Adam, First up, this happened a long time ago. It's just taken till now to find why it broke (cause i have free time, i'm testing 0.16.9.8118 and found the error again) The problem lies in line 200 of html/includes/authenticate.inc.php (v0.16.9.8118) if (!$_SESSION['authenticated'] && (authenticate($_SESSION['username'], $auth_password) || // login/password in older versions, "$auth_password" was "$_SESSION['password']". by replacing "$auth_password" with "$_SESSION['password']"., AuthBasicFake works again. I follow the instruction : No Jpgraph installed *Jpgraph has been removed from the Observium repositories and must now be installed separately* * Please download from http://jpgraph.net/download/ and unpack to html/includes/jpgraph. * Remove the theme definition from the bottom of html/includes/jpgraph/src/jpg-config.inc.php when I refresh the page i get a jpgraph error 25121. Potential RRD Cache bug with Unix Agent / Applications

Hi, Not sure if this is a bug, or a cannot fix, but; If rrdcached is running and "$config['rrdcached'] = "unix:/var/run/rrdcached.sock" is configured in config.php, the graphs for the Unix Agent do not work. I can understand why Smokeping does not work if it does not know how to read and write from the unix socket (so we created a link to SmokePing in the Globe menu). But I cannot think why the Observium UNIX Agent does not work, as that is a part of Observium, and the rest of observium works with rrdcached. I can only guess that the UNIX Agent poller is not writing to the UNIX socket and is still trying to write to /opt/observium/rrd/, however when I disable RRDCache and remove the rrdcached line from config.php, all the old data appears. This makes me think that the UNIX Agent poller is writting to the socket correctly, and it is just Observium itself that is failing to revert to reading from the UNIX socket for Applications etc. Cheers, Andy.

Hello, I updated my Ubuntu VM from version 14.04 to 16.04 (LTS). After doing so PHP was not working as Observium's GUI wouldn't load. I updated PHP and PHP MYSQLI accordingly. I'm on v7 now. I was able to get to the login screen and login, however, after, I get a blank window. Is there a way to get the current raid status of the common controllers? We are using several LSI 9xxxx series some adaptec 6405 8405 and from time to time 3ware controllers. I've noticed that there is a discovery module for raid but if enabled nothing happens. Looking into some codes even through the unix agent there is only cfggen but no support for megacli like stuff. Any workarounds? Other methods to get the status? Context switches since upgrade

I upgraded our community edition on Monday from the previous release dated 5/4/2016 to the latest release. I'm using observium to monitor the VM on which it is running, which is CentOS 6. The context switches graph has gone from hovering around 3500 to about 4200 immediately after the upgrade. System interrupts have increased by about the same percentage, and System I/O and Load Average have bumped up slightly. Are all of these typical of this upgrade? Nothing else was done to the system or to the devices being monitored. The increase in all these graphs (and a corresponding significant decrease in Observium performance) all correspond exactly in time to the upgrade. I've been wondering why it's performing worse, and then I noticed these items. Just looking for ideas or any helpful suggestions, and if this is to be expected. Thanks. Bill

Carel / pCo Discovery

Hi all, I see that there has just been an update to the detection of the Carel pCo controllers, which has added a lot of new sensor definitions for many people I expect (a good thing would have been an awful lot of work for someone which is appreciated of course!). Unfortunately, as the pCo is a programmable unit (and we are an OEM/unit programmer for Carel) we use the units for a large number of custom applications across a number of our facilities and customers. Previously we weren't getting any sensor-specific information via Observium for these units (just network, CPU, ram etc.) which is OK as we use other BMS systems to get the environmental data. Since the last update, we are getting a load of sensors but unfortunately (since our units are programmed by us) they are now showing alarms across most of the output, for example: The values being polled are also non-sensical because whatever the OIDs which are being used are either not aligned to anything we use or just totally irrelevant values. Humidity example below (obviously it's not 3,4 and 16 %): Interestingly, we do also have some 'official' Carel chiller controllers (running genuine Airedale control pCO units, not our own) - and these are also showing crazy values as chillers (no matter where you get them from) do not have 'Delivery Air Temperature' or 'Humidification Proportional Bands' as they don't' deal with air directly - for example: So it appears the detection logic is not just limited to incorrectly identifying our own custom controllers but also those of other manufacturers like Airedale, who also use Carel OEM pCO hardware like us. With all this in mind, can I ask what is the best way to prevent these devices from being detected as " Carel pCOWeb (Chiller Unit) ". So that they go back to being simple pCOWeb units with basic stats like Ethernet and CPU? Example device data is: So like I said at the start, I fully appreciate there was a lot of effort by someone to get all these sensors setup and that's great for people using the software they were configured to detect. RRD Graphs Not Generated.

Hi, I upgraded this morning to the latest version and for some reason the graphs are now not being generated (rrd). I do see the files being updated (date and time looks as of now). problem with snmp and brocade icx 6450

Hello, we have a brocade icx 6450 we enable snmp v2c on it and all of our other network monitoring can connect it (solarwinds and manageengine) but in observium can not connect, we check it with snmpwalk it seems snmpwalk can not connect to it , also we verify all things from our siwtch and it is ok, any idea how can we solve it? thanks

scaling graphs through variable

Hi, in our WAN we have multiple 100's ALIX boards connected through VPN. On eth1 we can scan all the info on the sublocations. On eth0 & eth2 we have various internet (local breakouts) connections with sometimes async ADSL modems. Is it somehow possible to retrieve a variable (that i have to insert manually / firewall) like ifAlias? It would be ideal to have up & download links per eth0 / eth2 parsed into scaling graphs on the ports tab. This way i can make alerts as we have no bandwidth throttling Regards, Martijn

syslog integration issue

Morning, I try to implement the syslog.php features inside our Observium instance. on debug mode, we got syslog info inside the logs/debug.log file. Maintenance and down devices

I've made a small change to change how down devices are displayed when in maintenance mode that seems generally useful enough to include in the distro. It scratches my itch of being able to quickly see what downed devices have scheduled maintenace. It would probably be useful to extend to more areas like the color of device links and other entities. Unable to add Host

I noticed the Wowza MIB was in a recent update from SVN so I tried adding one of my hosts to our Observium server and it states: No reply on community t-public-ss using v2c. Could not reach 'HOSTNAME' with given SNMP parameters using v2c. I have done an snmpwalk from the Observium server to the host in question and it works properly. Billing Module Problem

Hi, We are running the latest paid version, and turned on Billing last week. The cronjob is running fine but nothing comes up in the web interface? Billing Graphs 2 hours ahead

HI All Can anyone point me in the right direction? The billing graphs are working well, but for some reason the graph is 2 hours ahead. I assumed it may be the date.timezone setting in php.ini but that wasn't it. Thought it may have been the router time zone or incorrect NTP info, but that is also correct. The Last Polled and Last Calculated times are correct. Im sure its something simple that I am missing, but I can't fine it.

Discover new devices problem

Hello everyone, Great Documentation and so far it's a great tool. One question though because i can't find a way to get auto discover new devices to work. Everything works great when adding the device ./add_device.php <ip> public v2c but when running ./discovery.php -h new , 0 devices discovered. I guess it's not a problem with the SNMP cause it wouldn't work with the manual ip addition, right? So the next step was to check the hosts file from the observium server. so this is the config 192.168.1.2 test-01.home.com #(machine to discover) The sysName variable from the machine that i want to discover is Linux test-01 3.10.0-327.36.1.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Sun Sep 18 13:04:29 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 The firewall is disabled in both machines Sorry for the trouble but what am i missing here? To whom it may concern, Currently we are having some issues with Observium's Auto Discovery. The problem is that it currently only discovers about 10% of the network. Does somebody have a clue on how to fix this issue? We already disabled the option "require valid hostnames" at the auto discovery settings. Unfortunately after changing this option, it only discovered about 10 more devices. Also we do not have any problems with the CDP neighbours on our switches. Unable to save sensor values

Hi, On devices with large numbers of sensors it appears that I'm unable to set custom limits any more. I'm sure there used to be something about a maximum number of rows to be updated (a SQL setting?) but I can't remember or find any reference of it. The path to the page is: /device/device=XXX/tab=edit/section=sensors/ I don't get any errors when applying, but, as soon as the page refreshes the old settings are back. In fact, any change on the sensors page fails (setting custom values, disabling alerts, enabled custom limits etc.). It works fine on all devices with lower numbers of sensors. These ASR9k have well over 150 I reckon, maybe more, it's hard to count. Anyway, can someone remind me of the SQL tweak for this? Or is this a bug? Cheers! Restrict alerts to HA active F5 only

Hi all I have an alert checker set up to monitor our F5 BIG-IP devices, alerting administrators if they forget to syncronise config after making changes. My alert looks like this: Device Match: * Entity Match: status_type equals f5-config-sync-state Test conditions (Require all): status_name notequals inSync status_name notequals standalone This is working great, however to reduce spamminess of alerts I am looking to only send the alert for the primary (HA active) device; when an additional status_type / condition match is true, i.e.: Entity Match: status_type equals f5-ha-state Test conditions: status_name equals active Is it possible to have alert checkers trigger based upon groups of entity matches like this? Syslog Alerts

Hi, First off, the last few revisions have been killer, it's getting better every few weeks it seems, thanks! Ive setup some syslog alerts and I see under "syslog alerts" it will show a entry and "notified" will be no, then it appears after a few minutes this changes to yes and send the notification. It looks like it does not send the message until it sees more then X number of messages, It's sent after I get this in the logs: 2016-10-04 20:53:13Error (3)LAST message repeated 10 times 2016-10-04 20:52:47Error (3)LAST message repeated 7 times 2016-10-04 20:52:33Error (3)XNTPD NTP Server Unreachable Is this documented somewhere and Im missing it? Just trying to see when the message gets fired off. We were using some janky omprog code to send alerts that were "instant" but rather have Observium send them as it's much cleaner all around, but some alerts we want to get on the very first message and right away as they are critical. I noticed the syslog rules severity of a 8, im guessing eventually that will control how "sensitive" the alerts go out maybe? Thanks

CBQoS Issue & Temperature

Hello First thing, does the attach show anything I need to be concerned about? The warnings, although 6 days ago I'm not understanding where they came from. These are new switches, all 3 fans installed and green lights. Airflow sufficient and cooled. Secondly, I have 3 ports showing a CBQoS error. I checked and see it's due to packet loss because of rate limiting policy set previously. Running Cisco 3650. I've removed the policies from each of the port's VLANs assigned over an hour ago and Observium is still showing as the policies in place? It polled ample times on all ports but not quite sure why it's still showing the policies and errors? I did notice at least that it showed no packet loss once I removed the policies, but the error bubble is still there and it still shows the policy name when viewing the CBQoS page for the ports. >From the Switch Switch2#conf t Enter configuration commands, one per line. Hi Did a test on a Linux (Ubuntu 16 on a Supermicro SYS-6017R-73HDP+) machine to see if we could get an alert when a HDD fails. The machine isn't using any RAID , just a plain mount of a partition to a mount point. I have configured IPMI in Observium to. The test (a bit brutal..) was to just remove the HDD when the server was ON. I did not see anything in Observium about the missing drive. What can I do so I can set up an alert checker notifying me about a failed drive? Will the unix_agent give me more info on this? Custom alerts without using checkers

Hi, We have many custom scripts, and we would like those scripts to be able to send custom alerts into Observium. What is the best way to do this? We would not be able to use "Alert checks".. High CPU load on Cisco S500G Small business switches

Hi, We've noticed an issue with Cisco SG500 switches and Observium, where if you enable stacking mode (the default on the switch), regardless of if it is in a stack or not, the CPU reports a 50% average. Our investigations show it runs at 95% + for a couple of minutes whilst Observium is polling it, then drops back down to <10% when the query finishes. Turning stacking mode off drops the average CPU to <10% and CPU does not ramp up and down. We raised a case with Cisco TAC, who said this is "expected behaviour": >>> At every 5 min cycle, the CPU rises to 85- 95% temporarily and then drops down. The reason for this is, Observium is checking for interface status. When switch is in standalone mode the interface count database is the max switch capacity. Example 48 ports = 48 ports plus channel ports ~ 60 ports In stack mode the predefined port count in the data base is around 880 ports. While the switch is responding to SNMP get , it is using up resources and that is why the CPU utilization will be high. While I was testing it, I did not see or encountered any network outage or Web access issues. We have already made an enhancement request for this behaviour, to limit the port count to any stack configuration. >>> Has anyone else encountered anything similar? Adam - I realise that Observium is only polling what the switch is reporting, but if Observium can ascertain how many switches are in the stack, would it be possible to limit polling to only query active/connected stack members? Hello, Simple question : We need upgrade our Observium deployment with multiple networks (public & private). Does Observium have any issue accessing nodes via more than one server interface? Whether two different physical ports or two different vlans on the same port? Some proprietary vendor NMS solutions are somehow locked to one interface only and cause great trouble. :o) Thanks, Johann

Bandwidth Reporting Off

I’ve been using Observium for a while and there seems to be some discrepancies between my graphs and the upstream (my data center provides me Ethernet GigE bandwidth). For example, from around 8am to 12pm today it showed overall utilization pretty consistent well above 400Mbps. These switches are actually trunked (2 x 3650 L3 switches). In the graph, it shows the uplink to switch #2 connectivity calculated with the total utilization (VLAN2155). This is definitely not accurate as it shouldn’t do that as far I’m concerned. Total utilization should simply be Drops #1 & #2, which covers all VLANs on both switches. Example: Drop #1 = 40Mbps Drop #2 = 200Mbps Uplink to Switch #2 = 130Mbps Now as a result VLAN2155 (total utilization) is calculating not only #1 and #2 drops from the upstream, but even the trunk port labeled “Uplink to Switch #2”. I disabled polling on that uplink port and the total utilization (VLAN2155) is still far higher than what the output is for the past 24 hours from the upstream provider. They show 187Mbps past 24 hours (95th), 219M In / 202 Out. I show 266M In / 182M Out. Why is it so drastically different? Why is Observium calculating the “uplink” to the trunked 2nd switch in the total utilization graph? This is throwing off accuracy.

Hi Does anyone know whether it is currently possible to discover bgp/ospf routing instances within a VRF on the NX-OS platform ? We migrated from IOS to NX-OS, IOS was passing them through snmp just fine. But NX-OS requires snmpv3 contexts for vrf resources. A full walk in the 'default-vrf' does not contain any metrics for the vrf's running on this VDC. Hi, Can a port group contain multiple entities checks? I'm trying to just group our carriers for each location into port group. Please review this Cisco document regarding interface persistence. This is likely the issue you are seeing, not a problem with Observium itself. http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/simple-network-management-prot… There is a command you can include in your configuration that will keep interface numbering persistent across reboots. I just don't recall it exactly off the top of my head, or I would include it here. ... Plus, they both show active instead of active/passive. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. >From the tech: "95th percentile is calculated from both ingress and egress traffic. For example, if you used a constant 200Mbps up and down, then you would only be charged your commit of 200Mbps, not double. I do see what you mean that the two handoffs (layer 2) are equaling more than 300Mbps, but when you look at the Aggregate (layer 3) graph at the top, it does not go over 300Mbps. These packets can possibly be queued before going out so you don’t go over your commit. " So, what do you think might be causing this hiccup? I noticed this too: so these switches are actually trunked (2 x 3650 L3 switches). In the graph, it also shows the uplink connectivity calculated with the total utilization. This is definitely not accurate as it shouldn't do that. Can't Add Device

Trying to add my secondary trunked switch, but I get this error "Could not ping switch2.mydomain.com." I ran a DNS lookup on that hostname and it shows the records fine and the switch (#2) accurately. I tried adding the device using the same setup as the original switch that's already there: port 161, udp transport, v2c protocol version, snmp community same as primary. I can ping the hostname too, not sure why Observium cannot.

False positives on Device Alerts

We have an SE installation with about 260 devices being checked. We have alerting setup for various services or checks. Often we see false positives on the SNMP device down alert, for example devices will report SNMP down when they are not really down. After a second or even third SNMP check we see a recovery and the uptime shows no outage. I also verify this by doing and snmpwalk from observium while the “alert” is active. Is there anything we can check or begin to look to find the cause. The server is not overloaded, with either memory or processor. We are running 25 poller wrappers with a complete polling time of about 300 seconds. Thanks, Tim

Hi, I am having an issue with latest Observium release 0.16.9.8086 (9th September 2016), after updating to latest revision the discovery/polling is still working fine according to logs, however the web interface shows 'No devices found' and can't access any data. Disabled devices showing on front page

Port Alerts

Hi, I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question but I am interested in setting up alerts for key ports only. I have setup the example which shows Enabled ports which are currently down: Tests ifAdminStatus equals up ifOperStatus notequals up Entity Match ifType equals ethernetCsmacd However I cannot work out how to refine it further - such as trunk ports only or if the port description contains a string, such as "CORE". We would like to know when key ports go down only. I have tried adding: ifAlias equals *CORE* and similar configuration but I expect I have the syntax incorrect. The idea would be to alert on either ports containing a certain word in their description or on tagged/trunk ports. I also tried to find a location to search the old emails from this mailing list but have been unable to find it. Many thanks, Peter

Alert check for only one Nexus Fex modul

Hello I have a Nexus switch (hostname is sw01) with lot of FEX. I would like to check only one FEX (fex name is Fex-120) Die-1 temperature value. I go to Devices > Network and select „sw01” device, select Health > Temperature and there i see every FEX sensors. [cid:image001.png@01D214BB.99AFC980] So i would like to create a check for Fex-120 Die-1 if over 45C i would like to get an alert. I tried to create alert check but i am not able to set up correctly. This check get all of FEX temperatures: Device Match: hostname match sw01 Entity Match: sensor_class equals temperature Check Conditions: sensor_value greater 45 What i have to modofiy to get only the requested FEX’s Die-1 temperature? Alert ifInOctets_perc doesn't match port ifInOctets_perc?

Had a couple of utilisation alerts come through today reporting a 10Gig port as over 80% utilisation, when in reality it doesnt appear to be that busy?. The alert email shows this graph, showing over 100% utilisation and a solid 80+% most of the day: [image: Inline images 1] When you click through the embedded link to the 'real' graph in Observium itself, it reports the correct utilisation figures I would epxect to see based on the traffic graph: [image: Inline images 2] Traffic graph for the port: [image: Inline images 3] Are the alerts reading the information from a different rrd? Doesn't seem like it as the port would be alarming constantly based on the graph in the email as it shows over 80% for most of the day? Happy to accept that the port may have spiked to 8Gbps, but I would have thought this would have been reflected in the graphs somewhere but if anything traffic was tailing off? Is there possibly an issue with the alerting on ifInOctets_perc or do I need to be looking more closely at what the device is reporting, which on face value _seems_ OK looking at a debug of poller.php? There is probably a space in it somewhere, that the location system detects but clicking on the location shows all 15 devices. If someone want to search a description like: Asia-mSwitchVRF_5 you have to fill all letters in one line, for example: mswitchvrf_5 , otherwise no result found. Event if you type "mswitch5" or "asia-mswitchvr5" nothing.. I think we are not alone with this problem here? Hi All having a strange issue for some reason when i originally added a server, it only found 4 processors, (the server actually had 2 x quad core xeons) i did an observium update recently and suddenly 8 processors now appear but the processors graph is just showing ERROR now ive been able to find the issue the 4 new processors arnt putting any data into the rrd files ? I/O Latency Metric Alert?

Hi, Is there an attachment point for alerts to be triggered from the metric of I/O Latency? Reason for asking is that I could do with an alert checker which would have spotted this issue (the scale is in seconds!): It went unnoticed overnight until it crippled a virtual host when users started accessing VMs on it this morning. The underlying fault was a RAID card issue, but nothing else detected it and I've just found that Observium 'knew' about it, but we have not alerts which would have caught this. Any ideas? Cheers! Device Commets and notes

Hi, I can see that a ticket has been raised for adding a place to add comments and notes to devices on ticket OBSERVUM-249 http://jira.observium.org/browse/OBSERVIUM-249 The workaround is to use the Description field. However this field is too small to store much useful info, and cannot be read easily as the field does not expand to show more characters. IPMI

Hi, I have two servers both with IPMI ports enabled and working. Within Observium I have configured the IPMI Settings for both servers. For one of the servers Observium displays the relevant IPMI information (e.g, CPU Temp etc) however for the second server, the information is not displayed. Firmware are identical. I have confirmed the IPMI configuration a number of times and connectivity does not appear to be the issue. Anyway to troubleshoot this? Thanks Laurence

Hello Not sure if this is the proper channel for feature requests. But it would be awesome to have support for the ‘Dry contact inputs’ on the APC NetBotz devices. Still not sure how to do a proper likeable snmpwalk so someone will probably shake their head and wave their fist in fury over this one. But hey, at least I tired. =) Snmpwalk output: http://pastebin.com/qcV8vX98 That one have 4 connected ‘dry contact inputs’ and you can see their name under for instance ‘emsProbeConfigProbeName.<n>’, ‘emsProbeStatusProbeName.<n>’ and ‘emsInputContactConfigInputContactName.<n>’ and then some... Also normal state and current state are represented in that walk. This particular netbotz is in charge of switching to secondary cooling circuit and firing those pumps up in case of failure on main circuit. Not seeing unix system graphs

I’ve got a CentOS 6.7 VM (that runs my Observium instance, currently at version 8068-stable) that I’m trying to monitor with the unix agent described here: http://www.observium.org/docs/unix_agent/ Installation of the agent went fine, as did the telnet testing from the host itself. I got a bunch of data via telnet. Also, SNMP has already been configured on the server and it’s polling itself properly (as far as I can tell) From my Observium web page, I see the system and can some details for it. The Overview shows me high level system info (kernel version, hostname, Location, uptime, etc) and the Event Log. Graphs only show Agent Execution Time, Ping Response, SNMP Response, and Poller Duration. From looking at the live demo on the Observium website, I’m assuming I should be seeing a bunch of additional data (processors, memory, netstat data, load averages, etc, etc, etc). I’ve taken a look at the device configuration settings and can’t see anything that I’m missing. Any ideas for what to look at next will be much appreciated. Thanks, Glenn Cooper

Observium group alerting?

Can the grouping system be utilized for alerting at this time? Example: setup alert checker to monitor device status of a group of devices and send single alert if any of those devices goes down. Or is the grouping feature only used for information viewing and scheduled maintenance? We are looking at options for suppressing amount of alerts that can occur at some of our larger locations. bind_cache failing to write via RRDCached

Hi, Having a good time today…! Got another oddity since the upgrade of the Observium server itself to 16.04 unfortunately :( In summary, all servers running BIND (they are still on 14.04) have now got zero ‘cache content’ stats since the Observium server was upgraded on Tuesday. However, all the other BIND stats are working OK: [cid:image001.jpg@01D1D944.38CA7190] Looking at the debug output, it is getting the data fine, and it’s writing out the values to RRDCacheD OK. I tried disabling RRDCacheD – it started working straight away. So, it looks like RRDCacheD (version 1.5.5 under 16.04) is unhappy with writing the ‘Cache’ elements content output for BIND. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s either: 1) something to do with the quantity of DS elements within that RRD (all 42 of them) 2) something relating to the use of an “!” in the name of the elements (that’s a proper random guess) The write attempt is: mupdate /opt/observium/rrd/x.y.net/app-bind-23-cache-default.rrd N:6:3:::392500:799:13060:27296:825744:29:17815:555:67263:160:8::9660:2238:49:382:23:14:::::::259181:22:2::45094::26347::::::6715::::::: My old RRDCacheD config was: DISABLE=0 OPTS="-w 1800 -z 1800 -f 3600 -s www-data -l unix:/var/run/rrdcached.sock -j /var/lib/rrdcached/journal/ -F -b /opt/observium/rrd -B" MAXWAIT=30 ENABLE_COREFILES=0 The new config has different parameters, so I’ve setup as follows: DAEMON=/usr/bin/rrdcached WRITE_TIMEOUT=1800 WRITE_JITTER=1800 BASE_PATH=/opt/observium/rrd/ JOURNAL_PATH=/var/lib/rrdcached/journal/ PIDFILE=/var/run/rrdcached.pid SOCKFILE=/var/run/rrdcached.sock SOCKGROUP=www-data BASE_OPTIONS="-F -B" Does anyone know of anything which could cause this? RANCID tab gone after update to 8068

As the title says, upgraded via svn to 8068 and the config tab is gone. Integration to smokeping still works, as well as the user agents and everything else, but no rancid. Rancid setup is still in the config file too. Anyone else seen it disappear after any update? On a side note, svn is reporting at revision 8069 while the gui is reporting 8068. Ldap issues with edit users

Hi All, If anyone is using the ldap piece, I need your assistance. When you navigate to users --> edit users, it says no users in database, then any navigation to any other link, it brings you to the login screen. Most of the time, it will never load the edit users page and you can no longer navigate anything. Closing the tab out on the browser doesn't help either. Observium becomes unresponsive. Time on X-axis of graphs is 1 hour off.

Hello What setting have I missed when my time on the X-axis on the graphs is one hour off (-1). Time of alerts are okay. So only the graph that shows -1 hour. ‘date’ on the server shows proper date and time. Hi!, anybody tried to get capacity metrics for AD services?, like DHCP scopes, LDAP connections, etc?. DHCP scope is exported by SNMP, for SCOPE capacity and usage, but given generic OID feature can graph a single data source, it's dificult to make that counter useful. Any suggestions? Problem to update machine location

Hi, I have moved some virtual servers to another data center. I have updated their syslocation code in their snmp file /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf Snmpwalk and poller display the right (new) syslocation code, but Observium does not. Which items did I miss on the checklist? Thx Bernard

App alerting

I saw a few weeks back a commit 8083 added "Add ability to store JSON data for apps.” and got all excited. Is this the starting for app-based alerting? I have amended my FreeSWITCH poller to store an array in my app name in readiness for the potential of some app-alerting goodness and see it now gets logged in a new column applications.app_json. If only there were a way to create an alert checker that polled it! :) Maybe like Device Match: "os equals linux” Entity Match: “application equals freeswitch”, condition: "peaksessionspersecond greater 10”? ubuntu upgrade 14.04->16.04; VRF list is not showing?

Tried a test upgrade here on a system running observium professional (0.16.8.8086). Ubuntu upgrade went fine, added in mcrypt, php7.0. Was able to get into observium and most items looked ok that I could find with the exception of the VRF listing. (attached) The other areas, BGP, OSPF, etc all list out fine. The VRF section, as you can see lists the 2151 VRF's that we have but they are not displayed/listed. I checked php.ini, memory limit was set to 1024M which is the same I had w/ php5 under 14.04. Went back to 14.04 and figured I'd ask if anyone here who's done a similar upgrade has seen anything similar or any ideas on what else I can check?

Hi there. Since the 19th of July, when I most probably svn up'ed, I have two identical devices that spams the logs with "Interface changed: [ifAdminStatus] '' -> '0'". They're 2 Tandberg LTO libraries and the're no sensor monitored in it, since not supported, but only the admin interface availability. Hello, I’m using Observium on a virtual machine, with rrdtool 1.6.0 and rrdcached. For now, it takes up to 80 seconds to poll 87 devices. Openstreetmap / Cartocdn wrong certificate

Hi All I just came back from vacation and updated Observium. The map is now done with OSM/Carto, which is nice, boot it took me a while to find out why no map was loading. As it looks like all the cdn nodes have no SAN for *.basemaps.cartocdn.com The tiles get loaded in my browser from a.basemaps.cartocdn.com b.basemaps.cartocdn.com c.basemaps.cartocdn.com After adding an exception for these, all works well.. Does anyone have the same issue? Observium LDAP Edit Users very buggy

Hello, I think I may have found the specific device access only via the Edit Users area. The only issue is that it is hit n miss. I sometimes can see my ldap users that have logged in and sometimes not. Once I do see the users, I edit one and give that person access to a group, but if I click any link, it puts me back at the login page. Which takes a few tries to log back in. Then sometimes when I click the edit users, no users show up. Is this part of the bugginess of Observium and LDAP integration? I am using the latest version per Subscription. Rancid integration - config tabs won't show up

Hi @ll First, I want to give you guys from Observium a big thumb up because having a such easy webapp, so easily maintainable, so powerful and all without marketing layers and super complicated licensing makes you kind of unique on the market. Now to the issue, I'm trying to integrate my rancid files into the latest stable version of Observium (did it last week following official observium tutorial). Now I have multiple entries in the config.php (because of multiple router.db files/directories in rancid) : $config['rancid_configs'][] = "/var/lib/rancid/ juniper1/configs/"; $config['rancid_configs'][] = "/var/lib/rancid/ juniper2/configs/"; $config['rancid_configs'][] = "/var/lib/rancid/ juniper3/configs/"; $config['rancid_ignorecomments'] = 0; All the /var/lib/rancid/ directory is chowned by rancid:rancid. www-data is in rancid group. I restarted apache2. I cleared the cache from browser. I checked the config in the observium web-interface and it's correctly read by the server (I see the lines above). I checked the hostnames, and the ones I am backing up with rancid are matching the ones registered in the observium. But there are some observium devices I am not backing up yet. Hi there, I've configured an alert that checks if ifInOctets_perc exceeds 80% utilisation and I'm finding that the alert is being triggered for normal amounts of traffic. What steps can I take to resolve this? Citrix NetScaler VIp stats gone

Hi, We recently upgraded our CE version from 0.15.6.6430 => 0.16.1.7533 Now all of our Citrix LB's aren't showing per VIP stats We really use the individual vip stats alot Now we get the error attached which effects NetScaler v9 and v10 devices Any ideas how to fix this one ? UNIX agent for PostgreSQL creating a new RRD file every poll since Aug 12

Hi, I noticed that postgresql application data disappeard on all servers recently. It ran fine for years, but since Aug 12, a new rrd file gets created on every poll, and the postgresql application tab is absent for all servers. I'm updating my installation daily on 9am, so this started happening after the Aug 12 update. Is there any way to utilize local authentication and LDAP authentication simultaneously? We would like to utilize LDAP for our technicans, but also be able to create local users for client access. Thoughts on "locations" front-page module

In our setup the ‘map’ frontage module is pretty and impresses exec level types, however the space is mostly wasted as far as an engineer is concerned, requiring multiple clicks to drill in to areas of interest. I’d like to have the location table as seen at http://observium/locations <http://observium/locations> on my home page instead. Is this an option that can be implemented simply enough? Does anyone else think that this is a good idea? Thanks for looking!

Please help create an alert :) Nexus FEX PS problem

Hello At the night the Observium showed an alert (fortunately) that I never set up in the Alert checks . I see this alert in Global/Alerts and the left up box there is an “1 alert” in the Statuses row. If I click the “1 alert” it shows me that a Cisco Nexus FEX modul’s powersupply EVENT is alert and Status is offDenied. So it is a dead PS. What I can to do if I would like to get alert if this happen again? I have lot of Alert Checks but I am not able to do an alert for this PS check because I don’t know what is the correct Entity match of it. I tried the “sensor_class equals powersupply” and Test is “sensor_value greater 2” (looks the normal PS value is 2, now this failed PS value is 4). But it doesn’t work (no matched entities). alerting problem

Hello, At the morning I was on the 7933 but 2 hours ago I updated to 8039. I used a CPU alert for my routers. In the older version it is worked, I got the alerts via mail and PagerDuty as I set up. Now after the upgrade I would like to test the alerting because on 7933 i “pached” the pagerduty.inc.php for more info in the PD message (the default file just send like “something wrong somewhere” :) So. After the upgrade with the original (nor pached) PD file I would like a test to see how looks out a PD message now. I set a lower value for the CPU alerting (from 50% to 15%) to generate alerting (now the cpu load is 18-25%) After a few minutes I see in the Alers / Processor that my deviced appear and show that the status is FAILED. It is ok. In the Alert Logging I get the “Checks failed” so it is great. But. I never get “Alert notification sent” messages. (I get “Alert notification sent” for other events, so the alerting is working for other services). I see in the Alerts that the router’s status is Failed, Checked 18s Changed 20m 36s, Alerted: never. What I have to do for send the alerts? Or for the debug? Thanks BR Laszlo

Hi, Thanks for the confirmation, it’s great that alerting on an OID will be coming soon and in my case that will work, I’ll keep the App for viewing graphs and use a custom OID to monitor alerts by. Ultimately alerting on data collected by apps would be beneficial but not essential, as it will give neater integration options but I can see the complexities in that, maybe allowing apps to store pertinent stats for alerting in a column holding an array with a sub-array for each app? Anyway, I look forward to seeing the OID alerting soon. DeltaUPS graphs broken after r8016

Well not really... but it will not use renamed RRDs before after a new discovery of sensors. Meanwhile polling will create new RRDs with old names, so it seems you have lost all data. Several hours of data can be missed because of this. Maybe some improvements can be done for that. NOTICE: Please immediately e-mail back to sender if you are not the intended recipient. Holes in graphs

Hello all, We're seeing holes on our graphs (example attached). This appears to be affecting all graphs in our installation on all devices. I know our connection is good (affecting LAN and WAN devices), but looking for any other ideas for correcting this? We have also tried increasing the number of poller processes. Graphs no longer draw after restore

Hi, I recently restored observium to a different machine. I restored the following: config.php mysql db rrd Everything looks good except for the fact that graphs stopped drawing and display data in a real time. When i click on port to see real time data, i get "can't get data about port xxx". See attached images. Any ideas ? Thanks

No memory pools detected for OSX hosts

Hi there, I'm running Observium 0.16.7.8003 (stable) for monitoring OSX hosts which is working great, except no memory pools are being detected for any hosts apart from "Swap space". Memory for OSX hosts did work previously, but after I mailed in re: "Incorrect free physical memory for Unix hosts" and Adam A. made a change, the memory pools have disappeared. Apps tab used to show a single graph per item.

Hello Observium overlords, In the past the Apps tab in observium would only show a single graph per item/array, but with the later versions it shows four graphs per item of varying timelines. Is it possible to configure Observium to only show a single timeline graph per array? When a large number of servers are running the application, it’s difficult to compare graphs when they are displayed in the current manner. Thanks, Ricardo

Device not yet discovered

Hi, Almost once a day I receive the following on one of the switches. Device not yet discovered This device has not yet been successfully discovered. System information and statistics will not be populated and graphs will not draw. This device should be automatically discovered within 10 minutes. It does not go away until I have manually run the /opt/observium/discovery.php Any ideas why? Thanks Laurence

One of my guys has been setting them up overnight but has noticed that Observium reports one of the metrics incorrectly for all of the new units. Ironically the inverter status is, well, inverted. power levels for Juniper MX

Hi Looks like there might be a slight issue with the reporting of power levels for SFP's in Juniper MX's. Seeing the following: on the Juniper MX: Laser rx power high alarm threshold : 2.0000 mW / 3.01 dBm Laser rx power low alarm threshold : 0.0000 mW / - Inf dBm Laser rx power high warning threshold : 0.7900 mW / -1.02 dBm Laser rx power low warning threshold : 0.0315 mW / -15.02 dBm But looks like observium is treating '-Inf' as '0' and this throwing an alert. Help in New QoS support

Hi, years ago I collaborated with huawei's integration and its MIBs files. It was before change to a commercial edition Now I've been working on Huawei's CBQoS support, but I have a few questions about. Already I've written for Huawei NE40 family a discovery and polling modules, using the mysql table called ports_cbqos. I found that every vendor has different implementations, even one vendor has different implementations for each their models. My questions: 1.- Could I create a new table or just modify the ports_cbqos table. 2.- Right now I have finished this URL and it's working fine: http://10.184.8.136/device/device=1/tab=port/port=8/view=hqos/ (a new VIEW called hqos and I know you can't reach it but I can create a public address) I do not know how to integrate it into the navigation panels or port links (How to chose between cisco's qos or huawei's qos when somebody follow the cbqos link) I think we need to create a new QoS module with multi-vendor support. I have previously used custom OIDs to monitor a VoIP Application (FreeSWITCH) but found I couldn’t alert on custom OIDs, and that the graphing wasn’t as customisable as I wanted, so I have built a custom application for freeswitch. I now want to be able to raise alerts on a few things, such as when the number of new sessions per second is over a predefined value or when the uptime resets (application pop and restart). I can’t seem to find a way of creating an alert check for anything that’s not one of the basic properties of a device though. Could someone please tell me if this is possible? For example can I create my own attributes in the device then query them with an alert check? I have tried adding something like: $device[‘device_state’].[’my parameter’] = value But that doesn’t seem to be stored outside of the php script. It’s quite important that we are able to alert on custom parameters and I can either provide these as OIDs or through the unix agent, whichever gets the job done. Thanks, Neil.

I've recently switched several devices off of SNMP v2c to v3, and I've updated my config.php with all the v3 parameters, and I'm wondering if there's a way for force a re-discovery using the new info without having to go into each individual device and enter in all the new SNMP information? I didn't see any flags in for discovery.php that would force it.

Hi, I've had a small Observium (c. 5500 ports) running for a couple of years (SVN version). Have configured housekeeping, which is fab and has kept things from getting out of hand. However, noticed /opt/observium/logs/db.log is a 5.6GB file... Can I clean this up? Should I be running a cron cleanup task on this? Ports Shown As Down

Hi, After a power outage, the front page (and Status Warnings and Notifications) is showing a Cisco device's Ports as Down, of all ports that have NO devices (workstations) connected. The alert I have defined (taken from the example) Port is enabled, but operationally down ifAdminStatus equals up ifOperStatus notequals up * ifType equals ethernetCsmacd I have run the poller.php multiple times with no success. Is there a default amount of time until these warnings will be cleared, is there a process that can be run to clear these alerts? Thanks Laurence

Email Alerts Not Working

Hi, I have recently installed Observium and updated to the stable version. I have successfully configured a number of alerts, however despite the alerts being generated (I see them via the web gui) I do not receive them to email. Using test_alert.php -a 1 (see below) I am able to receive email, however the test email looks a little empty from what I would expect. Slow poller speeds after migration

Hi All I have moved from a VM server to a physical server. as the VM was taking a bit of a pounding, graph dropouts etc The physical server is a dual quad core Xeon, 2.66Ghz with 128GB of RAM and a 32GB ramdisk, and rrdcache I also have 2.5TB or SAS storage in a raid6 config Will all of this my average poller-wrapper time is around 60 to 70 seconds per device if I manually run an snmpwalk a single device takes around 6 seconds I have also disabled the ramdisk, rrdcached etc and I am not seeing much of a difference either way I have around 900 devices and the VM server was way faster, any idea where to start looking for a bottleneck? Real time graphs on single page

Observium team, We were curious if it's possible to display multiple real time graphs at once on a single page? It would be great if we could find the ones we want, enable the feature, and display them all full screen in our NOC. Do you know if this is possible, or if it's something on the road map? As the real time graph displays the device and interface name already, it seems like it would work well to just stack them. For now, we're having to load multiple pages in separate windows. Adding a new application - missing details

Hi, We are running unbound as two instances on our servers, one is a auth with a custom backend and one that is just caching. I have made a copy of all the files and updated names accordingly so they are unbound_auth* and unbound_cache*. Ive looked at the instructions on http://www.observium.org/docs/developing/add_app/ and have made all those changes as well. Under the main apps page how do I get a 2nd link to show up for the unbound app metrics im collecting? Ideally id have one that is Unbound-Auth and one that is Unbound-Cache. When I go under the properties for a server and then applications it shows nothing know as the "unbound" namespace is missing and is either unbound_auth or the unbound_cache (or unbound-auth and unbound-cache in those places). Ive looked around in various files and grep'd everywhere that I can think but can't find where this is at. Also I don't see anything in the database, so not sure what im missing. Thanks!

Event and alert dates show as 0s in summary tables

Getting different results for same interface in original port and the billing port sections

Hi there, I am seeing different throughput results for the same port at two different section of the Observium GUI: The Port summary shows that the the throughput we were getting between 08 Jul to 18 Jul was almost ~ 8 Gbps (in each direction. However, the bill says it was ~ 6 Gbps between that period. Not sure, which one is reporting it correctly. I would expect both of them to match exactly. Thanks! Traffic accounting Spike Removal

Alert checker sending email notifications every polling round

Hi all I have an odd alerting issue where I am receiving email alerts about a failed check each time a polling interval passes. Checking the alert_table for the device_id in question I see that it has_alerted = 1 and everything else appears to be in order. Wondering why I am getting repeated alerts, pretty sure with my other alerts I have configured I only get one when the alert triggers and another if the ‘send recovery information” option is checked. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated. I have tried disassociating my email address from the alert and also rebuilt alerts. Thanks

Google map not showing devices after fresh install of Subscription Version

Finally got everything to work, well at least I thought. Ldap, alerts, etc are all good now. Except I just get a blue map with no host locations. I made sure to put my location in each host properties. Any thoughts? Thanks, ----------------------- Leo Dano
