Juniper port polling problems

Hi, I have observium 0.16.1.7533. It has problems with two machines: Juniper mx240 with JunOS 15.1R2 and Juniper EX4550-32F with JunOS 12.3R12.4. This devices very slow polling ports information. Here I found the same problem: http://jira.observium.org/browse/OBSERVIUM-1695 <http://jira.observium.org/browse/OBSERVIUM-1695> But there it is written that "junipers have functionally broken SNMP stacks". Is there any solution to this issue? Are there any special settings or modules for JunOS ? Thanks.

Optic dbm alert checker and interface status

Hi, Is there a way to only trigger the dbm sensor alert if the corresponding interface is up? I thought I could get away with just testing if the sensor values fall outside the sensor limits. But when ports are down (even when unplugged) I get spiky readings which will trigger the alert. So it would be nice to check if the interface is up as part of the alert check. I suspect this isn't possible as things are right now. It seems sensors have no relationship to another entity (e.g a port on a router). Ideally, I would like to say something like this: Port Checker Condition ifOperStatus eq up sensors.dbm.juniper-dom-rx.sensor_value < @sensors.dbm.juniper-dom-rx.sensor_limit_low Port Checker Entity Match ifAdminStatus eq up dbm in sensor_classes juniper-dom-rx in sensor_types So only ports that are admin up and have an associated sensor type of the appropriate type would get added to the checker. This will ensure the condition will be able to refer to the appropriate sensor. This would imply there is some mapping/relationship between sensors and other entities. This is probably very MIB specific and very platform specific. But it would make for a very useful checker.

Juniper SRX1500 firewall questionable CPU OIDs used

Hello, I have Juniper SRX1500 firewalls for which Observium is sending false positive CPU alerts (example included below) based on feedback from Juniper. More specifically, I was told that the OIDs used by Observium to collect CPU information are not the correct ones for this devices in particular. Here are the OIDs that I was told should be used to monitor the data plane CPU usage (instead of the standard OIDs that poll the kernel):.1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.39.1.12.1.1.1 Or more specifically for forwarding plane flow (SPU) only: .1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.39.1.12.1.1.1.3" Here is an Observium alert example: Alert Juniper Firewall CPU Usage is over 40%! Entity FPC: FEB @0/*/* Conditions processor_usage gt 40 (49) Metrics processor_usage = 49 Duration 4m 19s (2017-10-22 17:22:53) Device Device host.mine Hardware SRX1500 Operating System Juniper JunOS 15.1X49-D50.3 Internet Router Location lab Uptime 27 days, 12h 3m 4s The above alert is seen several times a day per device. I'm currently running version 17.10.8921 (Linux 2.6.32-642.13.1.el6.x86_64 [amd64]) but have seen this with different frequencies on all other versions I had. VM or Iron

Hi Everyone, We have been running a VM on Iron box for a few years and now have been noticing slowdowns in performance ( longer poll times, choppy graphs ). We are thinking of moving observium to VM. In your experience, what do you think is better way to run observium on a VM or Iron ? What are the pros and cons ? Thank you for your responses.

Hi all, just curious do I need the pro version in order to see vms on esx servers? I see in the log for the esx host its collecting vm-agent data or at least showing it, but there is nowhere I can 'see' the vms that I can find. Im wondering if its just a matter of upgrading to the pro ... Thanks

SNMP not working in fedora 22

IPsec tunnel monitor question

APC Environmental Bars no longer displaying Health Graphs

Hi all, We have 2 APC environmental management agents which we've been using to monitoring temperature and humidity. We've upgraded to 17.9.8829 (stable) this morning, however the logo for each of these devices has changed to NetBotz, instead of the normal APC one. We've lost all health related graphs, temperature/humidity probes, and all related historic data. The event log lists each of the sensor probes being deleted from the system about 7 hours after the upgrade. Other than the upgrade we've made no changes to the system. We've since rebooted each device, and even deleted and re-added one to see if the ports will get re-polled, but no luck. Anyone else experiencing anything similar? Hey there, Is there perhaps a knob that can be used to copy device properties from Device > Properties > Modules from one device to another, or better yet, if I create a group of devices, can I have all members of the group inherit the same properties? I’ve looked through the GUI and also through the available CLI scripts looking for some clues, but haven’t found anything, so perhaps there’s no such ability? Thanks!

I am currently using the latest community edition and looking to go to the professional subscription. With a Cisco ASA 9.4(3)6 and graphing the Remote Access Sessions, I am seeing odd data and it looks like others have had the same issue for a couple years now. Device taking > 5 minutes to poll

Hey all, I’ve got a device (Zhone MXK-F) with over 10,000 ports on it, and Observium is taking well over 5 minutes to poll it (upwards of 15 minutes, actually). While there isn’t a definition specifically for MXK-F, it’s getting detected as MXK. os.inc.php is setting max-rep 50, so it’s at least trying to bulk walk, but I don’t know if it’s actually working. Overriding to max-rep 100 doesn’t have an affect on the polling time. So, I guess my question is whether or not I’m on the right track in assuming that this issue is likely that of bulk walk on this device, or possibly some other issue, and how would I determine one way or the other? If it’s something that I can pinpoint, I can throw it back to the vendor to fix. From the digging I’ve done so far, all other poller processes called from poller-wrapper complete in under 5 minutes, so I’m fairly certain that this issue is one of the device, not Observium. Observium migration

Hello, I freshly installed Observer community edition. Now i need to migrate all information from old mashine to new one. I'm ready to move these things from old mashine to newone: 1)RRD Folder 2)Mysql db 3)Weathermap configuration with existing interface number (requirements is that they would be left the same). So everything should be Ok, but i noticed in older mashine i see in config.php the db configuration is without "$config['db_extension'] = 'mysqli';" like in new one. Will it's possible to get any problem because of that ? Thanks.

Session lost

Hello Weve had for quite some time problems with our Observium logins. We cant stay for more than a few seconds logged in. We have different users each with their own user/pass and the issue is the same to all of them. Realtime port monitoring is impossible because we cant stay logged in for more than 10 seconds as it says: Cant get data about port xx .. and than we have to log in again and again.. Can you help us troubleshoot this problem and fix it? Graphing OSPF neighbour count?

Hi All, Love Observium, thanks! We had an issue on Friday with an OSPF adjacency; we didn't see it for various reasons and the logs on the device aged out quickly so we don't have a historical on when it came back. We will extend the log depth and possibly ship logs centrally but that doesn't help us on this occasion. This led to me digging around in Observium to see if it had captured the neighbour flapping. The routing tab is great and even shows neighbour count, but it doesn't seem to be graphed (unless I'm overlooking it). Is this something that I could turn on somehow? Many thanks! Chris

Time has come to move the Observium from old to new mashine, do is't possible to to just copy /opt/observium from old mashine to new and make it work with all the history of graphs saved. ? Gettign SVN timeout error

Hi All, I am getting an error when I go to update. Server sent unexpected return value (408 Request Timeout) in response to OPTIONS request for 'http://svn.observium.org/svn/observium/trunk' I am looking for suggestions on troubleshooting this. I have tried: Making an outgoing rule on the firewall from my Observium server to http://svn.observium.org. Opening outgoing (and therefore, returning) Ports: 80, 443, 21, 22, 8080, 3690 None of that has made a difference. I can ping the svn server from my Observium machine, I can browse to the web page, my login credentials are correct..... ideas? Joshua Bierman

Tables in the Observium DB

First, I just took over our install of this, wasn't involved in the initial setup of observium and I understand the piece I'm asking about is not part of observium, just uses the data it collects and I want to verify if structure has changed since it was released or if there is something incorrectly setup with our system. I'm looking to build out graphviz maps with the data observium has gathered, specifically using: https://github.com/kedare/observium_map_generator Going through their code, it queries the db for the links table and fails. Looking at the database I have a neighbours table, but not links. Google search I see links table discussed back in 2014, but nothing much recently. So, did the links table go away in newer versions, or is the fact that the table is missing an issue with our setup? If it is supposed to be there and missing, I'll work on figuring that out next, if it did just go away I just want to verify that. Thanks

Bogus alerts since last CE update

Hi, on Sept 28th I updated one installation to the new CE release (17.9.0). Since then, Observium keeps sending me interface down/up alerts for every single port on every single switch and router, once every day between 11:20 am and 11:35 am (a bunch every 5 minutes). The alerts look like this: They serve to notify me if anyone connects or disconnects something in my absence. That worked well for a year or so, until I did this update. Poller wrapper history stopped working

Multiple mailing options

Hi all, We have a scenario where we'd like, for certain alerts, to not only send via the default mail settings but also to forward to an external sms portal. This particular portal is fairly simple and works via sending an email to a certain domain with a phone number prefix. We'd need to use different mail settings for this purpose though and I was wondering if someone could think of the best way to do this. I can't really find many examples for the external script or web hook transport methods, and ideally we'd be able to do most of the configuration and filtering directly within observium rather than doing the messaging logic elsewhere. syslog not working after observium rsyslog server configuration

I have observium CE addition and i recently tried for syslog integration on it as given here http://docs.observium.org/syslog/ I am able to see syslog messages in observium UI but unfortunately my syslog messages of observium machine itself are not getting logged to /var/log/syslog . please some one help me here. Graphs not rendering correctly

Hi all, Seem to be having a problem with the graphs on my new install (CE). See the example below: As you can see there are regular gaps in the display. I am wondering if this might have something to do with a polling cycle etc? not sure where to start investigating so any suggestions are welcome. p2p radio detection

Howdy, We noticed not that long ago that Ubiquity devices gained p2p radio detection. Is there any consideration for Ubutiks (Ubiquity RF + Microtik routerboard)? We have a number of these and the device_state array contains the p2p radio info just like the Ubiquity radios do. Discovery put the ubutiks into the network category like a normal mikrotik. Hi there! I would like to request CARP-MIB and PF-MIB support in Observium. Most importantly show if the CARP interfaces are master or backup. So we can get alerted. Maybe show it in the same way as Cisco ASA Active/Passive or some other better suited as you can have an arbitrary amount of CARP interfaces. And then the ability to graph the statistics from PF-MIB. Preferred MTA?

Hey all, I've been trying to get Observium to send alerts to my Exchange server. Wireshark on Exchange shows nothing so I just gave up, looked online and found a post from Adam saying to not use SMTP; he recommended using an MTA instead. Does Observium have a preferred MTA? Any to watch out for? Issue with Search Function in BGP Sessions

Hello! I ran into a little issue today. If I am on page two of the BGP session list and search for a remote AS the search always comes up with an empty list. I guess this is caused by the "pageno=2" in the URL: http://x.x.x.x/routing/protocol=bgp/graph=NULL/view=details/pagination=1/pa…... CentOS 7.4?

Anyone upgrade their installation from CentOS7.3 to 7.4? I needed that upgrade on other systems due to some patches that wouldn't be released to 7.3. I've had no issues with 7.4, so I'm wondering if anyone has run into Observium related problems with 7.4? It only came out officially in the last few days, so it may be too early to ask.

Geolocation detection improvement

Hello We are constantly running into issues with the geolocation service and the automated detection of the coordinates – people tend to set additional information in the sysLocation which finally cause the geo api’s to fail. I would like to suggest a small format / code change here to make the geo location detection more usable and reliable. Hi, I have 6 VMWare ESXi hosts monitored and when I go in the Devices section under Virtual machines, a lot of them are showing multiple times in the list. New error after update to latest SVN (stable branch)

Hi Observium List, We updated Observium to the latest svn stable branch today. I made sure we had ran the update, so it shows that everything is up to date, including the database. We found that we ran into a snag when adding new users to the system via the web interface. I was able to add the user via the adduser.php script, but it's missing some data. When I went to go edit it, it logged the same error. Here are the excerpts of the errors below, one for adding the user, and one for editing the user added via adduser.php. One more for the customOID topic

So I also upgraded to the latest and got the autodiscovery on custom OIDs. Didn't have the best effect on my system as it mapped hundreds of individual Isilon nodes to a long range of custom OIDs I had created. So lessons learned / feature requests : - Previously one could pick (one by one or multi select) the devices to be covered in a specific custom OID. THis option seems to have gone now. I'd like that option back, or alternatively be able to somehow filter or group devices. I also use the combined line or stack graphs for certain things and sometime need to show just a group of devices and not all. Right now with the new version I can only show either a single device or all devices as I cannot create custom OID groups and then narrow down what devices to show there. - On systems like Isilon where you may want to both have cluster wide data (so polling the cluster alias) but also monitor each node in the cluster, the lack of the above mentioned filtering/grouping is a problem as currently the custom OID will only work for me if I delete all individual nodes and only monitor the cluster alias. On the other hand, now Servertech Sentry4 devices are better supported, so the net outcome of the upgrade was still positive for me. /Jesper

Feature idea: custom graphs

Prior to the recent changes to Custom OIDs (r8738~r8741) we had been abusing the feature to create custom graphs containing multiple hosts. For example we had a graph of emails delivered that combined all of our email servers in one. Now with OID discovery added and manual association removed that graph goes from 20 hosts to 600 and is no longer very useful. I think moving some of the previous functionality of Custom OIDs into it's own Custom Graph feature would be very useful and welcome feedback on the idea. Hi All Is the is a way to delete a device from a Custom OIDs? I use a custom oid to display hotspot users logged in via mikrotiks at 2 sites, however I’ve just seen the OID page has had an update and is showing ALL(12) of our mikrotik devices? I only want to show 2 of our devices!? Regards Simon

tp-link uptime

Hi All Im not sure if its Observium or TP-Link I should be asking really but ill ask in both places? Observium told me, one of our switches rebooted (which seemed odd as nobody can gain physical access to it) I checked observium and that shows an uptime of 16h 20m 30s When I snmpwalk the switch I can see DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (5883922) 16:20:39.22 But the TP-Link web panel shows RunTime: 332 day - 2 hour - 2 min - 39 sec ??? Any suggestions would be helpful :) Regards Simon

Hello, Currently Eurofiber is testing Observium in our live network. So far it runs smooth. We only have 1 problem. The graphs are empty (-nan). My guess its a config.php error but im not sure. Hi, I've been recommended a PDU by CyberPower model: PDU15SWHVIEC8FNET and was wondering about the support if-at-all in Observium. Already I have had a bad experience with Eaton and switching to APC was much better. Front page graphs

Hi, I made a fresh install 2-3 week ago. I added mini graphs on the frontpage. It worked out for 2 weeks fine, but now the graph are incomplete. Like no data is received from the device which is an HP Procurve network switch. See image, between August 18 and 24 nothing on the graph. Dears, in my Observium, i have about 80M records in the Syslog message. When i want to access it via Observium - Syslog page, it take about 10-15 minutes. My HW is : 8 GB RAM, 8 cores, HyperV Would you be so kind to let me know, how can i tune it ? Also the other pages of Observium are quite slow Thank you

Blank Screen After Login

Hello, I’ve made a fresh install of Observium and during the initial setup I was using the mysql authentication type. After adding a few data sources (devices), I’ve switched to Radius authentication. In my config.php, I’ve added/changed these lines: $config['auth_mechanism'] = "radius"; $config['auth_radius_server'] = array(‚1.2.3.4'); $config['auth_radius_port'] = 1812; $config['auth_radius_secret'] = 'top_secret'; $config['auth_radius_method'] = 'PAP'; $config['auth_radius_groupmemberattr'] = 'Filter-Id'; $config['auth_radius_groups']['super_admin']['level'] = 10; $config['auth_radius_groups'][’user']['level'] = 7; The authentication works very well, but after logging in, I’m getting only an empty page an empty page. Hello, I'm trying to get a custom logo working on my install with a png file. Dear all, Currently we are looking into the different option to get data from NSX Edge devices. Since snmp is not available on them we used the api to get the statistic information. Currently we store those values in a database. We would like to know what would be the best way to import this data into observium. Our goal is to have a generic solution that we can use for all kinds of data gathered from devices without snmp. We are also willing to contribute this to the observium community. >From what I have seen we have several options: 1. using an agent to provide the data on the agent port. 2. write an application. Customer Records Missing on rebuild

Hi - I did a full rebuild of Observium and restored the database. I previously had the ability to view 'Customers'. I can still see the Customers item in the Ports drop down but there are no entries. I can see that there are no records in the Customers table in the db. Since the customers were generated by polling the devices I thought this might just be a short term problem however after nearly 24 hours there are still no customer entries. I am wondering if I have missed something in the config or if perhaps this is because I have only installed the community edition initially whereas we had previously used the subscription edition including the traffic accounting functionality? Not sure where to start investigating the issue so would appreciate any suggestions. Cheers Mal

Server port description

Hi Guys, What effect does the “Server:” port description have “inside” observium - I can’t see anything. Can we get a server tab under the ports menu perhaps ? Found bug? in p2p_radios poller / discovery

Hello I am running Observium 17.7.8697 (stable), I also tried rolling but seem to have the same issue I noticed some radios on our network did not have the P2P radio tab while others did, in some cases these where identical radios with identical firmware. Hi all, We have a requirement for some IPv6 IPSLA instances on an ASR9k. Can't say this has ever come up before, but anyway, it appears that the IPv6 target IPs don't show up (thousand words below): Is this a known issue (ie. Cisco failing to send it) or did we find a bug? Interestingly, the actual 'result' latency data is all there (and correct) but somewhat difficult to comprehend without the target IP :) Cheers! VRF defined by route-target not route-distinguisher

Hi All, Just wondering if there is a way to use route-target to define our VRF's on observium instead of RD. We use route reflector's and therefore have a need for different RD's on each PE for the same VRF. However this means that we get 10 or so VRF's listings for the same VRF. Ideally we would just flip it to be RT if possible. (we use, Juniper MX, Cisco Nexus, Cisco IOS) Any feedback massively appreciated. Only had OBS running for just over a week and hugely impressed. syslog alert notifications not firing

Howdy, I’ve setup syslog integration in our copy of observium. In the UI’s /syslog_alerts/ we are seeing the alerts. I have the syslog rules turned on in both our email and telegram contacts. I’ve rebuilt the rule checkers. Unfortunately we’re not getting alerted. We’re getting other alerts, just not for syslogs. I can’t find anything in the obs log or the server’s syslog that would tell me why it’s not working. Can anyone point me to how I can troubleshoot this please? Thanks, Joey

Community Edition Release Cycle

Storage reading error

Polling

Hello, After the installation we have an issue with the rrdtool. In order to have a graph we must have a polling each 5 minutes, but that's used a lot of cpu. Reporting Windows mount points in CE edition

Hi, We're currently using Observium CE 0.16.9.8118 (30th September 2016) and mostly love the system. Not being a native Linux user has kept me on my toes! Our deployment is monitoring customer premises equipment over hub (us and Observium server) spoke (each client network) VPN tunnels. We're ready to start spending some money with you guys but had a few questions please? 1. Is it possible to set device dependencies, so for instance, if a WAN router fails, all of the devices behind it don't show as down? 2. Is it possible for a device to not show as down unless it fails to respond to multiple polling requests (such as three attempts?) Alerting to be based on these rules? 3. Can we brand the login page an UI with our company details, as we offer the whole system in a MSP role? Thank you. I'm struggling with LDAP auth (we use Jumpcloud <https://support.jumpcloud.com/customer/portal/articles/2439911> - so I think we have an added layer of weirdness to contend with). I have a system where the storage sizes are being reported incorrectly and there appears to be an issue with reading ZFS file systems being reported at all. I have 4 NAS (OmniOS) servers that are ZFS based, but none of the ZFS disk space is being reported at all. Multiple Payments

Hi, We're a subscriber to observium professional and recently did what we did last year and paid the £240 for renewal. The accounts department are querying that a further £180 has been taken out in the same month. I can only assume this is due to an auto renewal system. Help with Alert Checker matching

I'm hoping somebody can help with an alert checker. I'd like to look at "port_descr_notes" and if it contains NoAlert anywhere in it - not have it fire the *should be up rule*. ifAdminStatus equals up ifOperStatus equals down I've tried... port_descr_notes notmatch *NoAlert* port_descr_notes notregexp .*NoAlert.* Both with no success (they both completely invalidate the rule). The string "NoAlert" should be able to fall anywhere in the description, start, middle, end - or just completely by itself. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Wildcards in hostname device match not working

Hello everyone, today I noticed that wildcards are not working anymore if I use them for hostnames as I create new alert checker. the hostnames I try to trigger are commonly looking like this: vh01-name vh02-name ... vh16-name Simple running numbers counting up and the rest is the same. I tried the following masks as match: *name* vh* vh*-name none of the above are working. The current workaround is to write a hostname check for every machine, as I got 16 Device Match entries at the moment. Could this be because of the !=/ne operand I use? Because the logical function I try to accomplish is filtering out specific servers from a alerter, so they will be ignored and not checked. Can you give an advise? Thanks and much regards, Sebastian

Subscription Support

Looking for assistance on extending our subscription. I'm a current subscriber with an expiration of 2017-01-23 and I wanted to renew early to spend the money this year. I paid for another year, but instead of extending our current subscription a new SVN account was created with its own expiration. Request for LigoWave Wireless MIB support

Hello Observium developers, It would be highly appreciated if it is possible to add support for LigoWave Wireless equipment in Observium. Currently the LigoWave equipment shows as a generic Linux machine in Observium. Attached are smpwalks for the LigoWave LigoPTP 5-23 RapidFire and for the LigoWave LigoPTP 5-23 PRO, as well as the mib definition files. Hi All - recently broke my Observium install during a Ubuntu upgrade so now I am looking to build Observium on a new box. I inherited this install and have only used it a small degree so it is fair to say I am not very familiar with the overall package but want to get a better understanding an expand my usage as much as possible. For my new install I would like to be able to retain access to the historical data that has been collected (if possible). I am hoping someone will be able to give me a quick rundown on what parts of the current install I should be backing up? I have taken a copy of the mysql DB to start with but I am not sure if I should be taking something else as well. Appreciate any assistance. Cheers Mal

V2C works perfectly but v3 doesnt work

Hi Team, I am in the process of upgrading the SNMP version from v2c to v3. I have tested with few test units but in all cases, I can do the polling via v2c without any issue but when I use v3 it doesn't work. I tried with noauth , auth and auth&priv options but in all option I get an error msg saying I couldn't connect to the end device via the V3 parameters Any help on this is highly appreciated Thank You Uthay

Geolocation Lookups stopped when updating to 17.5.8580

Hi, After upgrading from version 17.5.8580 to version 17.7.8697 the geolocation lookups using Openstreetmap seem to have stopped. The event logs used to be full of lines such as: Geolocation (OPENSTREETMAP) -> [43.719989, -71.004577] United States (Country), New York (State), New York (County), New York (City) These are now completely missing. This means the location for all devices is now unknown. I have another server on version 17.5.8580 with identical configuration which is still able to do the geolocation lookups. Here is the relevant output from config.php: $config['geocoding']['enable'] = TRUE; // Enable Geocoding $config['geocoding']['location_menu_geocoded'] = TRUE; $config['geocoding']['api'] = 'mapquest'; $config['geocoding']['api']['key'] = '<HIDDEN>'; $config['geocoding']['default']['lat'] = "51.5111119"; // Default latitude $config['geocoding']['default']['lon'] = "-0.0059373"; // Default longitude What do I need to change in order to get the geolocation lookups working again? HP RAID and Exchange 2010

I have been running the Pro version for 24 hours now. Really like what I see. Couple things I am looking to be able to monitor. I have one Supermicro server with windows 2008r2 and it is reporting in the individual raid drive status. This is great so I added another server HP dl380 running windows 2008r2 and I don’t see the raid drive statuses. How can I add theses? On the same HP DL380 we are running Exchange 2010. I was hoping I could get some monitoring of Exchange as well. I would appreciate any help. SNMPD on Ubuntu

Nested alert device matching?

Howdy Guys, I'm trying to figure out how I can build a "nested" for lack of better description device matching script. For example, "type equals network AND hostname match *domain1.com*". Or, "type equals network AND hostname notmatch *domain2.com*". I can't just use a "hostname match *domain1.com*" because I also have devices in other groups with the same hostname match, but don't want to alert-check on those other groups. Hi I am running Observium Professional an im havving an issue with some sensors in our environment I have a sensor that is always generating an alert: Index: hh3cEntityExtTemperature.112 Class: temperature min: 0 degrees max: 0 degrees current: 40 degrees I have many of them on one device i.e.: hh3cEntityExtTemperature.112 hh3cEntityExtTemperature.122 hh3cEntityExtTemperature.262 hh3cEntityExtTemperature.267 Additionally, all switches of this kind are producing the alerts since they all have the indexes and the incorrect threshold. How can i set a custom threshold that is valid for all of these switches and Indexes (the indexes are equal on all of the switches)? Alert Checkers and Mail Settings

Hello Experts, Quick one, I have Port Down Alerts on my Alerts section. I have not disabled the polling and alerts for those ports on the respective devices. But inspite of it, I still see those alerts in my alerts section. Does it clear or something just because we have disabled the polling for those ports which are down. ??? Also, I have put my mail ID as contact and enabled the mail alerts. For example, I have 50 alerts in my alerts section: [cid:image001.png@01D2F3D8.B1EB9EA0] So I get an alert flood in my mail box for those 50 alerts all once. I have my refresh interval of 5 mins, so after 5 mins I get the flood of 50 mail alerts again ? Why there is a recurring of the mail alerts ? [cid:image001.png@01D2F19D.1634BC40] If you see, the one highlighted are for Network related alerts, but I seem to have some issue here. If you look at the above for the CPU, Memory, Storage, etc the tool is able to detect and show the numbers in “Green” and “Red” But there is nothing indicating for BGP, high temperature and other highlighted alert checkers. Am I doing something different here or my alert conditions have issues ? Started getting multiple events "Device status changed to Down (ping) " over the last few weeks with no major increase in number of devices. Issue started on Cento 6.9 install with PHP 5.4, MySQL 5.1 (260 devices) HW - dual - quad core xeon CPUs, 24 GB Ram, RRD, MySQL, OS - with Observium install all on separate SSD drives Observium SVN install 17.6.8672 (rolling) Upgraded PHP and MySQL to PHP70 with opcode caching enabled, MySQL 5.7.18 - no change Spun up a fresh install Centos 7.3, PHP70 with opcode caching enabled, MySQL 5.7.18 (install per docs) HW - dual - quad core xeon CPUs, 24 GB Ram, RRD, MySQL, OS - with Observium install all on separate SSD drives Observium SVN install 17.6.8672 (rolling) $config['snmp']['max-rep'] = TRUE; Currently only 139 devices added To eliminate DNS related issues I have added the devices to /etc/hosts and forced resolution to use it first. Cron has /opt/observium/observium-wrapper poller -w 5 running every 5 min. The devices are not down and if I manually poll the device with a "Device status changed to Down (ping) " notice it responds normally and comes right back up. Was wondering if anyone has seen any behavior like this with this build or before. Also is there a way to skip ping during the poller run and just do snmp, and if so is it something that I can enable globally? Thanks in advance Ron Culler

Hello, What would be the correct way to extract rrd data for a certain period of time (last 7 days for example). I'm trying to extract data for the following graph http://imgur.com/a/Gw9y2, although when I open up the data in excel, I'm not able to get anything of use. I used this command to produce an RRD export first: /opt/observium/scripts/rrdtoolx.py addrra netstats-udp.rrd /tmp/testrrd after which I used: rrdtool dump /tmp/testrrd > /tmp/rrd.xml to get the file into an xml format, and finally I imported the xml into excel. I'm trying to put together a list of time stamps and their appropriate data points, so for example: time1 : 22 errors time2: 10 errors time3: 30 errors .... Would it even be possible to extract this kind of data from the RRD files? Thanks for your help, Austin

WAN link monitoring

Hi, I have looked for previous questions regarding this, but haven't been able to find one, so I apologise if it has been asked/answered before. We have several paths to a remote router that we monitored via it's loopback IP address. Observium does a great job at alerting us when that router is offline, but, I'm unable to find a way to be alerted when we have a single WAN link failure. During a WAN link failure we can still access the remote router via a redundant path, however, we are often not aware that the primary is offline since Observium can still reach the remote router. Apart from checking if utilisation on the link drops below a certain level, is there any other way that I can perform a check and alert on the above scenario? Thanks, Luke

Question on geolocation dropdown menu

We have a largish installation and have locations / devices in every state in the US and every province/territory in Canada. We have been adding all of these to Observium and allowing them to be geolocated based on SNMP location strings (works perfectly, thank you) but found that we are running into an issue where the scrollbar is too tall for many average browser screens. There does not seem to be a way to scroll here so there are some locations that will just not be accessible or seen on this dropdown menu. Is there a way to tune or change this? Failing that, I have a device name that I'd like to change the name of to reflect a configuration change. After we update Observium subscription version from r8637 to r8661 emailed alerts are no longer working. Alerts are still logged in the alert log, however the "Notified" status says "No" and no emails are generated. Hi , Having problem after updating to Observium 17.5.8580 . All of my servers unable to pulled Processor ,memory and storage data. Its shown 0B ( 100%) as below picture.I have tested pulled using wmic it able to produce data and also from the ./poller.php but in the observium it wont show any data. Any advice is much appreciated. Hello, I tried several times to add the new Cisco CMTS CBR8, this units has 2000 to 4000 services depending on the line cards, but it always brings Observium to crash. Once the systems hangs completely the other time the Database crashed. I tried it on the pro version and also an the CE version. Is there a possibility to avoid the system crash, adding such a device. Thanks in advanced Best regards José

Unable to parse header `DSName' rrdtool

So if I delete the rrd files in question and let it recreate them and still get the same unable to parse header after they are created again would that rule out the rrd files being corrupted? Anything I can retrieve to help verify if this a bug in the stable branch or system? Down Port Alert Filtering

Hi, I'd like to filter out ports which show in the summary table by removing those which are of the type 'Customer' Currently it looks like this: [cid:image001.png@01D2DF86.29E80950] I would like to ignore Customer type ports (which have a description starting with "Cust:") as it is very common for a number of these to be down at any given time in our use case. So it's not worth of showing up as a Red condition on the main page. Is this something that is currently configurable (like ignoring entire devices, can I also ignore a 'type' of port?) or does something not currently exist for this? BGP all session : page load >20seconds with 22k sessions

Hello, I monitored very big network with great tool is Observium. But I have issue with "BGP All session" page : When I navigate on this page, the load time is >20 seconds. I have not the issue with "All ports" page. We have >22k BGP sessions and >1300 Remote ASN. The generation time displayed in bottom righ is between 1 and 2 sec. After some time, I think understand the problem : It's not generation issue, but navigator issue with javascript. The left pan load <0.5sec with first BGP list. But the right pan with search form load >15 seconds. The navigator freeze or greatly slowed down (with "warning : one onglet slowed navigator"). I have test with Firefox and Chrome : same result. I think the big list of "Remote AS" and "Peer address" place JS engine in crazy mode. Do you have option in configuration mode to disable the list of Remote AS/Peer address and only use free text? Or not charge all list and use JS to load list when an letter/number is provided? For the moment, we can't not really use this page :( Thank! Johann

Scheduled maintenance - use interface circuits

Is it possible to use port_descr_circuit directly for scheduled maintenance? At the moment I have to create a port group consisting of of the two circuit interfaces using port_descr_circuit to schedule circuit maintenance. This feels a bit clunky due to the extra step and results in dozens of port groups containing two interfaces.

Hi All Erm help please!? Notifications have been working fine for days then suddenly stopped, and I hate to say it I can’t pin point when i stopped getting them :( I have found those when running alert_test.php the following errors PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'Mail/mimePart.php' (include_path='/opt/observium/libs:.:/usr/share/php') in /opt/observium/libs/pear/Mail/mime.php on line 63 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'Mail/mimePart.php' (include_path='/opt/observium/libs:.:/usr/share/php') in /opt/observium/libs/pear/Mail/mime.php on line 63 Any ideas? Hi All, We just discovered out email alerts have not been sending, and when checking the test_alert.php we see the following error: PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'Mail/mimePart.php' (include_path='/opt/observium/libs:.:/usr/share/php') in /opt/observium/libs/pear/Mail/mime.php on line 63 Changing line 63 in that file to 'pear/Mail/mimePart.php' fixes the issue and the test alerts works again. Has something changed in a recent Observium release that would have broken this include? Anyone else seeing this? Just upgraded to 17.6.8631 and the issue persists. Many Thanks, Tim C
