once, i change startls to FALSE or required $config['auth_ldap_starttls'] = TRUE; $config['auth_ldap_starttls'] = 'required'; I get the following message: [image: Inline image 1] What does it mean exactly ? Version mismatch ? Cert error ? Xinetd for UNIX Agent

Having an issue getting the agent to behave itself on a server. Getting this error when looking at xinetd status: Must specify a server in observium_agent I double checked all of the file locations and they are all correct. With a Cisco ASA 9.4(3)6 and graphing the Remote Access Sessions, I am seeing odd data and it looks like others have had the same issue for a couple years now. Minor graph problems

Ever since I moved our installation from CentOS6 with PHP 5.6 to CentOS7 (7.3) with PHP 7.0, I've noticed that the MRTG, "Graph Maximum" and "Graph Trend" menu items don't do anything. All of them used to work great. Is this enough information to signal to anyone what particular PHP package or PHP configuration entry might have been missed? I'm hoping the combination of these three is a smoking gun that signals "X is missing". Thanks.

Simple service checks?

Hi All Very new to observium, so please forgive me if this is a silly question :-) In order to migrate away from nagios we also want to be able to track non-snmp values. For example; - Response time of web sites (is response correct, if so report response time) - SSL Certificate (is cert ok, if so report number of days left) … and similar Very easily scriptable checks, I just can’t work out what to do with them. Ideally I’d like to create a device that doesn’t respond to SNMP checks but gets data from a local script. Is this achievable or am I completely misusing Observium? Simply trying to get everything monitoring from one place :-) Mark

SVN Update doesn't seem to update observium

Hello All, I submitted a patch and it was commited in r8368, but when I run svn update to r8428 I dont get any of the changes. Anyone know whats wrong? We are running the subscription edition, if that matters. Hello all, I'm using traffic accounting for multiple interfaces and have noticed a strange occurrence. The graphs seem to be be producing the wrong time in the graphs. Logs for LDAP

Hi, I have been using observium for a while and I am pleased with it. Now when I try to integrate LDAP, I can't find the logs to troubleshoot. I activated LDAP and it connect correctly, the query looks good but no go. I got observium working almost exactly how I want it, but I have an issue with Windows cpu numbers. The graph looks fine (I think), but the numbers are weird. The max numbers look like a percentage, but the now and Avg show odd things like 640.5m I have no idea what that means. Also, the processor is never identified properly. I would happily change to wmi for Windows devices, but I'm not sure how that is done, or if it is stable. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences with wmi and observium? Thanks!

Discovery creating & deleting inventory entries

Hi All, When I run discovery.php on our Nokia 7210 Service Access Switch (Alcatel-Lucent TiMOS) it creates and deletes inventory entries and the valid entries are found at the bottom of the page. See screenshot below. Are these deleted automatically after some time? I found that there is an inventory.inc.php file for the housekeeping script, but it is not included in the options when running housekeeping.php. Does this mean that inventory.inc.php is deprecated? To delete them, I just edited the script myself and ran it. artificially high (100%) CPU usage reported from routing engine on Juniper MX-104 w/ 550 interfaces & solution

Observium has been recording artificially high CPU for RE0 on my MX-104, and I finally spent the time to understand what was going on and look for a solution. Here’s what I found in case it helps someone else. I say artificially because monitoring the system from the CLI reported 30-40% CPU usage with significant spikes during SNMP polling, but Observium constantly recorded 100% CPU usage. First up, I got the juniper to stop reporting on it’s internal interfaces and a bunch of others that show up by default. This removed a bunch of interfaces that existed but never had data and observing was polling. This cut the poll time down a fair bit, so I mention it if you haven’t used it on a juniper before. If you want this, it’s: snmp { filter-interfaces { all-internal-interfaces; interfaces { <other interface you don’t want stats for here>; } } } I also went through and turned off all the modules it wasn’t using or weren’t producing any data in polling or discovery. Helped a little more, but exposed something odd. When I would run polling on just the processors module, it would report CPU usage that matched what I saw in the CLI. When it ran as part of the whole host polling, it reported 100%. Figured out it was polling the processors after it had polled sensors and the 550 interfaces on this router, and that has run up the CPU utilization while it was polling, so the RE was reporting that instant CPU usage while it was still high. Not sure it was the best way, but moved the processor module to the head of the polling queue, and now I’m getting a CPU status that is more representative of the general load on the RE, and not the 100% usage the SNMP polling was causing. This router has always had this many interfaces, so as far as I can tell, a change in polling order caused this behavior and not a growth in interfaces. Observium-OpsGenie integration

I'd like to know if there are any changes in the latest updates of Observium that could affect Observium - OpsGenie integration. Today, one of our customers came up with a problem. He says Observium alerts aren't being forwarded to OpsGenie. He also says that he didn't change any configuration in Observium and in OpsGenie. We've confirmed that he didn't change any configuration in our side. We also asked him to check his Observium configuration and compare it with our docs. He's checked and nothing is wrong. Unable to parse header `DSName' rrdtool

I have a few different rrdtool graphs that are outputting "RRDTool Output: ERROR: rrdc_fetch: Unable to parse header `DSName'" So far I've only noticed it on specific Citrix Netscaler graphs, the Netscaler SSL ones nsSslHandshakes, nsSslSessions, etc and TCP Connections and TCP Packets for the netscalers are all in the same state with Unable to parse header `DSName'. Migration CentOS 6 to 7 - Graphs Failing

Our Observium professional server file system was recently damaged beyond recovery. Fortunately the database and the Observium directory had been backed up the night before. The older server OS was CentOS 6 and the new OS is CentOS 7 (both 64 bit). The Observium directory was restored and the database imported; now the Observium web page is working well, with visibility of all devices, historic stats/states/graphs etc. The cron jobs are running and polling etc. - the state of devices updates dynamically via the map too. However, there are no updates to the any of the graphs. I'm not sure if there is a database problem, RRD problem or file permissions problem. Placing /debug after various pages does not reveal any problems. Can anyone recommend other places to look for debug/logging information? Thanks in advance Darren

Sorry, but I don't see any attached graphs. I do believe that Cisco memory graphs are working for other people, just not for me. When I go to graphs, system, all I see is processors and device uptime. Not sure where to start troubleshooting and/or correcting this. I should also note that I am using the Turnkey Linux appliance. Should I be seeing memory usage graphs on Cisco devices?

I have various Cisco devices ( catalyst switches, ios routers, ios-xe, etc), but none of them are showing any memory usage details in observium. I was surprised by this as observium did a remarkable job of recognizing and displaying information for things that most snmp tools do not, Qnap for example. It does recognize my Cisco devices and reports back on just about everything, but memory. Other tools I tried, such as Manageengine, PRTG, etc reported the memory with no issue. So, I'm skeptical that there is anything wrong with my snmp setup. I would really love to get memory usage for my Cisco devices. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. Thanks

Syslog parsing for NXOS

Hi list, Sorry if this had been asked before, but I'm unable to browse the mailing list archives. I have set up syslog parsing with Rsyslogd, like documented [1]. The syslog.php script does receive the logs and saves them in the database. Parsing logs from both Cisco Catalyst (IOS) and Cisco Nexus switches, I discovered that the NXOS logs are parsed incorrectly (see screenshot [2]). Search in device Description feature request

Hello, we have a small feature request; would it be possible to search for values in the device Description? ('purpose' column in device table). Preferably from the live search box thing in the top right of the UI? This would be a most useful feature for us. Observium weathermap issue

Hi All, I think weathermap is not part of Observium, but if anyone has the same issue with me please share Since I tried to created a few maps via web using weathermap editor like example1.conf, example2.conf, example3.conf and point it to like /maps/example1.html, /maps/example2.html, /maps/example3.html Then I tried to open each map, but all maps will link to the same content instead (like in the same example3). This is so strange if anyone used to have this issue like me, please share how you can fix it Thanks a lot

Hello, sorry for a maybe stupid question but I searched the Observium docs and FAQs and tried to search the mailing lists archive but latest was not available because the link to 'observium Archivs' on mailman's web interface leads to a 404. Is there an API to Observium and if is there a doc anywhere? Maybe I'm blind but I cannot find any related information if I inserted 'API' in the search field of the Obeservium docs. Google finds some pages that talk of " $config['api']['enabled'] = 1;" and/or query strings for an api.php - I do not even have an api.php in my observium installation. Some Observium values should be made available through a CRM and an API might be a smooth solution. Any tipps appreciated! Thanks, Uwe

Aggregate graph show not accurate total max of traffic

Hi All, I have one question related to aggregate maximum of graph I have sum up two ports together but it is actually not accurate Eg: one port: 10.54 Gb and another port: 10.95 Gb So total of max should be 10.54+10.95 = 21.49 but the real on graph is showing 21.34 instead Can anyone help to explain me about this? No graph policy description on Cisco CBQoS graph

Dear All, I wonder why Cisco CBQoS graph on Observium Pro have no graph description(policy name) show up? Since I observe there is policy description name showing up on Observium Community Edition. It should display something like: CUST-Name / class-default (input) CUST-Name / class-default (output) Can you guide if we can enable it on the script somewhere? Thanks so much.
