modify device overview

I was wondering if there is a way that the device overview screen can be modified so that we see the syslog-alerts instead of the full syslog? Also can this be added to the main overview screen as well? Thanks in advance!

Adding a ptpd application to unix-agent

Hi, I have been playing with ptpd on my network to see how it behaves compared to ntp. I really like the observium monitoring of ntp. I use Observium CE 0.16.10.8128 (6th October 2016) on FreeBSD 10.3 & 11.0 So, I had a crack at implementing ptpd as an application for unix-agent guided by http://observium.org/docs/developing/add_app/ which says: “• RRD formats are defiend in includes/definitions/rrdtypes.inc.php” But this doesn’t exist in my installation and I am suspecting config['rrd_types'] is defined in includes/definitions/definitions.dat which I don’t know how to read. So when polling the servers with ptpd, I get this error: “Cannot create RRD for type ptpd-slave - not found in definitions!” Is there anyway I can get past this? Or is this something I shouldn’t be doing? Authentication log bug

Hi Adam and team, We found a bug in the authentication log this evening. One of our guys tried logging in to our Observium but couldn't remember his username. However, when he tried logging in he used an uppercase letter in his username, and it still allocated the attempted login to his user account, even though Observium uses case-sensitive usernames and the attempted login would be different from his actual user account - his username is "lee", but he (incorrectly) tried "Lee". Testing with my own account shows that any username with the same spelling will show up under that account, even though the users are not the same. Kind regards, Alex

AVTech devices

Just purchased the Pro version of Observium (damn good looking stuff) and am running 0.16.12.8292. Looking at the JIRA, I understand that AVTech devices are a pain due to the way the vendor writes the MIB. Nonetheless, their equipment and expandability is good, and they do provide SNMP data that can be harvested. I've purchased, and intend to standardize on the 12E model of the device. I see that the 4E and the 24E are Observium supported devices (to some degree). Who can I hire to get the 12E inserted supported by Observium at the current MIB version as provide by AVTech? Moving Observium

So I have my new CentOS7 system ready to go, moving from a CentOS6 VM. I thought I'd found it before, but I can't find instructions for moving observium to a different system (same x86_64 architecture). I can move the RRDs, but isn't there more to it, like migrating mysql data? I've looked through the documentation. Perhaps I'm just looking for the wrong text. Any links someone can point to, or instructions for moving from one host to another? Thanks. Bill

Question about port tags.

Hi guys, I have two ports in my environment with some tags on it. Observium recognizes it as a Customer and some other details. But the thing is; one port is a stacking port without label (1/2/3, what you don't see), and the other one is disabled and also without a label. Maybe I overlooked something. Never created the labels in the first place. The question: how can I clean this up? Observium Polling via SSH

Hi All, I have an environment that uses Observium but a lot of our systems that we need to keep track of and poll are having ICMP echo requests turned off which makes polling a little difficult. So after making backup copies of the files I am starting to make a module that polls via SSH. Currently it's in the "works under conditions X" stage and I had to bake it into some of the includes code (hence the copies). I guess my main question is this something anyone is interested in being submitted as an option? I'm currently working on the ability to make it more of an automated process, and set up a flag that toggles whether the poller works with ping or ssh. But, if this is so niche that it's not really something cares about then cool, but I thought I would ask in case it could be a useful feature to add for others? And, if it is something that might seem useful then if there's a preferred method of adding it over putting it directly into the existing code I'm perfectly willing to go that route instead so I'm not messing with anyone's flow. Error

First time I've seen this. It showed up once today, and once on 24 Nov. I would expect an error like this to happen every time this ran or not at all. What is this? Executable '/opt/observium/poller-wrapper.py' doesn't belong to any package and ProcessUnpackaged is set to 'no'
