overview page of Historical availability of specific alertcheckers

Hello, Is there a way to get an overview page of the status of all the historical availability graphs of a specific alert type? So for example a page with all the DeviceDown alert type checks, with per device the row of graphs of the historical availability of the check. And preferably filtered by the devices in a group. Hi, is it possible to activate "Ignore device for alerting and notifications." until a specified time/date? I have tried to activate "Ignore device for alerting and notifications." under "Device settings" and set at time in "Alerts" but that didn't work. monitor nfs mounts

Hi All, I’m just trying to work out how i monitor the mounted nfs drives i have on a server? ive disabled $config['ignore_mount_network’] but still nothing? can this actually be done? i only want to see the folders that are mounted as a storage drive in observium and see the percentage thats being used i would just monitor our NAS drive directly but sadly the NAS storage drive is very old and doesn’t support SNMP but we are looking at a new one with SNMP support :) regards Simon - Hestor Ltd

Billing fails on specific interfaces

Hi! I was testing billing and with certain interfaces it reports no data, despite the graphs clearly showing data. My thought is that it may relate to the interface name as it works well with other products and interface names. The "special" think is that the interface name has a colon in it. Linux Firewall/Conntrack stats

Hi guys, I wanted to see some firewall statistics (more exactly connection tracking statistics) of some of our Linux servers, but I couldn't find anything alike in Observium. Debuging slow SNMP-queries

Hey guys, I noticed I have some devices in my network that are responding very slow on just some specific SNMP-queries so I hacked together a small script that will parse the debug-output of Observium poller or discovery and then show you a list of the snmp-commands that took the longest to complete. You should monitor your Dell server using snmp on the idrac itself like its a different device. The most important thing is the global status It will display in alert in the statuses front page. The global status is the color of the led when it's amber you have an issue. Now you will be able to see that in observium as well. Good luck. SNMP just sometimes has a hickup. Although usually I don’t have these, but in order to prevent panic/heart attacks, I did introduce that 1 time delay on my device down alerts. Haven you applied alert checkers on port-errors all around your network as well? CRC/port errors, and things like these you might want to fix first before you actually get in to device down alerting. Just a simple "ifInErrors_rate gt 0 & ifOutErrors_rate gt 0 on ifType equals ethernetCsmacd” alert-check will give you all these ports. you’d be surprised how much stuff is wrong in an average network. Also certainly check the port to which your observium machine is connected to, and make sure to monitor your observium machine as well, make sure your machine is well specced out. In addition to this, I’ve configured IP SLA on all our core routers to see/verify that latency on our links is within the SLA parameters of our suppliers. Do this before you check on devices down. I'll echo this sentiment. We were seeing a large number of false positives because of lack of SNMP response from some devices even though they were responding to pings without problem. Setting a delay of 1 reduced the number of alerts we were seeing substantially. We do still get a couple devices that will fail both checks, usually right after the discovery run, and we'll get an alarm on that, but it clears itself next poll. Hello, I am currently trying to completely replace our cacti installation with Observium. One of the last things that make me hold on to cacti are these kind of graphs: [cid:image001.gif@01D1C580.2CFF4E30] The graphs are described here: http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8520 We have put the most important interfaces on our NOC screen and can immediately recognize if some interfaces are under unusual high load. Hi, I've recently added some hosts to my monitored services. - All are running Apache 2.4 so I applied the Apache configuration as described at http://www.observium.org/docs/apps/#apache - All except one show the Apache application info as expected. - Except for the missing Apache info, this site is correctly reported (so general snmp / xinet config are fine) - I have carefully reviewed the different points for this host and Apache config, all is nominal. Which are the points I might have done wrong in the checklist? Which other points not in the checklist should I look at? Thx for your help Bernard

Alert Checker for memory?

I created an alert to let me know when a host uses over 90% of its memory. The problem is that linux uses over that in "cached" memory. Is there a way to exclude cached memory? Hello, Finally bought the subscription version. Except, I get a link to the Subscription Management Portal and none of my passwords work. So I tried to reset but never get an email. I then tried to create a new account using a personal email but it never sends me an activation link. Is there a phone number I can call? Actually I have only two Alerts Checks : Device Down device_status equals 0 * * Device UP device_status equals 1 * * It's possible to add a delay before triggering ? inconsistent traffic windows -> freebsd

Hi, today I noticed something strange I can't explain at the moment. I am running a backup job (8TB) over a 1Gbit Interface, from Windows Server 2012 R2 -> HP switch -> Freebsd 10.2 The freebsd snmp interface reports the real Bits/s with an Avg In of 511.98M while the Windows Interface in charge reports an average of 32M out. If I take a look at the Task Manager within windows I'd also guess and Avg of 500Mbit/s. Also the Unicast Packets TX of Windows are very similiar to the Traffic RX at freebsd. I have attached two screenshots and would be very glad if someone could take a look. I have also added the relevant part of my weathermap, where I take the switch interfaces snmp to draw the links, and they look very alike to the windows interface, but not to the freebsd. Please help, I am starting to doubt my qualification. with kind regards, Valentin

Group ports based on subnet...?

Hello Trying/wanting to create a group for ports based on what subnet they're on. Is this possible...? Think I've tried most approached but haven't managed so far. When looking at details on ports for a device this is pretty much already done at the right most column next to mac adress. WatchGuard Device Discovery

SMTP fail, ignores settings in config.php

Hi I'm trying to figure out what has happend to the mail in our observium. It was working for a while but not now.. My Observium is a TurnKey appliance download. Now i can see that it's trying to open port 25 on a server that it's not supposed to go to.. Don't know if someone have been messing with the server.. Hi! I created a few custom OID entries for BlueCat (DNS). This works well as the DNS OIDs are straight forward. For the DHCP part of this product, using custom OIDs won't cut it as one have to traverse each subnet for data, so I wanted to know if anyone is working on enhanced BlueCat already ? /Jesper

I'll be damned. That was probably just pure luck but it alerted faster than expected. Please see screenshot link displaying the alert mail, because they to look a tad odd: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5ynr67ior7at3e3/mailalert.png. It lasted for 5 minutes, or actually just a brief moment within the polling period, but look at the duration in the recovery email. Really odd. By the way, are there templates where we can configure the layout of the email alerts (subject, what it displays in body and more)? Here is a screenshot of the graph created from the data in previous command. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nw47m75tj601gmh/csv_graph.png So yes. There's spikes in the data and I guess they don't show up in data center expert because they run some filter at it or just ignore random peaks or something. The value of the peaks in the now collected data is ALWAYS 20480 which in some way feels significant since it's constant and feels like some sort of unit max value. If we're getting a spike, it's either that the device is sending the wrong data, or that the device is sending a number which hasn't been adjusted for the scale the device uses. It'll be the first if the 1.6-1.9 doesn't have any relation to the "real" number, and the latter if it's just off by a few orders of magnitude. It's pretty unlikely that we could do any bad maths, maths is easy, and such bugs would present much more regularly. These sorts of things are pretty common on many vendor's SNMP implementations. You might be able to see it in action by frequently polling the sensor in question's OID and logging the value. adam. Hello Monitoring two APC in-row coolers. One of them gets some weird 1.6-1.9M watts spikes every now and then. Once a day or such, without regularity. I have started to monitor the same device in Schneider Data Center Expert just to see if it's a device or monitoring issue. There's no spikes there so I do think it's something with Observium and this particular unit. The other unit is fine and no spikes there. Only difference is that the load on this one is smaller and at times down to 0. I do see that there's an option to log spikes in the config file. But not sure I can monitor a sensor with it since it says port and wants and ID. Can I debug these spikes in some way? Proper procedure in Observium for hardware replacement?

So, I had a question regarding hardware replacement. I recently replaced several Cisco 2811 routers with Cisco ISR 4331's, and kept the same host name. After the swap, I noticed I wasn't getting any graphs for data flow on the serial interfaces. I attempted running discovery on them again, and waited for a few polling cycles, but still go no data. In the end, I ended up deleting the devices completely out of Observium, including the RRD files, and re-adding. After this was done, everything showed up correctly. So, as I will be doing more of these soon, is there a specific process I should follow for these? Maybe rename the old device to a different hostname, then add the new device? The historical data wasn't critical, so I'm not too bothered losing it, but I would like to avoid it if possible. Thanks, Derek

Apps graphs in Observium

Hello. I am using Observium to monitor two postfix servers. However the APPS summary site, does not show the postfix graph. From what i can gather it seems that there is a mismatch in what application name the apps overview page uses and the apps subpage for the individual server. i.e. the postfix server app subpage calls http://observium.my.server.bla/graphs/to=1465199547/id=10/type=applicat ion_postfix_sent/from=1465113147/ and the apps overview calls: http://observium.monitor.srv.aau.dk/graphs/to=1465199603/from=146511320 3/legend=no/type=application_postfix_mailgraph_sent/id=10/ if i remove the "mailgraph" part form the last link the correct graph shows. I've tried to add the postfix application to the "includes/definitions/apps.inc.php with no luck. Is there a way to update the RRD file, so i do not have to delete it and loose the historical data from the other parts that i monitor? Rancid integration - Cannot see old versions anymore

Hi, Hopefully this will be a simple question and I've just misconfigured something, anyway.. We have rancid working great before, and when you go to the Config tab, it showed you the latest configuration, as well as the configuration revision history. However after upgrading the server to Jessie (probably unrelated but seemed to break a couple weeks around this time), we now only see the latest config only and not the history anymore? We have these settings; $config['rancid_configs'][] = "/var/lib/rancid/observium/configs/"; $config['rancid_ignorecomments'] = 0; And we have done this; http://www.observium.org/docs/rancid/ It all works, just only shows the most recent? Recent Events timestamps

Hi all I've just migrated our Observium installation over to a PHP7 based install (much quicker than the PHP5 based install so far). Everything seems fine except for the Recent Events list on the front page - the "time" counter since the event occurred has started getting stuck at 0 seconds for some reason, but the tooltip that pops up when you mouse over the 0s timestamps shows the correct time that the event occurred at. Is PHP7 a no-no for Observium at this point? - Jacob Bisby

Yes, you are right ☺ So ok, the Ports menu shows the groups that contain ports group and we have two groups menu now (Globe, Ports). :) Sorry. But in this case I think the Ports -> Groups has to be the default value is the “Port”. Like in the Globe->Groups there is the “All” is the default value. But nothing in the Ports->Groups. It shows nothing until I press the “Port” on this page. Hello We used the 7793. Added 3 group with interface sum in the Ports menu. Later add 2 sensors group there. The Ports menu shows 3 member, but there was 5. (3 interface, 2 sensors). If we click to the Sensors we see our sensors groups. Now we upgraded to 7900. We see the Group in the Ports menu AND the first menu too! The first menu shows 5, the Ports shows 3 groups. Click on the first menu’s groups: shows all 5 groups. Great ☺ Click on the Ports menu’s group: shows nothing. But there if I click to the “ALL”, it shows 5 groups (3 interfaces, 2 sensors). Laszlo

Routers (we have this on several) are Juniper MX5. Analysis of the logs reveals that nothing has moved on the bgp side, no flap, no event, peers are steady. I have no idea if it matters whenever i change the type from "server" to "firewall", does it apply other MIB's to the device? Thanks Adam, that worked. The strange thing is when I run ./discovery.php -h all It enumerates hundreds of network devices by IP that aren’t listed in /etc/hosts, but for some reason it doesn’t populate them all in the web GUI > Devices, so I guess I have to write something that converts all those IP’s to hostnames and adds them all to /etc/hosts, which seems hard. Am I missing something? Does the enterprise version resolve IP’s? Discards reporting incorectly

Hi, We have noticed an interesting problem where on all of our OpenBSD firewalls, every single interface on the same firewall reports the same discards rate. We would like to try and work out which interface these discards are actually happening on, so we can work out what the cause is and check for a possible remedy (wrong VLANs being trunked through for example). If they are bad checksums, than that's ok. But would like to know ;) Below is a screenshot showing the "Errors" graphs for all ports on the same server, notice how they are all displaying the same data. My thoughts of how to start are; What is the SNMP OID being polled for this information? I wonder if OpenBSD is incorrectly reporting the same value on all interfaces, or if there is only a single Discards counter/OID for the whole system, or if it is an Observium problem etc.. So if anyone can tell me the OID, I can do some more investigation first ;) I don't mind setting up OID mappings in SNMPD etc, if that is required I would be happy to provide a configuration template for Observium and OpenBSD. And I also wonder how up to date the OpenBSD MIB file built into Observium is? Thanks in advance for your help :) Kind regards, Andy.

Missing BGP Peers

Afternoon, Before I open a ticket with JTAC, I have a Juniper MX router that currently displays no BGP peer data (it used to once upon a time). I ran ./poller.php -h <device_id> -m bgp-peers –d against it and got the attached output. Could someone run their eyes over the log and see if they agree and if so where do I need to look next in order to resolve this issue? Alert Checker options

Hi All Is there a way of removing a subset of device names from the alert checker configs, i.e. !somename.* * or NOT EQUAL somename.* * or similar so if there are devices that I want to graph, but dont care if they are up or down. Which brings me to another point I guess, is there a way of not showing certain things on the dashboard or diminishing the value / time of a notified device, I dont need to know about a rebooted device for 24 hours, also is there are 2 or 3 errors on an interface I may not need to know about them, and as per above I may only want to graph traffic on a device if it is up, and dont need to know if it isnt up

Alerting debugging

Hi All, I was wondering if there is any way of debugging pushover alerts? We have an entry in the alert log about the "Alert notification sent". The message was never delivered (we use Pushover), and the Application info in the Pushover interface doesn't say there was any message attempted. How to debug it? Hi All our subscription ran out yesterday and we forgot to change our card details so our subscription wasn’t renewed I’ve clicked the modify button on our subscription on the subs page and updated our details now what do i do? how long does it take? the is another button at the bottom of the page saying 'Purchase Subscription' and I’m worried if i do that ill get a new user and pass OR be charged twice also the is no contact information on the Observium website hense why I’m having to email the General list instead Regards Simon
