Large number of defunct shell processes

Hello. We're running Pro build 6606 on an Ubuntu 14.04 machine. I'm consistently seeing large (>100) numbers of defunct processes lingering on the box. E.g.: ... www-data 31956 32711 0 14:09 ? 00:00:00 [sh] <defunct> www-data 32623 17403 0 11:37 ? 00:00:00 [sh] <defunct> www-data 32641 23519 0 11:37 ? 00:00:00 [sh] <defunct> www-data 32661 23519 0 11:37 ? 00:00:00 [sh] <defunct> Can anybody shed some light on why these are hanging around and what to do? Infiniband adapter on linux hosts

Hi all, I would like to know if any of you have been able to monitor Infiniband traffic on Linux hosts with Observium. I have added some nodes with Mellanox cards (MT27500 [ConnectX-3]) to Observium but it seems to see them only when they are configured for Ethernet traffic. I have no issue monitoring Infiniband switches (mostly Mellanox SX6012 ) but is there a way to display Infiniband traffic from a Linux box in Observium ? Best regards, Louis

Dual Purpose Interface

2960X switches and newer styles of switches have dual speed SFP slots. On my 2960X I have switched from 1GIG SFP to a 10GIG SFP. This changes the ports from GigabitEthernet to TenGigabitEthernet. In the switch config now the GigabitEthernet ports are gone (they get removed from running config) and now TenGigabit Ports are present and in use. Observium still shows both types of interfaces present, and there is none to delete under ports. It also doesn’t show that the TenGig port is up even though it is up. Whats the best way to handle this? Delete/re-add switch? New 6500-E Module

After adding a new 6500 module to multiple Cisco 6504-E (added WS-6816-10G) the module shows up in Observium after being polled as expected. The issue is the module isn’t being updated. Ports that are up are showing as disable/down it is also not drawing graphs as its not seeing it as up. The port is actually up and passing traffic but that is not being reflected in Observium. The only thing that fixes this is deleting/re-adding the device. Smokeping tab missing from Observium

Observium team and community, My apologies if this has been pointed out, but I didn't see it in the most recent e-mails for the mailing list. We're running 0.15.7.6605 of Observium, and our smokeping tab has recently disappeared. We could rollback to see what version it vanished from, but I wanted to reach out first. Dear today's person who asked to be unsubscribed from a mailing list that has an unsubscribe function baked into it, Don't be that guy, guy. Here's a handy dandy guide for you and everyone else who's brain is gradually formulating a thought about this topic, before we get another raft of "I TOO WOULD LIKE TO BE UNSUBSCRIBED FROM RECEIVING THESE MESSAGES IN MY COMPUSERVE I DO NOT WANT ANY VIAGRA" emails like last time this happened. Q1: Have you *tried* to unsubscribe yourself? If no: There's a link at the bottom of every email you've received from this list (hint: http://postman.memetic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/observium ), and at the bottom of the page that results from clicking on that link is a section that you will likely find relevant to your interests. Like most sane/legitimate mailing lists, the List-Unsubscribe header is also set in the mail headers of every message you receive via this mailing list: List-Unsubscribe: <http://postman.memetic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/options/observium> - which takes you to a specific unsubscribe page. If you don't know your mailman password, reset it. The button to do that, is like, right there, maaaaan. If yes: Proceed to Q2, brave traveller. Steel yourself, the next step possibly requires reading message headers. Grab a Snickers (DISCLAIMER: Ask your doctor if Snickers is right for you). Q2: Have you checked you're trying to unsubscribe the address you actually are receiving mail for? Perhaps you're receiving mail for an alias rather than your pimary mailbox address? The message headers should tell you what this is if you can't see it any other way (look for "for <email(a)address.org>" in a "Received:" header close to you). If no: Check, and if necessary, unsubscribe again, but with the right address this time. If yes: Congratulations! You are possibly a special snowflake and possibly have an actual problem that possibly requires someone else's help, possibly, and you should have provided all this information up front to prevent being ridiculed... except you're still telling a bunch of people who can do nothing to help you. Mail the list administrator directly (who's contact email you can find on the above mentioned pages) telling them what you've tried to do, and what the email address is that is receiving the mails from the list, and then they can help you. Adam loves to help. It's practically his middle name. By now, you have now successfully unsubscribed from a mailing list.. unless Adam doesn't like you and is keeping you on the list just to torment you for some sick twisted reason (less common than you might think). A+ super great job! Auto Discovery/Automate adding devices.

Hello Team, Please can you assist me with the auto discovery. It's not working... :) I read in a mailing list archive dated Nov 2014, that it actually doesn't work? Is this still the case? Can I write my own script that adds devices from the backend? Should I use an API call or can I insert into the database directly? Further to that, 1. What happens if I try to add the same device again? Thinking from an automated system, the same hostname might have multiple interfaces that it is reachable on? 2. What happens if we change a device's host name - does observium create a new device? What is best practice when administering the system wrt device swop outs or hostname changes? Regards, Rudolf
