Incorrect memory graph for large RAM amount

Hi, Just discovered a weirdness when I added a server that has 3TB of RAM : the ucd_memory graph is totally messed up. It only displays negative amount of Cache/Shared buffers. The legend shows that it didn't handle the 3TB correctly. But it seems to be fine for the health/memory view where the correct amount is displayed everywhere. Better performance on older hardware

Hi, I am in the process of qualifying some hardware to run Observium (planning to deploy it in about 25 locations). So I was trying to evaluate the hardware we currently have which consist of Dell R610 and IBM X3550. So we can gauge what we need. The R610 has : - 2x Intel X5660 (6 cores 2.8Ghz + hyperthreading) == total of 12 physical cores and 24 logical - 96Gb of DDR3 1333Mhz - 6x300GB 10K SAS configured as one raid1 of 2 disks for mysql and OS and a raid5 of 4 disks for rrds. - 1Gb network interface The X3550 has : - 2x Intel L5420 (4 cores 2.5Ghz) == total of 8 physical cores - 32Gb of DDR2 266Mhz - 2x200Gb 7.5K SATA configured as one for mysql and OS and one for rrds - 1 Gb network interface So reading this, it seems easy to guess which one should be faster. I am currently testing using : Observium CE 0.15.6.6430 OS Linux 2.6.32-358.14.1.el6.x86_64 [amd64] (CentOS 6.2) Apache 2.2.15 (CentOS) PHP 5.6.11 Python 2.6.6 MySQL 5.6.26-log SNMP NET-SNMP 5.5 RRDtool 1.4.9 From my testing, the poller perform a quite better on the R610 than on the X3550 : Polling the same 310 linux boxes (The slowest devices taking around 35 seconds) this gives an average of : - 8 threads : R610 : 169 seconds X3550 : 213 seconds - 12 threads : R610 : 69 seconds X3550 : 156 seconds - 24 threads R610 : 41 seconds X3550 : 107 seconds - 36 threads R610 : 41 seconds X3550 : 160 seconds - 64 threads R610 : 37 seconds X3550 : 225 seconds - 96 Threads R610 : 40 seconds X3550 : Still running Ok we clearly have a winner here. Bottom line for the poller, you can come close to the time taken by your slowest devices if you add more threads. But it seems that you need quite a few cores available to be able to increase the number of threads without decreasing the efficiency. This was kind of expected. Where the thing becomes weird it's on the web interface and especially the graph rendering : On average starting with a clear cache, the same Linux device page render (graphs included) consistently in about 1 second on the X3550 and in about 4 seconds on the R610 (screenshot attached). Where it became even worse : if you ask the X3550 to connect to the mysql database of the R610 and export the rrds of the R610 over NFS ... the X3550 still render the page faster (still around 1 second). Any guess on what is going on here ? It doesn't seem right that a machine that is definitely faster accessing mysql and updating rrds would be 4 times slower when rendering graphs. Alert checking on port state change

Hi all, I'm starting to get my head around Observium alerts. I want to be alerted if a switch port that was previously down comes up, and vice versa. I don't want to get repeatedly alerted when a port is down (or up), only when it changes state. At the moment I'm using tests "ifAdminStatus equals up" and "ifOperStatus notequals up" for one alert, but I appear to be getting notifications each time the poller runs. Any suggestions on how I can get what I want? Cheers, Tim

Good morning all I have a new server setup with Centos 7 and Observium Everything looks good except I can't add any devices. I get an error that says it can't ping the device. I can ping when logged in from the terminal by IP and by Name. FPing also works from the console. IP tables and Firewall have been turned off for trouble shooting. I can add users etc. This is a replacement box so the devices are all configured correctly. Total loss here.

Hello Sujith, When you set an alert you can set the number of polling runs before the alert actually fires. Under Alert Checkers set the "Alert Delay" for the checker to 3 or 4 and see if the results improve. If you are polling every minute you might start a polling run while the previous polling run is still happening. I would up this from 1 minute to about 2 or 3 minutes at least. Would be good to hear other comments on the fast polling time. svn Checksum mismatch error

We have been running Observium under RHEL 6 for over a year now. After one of the last updates, I noticed that php 5.4 or newer was needed. Unfortunately, php 5.3.3 is current in RHN but I was able to update to 5.4 using a different repository. Then I had an issue with xcache not being available for 5.4. This brings me to my current problem. I decided to go with the approved distro, Debian. My problem is that when I try to execute "svn co http://svn.observium.org/svn/observium/branches/stable observium", I get a few files and then randomly get the error “Checksum mismatch for ‘/opt/observium/somefilename.extension’ If I blow away the /opt/observium directory and run the command again, a different file gives me that error.

'Duplicate entry' issues on vlans_fdb

Just today I updated to the latest and greatest (0.15.8.6882). I was several revisions behind and several database updates were done as a result. Hi All, i did an update this morning to latest SVN and working fine (thumbs up) I then disabled the cron job to update PHP, MySQL and Apache as I’m still using 5.3, 5.2 and 2.2 (updated to 5.6, 5.5 and 2.4) now the apache has just completely gone tits up !? Error: Blank Page - Alert Checks

Whenever I click Alert Checks from the global dropdown menu, an empty white page is displayed. This was working before, and (unfortunately) I'm not certain when it stopped. I know It's not related to any recent updates, as it's been this way for a few months now. We just haven't had time to investigate it further. Hi Is there a way to calculate in Alerts Tests? I think it's better to know temperature is quite close to sensor limit than it has already reached. 95th graph mismatch

Hi Adam, I have an issue measuring 95 percentile interface using two different methods. If I go to the Port page for a specific interface and select a date range for example from 2015-07-01 00:00:00 to 2015-08-01 00:00:00 the 95 % for IN traffic is 563.87M Meanwhile if i take the same measure using the traffic accounting for this interface the 95% is 685M There is something I ain't understand? Device Not able to Add

Hello All, I am not able to add 2 devices. These are the longest distance & latency devices in our network 124 ms. I wonder if latency have any play while adding the device. Other than these devices I can add almost all other device. Below is the command which I am trying to use to add the device. I saw a comment in "includes/geolocation.inc.php" about sorting the difference between county and states. I was looking cause i'd like a cleaner looking location menu. so i hijacked a device on the test system and changed it's location to "10 Downing St, London SW1A 2AA, United Kingdom" I see that we have different results depending on who we ask. Geolocation (MAPQUEST) -> [51.503440, -0.127708] United Kingdom (Country), England (State), Unknown (County), London (City) Geolocation (GOOGLE) -> [51.503363, -0.127625] United Kingdom (Country), Unknown (State), Greater London (County), London (City) So a few questions. 1) Is google preferred (especially for people who have sites in a Country that has Counties). 2) Are people happy to have Counties and States on the same level in the menu. 3) Are there countries that have BOTH Counties and States or are they mutually exclusive. 4) Do people need/want the double name entries on the last location menu (two pictures attached to show the difference for what i mean). I have a simple system with ony 38 locations. People may have lots more where this has an advantage. New Statuses Bar Overview Page - shows alerts

Hi All after a recent update there was the Statuses Overview addedd. (I currently run 6812) As of now I see 12 alerts which all translate to Fan State of Brocade Switches and Routers. Please see the attached screenshot. The top two are Brocade CER routers. All devices below are Brocade FCX624. How can I debug this further? Or how can I disable this statuses alert? Thanks Basile

Question about aggregated traffic graph for Dell DRAC

Hi, i have some Dell DRAC's added to observium, and i am seeing some strange things. The aggegrated graph from the overview page of the device gives an error "error Drawing graph". However the individual graphs per port are created just fine. the poller.php -d doesn't give any errors that i can see. Another question is probably about all the metrics received from DRAC, i have a few OSses that have the Dell ISM (Integrated Service Module) installed. This allows the NIC's from the OS to be seen in the DRAC web interface. Would observium be able to read these ports as wel? Tnx! Steffie

Qestion about VLANs tab on switch page

Hi, i also have a question about the VLANs tab for switches. Why are a lot of switchports displayed being a member of VLAN1? because i don't think these ports are in vlan1? On the Ports page for different model switches, there are also differences. For cisco it is able to display the (untagged) vlan, but for some switch vendors it will say in text Dot1Q. Perhaps because the vendor will return a native and a untagged vlan (even if they are the same?) Just trying to understand what i am looking at, and how the interpret :)

In the main overview i see there are 8 disks in the system, but in the inventory tab only 5 numbered items are listed. observium stopped graphing

Configuring map interface on new observium installation

Hi, I have just installed & configured observium for the first time. The first two devices are added and seems working, but I'm having problem displaying these devices on the map. All the time there is a blue sign on the middle on Atlantic ocean, it doesn't matter what I configure as device location. Please any idea how to configure the map? I have tried all the possible configurations at /opt/observium/config.php settings but with no success. This installation is behind a proxy server, but I have allowed all the traffic from observium host and I don't see any traffic from this host towards proxy server. I did the following configuration on monitored devices for SNMP settings as follow: R_TR#sh run | s snmp snmp-server community aaaaaaa RO snmp-server ifindex persist snmp-server location Berlin, DE snmp-server contact bbbbbbbbbb at Observium main page, at location tab, is listed Berlin, DE (or Rome, IT another device) but no indication on the map for both devices. regarding proxy server configuration, at \opt\observium\config.php file I have the following settings: //configure proxy server settings $config['http proxy'] = "myproxy:8080"; with no username and password, because I have allowed all the traffic from observium host and it has internet access, because I did manually update and it worked normally. Please could you send me a sample of a working map configuration? Hi all, my problem is, that a few overall traffic graphs aren‘t displayed, since updating from r6722 (2015-07-21) to r6766. This only occurs with devices that have more than about 100 ports. (These are not incredibly many ports, but in this case the problem occurs in this magnitude.) I tried to update the device by discovery.php and poller.php without success. The debugging message (&debug=1) says that the rrd command fails: RRD_STATUS[FALSE]. When i copy the RRD-Cmd and execute it within the shell, it works fine. Interestingly, for a device with 98 ports the problem occurs only for the large graphs shown (as can be seen in the attached screenshot grapherror.png). Has anyone of you an idea? Restrict config access to users

Hey Adam (and all), I asked about this previously but never heard back. I'd really like a way to give people the ability to see a device but not see the config tab. We've got rancid integration turned on, and I want to give specific users access to see devices, but they shouldn't be able to see the device configs. eth0, vlan, missing port speeds

Hi All, this is a random question, I’ve just noticed on my Observium that the is no Port speeds for any of our Ethernet ports on our debian servers ? but also, the is no Ports speeds for any of our VLAN interfaces on our mikrotik switches either ? I don’t have any event-logs showing the speeds changed or anything? where should i begin looking why the speeds have just vanished? Regards Simon

Design idea

Before we spend to much time setting something up I want to make sure that I was on the right track. We have many wireless ubnt unifi APs and there snmp on the APs themselves sucks. But the wireless controller does have a nice API what print out a json output listing every client connect to AP managed by the controller. The json has the mac, connection time, connection duration, AP currently connection to and much more. The idea is to use the unix/linux agent on the controller to connection to API on localhost and download json and clean data up. The observium can poll the unix agent and chart/display the data. Is this crazy or am I on the right track.

Need more info about Observium and IPMI

Hello Observium community, I am using Observium Professional version and I have some computers that only support IPMI protocol and not SNMP. Observium's wiki is very ambiguous and there is not enough information about usage of IPMI in Observium. Did anyone manage to successfully use IPMI together with Observium? It would be very nice to get more information about this and maybe even a guide on how you add a device that only supports IPMI protocol. Best regards, Henry Collins

Scheduled downtime or maintence

Hi, Ive got a customer location that they have to reboot machines nightly (old Asterisk boxes that have not been upgraded yet), and so obviously this throws a wrench in on alerts. Im not seeing anything in the documentation to where you can schedule downtime or maintenance, like Nagios let's say does. One thing I thought of was disable the poller during this window, then enable it back with a script, pretty janky but that would work for now. Is this something planned on the roadmap and have others shown any interest in this? Thanks

ARP Table Broken?

Hello Community, I upgraded recently (a couple of times this week) and our support desk just reported that the ARP/NDP Table part of observium doesn't load. Nothing errors in the apache error log. When I run poller.php manually it does pull the information. Revision not updating?

But when I try to update it, it says it's running 6706 and there's a new one available. I've done some searching to see if anyone else was having same issue or if it was normal, but came across nothing. Any suggestions? Question about traffic graphs

Hi, My data center bills me based on 95th percentile and Mbps, but Observium shows traffic as bits/second. My monthly allowance is 100Mbps, how would I convert that to the bits/second in 95th? They also state they bill me on bandwidth utilization, not data used. Finally, they state they use 5 minute intervals for data collection, I guess that's also called 'polling' if I'm not mistaken? I could not find any info on how often the data is collected. Just to clarify, if I got the calculation right - 100Mbps = 30TB /mo (rounded off).

RRD graphs legend

Hi All! I was thinking whether there is some way to make the graphs more user friendly. I am talking about aggregated RRDTool graphs that have more data lines in it. One example (as seen in the attached screenshot) is the typical filesystem usage graph of a linux host, that has a legend below it, but as the colors are not quite unique (at more than 5-6 data lines some colors will overlap inevitably) you can't really find out which line is which. If you want to find out which data line has that glitch that you saw in the aggregated graph, there is no other way than looking at each data separately. Is there a way/plan to overcome this limitation? Regards, Tylla

OVS integration plugin for observium available?

Hi, Is there any plugin for observium to monitor traffic that's being handled by a OpenVswitch? We have built an openstack-environment and it's built on openvswitch with neutron, I would love to see the integration to be able to see traffic on OVS-ports. The only option we have today is going zenoss monitoring, from what i've found out there on google atleast. If there's no solution for this I would suggest someone building one as the lack of monitoring openstack and virtualswitches are big. Thanks /Tobias

I attempted the rancid integration from the configuration options. I had a separate rancid configuration that I attempted to modify following the guide that seems to have broken my rancid. Please help. Observium Rocks

Hi, I just wanted to say that Observium rocks. Having just completed 4 weeks of back-to-back network upgrades (replacing most of our core hardware across 4 different sites) we have found Observium invaluable as a means of identifying issues, immediately, for new hardware which has just been installed. As well as spotting BGP sessions with issues, ports with CRC errors, or light levels which are out of scope. Requiring the least information from us, for the most detailed output back to us in return, coupled with a summary of ‘what needs to be fixed’ in a single page. Over the years we have been using it, we have watched it grow from a nice little auto-detecting utility, into an extremely powerful monitoring system. So, rather than posting a bug or feature request, I just thought I’d say thank you to the team who feed into this product. printing page looks weird

Hi All, wondered if anyone has seen there printing page to look like this? for some reason I have the Toner graphs first then the Toner table underneath, but under that again is the Pagecounter and Waste Toner Box ? the page looks laid out weird and incorrectly ? what also weird is the toners for my Ricoh MP C400 is all showing as -nan% ??? and the levels as -3% or -2% i have included screenshot showing what i mean Regards Simon

Hello all, I’d like to thank the developers of Observium, whomever you are. I’ve run up a VMWare Ubuntu server 14.x with Observium to replace an ageing and unsupported Cacti installation here. We're running Many(TM) core, distribution and edge routers and switches and this install is looking at every port I can get SNMP to. We use Enterasys/Extreme and a couple of Cisco devices. The alpha prototype has moved to beta and people here are liking what they are seeing. Soon, with some more documentation, I’ll elevate this to production. So, whilst I have hundreds of switches to deal with, this means thousands of ports to deal with and as any good lazy administrator, I found it was easier to utilise my database development experience and go straight to the databases, which I now offer to the group as examples, yes Examples(TM) for others to learn from. You will require some database knowledge to grok these. Alert emails header

Hi all, Since last update of observium professional version that we did last monday, alert emails are not anymore accepted by our mailing list service (based on Sympa software). After investigations by our mail system administrator, it seems that problem is coming from fields ordering in observium mails header: "From", "Date" et "Message-ID" should be before others fields prefixed by "X-". Another problem is that email address in "From" field should be between "< >". Example of mail generated by observium here: http://pastebin.com/tiJFG10e If we modify this example like this http://pastebin.com/DryMB9MJ, it's correctly delivered by our mailing list service. I suppose that some modifications have been done in observium mail system in last weeks because it's a very new problem for us. Ubiquiti routers and switches

New install testing

I am testing this product. I have only one device which successful added. Everything looks good but for the fact that I see no output on the graphs. They are blank. I’ve seen some replies that say “You installed incorrectly.” Do I need to just go through the installation steps again? Or is there a better way to address what I missed? Thank you, Ryan

Do we need to purchase Professional membership to enable that function? I believe its GBK 150 per year . First CE installation: Authentication issues

Hi!, I just upgraded my home test installation from old SVN version to CE edition and I'm having issues authenticating with http-auth. On the first try I get my own AuthName which has a value of "testing lab" but once I input the authentication info I get another box asking for authentication, with a new AuthName with value "Unauthorised access or use shall render the user liable to criminal and/or civil prosecution.". Can anybody tell me if authentication changed sin the single version times?. Reporting

Your software gets better and better. The metrics are wonderful but I spend a lot of time screenshotting them to send to our executives. Can you put a print button in? Or, even better, CRON a print job to send say a week/month/day’s worth of bandwidth on a specific port or server to an email address? That would be amazing. Or, is that something we could pay for and have added to the version(s) for everyone? I’m on subscription if that matters.

Problems adding hosts

I’m having troubles adding devices recently. In the add host page, it shows blue for SNMP an looks like it’s been added but below that it says that it can’t ping the host. I can SSH to the server and both ping and snmpwalk work. Any ideas?

GeoLocation slightly off?

Hello Community, I've read through the archives and I've got my geo-location sysLocation string working. What I cannot find an answer on is why the Latitude/Longitude insists on being slightly different from the actual co-ordinteas that I specify. As you can see in the screen shot, Observium parses the SysLocation fine and passes the exact correct values to MAPQUEST. Where do the slightly incorrect values come from? Thanks for any help guys. As for now it's not possible to use xinetd with new alert system, i wonder how i can add properly custom data that's will be graph and avaible in checker conditions. I would like add a simple test as custom script that's will download a http page and return 0 if failed or a value in ms for time to download the page. Will add the script in snmpd.conf. Infiniband adapter on linux hosts

Hi all, I would like to know if any of you have been able to monitor Infiniband traffic on Linux hosts with Observium. I have added some nodes with Mellanox cards (MT27500 [ConnectX-3]) to Observium but it seems to see them only when they are configured for Ethernet traffic. I have no issue monitoring Infiniband switches (mostly Mellanox SX6012 ) but is there a way to display Infiniband traffic from a Linux box in Observium ? Best regards, Louis

2960X switches and newer styles of switches have dual speed SFP slots. On my 2960X I have switched from 1GIG SFP to a 10GIG SFP. This changes the ports from GigabitEthernet to TenGigabitEthernet. In the switch config now the GigabitEthernet ports are gone (they get removed from running config) and now TenGigabit Ports are present and in use. Observium still shows both types of interfaces present, and there is none to delete under ports. It also doesn’t show that the TenGig port is up even though it is up. Whats the best way to handle this? Delete/re-add switch? New 6500-E Module

After adding a new 6500 module to multiple Cisco 6504-E (added WS-6816-10G) the module shows up in Observium after being polled as expected. The issue is the module isn’t being updated. Ports that are up are showing as disable/down it is also not drawing graphs as its not seeing it as up. The port is actually up and passing traffic but that is not being reflected in Observium. The only thing that fixes this is deleting/re-adding the device. Q2: Have you checked you're trying to unsubscribe the address you actually are receiving mail for? Perhaps you're receiving mail for an alias rather than your pimary mailbox address? The message headers should tell you what this is if you can't see it any other way (look for "for <email(a)address.org>" in a "Received:" header close to you). If no: Check, and if necessary, unsubscribe again, but with the right address this time. If yes: Congratulations! You are possibly a special snowflake and possibly have an actual problem that possibly requires someone else's help, possibly, and you should have provided all this information up front to prevent being ridiculed... except you're still telling a bunch of people who can do nothing to help you. Mail the list administrator directly (who's contact email you can find on the above mentioned pages) telling them what you've tried to do, and what the email address is that is receiving the mails from the list, and then they can help you. Hello Team, Please can you assist me with the auto discovery. It's not working... :) I read in a mailing list archive dated Nov 2014, that it actually doesn't work? Is this still the case? Can I write my own script that adds devices from the backend? Should I use an API call or can I insert into the database directly? Further to that, 1. What happens if I try to add the same device again? Thinking from an automated system, the same hostname might have multiple interfaces that it is reachable on? 2. Device Alerts on the Frontpage

Guys, I have a question regarding alerts showing up on the frontpage. I have alerts coming to me via email when I have a alert checker looking at the memory going above 50% (testing this operation). But on the frontpage I do not see this show up in either the status boxes or under the device alerts section. I search around and can not find anything that I changed that would prevent this from showing up on the frontpage. I am sure I did something, but just not sure what? Any pointers or direction to start looking would be appreciated. Thanks, Aaron

Linux Memory Alerts

Hi all, We're running PE 0.15.7.6539, it seems no matter what I set thresholds for on memory utilization for cached (I can ignore this..) and physical memory. I can look at the graphs and set thresholds to 90-95% and always get alarms. Any ideas or advice? Dear Observium Team,, We need your support on this, we try to install MIB's from Eltek(power supply tool) in Observium. We did receive the MIB's from Eltek. After install the MIB's and reboot we see that the system is trying to Read the Eltek MIB's but we see that OID's in the system are not recognized. Hi, I run Observium on my home network, so appreciate the CE Edition (CE 0.15.6.6430). I have 2 dd-wrt based switches, and I remember when they were first discovered by Observium quite a while back, they displayed a dd-wrt logo on the device list. This hasn't occurred for a while now, and I just was interested to know if it is possible for this to happen? Screen shots attached fyi (hopefully they won't get stripped). Scaling adjustment for UPS sensors

Hi, Is there a way to adjust the re-scaling for auxiliary UPS sensors? We’ve just been given some external sensors for our Riello units to play with; and whilst Observium can indeed see them, their temperatures are out by one decimal place: [cid:image001.png@01D0B4D2.A73E1560] (it should be 19.5C, obviously) The RH is fine interestingly, and this is only affecting the ‘external’ sensors in the NetMan card, not the built-in sensor. Interestingly, Riello also give out the ‘chassis’ temperature under the ‘battery’ temperature OID, which is why it shows our batteries as 27 degrees, they are not - and this is not Observium’s fault ☺ Anyway, is there a manual ‘tweak’ to correct the scaling for the temperature? We saw the same thing when we tested SolarWinds, so it’s definitely on the HP side. Pending me to get HP to actually fix the bug, can you think of a way I can suppress these messages, either filtering them out or limiting the SNMP response? I see nothing in the system log on either side that would indicate the interface speed is actually changing (link downs, errors) or other SNMP errors, so I’m inclined to think these message can be ignored. Any thoughts? If it’s a bug in the HP SNMP implementation on the VC’s I can submit a ticket. Otherwise I’d like to find a way to suppress them if I can. Configuring map interface on new observium installation

Hi, I have just installed & configured observium for the first time. The first two devices are added and seems working, but I'm having problem displaying these devices on the map. All the time there is a blue sign on the middle on Atlantic ocean, it doesn't matter what I configure as device location. Please any idea how to configure the map? I have tried all the possible configurations at /opt/observium/config.php settings but with no success. Device Storage graphs draw errors when in widescreen mode

Hi, I have noticed an issue with the device filesystems graphs : they do not display correctly in widescreen mode. The RRD command/debug says : RRDTool Output: ERROR: Legend too long But if I paste the actual rrd command in the terminal, it runs fine and the output graph is correct too. It seems to be only happening with the filesystems usage graphs. The failed port filter is broken after update to 6535

Hello there, after I upgraded to 6535, I noticed that the "ports down" filter doesn't work anymore. I have a couple of ports down at the moment, in the status box. But if I click on that red 2, then I get all ports down in the network, including the ignored ones. But I actually have a second issue too. I also noticed that if I make an account for a customer, with restricted access to their ports only, observium will still show them the global regex for the alerting systems, but also forbidden menu items, such as the groups, which give the normal users access to too sensitive information. It looks like the permission filtering in the alerts box is not really working the same way as in the status box on the left, same happens in the menus on top. I had to remove the groups in order to preserve our customers privacy, even though I found them very useful. Is there an available solution for the above already? Hi, Since the scheduled SVN at 06:00 this morning we seem to be getting these for all of our (old, very) 3Com 2948 switches: They occur on every poll, for every port, and are currently spamming the event log. Anyone have any ideas? I've just done a forced SVN up to 6518 but it's still occurring. My guess is it happened around 6514 which was what it was running this morning when it appears to have started. Installing JpGraph blanks out bills page

Hello, I just installed jpgraph to get the bills page to stop prompting the "please install jpgraph" notice, and as soon as I removed the "includes/jpgraph/src/jpg-config.inc.php" file, as request, the bills page stopped loading. It's just blank. I've restarted apache and nothing in the error or access logs are pointing me in any direction. Any help to trouble shoot will be appreciated. All I did was download the jpgraph-3.5.0b1.tar.gz<http://jpgraph.net/download/download.php?p=5> file, unzip it and move it into the specified folder, and remove the config file as requested. PoE support?

I was asked if we could display PoE details on switches and said "I'm sure we can!" and proceeded to find out, no, not quite yet. From what I can tell, support is only partially in place -- is that accurate? I found the global config param needed and set it, and it looks like data is collecting in RRD files, but they are not included in the device display. Is this just an in-progress thing? Hi All I had a look into the Cisco IP local pool MIB, as we have IP Pools on our LNS for the DSL Customers. It would be nice if we could monitor the usage of these pools in Observium. Juniper EX4550 - Snmp issue

Hello, Since 2 or 3 months I have some issue with some of our EX4550. For some reason,, some of the switches are just polling from time to time ( first 2 screencap ) and others are just not polling ( 3 - 4 -5 ) the funny thing is : I don’t have this issue on cacti ( the switches are also polled from Cacti ) I have 3 Junos version running on the backbone and only 3 out of 20 ex4450 have this issue ( and they don’t have the same junos version ). The filter on the loopback interfaces are exactly the same. I can have the arp table, the lldp and bgp/ospf neig but not the if graphing … I already restarted snmp and tried many other thing on the juniper itself. Thanks, Raphael

MySQL App Graphics of only one device don't work anymore

Hi, Today I had to restart a VM and when I checked the Statistics I saw that the MySQL graphics of the VM don't work anymore since last week: [image: Inline images 1] The MySQL Graphics of other devices are working properly but this one. Nothing was changed on that VM ever since. I tried to run the discovery and poller script in Debug mode and I found no errors (maybe I'm blind). I renamed and deleted the rrd Files, deactivated and re-activated the Agent for this specific App, and nothing. Alert Checker Up/Down Dependency

Hey, Is there a way to create an alert checker that will only report devices down if a device they are behind is up? We have remote offices with 100's of devices, and if there is a WAN issue, we receive 100's of alerts from Observium for that location. Is there a way to create a condition in an alert checker that a device (ex: router) has to be in an "up" status in order for devices behind it to alert as "down" That way if the Router/WAN is "down" we would only get that alert, not all the other devices. Example: This Alert Checker only alerts on devices in TN Entity Type: Device Check Conditions: device_status equals 0 Device Match: location match *TN* Entity Match: * Alert Delay 1 Example: This Alert Checker only alerts on devices in CA when the Router (specific device) is "up" Entity Type: Device Check Conditions: A Specific Device status equals 1 // check that office WAN router is "up" (I know this not a correct syntax, just example) device_status equals 0 //check that device is down AND Device Match: location match *CA* Entity Match: * Alert Delay 2 Cheers! Correction of uptime-spikes?

Hi all Im monitoing a Windows server that is scheduled to reboot daily. But the "Uptime" graph is showing odd spikes that cannot possibly reflect actual values. SVN commit mail crashed our mail server

Hello, the SVN commit mail from the observium-svn list yesterday (2015-06-04 16:46:51 +0200) crashed our mail server, most likely because the subject was way too long. I don't know, what script/hook you are using, but the standard in RFC 2822, section 2.1.1. states that "Each line of characters MUST be no more than 998 characters, and SHOULD be no more than 78 characters, excluding the CRLF" The subject of said mail was way over 2000 characters. For now I unsubscribed from that list because I don't want to kill e-mail for everybody in the office once in a while, but can you have a look into this issue and tell me when it is fixed, so I can resubscribe? Alert to monitor cisco ARP table

We want an alert when a new mac address is added to an access port. I did some more research and I got the switch to send a Mac-Notification-Change trap to the server. Is there an easy way to implement this? I am testing with snmptrapd daemon. I assume once the server receives the trap it can be re-routed to syslog-ng and brought into Observium. Switch --> Server (udp 162) -->Script/Program that re-routes -->Server (udp 514) --> syslog-ng -->Observium instance I was also struggling with the TRAP payload, the mac, port index and vlan weren't part of the message. Do I need the CISCO-MAC-NOTIFICATION-MIB? Thank you.

If we don't see the sensor returned in the agent output, it'll be removed. If it reappears, it'll be readded. It's likely a timing thing with hddtemp causing that sensor to be occasionally not returned correctly. Adam. hdd temperature sensor keeps vanishing ?

Hi All, hoping someone has seen this issue I’m having for some mad reason the HDD temperature sensor on one our of servers keeps disappearing ? but whats mad is the event log is showing the Entity as BLANK ? and another mad thing I’ve noticed is when it gets re-added or updated the HIGH and LOW keep getting adjusted to 0, so i have to all the time go and manually adjust the values? is it possible a problem with hddtemp, observium, or something else I’m just missing? I have attached a screenshot showing what I mean regards Simon

Hello, I am currently using an installation of Observium that works very well. I installed rsyslog according to this link : http://www.observium.org/wiki/Rsyslog_Syslog_Server I tried upgrading it for the first time to the most recent version, and everything seemed to work fine, but after a few hours syslogs stopped showing in the web interface. They do still arrive to the machine according to tcpdump. I rolled back the server and it worked again, even for a week now. After upgrading it again it does the same, works for a while and then stops. So I have 2 questions: 1: Where are syslogs saved? In the mysql database? 2: Did anything change regarding to syslog in the major version? I did notice a new logs folder. Thanks This message has been scanned for malware by Websense. www.websense.com

A same rsyslog config for observium + remote logging

I was working on trying to get my rsyslog configuration working with observium as well as preserving my configuration for logging inbound logs to files based on the sender’s hostname so Splunk could eat them. It will not add new ponies in your piggy bank, but will give us opportunity to refuse in the future from obsolete php mysql extension. Greetings! Does Observium support AES256 for SNMPv3 for Cisco Devices? Testing with SHA / AES128 SNMPv3 Authentication Successful Testing with SHA / AES256 SNMPv3 Authentication Fails I would use AES128, but the environment (750+ devices) was already setup for AES256. Thanks in advance! Vic

rrdtool 1.5.3 not working

Hi All, I’ve just updated to new RRDTool 1.5.3, but for some reason I’m getting a Draw Error BUT only looking at network traffic graphs, not temperatures, CPU, etc… the Performance & Output is showing RRDTool Output: ERROR: Unused Arguments "" in command : AREA:inbits0#B6D14B:ether01-efm Rx: Total time: 0.026 | RRDtool time: 0.012s any ideas? regards Simon

Missing graph data

I had a problem with the machine Observium is running on. The CPU fan/heatsink fell off. After I got the machine up again on the evening of 11 June, the CPU Temp graph showed normal temps in the 30-45 range for months, then a big spike up to 115. (eek!) But at least the server came back to life, and I still had all my data. Everything still seems to be running OK, but all of a sudden there is now no data at all in the CPU temp graph before ~1:00AM 12 June. From this machine I get temp readings for CPU temp, Motherboard temp, and 4 other "temp#" listings. "Temp1" and "Temp3" still seem to have the data they should, but the others are missing. One thing I did change after the recovery: I noticed the time zone on the server was set to US Eastern, and I changed it to US Central. I would think if that was the cause of my problem it would hit a lot more of the data.

Adding Custom Information

Is there a way to add custom strings to a device? Ie. I want to add the current version of some linux software that wasn't an RPM install to an object. I have created extended snmp info, but can't find any way to attach that to the polling agent. So the issue is even though I have them set not to poll nor to alert, they still are doing so. What can I look at to see why that would be? Deleting sensors and graphs from a device

Hi all, I have added an extremely pared down copy of a device to Observium and am using it strictly to be able to monitor BGP sessions inside a VRF context. I have disabled all sensors, modules, graphs, etc from the device configuration, but it seems that any sensors and graphs that were created before these settings were disabled are still present on the device’s page. How can I turf all the graphs and sensors and all that stuff from these devices? Thanks!
