95th graph mismatch

Hi Adam, I have an issue measuring 95 percentile interface using two different methods. If I go to the Port page for a specific interface and select a date range for example from 2015-07-01 00:00:00 to 2015-08-01 00:00:00 the 95 % for IN traffic is 563.87M Meanwhile if i take the same measure using the traffic accounting for this interface the 95% is 685M There is something I ain't understand? Device Not able to Add

Hello All, I am not able to add 2 devices. These are the longest distance & latency devices in our network 124 ms. I wonder if latency have any play while adding the device. Other than these devices I can add almost all other device. Below is the command which I am trying to use to add the device. I saw a comment in "includes/geolocation.inc.php" about sorting the difference between county and states. I was looking cause i'd like a cleaner looking location menu. so i hijacked a device on the test system and changed it's location to "10 Downing St, London SW1A 2AA, United Kingdom" I see that we have different results depending on who we ask. Geolocation (MAPQUEST) -> [51.503440, -0.127708] United Kingdom (Country), England (State), Unknown (County), London (City) Geolocation (GOOGLE) -> [51.503363, -0.127625] United Kingdom (Country), Unknown (State), Greater London (County), London (City) So a few questions. 1) Is google preferred (especially for people who have sites in a Country that has Counties). 2) Are people happy to have Counties and States on the same level in the menu. 3) Are there countries that have BOTH Counties and States or are they mutually exclusive. 4) Do people need/want the double name entries on the last location menu (two pictures attached to show the difference for what i mean). I have a simple system with ony 38 locations. People may have lots more where this has an advantage. New Statuses Bar Overview Page - shows alerts

Hi All after a recent update there was the Statuses Overview addedd. (I currently run 6812) As of now I see 12 alerts which all translate to Fan State of Brocade Switches and Routers. Please see the attached screenshot. The top two are Brocade CER routers. All devices below are Brocade FCX624. How can I debug this further? Or how can I disable this statuses alert? Thanks Basile

Question about aggregated traffic graph for Dell DRAC

Hi, i have some Dell DRAC's added to observium, and i am seeing some strange things. The aggegrated graph from the overview page of the device gives an error "error Drawing graph". However the individual graphs per port are created just fine. the poller.php -d doesn't give any errors that i can see. Another question is probably about all the metrics received from DRAC, i have a few OSses that have the Dell ISM (Integrated Service Module) installed. This allows the NIC's from the OS to be seen in the DRAC web interface. Would observium be able to read these ports as wel? Tnx! Steffie

Qestion about VLANs tab on switch page

Hi, i also have a question about the VLANs tab for switches. Why are a lot of switchports displayed being a member of VLAN1? because i don't think these ports are in vlan1? On the Ports page for different model switches, there are also differences. For cisco it is able to display the (untagged) vlan, but for some switch vendors it will say in text Dot1Q. Perhaps because the vendor will return a native and a untagged vlan (even if they are the same?) Just trying to understand what i am looking at, and how the interpret :)

incomplete inventory in Synology NAS?

In the main overview i see there are 8 disks in the system, but in the inventory tab only 5 numbered items are listed. observium stopped graphing

Configuring map interface on new observium installation

Hi, I have just installed & configured observium for the first time. The first two devices are added and seems working, but I'm having problem displaying these devices on the map. All the time there is a blue sign on the middle on Atlantic ocean, it doesn't matter what I configure as device location. Please any idea how to configure the map? I have tried all the possible configurations at /opt/observium/config.php settings but with no success. This installation is behind a proxy server, but I have allowed all the traffic from observium host and I don't see any traffic from this host towards proxy server. I did the following configuration on monitored devices for SNMP settings as follow: R_TR#sh run | s snmp snmp-server community aaaaaaa RO snmp-server ifindex persist snmp-server location Berlin, DE snmp-server contact bbbbbbbbbb at Observium main page, at location tab, is listed Berlin, DE (or Rome, IT another device) but no indication on the map for both devices. regarding proxy server configuration, at \opt\observium\config.php file I have the following settings: //configure proxy server settings $config['http proxy'] = "myproxy:8080"; with no username and password, because I have allowed all the traffic from observium host and it has internet access, because I did manually update and it worked normally. Please could you send me a sample of a working map configuration? "A lot of ports": Error Drawing Graph

Hi all, my problem is, that a few overall traffic graphs aren‘t displayed, since updating from r6722 (2015-07-21) to r6766. This only occurs with devices that have more than about 100 ports. (These are not incredibly many ports, but in this case the problem occurs in this magnitude.) I tried to update the device by discovery.php and poller.php without success. The debugging message (&debug=1) says that the rrd command fails: RRD_STATUS[FALSE]. When i copy the RRD-Cmd and execute it within the shell, it works fine. Interestingly, for a device with 98 ports the problem occurs only for the large graphs shown (as can be seen in the attached screenshot grapherror.png). Has anyone of you an idea? Restrict config access to users

We've got rancid integration turned on, and I want to give specific users access to see devices, but they shouldn't be able to see the device configs. Design idea

Before we spend to much time setting something up I want to make sure that I was on the right track. We have many wireless ubnt unifi APs and there snmp on the APs themselves sucks. But the wireless controller does have a nice API what print out a json output listing every client connect to AP managed by the controller. The json has the mac, connection time, connection duration, AP currently connection to and much more. The idea is to use the unix/linux agent on the controller to connection to API on localhost and download json and clean data up. The observium can poll the unix agent and chart/display the data. Is this crazy or am I on the right track.

Need more info about Observium and IPMI

Hello Observium community, I am using Observium Professional version and I have some computers that only support IPMI protocol and not SNMP. Observium's wiki is very ambiguous and there is not enough information about usage of IPMI in Observium. Did anyone manage to successfully use IPMI together with Observium? It would be very nice to get more information about this and maybe even a guide on how you add a device that only supports IPMI protocol. Best regards, Henry Collins

Scheduled downtime or maintence

Hi, Ive got a customer location that they have to reboot machines nightly (old Asterisk boxes that have not been upgraded yet), and so obviously this throws a wrench in on alerts. Im not seeing anything in the documentation to where you can schedule downtime or maintenance, like Nagios let's say does. One thing I thought of was disable the poller during this window, then enable it back with a script, pretty janky but that would work for now. Is this something planned on the roadmap and have others shown any interest in this? Thanks

ARP Table Broken?

When I run poller.php manually it does pull the information. Question about traffic graphs

Hi, My data center bills me based on 95th percentile and Mbps, but Observium shows traffic as bits/second. My monthly allowance is 100Mbps, how would I convert that to the bits/second in 95th? They also state they bill me on bandwidth utilization, not data used. Finally, they state they use 5 minute intervals for data collection, I guess that's also called 'polling' if I'm not mistaken? I could not find any info on how often the data is collected. Just to clarify, if I got the calculation right - 100Mbps = 30TB /mo (rounded off).

RRD graphs legend

Hi All! I was thinking whether there is some way to make the graphs more user friendly. I am talking about aggregated RRDTool graphs that have more data lines in it. One example (as seen in the attached screenshot) is the typical filesystem usage graph of a linux host, that has a legend below it, but as the colors are not quite unique (at more than 5-6 data lines some colors will overlap inevitably) you can't really find out which line is which. If you want to find out which data line has that glitch that you saw in the aggregated graph, there is no other way than looking at each data separately. Is there a way/plan to overcome this limitation? Regards, Tylla

OVS integration plugin for observium available?

Hi, Is there any plugin for observium to monitor traffic that's being handled by a OpenVswitch? We have built an openstack-environment and it's built on openvswitch with neutron, I would love to see the integration to be able to see traffic on OVS-ports. The only option we have today is going zenoss monitoring, from what i've found out there on google atleast. If there's no solution for this I would suggest someone building one as the lack of monitoring openstack and virtualswitches are big. Thanks /Tobias

I attempted the rancid integration from the configuration options. I had a separate rancid configuration that I attempted to modify following the guide that seems to have broken my rancid. Please help. Hi, I just wanted to say that Observium rocks. Having just completed 4 weeks of back-to-back network upgrades (replacing most of our core hardware across 4 different sites) we have found Observium invaluable as a means of identifying issues, immediately, for new hardware which has just been installed. As well as spotting BGP sessions with issues, ports with CRC errors, or light levels which are out of scope. Requiring the least information from us, for the most detailed output back to us in return, coupled with a summary of ‘what needs to be fixed’ in a single page. printing page looks weird

Hi All, wondered if anyone has seen there printing page to look like this? for some reason I have the Toner graphs first then the Toner table underneath, but under that again is the Pagecounter and Waste Toner Box ? the page looks laid out weird and incorrectly ? what also weird is the toners for my Ricoh MP C400 is all showing as -nan% ??? and the levels as -3% or -2% i have included screenshot showing what i mean Regards Simon

Hello all, I’d like to thank the developers of Observium, whomever you are. I’ve run up a VMWare Ubuntu server 14.x with Observium to replace an ageing and unsupported Cacti installation here. We're running Many(TM) core, distribution and edge routers and switches and this install is looking at every port I can get SNMP to. We use Enterasys/Extreme and a couple of Cisco devices. The alpha prototype has moved to beta and people here are liking what they are seeing. Soon, with some more documentation, I’ll elevate this to production. So, whilst I have hundreds of switches to deal with, this means thousands of ports to deal with and as any good lazy administrator, I found it was easier to utilise my database development experience and go straight to the databases, which I now offer to the group as examples, yes Examples(TM) for others to learn from. You will require some database knowledge to grok these. Alert emails header

Hi all, Since last update of observium professional version that we did last monday, alert emails are not anymore accepted by our mailing list service (based on Sympa software). After investigations by our mail system administrator, it seems that problem is coming from fields ordering in observium mails header: "From", "Date" et "Message-ID" should be before others fields prefixed by "X-". Another problem is that email address in "From" field should be between "< >". Example of mail generated by observium here: http://pastebin.com/tiJFG10e If we modify this example like this http://pastebin.com/DryMB9MJ, it's correctly delivered by our mailing list service. I suppose that some modifications have been done in observium mail system in last weeks because it's a very new problem for us. New install testing

I am testing this product. I have only one device which successful added. Everything looks good but for the fact that I see no output on the graphs. They are blank. I’ve seen some replies that say “You installed incorrectly.” Do I need to just go through the installation steps again? Or is there a better way to address what I missed? Thank you, Ryan

Do we need to purchase Professional membership to enable that function? I believe its GBK 150 per year . First CE installation: Authentication issues

Hi!, I just upgraded my home test installation from old SVN version to CE edition and I'm having issues authenticating with http-auth. On the first try I get my own AuthName which has a value of "testing lab" but once I input the authentication info I get another box asking for authentication, with a new AuthName with value "Unauthorised access or use shall render the user liable to criminal and/or civil prosecution.". Can anybody tell me if authentication changed sin the single version times?. Reporting

Your software gets better and better. The metrics are wonderful but I spend a lot of time screenshotting them to send to our executives. Can you put a print button in? Or, even better, CRON a print job to send say a week/month/day’s worth of bandwidth on a specific port or server to an email address? That would be amazing. Or, is that something we could pay for and have added to the version(s) for everyone? I’m on subscription if that matters.

Problems adding hosts

I’m having troubles adding devices recently. In the add host page, it shows blue for SNMP an looks like it’s been added but below that it says that it can’t ping the host. I can SSH to the server and both ping and snmpwalk work. Any ideas?

GeoLocation slightly off?

Hello Community, I've read through the archives and I've got my geo-location sysLocation string working. What I cannot find an answer on is why the Latitude/Longitude insists on being slightly different from the actual co-ordinteas that I specify. As you can see in the screen shot, Observium parses the SysLocation fine and passes the exact correct values to MAPQUEST. Where do the slightly incorrect values come from? Thanks for any help guys. Hello, I try to find the best solution for add custom alerting for Linux with observium. As for now it's not possible to use xinetd with new alert system, i wonder how i can add properly custom data that's will be graph and avaible in checker conditions. I would like add a simple test as custom script that's will download a http page and return 0 if failed or a value in ms for time to download the page. Will add the script in snmpd.conf. Infiniband adapter on linux hosts

Hi all, I would like to know if any of you have been able to monitor Infiniband traffic on Linux hosts with Observium. I have added some nodes with Mellanox cards (MT27500 [ConnectX-3]) to Observium but it seems to see them only when they are configured for Ethernet traffic. I have no issue monitoring Infiniband switches (mostly Mellanox SX6012 ) but is there a way to display Infiniband traffic from a Linux box in Observium ? Best regards, Louis

Dual Purpose Interface

2960X switches and newer styles of switches have dual speed SFP slots. On my 2960X I have switched from 1GIG SFP to a 10GIG SFP. This changes the ports from GigabitEthernet to TenGigabitEthernet. In the switch config now the GigabitEthernet ports are gone (they get removed from running config) and now TenGigabit Ports are present and in use. Observium still shows both types of interfaces present, and there is none to delete under ports. It also doesn’t show that the TenGig port is up even though it is up. Whats the best way to handle this? Delete/re-add switch? New 6500-E Module

After adding a new 6500 module to multiple Cisco 6504-E (added WS-6816-10G) the module shows up in Observium after being polled as expected. The issue is the module isn’t being updated. Ports that are up are showing as disable/down it is also not drawing graphs as its not seeing it as up. The port is actually up and passing traffic but that is not being reflected in Observium. The only thing that fixes this is deleting/re-adding the device. Smokeping tab missing from Observium

We're running 0.15.7.6605 of Observium, and our smokeping tab has recently disappeared. We could rollback to see what version it vanished from, but I wanted to reach out first. Auto Discovery/Automate adding devices.

Hello Team, Please can you assist me with the auto discovery. It's not working... :) I read in a mailing list archive dated Nov 2014, that it actually doesn't work? Is this still the case? Can I write my own script that adds devices from the backend? Should I use an API call or can I insert into the database directly? Further to that, 1. What happens if I try to add the same device again? Thinking from an automated system, the same hostname might have multiple interfaces that it is reachable on? 2. What happens if we change a device's host name - does observium create a new device? What is best practice when administering the system wrt device swop outs or hostname changes? Regards, Rudolf

Hi everyone, I can´t access our new test installation. I don’t have any Apache knowledge and I guess that´s where the problem lays. I tried to create a vHost, as well as I tried to follow the instructions from the how to page regarding /etc/apache2/sites-available/default <Directory /opt/observium/html/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Require all granted </Directory> Without any success.
