Real time graphs on single page

Observium team, We were curious if it's possible to display multiple real time graphs at once on a single page? It would be great if we could find the ones we want, enable the feature, and display them all full screen in our NOC. Do you know if this is possible, or if it's something on the road map? As the real time graph displays the device and interface name already, it seems like it would work well to just stack them. For now, we're having to load multiple pages in separate windows. Adding a new application - missing details

I sent this Saturday but never got a copy, so im sending again, hope it's not a dupe! Hi, We are running unbound as two instances on our servers, one is a auth with a custom backend and one that is just caching. I have made a copy of all the files and updated names accordingly so they are unbound_auth* and unbound_cache*. Ive looked at the instructions on http://www.observium.org/docs/developing/add_app/ and have made all those changes as well. Under the main apps page how do I get a 2nd link to show up for the unbound app metrics im collecting? Ideally id have one that is Unbound-Auth and one that is Unbound-Cache. When I go under the properties for a server and then applications it shows nothing know as the "unbound" namespace is missing and is either unbound_auth or the unbound_cache (or unbound-auth and unbound-cache in those places). Ive looked around in various files and grep'd everywhere that I can think but can't find where this is at. Also I don't see anything in the database, so not sure what im missing. Thanks!

Event and alert dates show as 0s in summary tables

Getting different results for same interface in original port and the billing port sections

Hi there, I am seeing different throughput results for the same port at two different section of the Observium GUI: The Port summary shows that the the throughput we were getting between 08 Jul to 18 Jul was almost ~ 8 Gbps (in each direction. However, the bill says it was ~ 6 Gbps between that period. Not sure, which one is reporting it correctly. I would expect both of them to match exactly. Thanks! Alert checker sending email notifications every polling round

Hi all I have an odd alerting issue where I am receiving email alerts about a failed check each time a polling interval passes. Checking the alert_table for the device_id in question I see that it has_alerted = 1 and everything else appears to be in order. Wondering why I am getting repeated alerts, pretty sure with my other alerts I have configured I only get one when the alert triggers and another if the ‘send recovery information” option is checked. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated. I have tried disassociating my email address from the alert and also rebuilt alerts. Thanks

Google map not showing devices after fresh install of Subscription Version

Call to undefined function check_valid_sensors() on IPMI & Unix-agent polling

Hi there, When polling with either IPMI or unix-agent modules enabled, the polling run stops with this error: Sensors: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function check_valid_sensors() in /opt/observium/includes/polling/unix-agent.inc.php on line 174 I've updated to the latest non-stable release, and no change. I've also historically had this issue and cleared my /opt/observium directory and re-installed but no change. Any ideas? Happy to provide more info if needed. Many thanks Olly

NetApp c-DOT updates

Hi! I just updated to 7961 and saw that NetApp c-Dot is now reporting volumes like it has done for long on OnTAP 7. Great :-) However, the total and used capacity are all 0, so something with the Index is wrong or simply not done yet. Anyone knows if this is a known issue and being worked on, or ? /Jesper

Hi Steve, What do you mean, not getting any data? You said the graphs show up fine? Care to share a screenshot? Also copying the mibs doesn’t work, as this is custom OIDs, the whole meaning behind it, is that you don’t need the MIBs for that. Steps to add custom oid

Hi, I could use some guidance here. I have recently upgraded to the subscription version of Observium so that I could add some custom oids to graph. I am running on CentOS 7. I followed the guide here: http://www.maartenmoerman.nl/?p=649 No problem adding the oids and applying them to the devices. Graphs show up fine but I cannot get any data. I have also copied the MIBs to the /opt/observium/mibs directory. The MIBs have a *.txt extension on them. I have tried removing this but still no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Steve

I know this has been asked/answered, but the whole archives thing...what's the history behind [the lack of] support for IS-IS data in Observium, are there any plans to add it at any point, and would it be of value to anyone else? Even basics like warning on adjacency changes, tracking neighbors over time, etc. would be great...I would personally find it of value for an additional sanity check during maintenances or outages - an ISIS health overview tab for a device with the ISO address/area, participating interfaces, and stats. Generalizing the data pool: any current thoughts around creating an abstraction layer between Observium and its data source? Mysql as the sole backend presents some challenges for us in trying to scale Observium to production. OBQL? :) Sort-of on the tails of that last question, has there been any discussion about adapting Observium to take advantage of network devices which emit metrics using thrift/protobuf? E.g. using some other data pipeline/collection system as a data source...or even doing the collection itself and doing the necessary quantization/processing to produce a useable view. Last one in that train of thought, any thoughts around incorporating additional data collectors other than simple snmp polling (e.g. facebook's udppinger or fbtracert)? Alert for port-channel summary?

Hello, We have Cisco Nexus switches with VPC configuration. On the switches are configured a portchannel (in VPC with 2x10G ethernet) to the same 3. device. The problem is: I would like to create an alert if the traffic to the 3. device more than 8G I have to get an alert. Now because the 2 nexus just show only the own port-channel traffic, if one portchannel traffic on switch#1 is 6G and on the switch#2 is 5G the 8G alert doesn’t work. The alert is: Test: ifOutOctets_perc gt 80 Device Match / Entity Match Hostname match *switch* ifAlias match *to 3. device* So it cover the switch#1 and switch#2 and the port-channel interfaces with description “2x10G to 3. device” but this alert check the port-channels like a line not an aggregated traffic. Is there any option to add two device’s interfaces and create an alert for this summary? Or can I create an alert for a port group aggregated traffic? This would be great in this case too. Frequent drop outs from WebUI

Hi... I am running Observium for quite a while now. But there is one thing that bugs me. I first thought this is a bug and would be fixed at some time but I am updating Observium frequently from svn yet with no change. I am frequently dropped out of Observium with an authentication error. I log in (with LDAP authbackend) just fine. But sometimes after 30 minutes, sometimes even after a few seconds I am dropped out of Observium. When I click the "Remember me" (Cookie) button this lasts a little longer. Sometimes I am immediately kicked directly after logging in. This is also logged in Observiums "Authentication log" as "Authentication Failure" in the very same second as the "Logged in" event occured. Is anything known about this? Or is it just a nifty PHP config variable about session handling I forgot to set? Thanks for your help, Roland

JunOS autodiscovery where SNMP is in a routing-instance

Hi, I’ve been reading up on how to interact with a JunOS device where the SNMP agent is contained in a VRF (Routing Instance). In order to poll it properly, I’m required to use '<Routing_Instance_Name>@commmunity' instead of just ‘community’. I think I’ve covered this off in the config.php by adding the equivalent to the proper array: $config['snmp']['community'] = array(“comm",”MANAGEMENT@comm”); While reading up on the autodiscovery process itself in the documentation, it says: "Devices must return valid, resolvable sysName” When I poll it manually, sysName returns <Routing_Instance_Name>@hostname: SNMPv2-MIB::sysName.0 = STRING: MANAGEMENT(a)lab01.juniper Does that mean MANAGEMENT(a)lab01.juniper needs to resolve, or will Observium truncate MANAGEMENT@ when trying to resolve the rest of what is in sysName? Making an alert for mapped interfaces

Hey All, I want to create an alert if any interface between two managed/discovered devices in Observium. This includes switchers and routers, servers...etc. I'd also like these to be based on Observium's device Mapping that is available per device. In the checker conditions I'd put hostname matches * but under the checker device and entity association. There's no entity for mapped devices whether it be via CDP/LLDP or detected from observium itself. Perhaps I'm missing the obvious. Thanks! Heston

Subscription Version not showing "Storage" correctly?

Hello all, I have two instances of Observium running with two different hostnames. One is Community and one is the Subscription version. My Community version on is showing storage correctly. My Subscription version is not. All the partitions are showing as 100% free and green when I know / can't be 0bytes as well as all other partitions. Is this a bug? Hello This was touched upon in another discussion but as a sidetrack no solution was found. Pretty much all my alerts 'time or recovery' reports the time of this entities PREVIOUS recovery. So the time reported are always pretty bonkers. I can see that with the help of timestamp on the emails , slack notifications and the timestamp of previous recovery. And for the very first recovery of a device/sensor the duration is list as "unknown". Alert on device status = degraded

I’m trying to set up alerting for our tripplite when it goes on battery. I cannot get it to work properly for some reason. Entity Type: Status Check Conditions: upsOutputSource.0 ne normal Device Match: os eq poweralert Entity Match: * Observium Version: 0.16.7.7983 (professional) -A debug from observium yields a value of: upsOutputSource.0 = normal (the normal changes to state of “Battery” when on battery) -Even if I change my check conditions to eq normal to test the alert it does not trigger an alert. -I also tried check conditions of * and that did not help. Toner History Graphs

I have a bit of an odd one. I have two printers in my observium install. One has been in for ages (an HP laser jet), the other I added a couple of weeks ago (A sharp MFD photocopier thingy). By the looks of things, the HP has been collecting data correctly for ages, and graphing it nicely. I can see the pretty line that shows that the toner has reduced over time. Oddly, it stopped collecting on the 7th July, and hasn’t graphed anything since then. The Sharp, which has been in less time (since Thursday 7th), has never graphed its toner properly. They are both showing the correct level of toner (well, the Sharp is showing two of them at -3, but I’ve checked the snmp output, and it’s returning -3, so that’s nothing to do with observium). Even more weirdly, the toner level on the weekly graph is showing the correct number. The rest show -nan% The Sharp: The HP: I don’t know much about how the graphing side of things works, so I don’t have much knowledge with which to do any debugging, but happy to send more debug info if required! Incorrect free physical memory for Unix hosts

Hi, Loving Observium in general but the only issue I'm having is that for all our Unix-like hosts the free memory is reported too literally to be useful. The cached memory pool is included in the "used memory" count, causing almost all our hosts to appear as having less than 5% free physical memory. Is there a way to get free memory not including the cached memory pool? Currently the alert checker I'm using is flagging all our hosts as "out of memory" Many thanks in advance Oliver B

Arch -> extension (since 16.04 upgrade)

Hi, Just completed a release upgrade on Observium itself (14.04 to 16.04) and now it is reporting its own architecture as 'extension'. Wouldn't be an issue really, but every single time it polls it updates the event log like this: I've attached a debug output of the poller as this may help to track it down. Interestingly, a lot of our other servers run 16.04 now but it only reports this for 'itself' - not the others. Anyone have any ideas? Cheers! poller-wrapper.py does not run, but poller.php does

Hi Guys, Newbie here. I just installed the latest version of Observium (subscription) onto Ubuntu 14. It discovered my Cisco router, 15 Cisco switches, and 4 Microsoft servers no problem. HOWEVER, poller-wrapper.py does not run. Days later, still no polling. I have this line in /etc/cron.d/observium: */5 * * * * root /opt/observium/poller-wrapper.py 16 >> /dev/null 2>&1 If I manually run /opt/observium/poller-wrapper.py I get this error: "ERROR: Could not load or parse observium configuration, are PATHs correct?" If I manually run poller.php, all the devices get polled just fine. I don't have a PATH statement in crontab. I can add one, but I'm not sure exactly what to add. I also notice that Joe Snijder's post says the syntax should have the word "python" after "root". Does that make a difference? Please help! ID of graph changes and "jumps" between storage on server

Hello I have an issue that bugs the heck out of me. Not sure exactly what's going on but in short: First of all, when I write ID I mean the ID in the url when looking at the graph for a storage attached to a server. Like "....//graphs/to=1467822524/id=219/type=storage_usage/from=1467736124/" where the ID is 219. The storage I monitor on this OSX server is connected via iSCSI, NFS, SNFS and Avid ISIS. What happens is that when rebooting or if a storage is disconnected and reconnected the above mentioned ID changes. Not alway but very often and it gives some odd subsequent errors like alert checkers being triggered for the wrong storage. Which I don't know how it's even possible since I assume they're not based on ID in the background? An ID that can have gone missing or changed... Real odd and not sure that's really whats going on or if it's snmpd on the server that reports wrong. Affected are only 2 of around a dozen Cisco ASAs. I cannot see this problem on other device types. How to give permissions to view a device

Hello, I want to give access to a specific device to a specific observium user. This user should not see the other devices that are being monitored by observium. I have created the new user as a normal user (level 1). As expected, when I log into observium this user has access to nothing. My question: where do I configure what devices that this user should have access to? Or where in the device configuration do I configure what users may access the device? Hello, Observium is a great tool and I'm still getting my hands on it. I've encountered the following issues and hope somebody can help me : 1) I'm trying to do an alert check on custom IOD but haven't found how to specify this in the check conditions. Is there's any way to do this ? 2) I activate the Customers and L2TP in the config.php file and I'm trying to make it work. Do you have any more informations about how to configure my equipments ? I manage to configure Transit by specifying "transit" on the port and it works great. A colleague of mine told me that there used to be a wiki page about this before but it seems it's not online anymore. Thank you for taking the time to help me. -- Greg

Problem with my Observium DB Error

Hi, i have some problems in the last days with my Observium. I have the subscription and for log time works fine. But in the last week have errors all time and my server are slow... When this happen my apache give this error on the browser: DB Error 1040: Too many connections For this read in the FAQ need edit the /etc/mysql/my.cfg and set the max_connection=500 but nothing change. or this another error: DB Error 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'sending authentication information', system error: 32 When execute the restart complete server works fine a few minutes and experiment the same errors and nothing works. Hello, Is there a way to get an overview page of the status of all the historical availability graphs of a specific alert type? So for example a page with all the DeviceDown alert type checks, with per device the row of graphs of the historical availability of the check. And preferably filtered by the devices in a group. monitor nfs mounts

Hi All, I’m just trying to work out how i monitor the mounted nfs drives i have on a server? ive disabled $config['ignore_mount_network’] but still nothing? can this actually be done? i only want to see the folders that are mounted as a storage drive in observium and see the percentage thats being used i would just monitor our NAS drive directly but sadly the NAS storage drive is very old and doesn’t support SNMP but we are looking at a new one with SNMP support :) regards Simon - Hestor Ltd

Billing fails on specific interfaces

My thought is that it may relate to the interface name as it works well with other products and interface names. The "special" think is that the interface name has a colon in it. Debuging slow SNMP-queries

Hey guys, I noticed I have some devices in my network that are responding very slow on just some specific SNMP-queries so I hacked together a small script that will parse the debug-output of Observium poller or discovery and then show you a list of the snmp-commands that took the longest to complete. You should monitor your Dell server using snmp on the idrac itself like its a different device. The most important thing is the global status It will display in alert in the statuses front page. The global status is the color of the led when it's amber you have an issue. Now you will be able to see that in observium as well. Good luck. SNMP just sometimes has a hickup. Although usually I don’t have these, but in order to prevent panic/heart attacks, I did introduce that 1 time delay on my device down alerts. Haven you applied alert checkers on port-errors all around your network as well? CRC/port errors, and things like these you might want to fix first before you actually get in to device down alerting. Just a simple "ifInErrors_rate gt 0 & ifOutErrors_rate gt 0 on ifType equals ethernetCsmacd” alert-check will give you all these ports. you’d be surprised how much stuff is wrong in an average network. Also certainly check the port to which your observium machine is connected to, and make sure to monitor your observium machine as well, make sure your machine is well specced out. In addition to this, I’ve configured IP SLA on all our core routers to see/verify that latency on our links is within the SLA parameters of our suppliers. Do this before you check on devices down. I'll echo this sentiment. We were seeing a large number of false positives because of lack of SNMP response from some devices even though they were responding to pings without problem. Setting a delay of 1 reduced the number of alerts we were seeing substantially. We do still get a couple devices that will fail both checks, usually right after the discovery run, and we'll get an alarm on that, but it clears itself next poll. Hello, I am currently trying to completely replace our cacti installation with Observium. Hi, I've recently added some hosts to my monitored services. - All are running Apache 2.4 so I applied the Apache configuration as described at http://www.observium.org/docs/apps/#apache - All except one show the Apache application info as expected. - Except for the missing Apache info, this site is correctly reported (so general snmp / xinet config are fine) - I have carefully reviewed the different points for this host and Apache config, all is nominal. Which are the points I might have done wrong in the checklist? Which other points not in the checklist should I look at? Thx for your help Bernard

Alert Checker for memory?

I created an alert to let me know when a host uses over 90% of its memory. The problem is that linux uses over that in "cached" memory. Is there a way to exclude cached memory? Hi, today I noticed something strange I can't explain at the moment. I am running a backup job (8TB) over a 1Gbit Interface, from Windows Server 2012 R2 -> HP switch -> Freebsd 10.2 The freebsd snmp interface reports the real Bits/s with an Avg In of 511.98M while the Windows Interface in charge reports an average of 32M out. If I take a look at the Task Manager within windows I'd also guess and Avg of 500Mbit/s. Also the Unicast Packets TX of Windows are very similiar to the Traffic RX at freebsd. I have attached two screenshots and would be very glad if someone could take a look. I have also added the relevant part of my weathermap, where I take the switch interfaces snmp to draw the links, and they look very alike to the windows interface, but not to the freebsd. Group ports based on subnet...?

Hello Trying/wanting to create a group for ports based on what subnet they're on. Is this possible...? Think I've tried most approached but haven't managed so far. When looking at details on ports for a device this is pretty much already done at the right most column next to mac adress. HI, I monitoring a my NetApp storage. Recently I have noticed that observium show 10G connected Interface as 1.41 Gbps speed and non connected as 10 Mbps. I have checked on switch side its correctly show 10G connected. Any hint what could be the reason for this? WatchGuard Device Discovery

Good Morning, I’ve recently added a WatchGuard M200 into Observium which discovers all the correct interfaces/counters but shows the device ultimately as generic / unknown. Is this a WatchGuard issue in regards to what is exposed by SNMP or is it something that might appear in an Observium update? We’re on 16.5.7872. You can use: Hostname, os, type, sysName, sysDescr, sysContact, Location, hardware & serial as an attribute for this. See the documentation for the attribute syntax on alerting, which works for groups as well. SMTP fail, ignores settings in config.php

Hi I'm trying to figure out what has happend to the mail in our observium. It was working for a while but not now.. My Observium is a TurnKey appliance download. Now i can see that it's trying to open port 25 on a server that it's not supposed to go to.. Don't know if someone have been messing with the server.. Temperature "A" bug

Hi, We have a Nexus 5K with FEX. The Observium (v 7900) can show the temp datas of it. But if set the „Graph Previous” and „Show Legend”, the value of the previous temp datas shows as „A” instead of „C”(elsius). Attached a picture. Regards, Laszlo

Hi! I created a few custom OID entries for BlueCat (DNS). This works well as the DNS OIDs are straight forward. For the DHCP part of this product, using custom OIDs won't cut it as one have to traverse each subnet for data, so I wanted to know if anyone is working on enhanced BlueCat already ? /Jesper

Hello, we have a problem with observium when we login to observium wait some minutes 1-2 minutes observium logout us automatically and we shoudl reenter it seems session expired within 1-2 minutes or when we go to all device and set basic and choose a device then it logout us and we should reneter that, any idea how solve this? thanks,

I'll be damned. That was probably just pure luck but it alerted faster than expected. Please see screenshot link displaying the alert mail, because they to look a tad odd: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5ynr67ior7at3e3/mailalert.png. It lasted for 5 minutes, or actually just a brief moment within the polling period, but look at the duration in the recovery email. Really odd. By the way, are there templates where we can configure the layout of the email alerts (subject, what it displays in body and more)? Here is a screenshot of the graph created from the data in previous command. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nw47m75tj601gmh/csv_graph.png So yes. There's spikes in the data and I guess they don't show up in data center expert because they run some filter at it or just ignore random peaks or something. The value of the peaks in the now collected data is ALWAYS 20480 which in some way feels significant since it's constant and feels like some sort of unit max value. Hi Henrik, Sensors are all "gauges", so there's no real concept of spikes the way there is for ports (which are counters). If we're getting a spike, it's either that the device is sending the wrong data, or that the device is sending a number which hasn't been adjusted for the scale the device uses. It'll be the first if the 1.6-1.9 doesn't have any relation to the "real" number, and the latter if it's just off by a few orders of magnitude. It's pretty unlikely that we could do any bad maths, maths is easy, and such bugs would present much more regularly. These sorts of things are pretty common on many vendor's SNMP implementations. You might be able to see it in action by frequently polling the sensor in question's OID and logging the value. adam. Hello Monitoring two APC in-row coolers. One of them gets some weird 1.6-1.9M watts spikes every now and then. Once a day or such, without regularity. I have started to monitor the same device in Schneider Data Center Expert just to see if it's a device or monitoring issue. There's no spikes there so I do think it's something with Observium and this particular unit. The other unit is fine and no spikes there. Only difference is that the load on this one is smaller and at times down to 0. I do see that there's an option to log spikes in the config file. But not sure I can monitor a sensor with it since it says port and wants and ID. Can I debug these spikes in some way? Proper procedure in Observium for hardware replacement?

So, I had a question regarding hardware replacement. I recently replaced several Cisco 2811 routers with Cisco ISR 4331's, and kept the same host name. After the swap, I noticed I wasn't getting any graphs for data flow on the serial interfaces. I attempted running discovery on them again, and waited for a few polling cycles, but still go no data. In the end, I ended up deleting the devices completely out of Observium, including the RRD files, and re-adding. After this was done, everything showed up correctly. So, as I will be doing more of these soon, is there a specific process I should follow for these? Maybe rename the old device to a different hostname, then add the new device? The historical data wasn't critical, so I'm not too bothered losing it, but I would like to avoid it if possible. Thanks, Derek

Apps graphs in Observium

Hello. I am using Observium to monitor two postfix servers. However the APPS summary site, does not show the postfix graph. From what i can gather it seems that there is a mismatch in what application name the apps overview page uses and the apps subpage for the individual server. i.e. the postfix server app subpage calls http://observium.my.server.bla/graphs/to=1465199547/id=10/type=applicat ion_postfix_sent/from=1465113147/ and the apps overview calls: http://observium.monitor.srv.aau.dk/graphs/to=1465199603/from=146511320 3/legend=no/type=application_postfix_mailgraph_sent/id=10/ if i remove the "mailgraph" part form the last link the correct graph shows. I've tried to add the postfix application to the "includes/definitions/apps.inc.php with no luck. Is there a way to update the RRD file, so i do not have to delete it and loose the historical data from the other parts that i monitor? Rancid integration - Cannot see old versions anymore

Hi, Hopefully this will be a simple question and I've just misconfigured something, anyway.. We have rancid working great before, and when you go to the Config tab, it showed you the latest configuration, as well as the configuration revision history. However after upgrading the server to Jessie (probably unrelated but seemed to break a couple weeks around this time), we now only see the latest config only and not the history anymore? We have these settings; $config['rancid_configs'][] = "/var/lib/rancid/observium/configs/"; $config['rancid_ignorecomments'] = 0; And we have done this; http://www.observium.org/docs/rancid/ It all works, just only shows the most recent? Recent Events timestamps

Hi all I've just migrated our Observium installation over to a PHP7 based install (much quicker than the PHP5 based install so far). Everything seems fine except for the Recent Events list on the front page - the "time" counter since the event occurred has started getting stuck at 0 seconds for some reason, but the tooltip that pops up when you mouse over the 0s timestamps shows the correct time that the event occurred at. Is PHP7 a no-no for Observium at this point? - Jacob Bisby

Yes, you are right ☺ So ok, the Ports menu shows the groups that contain ports group and we have two groups menu now (Globe, Ports). :) Sorry. But in this case I think the Ports -> Groups has to be the default value is the “Port”. Like in the Globe->Groups there is the “All” is the default value. But nothing in the Ports->Groups. It shows nothing until I press the “Port” on this page. Hello We used the 7793. Added 3 group with interface sum in the Ports menu. Later add 2 sensors group there. The Ports menu shows 3 member, but there was 5. (3 interface, 2 sensors). If we click to the Sensors we see our sensors groups. Now we upgraded to 7900. We see the Group in the Ports menu AND the first menu too! The first menu shows 5, the Ports shows 3 groups. Click on the first menu’s groups: shows all 5 groups. Great ☺ Click on the Ports menu’s group: shows nothing. But there if I click to the “ALL”, it shows 5 groups (3 interfaces, 2 sensors). Laszlo

Hi, first time user of observium and i like the info that i can get with it. The documentation is probably behind the "client-area" @ observium.org? I have no idea if it matters whenever i change the type from "server" to "firewall", does it apply other MIB's to the device? Hi Observium Team When i try to access the postfix mailgraph plugin directly, it doesn't show up. If i open it via Devices -> Apps -> Postfix Mailgraph it shows all graphs correctly. Why? How to solve? Please see attached screenshots. Thank you.

Citrix ICA and/or RDP Login count

Hello, this maybe a malformed question but has anyone used Observium to graph Citrix ICA or Remote Desktop logins / session count? I am guessing this could only be done with a WMI query so no? but thought I would ask. Thanks Adam, that worked. The strange thing is when I run ./discovery.php -h all It enumerates hundreds of network devices by IP that aren’t listed in /etc/hosts, but for some reason it doesn’t populate them all in the web GUI > Devices, so I guess I have to write something that converts all those IP’s to hostnames and adds them all to /etc/hosts, which seems hard. Am I missing something? Does the enterprise version resolve IP’s? Discards reporting incorectly

Hi, We have noticed an interesting problem where on all of our OpenBSD firewalls, every single interface on the same firewall reports the same discards rate. We would like to try and work out which interface these discards are actually happening on, so we can work out what the cause is and check for a possible remedy (wrong VLANs being trunked through for example). If they are bad checksums, than that's ok. But would like to know ;) Below is a screenshot showing the "Errors" graphs for all ports on the same server, notice how they are all displaying the same data. My thoughts of how to start are; What is the SNMP OID being polled for this information? I wonder if OpenBSD is incorrectly reporting the same value on all interfaces, or if there is only a single Discards counter/OID for the whole system, or if it is an Observium problem etc.. So if anyone can tell me the OID, I can do some more investigation first ;) I don't mind setting up OID mappings in SNMPD etc, if that is required I would be happy to provide a configuration template for Observium and OpenBSD. And I also wonder how up to date the OpenBSD MIB file built into Observium is? Thanks in advance for your help :) Kind regards, Andy.

Devices failed: 1. but ping works fping 1.2.3.4 1.2.3.4. is alive but snmpwalk works like: snmpwalk -v 1 -c catalyst 1.2.3.4 iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0 = STRING: "Cisco IOS Software, Catalyst… ... The web interface add device also fails same way. what am I missing?

Graph error on ipv6 host

HI! I added 2 new routers direct with ipv6 direct in cli. Every thing works nice exept the aggregated graphs were the 2 new routers are a part. My guess is that its the name’s on the routers thats are the problem. they are just named as the ipv6 address. Missing BGP Peers

Afternoon, Before I open a ticket with JTAC, I have a Juniper MX router that currently displays no BGP peer data (it used to once upon a time). I ran ./poller.php -h <device_id> -m bgp-peers –d against it and got the attached output. I also get the below every day or so: [cid:image001.png@01D1B683.F2B58B50] I could be wrong but from that log file it looks like the snmpwalk is returning data from the device? Could someone run their eyes over the log and see if they agree and if so where do I need to look next in order to resolve this issue? Alert Checker options

Hi All Is there a way of removing a subset of device names from the alert checker configs, i.e. !somename.* * or NOT EQUAL somename.* * or similar so if there are devices that I want to graph, but dont care if they are up or down. Which brings me to another point I guess, is there a way of not showing certain things on the dashboard or diminishing the value / time of a notified device, I dont need to know about a rebooted device for 24 hours, also is there are 2 or 3 errors on an interface I may not need to know about them, and as per above I may only want to graph traffic on a device if it is up, and dont need to know if it isnt up

Disable re-alert interval

Hello, Observium re-alerts on a configurable interval with the "$config['alerts']['interval']" setting. We don't want any re-alerts. Is there a way to disable the re-alerts entirely? Setting it to 0 would be a good idea to implement this. Regards, Siegfried

Alerting debugging

Hi All, I was wondering if there is any way of debugging pushover alerts? We have an entry in the alert log about the "Alert notification sent". The message was never delivered (we use Pushover), and the Application info in the Pushover interface doesn't say there was any message attempted. How to debug it? Hi All our subscription ran out yesterday and we forgot to change our card details so our subscription wasn’t renewed I’ve clicked the modify button on our subscription on the subs page and updated our details now what do i do? how long does it take? the is another button at the bottom of the page saying 'Purchase Subscription' and I’m worried if i do that ill get a new user and pass OR be charged twice also the is no contact information on the Observium website hense why I’m having to email the General list instead Regards Simon

Alert Dependencies

I've asked about this before but how hard would it be for you guys to implement alert dependencies? The easiest way I can think of doing it would be to simply let us set a "parent" device for anything, and if that device is offline don't send any alerts for downstream devices. For example we have a testlab that has no UPS/Generator power that we monitor about 200 devices, when the building loses power we get those 200 alarms about devices being offline, when in reality there is a single 6500 as the gateway, and if that switch is offline, i know the rest will be. We don't want to disable the offline alarms because we do want to know when individual devices drop out. RRD Files - Error Drawing Graph - Before you groan, its limited to OpenBSD and I have an RRDCommand.. ; )

Hi, On Observium commercial, all of our OpenBSD firewalls fail to draw the "Processors" graph on the device Overview page :( However if you go to the "Graphs" tab on the Device page, the "Processors" graphs do draw.. It seems to only be limited to the "Overview" tab on the device page. Our Linux servers, Cisco, HP gear etc are all fine. For both the OpenBSD firewalls and the Linux servers, the Processors graph on the Overview page seems to be based on "Device (ucd_ss_cpu)". But the Processors graph which does work looks to be based on "Device (processor)". So it seems that "Device (ucd_ss_cpu)" is not populated for OpenBSD, where Observium thinks it should be. Help needed with unix-agent

Hello, I have installed ubuntu on virtual machine, configured bind and unix-agent successfully, in observium were able to see the application "bind" and all the graphs related to bind were displayed. After few days, I made a copy of vmware virtual machine (on which bind was running), added it to observium (with new IP), telnet to 36605 shows the output related to bind but observium showing that no application is running on the new virtual machine. so, 2 queries: 1) what am i missing? 2) How to debug step by step Regards Gaurav

DPKG version listing order

Hi all, We've recently added the DPKG agent to some of our Debian hosts so that we can keep on top of what's up-to-date and what isn't. So far it's been quite helpful, except I have one small niggle with it, the way that it lists the version orders of the packages. See below: The nginx version on the above are listed in the order of: 1.8.0 1.8.1 1.9.11 1.9.12 1.9.14 1.9.15 1.9.5 1.9.9 Where if they were listed in version order they would be listed: 1.8.0 1.8.1 1.9.5 1.9.9 1.9.11 1.9.12 1.9.14 1.9.15 Is there anyway that this can be worked around, or is there any plan to implement a fix? Specific use case: We cannot currently send syslog messages from all our network devices to the Observium host and would be looking to use BPDU counters as an indication that a spanning-tree event had occurred. Hello, We have a few checkpoint firewalls and I am looking to generate email alerts when the HA status changes from OK to critical. The high Availability icon looks to be a traffic lights one while the devices themselves show as the normal device icon - so I think they may be discovered as separate entities. Unhide the hidden showtech tab

Hi, Does anyone know how to unhide the "showtech" tab for all the devices? For example, go to somewhere like; https://observium/device/device=17/tab=ports/ And change the "ports" for "showtech". http://observium/device/device=<device_id>/tab=showtech/ This page is useful, and would be nice to have the button on the device page instead of having to remember a URL hack, when debugging missing data or problems monitoring devices etc (esp when using rancid and smokeping like we do). Citrix Netscaler vServer

Hello, we have a Citrix Netscaler (x2 HA) that we monitor but there is no Loadbalancer Tab on the device page. So we are unable to see vServers info etc. Have ensured that the SNMP view is FULL as opposed to Read only on the device themselves. Both nodes are running Citrix Netscaler NS10.5 (Build 57.7.nc) Running CE 0.16.1.7533 (26th January 2016). Am I correct in thinking that I should be able to see vServer info? If so some suggestions to resolve this would be welcome. Disk size alert Windows

Hi all, I really struggle to get a proper alert on a Windows C: drive size. Checker is as follows (can also be found in attachment): Storage_perc greater 50 Hostname match ampere* Entity * Only if I fill it in as above at least the checker is added. As soon as I change entity to storage_type equals hrStorageFixedDisk like written in manuals it doesn't even add the check after the rebuild option. I have run ./poller.php -h ampere.companyname.pvt -dd with attached result. As you can see the C:\ drive is filled more than 50% so I would expect an alert. Who can help me with this? Observium and Slack

Hi guys, Has anyone gotten Slack Alert notifications working? We have email alerts working but not Slack. NB; Running the commercial version (0.16.2.7629). We have a webhook URL for a private slack channel https://hooks.slack.com/services/xxxxxxxxx/yyyyyyyy/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (x, y and z replaced for public viewing) I tried the custom webhook "Contact", however we don't know how to transpose our slack webhook into the fields provided (URL, Authentication token, Sender of message). There is no Authentication, and their is no Sender (the sender is defined by the webhook on the Slack side). But only filling in the URL field with the webhook doesn't work :( Doing a "curl" test on the Observium server terminal with the webhook works fine? Have also tried creating the new slack "Contact", But I have no idea how I'm supposed to transpose this webhook into the fields provided; (Channel name, Username, Instance URL). Assume this only works for public channels where you enter in user details for Observium instead of using a webhook. Generally not sure how to debug this. Noobie.. Thanks, Andy.

It seems to me that this is an issue in the stable version (build 0.16.5.7833), because the 'All Types' filter is working correctly, but the User dropbox is empty and selects an non existing blank user (deselecting the blank user solves the problem). However it is still not working :( I created an "Incoming Webhook" on the Slack site for our company, which injects messages to the "Private" channel "networks-private", with the username Network-Alerts. If I test the webhook with 'Curl' (as image below) it works fine and the test message appears in Slack (and on my mobile ;) But as you can see in my test below, I setup the contact the same as you, added an Alert checker, and then triggered some alerts. But none of them came through? Observium; Command line test; Slack App; Really want to get this working with Observium as a method of notifying network alerts to my mobile. Hi Adam, Is there a way to debug it? If I enter a word in the Billing Name nothing is found but I am sure that there are records matching the search string. Also the User dropdown box contains an empty record, could this be the problem because the ‘All Types’ first match is "All Types". See attached snippets.
