how to suppress repeated email again and again for the same down event every polling cycle? (other thank "fix the down issue" ... which probably won't occur before the next polling cycle) any chance for a quick band-aid? e.g. some sort of acknowledgement mechanism, or an incremental counter check that emails just "new" circumstances (maybe a roll-up summary reminder of non-new every X polling cycles) doesn't have to be perfect end-state ... just something to drown out the noise until we get there. thanks for considering. Server error while clicking on ports.

Hi I was running observium successfully since last one year. Recently i migrated my running setup to new server, everything works fine except when i click on ports and inventory options from menu i get server error. I have checked apache log but nothing found except message "File does not exist: /opt/observium/html/favicon.ico" Any clue how can i figure out what went wrong? Incorrect speed of interfaces reported by Observium

Hi there, I dunno if it is already an asked question, but it seems on linux that Observium insist to report links to 10Mbps instead of the real speed. Is there any hack / hint about tell Observium the interface is 1Gps or 10Gps to avoid false alarms ? Kind regards, Xavier

Hi, First of all, awesome tool. I've been using it for about a month now and it's really helped isolate system and network issues. Keep up the great work! I was very happy to donate to the kickstarter project as well. We have a wide variety of platforms that we monitor including Windows but the default Windows SNMP stack leaves a lot to be desired. I've used SNMP Informant in the past and was wondering if Observium does or will support this product. Thanks, Jared

Foundry/brocade support should be quit good. I added support for mem/CPU ages ago. Brocade's own stuff will have no support except standard MIBs at the moment. :-) Adam. Mouse over popups modal proposal

Hello, I don't know if this was already discussedso far, but I wanted to proposea more efficient way of displaying popupsinstead of mouseover (ref: $config['web_mouseover']). Popups should be displayed in a jquery modal style when someone clicksan object likean interface or device, etc. In that way the popup would be displayed properly on the center of the screen and not in the right-bottomof the mouse's position.Well, it would be a nice featureto have the posibility to switch between this two behaviourson mouseover or modal. The boss had me do some tweaks to our front page recently, and we felt that the minigraphs heading got in the way a bit. Here's the trivial patch i created for it. Also has a couple of spelling fixes just because they jumped out at me.

Hi, I´m a beginner with observium. I have been working with cacti but Observium is more complete, I thing I have installed Observium with several devices: One network, One firewall and one server. It collects data very well but Observium doesn´t paint (not look) any graph. Even Real Time graphs work perfectly but the other graphs not [cid:image001.png@01CE7EF2.EB355750]

I also enabled unix-agent at modules for that host And I see it at polling: [mysql] => a0:4033341 a1:4020805 a2:120 a3:120 ... But I still get no images, just the message "Error drawing graph". Bulk Addition of Hosts?

Hello, I'm new to Observium and coming from Zenoss I have to say I love the simplicity and completeness of all the information available. I'm just stuck on one issue. I've added the hosts I want to monitor to the /etc/hosts file and have successfully added a few hosts manually. I've been reading through the wiki and looking through google and can't seem to find a way to bulk import hosts. I tried to script it in the following way (please don't hurt me I'm not much of a coder) for file in `cat routerdt1`; do ./addhost.php "$file" mycomm v2c; done But keep getting: Could not resolve i504562 i504562 being one of the hosts in the list routerdt1. If I run the addhost.php script manually it works. ./addhost.php i504562 mycomm v2c Trying community mycomm ... Discovering i545973 (42)i545973 42 ios (cisco) (etc etc) The file routerdt1 is in the format: I553476 I553500 I553364 I553173 I553274 I542788 I554040 I554398 I554488 Is there a way to take my list and add them into Observium? Am I missing something where there could be an auto add function? Thanks for your help on this, looking forward to using this product more. --Dave

Hello, i recently installed observium and it is amazing. There is one thing i found under "Global Settings". [autodiscovery] => Array ( ... [ip_nets] => Array ( [0] => 127.0.0.0/8 [1] => 192.168.0.0/16 [2] => 10.0.0.0/8 [3] => 172.0.0.0/8 ) Shouldn't the Entry "172.0.0.0/8" be "172.16.0.0/12" ? I know that the question " Can the monitoringintervall be changed, e.g. 5 min to 1 min" was already answered and the answer was "No". I just wanted to note that this is really sad, because 5 min is quite long for a fast changing parameter like Ethernet. We were monitoring a Gigabit-link with different intervalls ( cacti ) , with 5 min, 1 min and 10 sec The results are really surprising. Publish single graphs without authentication

Hi, I am looking at Observium as an alternative / addition to Cacti and it looks really nice so far. One thing I do with Cacti is publish single graphs of bandwidth on core routers and switches to websites (or wikis), so that other people can see that current usage very fast without having to access Cacti. This works by giving a guest (means: no login) read access and then just using the URL for the graph (e.g. .../graph_image.php?local_graph_id=330). The last part is as easy in Observium (../graph.php?type=port_bits&id=150&height=200&width=600), but I don't think there is an easy option to do this without authentication. Any idea on how to accomplish this? Thanks

Here is a hack to get JunOS (potentially others?) to work via leveraging the pseudo Entity-MIB construct from SNMP::Info Bit nasty as you may need to ensure the MIBs required by SNMP::Info are available someone in your mibdirs I'm not overly impressed with the output of this, and at some stage will probably see if it can be improved. The geolocation is performed by a third party, we have no way of influencing it. You could try switching to Google's geolocation. USA States not dected.

Hello All, Just a note a have a site in Trenton, MI not Trenton, NJ its listing them in NJ area on the Map. All my nodes have City,State IE Trenton, MI just something you might want to look at. Also it would be cool to have the ability to limit the map to a "area" like for me just the USA. I just use solarwinds for Alerting and everything else is Observium but it would be nice to have the map not show all the countries. Keep up the great work the new layout looks GREAT! Mike

IP SLA

Hi. IP SLA is not showing any data in the graphs. I have found information of this problem before in the list but no solutions only others having similar problems. Everything looks ok from debug output, snmpwalk is getting ip sla data, rrds is being updated, SLA tab is there, graph with are showing up but with no data ! When doing a "rrdtool dump sla-1.rrd" I find data with future timestamps ?!  <row><v>1.3000000000e+01</v></row>  <row><v>6.0586666667e+01</v></row>  <row><v>6.1000000000e+01</v></row> No other rrd archive is showing future timestamps with data. My rrd knowledge is not very good but I suspect that there might be a connection with graphs not showing data ? My Observium installation work as expected except for IP SLA. Doing daily svn updates. Geographically distributed pollers with poller-wrapper.py

The problem is that the pollers write to rrd's local to the poller box and observium isn't written in a way where these can be easily distributed. I wrote the patch that added that comment as that was my goal. I tested using parallel rsync methods as well as using glusterfs replicated filesystem across multiple datacenters but couldn't get my polling runs + syncing to complete within 5 minute runs (quickest I could get were 8 minute runs writing to about 16,000+ rrds). I have a large number of ports however so smaller installations could probably work. I wonder what the plans are for being able to distribute observium across multiple hosts, geographically or not. Or if anyone else has attempted this. Problem with geolocation

Hi everyone, Been using for some time Observium as a potential replacement for our reporting system and we are now ready to put in production our server but I'm stuck at the moment. I know some people had this issue in the past and some fix were put in place but it doesn't work for me. On a newly installed server, when I try to add a host by addhost.php, the mysql insert query is not going through because the location_geoapi is empty. The easiest way of dealing would be to just allow null value or put a default value, but I would like to have a clean solution as we will use it for production. I don't know if there is something missing in my setup or what, but something I'm sure, the request to get the geo location doesn't go out as I don't see anything on my proxy. So, can someone can help me here? I can provide some debugging if you need more information. Fantastic product by the way, loving it. Adding new OS and types of devices

1) I have some devices that aren't known to Observium that I'd like to track. I've followed the instructions at http://observium.org/wiki/Developing/NewOS and made a new OS type for Ubiquiti EdgeOS routers. Diff here: http://www.tapodi.net/~jda/dev/edgeos.diff <http://www.tapodi.net/%7Ejda/dev/edgeos.diff> Did I do that correctly, and if so, how do I contribute it back into Observium? 2) Is there a preferred way to handle point to multipoint aggregation devices such as DSLAMs, GPON OLTs, and Wireless APs where you have client signal levels, modulation, etc? In particular I'd like to add support for Ubiquiti and Canopy APs where one would track multiple metrics for each associated client in addition to metrics from the device itself. E.g. Stats for the downlink can be gathered from the AP, but uplink has to be gathered from the client radios. Clients are only loosely associated with APs (they are discovered through a AP, can migrate to other APs, and don't have a static IP address). Client devices like this break the hostname-required rule but perhaps it isn't mandatory if they are discovered via the AP? <http://observium.org/wiki/Developing/NewOS>

Problem very LONG poll times

Last night when I went to bed the avg polling on a device was 5-50 sec and then morning it is 300-600 sec per device. My system is a vmware VM with 4 vcpu. 4gb ram and 15k drives in a SAN. Adam, You are right - I have confused ifAlias with ifDescr. Let's say that I have 1,000 Ethernet ports on Access Switches that are for desktop/laptop connections. These are going to be up/down randomly and I don't care. I don't want to investigate bandwidth or errors on them individually ALL of the time. I only want to do this when I am investigating a problem. I cannot Admin Down these interfaces - users need to use them I don't want to gather stats on them - because of storage/overhead/long polling I don't want to manage ifAliases on them - what would I name them - users move and come and go all of the time. I want to include uplinks and crosslinks and the device details only - not the end-user ports. I just want to exclude them from Observium as 'Ignored' How can I do that? Joe

Cisco 4900M temperature sensors not displayed

Hi list, On all the 4900M monitored, inlet and outlet temperature sensors from fixed and removable modules are not displayed as soon as a transceiver supporting DOM and reporting temperature is present in the chassis. I observed this behaviour on two different Observium installation version 4162 and 4016. Anyone else also seen this? Thanks Sidney

NFSEN name mapping

Hello, I am running revision 4151 on debian 7.1 and I am trying integrate nfsen into observium. Unfortunately, the tab does not show up and if I try to manually access the nfsen-tab the graphs are empty with the error "Error Drawing Graph". The graphs are looking fine in the webinterface of nfsen. Therefor I suspect a problem with the name mapping. Exclude interfaces with empty ifDescr

We have discovered only 21 devices and have 3266 ports. We will have over 2,000 devices. I want to ignore ports where ifDescr is null or whitespace. Currently, I have: $config['bad_if_regexp'][] = array("/^$/","","/\A\s*+\z/"); This is _not_ working, or at least it is not working for EXISTING, DISCOVERED ports. Please show me the way! I want to be able to remove the ifDescr from the network gear and have it stop being monitored and vice-versa (add an ifDescr and have it start being monitored). Thanks! I'm sure I just have something messed up in the regex.

Health probe not added

Hi, I have noticed that there's no health (temperature, dBm) measurement for one of interfaces on a Cisco 6500. Other ports are measured, traffic and erros on this port is measured. How to fix that? But what really irks me is the way and style of releasing new versions and committing to the SVN repository. 1) Commit messages. To quickly get a feel what changed between revisions I consult the svn log. That is the primary source of information. In the Observium SVN this often leads me to read things like this: r4147 - CODE, Y U NO LOOK RITE r4140 - Me need your soul, more souls. >:-> r4139 - you're not ready for this. :) r4125 - disable whatever the fuck that is r4101 - add some crappy errors And on and on. Things like that make me question the code quality that is committed to the repository. What kind of project do you want to be with these kind of commit messages? Mind you, I know that many people use cheeky or funny commit messages but normally they include some kind of explanation/context to see what has changed. That's missing here. This hurts the project. It projects an immature image. 2) Follow up to this: How is code quality review done? What are the procedures to decide when code is added to the repository and how do you make sure that the repository is stable for the majority of the users? Also I noticed that you do not separate code and HTML output which is another source of potential problems and accidental breakage. Is it planned to rewrite this to use a templating system? To all, I updated my observium and found out that jpgraph is not coming with the SVN anymore. So I installed this according the instructions I found in my observium installation. Some how the link to the accurate img remains broken, so I could use some help with this, two questions: 1. Is this a known issue 2. Inversing in and out

Hi, I'm looking for a way to reverse in and out position in port graphs. That is, display positive values for outbound, and negative ones for inbound. Negative values in the ICMP graphics

Hello, I'm running Observium 0.13.6.4115 updated today and I see negative values in the ICMP graphics, it also fails to draw the preview images. I update Observium weekly from svn. http://i.imgur.com/xGCoaHJ.png http://i.imgur.com/3Hmtj2A.png The same Draw error is visible in the ICMP Statistics, ICMP Informational Statistics, IP Statistics and UDP Statistics graphics. Setup problem

Hi I am looking to implement snmp monitoring for the servers and network devices we support. I am looking at opennms and observium, and have them both running, monitoring some of our internal servers and devices. Observium is running on debian 7 - Wheezy. I believe I followed the debian specific installation instructions exactly, and Observium is up and running. I have configured it to monitor 2 of our Windows servers, 2 LINUX servers, a cisco router and sonicwall firewall. The initial discovery seems to have worked. However the olling does not seem to be working from cron. Looking at the observium.log > /opt/observium/discovery.php new June 5, 2013, 15:25 - 0 devices > discovered in 0. > 006 secs > /opt/observium/discovery.php new June 5, 2013, 15:30 - 0 devices > discovered in 0. > 007 secs > /opt/observium/discovery.php new June 5, 2013, 15:35 - 0 devices > discovered in 0. > 005 secs > ... discovery is running from cron every 5 mins as expected, but there is no mention in the log of poller.php running. I am sure I have been stupid and am missing something simple. All the graphs have a title Error Drawing Graph, guess that is because there is no data. Any help and advice would be appreciated, where to look to resolve the issues. Richard

Its largely unreliable because it relies on parts of the poller code working properly when run as the apache process. We rarely test it, and a lot of that code is horrific to debug. Adam. I am running version 0.13.6.4133 and noticed that I cannot add hosts anymore. The web interface doesn't error out but when I try the command line I get: PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function getHostOS() in /opt/observium/includes/functions.php on line 497 Can anyone else reproduce that...or advise on how to fix it. Billing started giving unrealistic P95s

Probably somewhere between r3465 to r3981 (yes, I know) billing started producing wrong results. now at 4102, the situation remains the same. I do run the discovery script after each update. Graphs (quick graphs) look fine with real traffic accounted, but the calculated P95 is unrealistically low (something like 1/3 of the real P95, but this ratio is different for each case). Both with single VLAN and multiple VLAN bills. One of the bills (with id=1) works completely fine though. Any ideas where to look at / what to compare at the working case with the non-working case? Hello, I'm running Observium 0.13.6.4110 on FreeBSD 8.3 In our network we have a lot of ExtremeXOS switch, so I tried to write a code for CPU e Temperature monitoring. For Temperature OID = 1.3.6.1.4.1.1916.1.1.1.8.0 "Current temperature in degrees celcius measured inside device enclosure". For CPU OID = 1.3.6.1.4.1.1916.1.32.1.4.1.9.0 "The CPU utilization by system resources. This is the utilization of the system resources in the last 5 minutes". I test the script with: - BD8810 ExtremeXOS version 12.6.2.10 - X460 ExtremeXOS version 12.5.4.5 - X450e ExtremeXOS version 12.6.4.1 - X450a ExtremeXOS version 12.3.3.6 - X440 ExtremeXOS (Stack) version 15.1.4.3 For Memory Observium displayed the status without doing anything. Add ignore iftype

I have many of the following ports on Cisco voice routers with PRI voice lines. I would like add them to the ignore list but everything I try will keep finding them. Am I missing something? This is from the snmpwalk. ifDescr.536 = STRING: EFXS 50/0/400 *** this one router has 400+ of them and they all show up in the router *** ifDescr.537 = STRING: Voice Encapsulation (POTS) Peer: 20208 *** Same here many show up on each router *** Some of the lines I have added to see if it will ignore them. IP SLAs

Hi guys, I’ve just noticed that Observium is showing up Cisco IP SLA targets (didn’t know the feature was there!) – however it doesn’t actually log any values. All the entries IDs and targets are in there (correctly) though: [cid:image003.png@01CE61C9.7B3A9280] It would be cool if they worked (now I’ve spotted it!). They are all recording NaN so I’m not sure if there is simply something not setup correctly on the Cisco side in order for Observium to be able to read it; or maybe if there a ‘supported’ setup of the IPSLA entries on the Cisco I’m meant to follow? The existing config for them is pretty uninteresting: ip sla 139 icmp-echo 10.0.5.139 frequency 10 ip sla schedule 139 life forever start-time now ip sla reaction-configuration 139 react timeout threshold-type immediate action-type trapOnly If a debug would help then I’ll post one, but first I wanted to check if it’s just not fully supported yet (or a known issue). High latency poller performance

Hi All, I've been testing some improvements to the Poller when deployed in high latency situations (polling hosts on different continents, for example). It involved some SNMP tweaks to pull more OIDs per round-trip, but has varying support in different OSes, so we're making it a hardcoded per-OS attribute. It seems to work particularly well on Cisco IOS, IOS-XR and Arista devices. http://alpha.memetic.org/~adama/snaps/fwy8vmmvii.png Shows the performance gains on a selection of Cisco IOS devices. I'll be committing the changes later today, disabled as default. If anyone wants to test them for us before we enable them as default, give us a shout. adam.

As far as I know (and on my test system), all defaults are sensible and should work just as before without changing anything, however some new features appeared, specifically to support active directory. An example config for AD is on the wiki. Nested groups don't work yet, I will hopefully get around to that soon. Thanks, Tom

ASR9k users?

Hi, Just curious if anyone is currently using Observium to monitor any Cisco ASR9k based devices? I can see that it has correctly identified all the various hardware modules, line cards and temperature sensors etc. but isn’t graphing things like temperatures or light levels like it does for our Cat6K workforce. Since this is the first ASR device I’ve tried polling on Observium I’m not sure if it’s just not fully supported or if we have some SNMP restrictions on the Cisco which are preventing it from getting what it needs. Memcached updates

Starting to use Memcached and found some of the current Memcached bits in Observium not working optimally. I wrote a new unix-agent script using python rather than PHP. The previous script relied on PECL memcached but didn't do anything for installations using PECL memcache. After a bunch of trial and error I determined that it was easiest to write the script in Python which requires the python-memcached library and is readily available on different OS types and versions. I also modified the applications/memcached.inc.php and polling/unix-agent.inc.php to accommodate the new script. They will also accurately separate different instances of memcached running on the same server as reported by the script. I'm still trying to work out a couple things. The main thing is when you enable Memcached as an application for a device Observium automatically creates an entry in the database but the instance is NULL. When the unix-agent reports on the Memcached instance(s) running on the server new entries get created in the database for each instance and the app with the NULL app_instance never gets used. I've been manually removing it from the database. If possible I would like to work it out so that it doesn't get created automatically. If that's not possible I was going to look into updating that entry with the first real instance reported by the agent. Also wanting to get the Apps tab for the Device to better identify each instance and maybe work on some additional metrics reporting for Memcached specific stats. Observium is designed for use in a service provider environment with a main design assumption being that one does not necessarily know what one wants to monitor until the data is needed. I work for a small ISP. For the past few weeks things have been running slow on the network. After working on and off of the problem for some time will no fix, I had to take a break from the problem. So I setup a VM running centos, I installed your software (the rhel howto has some mistakes). I then added the core switches and routers, 9 devices later I had the core mapped. After the software was running for 10 mins I started to see a problem. The core router that links up two ISP with BGP was having interface errors. Comes to find out the interfaces was running at half duplex. After fixing the duplex error the network came back to life. SNMP Printer polling

Good morning everyone... Ok.. I have my Canon printers working polling when using jetdirect as the OS type in separate include files in /observium/includes/discovery/os/, I was hoping to make them their own icon, and subset in the definitions.inc.php but seeing as how jetdirect is already declared as its own (I assume string?) (forgive me I am not a programmer)... Can I still make a separate definitions entry code block and split the 'jetdirect' code to a separate entity so I can leave the HP printers stuff alone and do the Canon separately?? Cheers, M.

Try to detect it using sysobjectid. Doing it via sysdescr is discouraged in new code. You can probably catch them all with a single string match that way. Adam. Hi All, I put together a very basic set of scaling guidelines : http://www.observium.org/wiki/Hardware_Scaling My sample size is quite limited, do any of you have useful numbers from large (>10k ports) installations? How much RAM does your /ports/ page take? (mouse over the perf on the bottom bar). How much average CPU load does your system have, and what CPU is it? There is no alerting. The tab is a ui placeholder. You need to explicitly enable the map by adding the freontpage order array. Its documented on the site. Adam. Im positive I added them. What I ended up having to do was check the box to have them ignored, run the poller manually, uncheck that box then run the poller manually again. Now they're working just fine. Hi all, I've been using observium a while ago and since the beginning the tool showed me the graphics like I show you in the attached picture. There are several "white spaces" marked on the time period (X axis), where the tools is not showing information. I read the FAQs section and I found this advice: "I'm getting a blank browser window on some pages, but not others", so I incremented the PHP memory parameter from 128M to 384M whithin the php.ini file but this did not work either so I come to you beggin your advice in order to resolve this problem. Besides I have 90 network equipments monitored with the observium application on a virtual server (6 GB of ram and 3 CPUs 3.0 Ghz). thank you so much for any help Regards

Manually fix bogus RRD data?

I have a router which was running glorious cisco code with a marvelous bug where the number of active ipsec tunnels kept increasing until I put a better IOS on it. So now I have a graph where the ipsec tunnels shoots to tens of thousands of ipsec tunnels, making the long term views pointless. Is there some easy way I can loop through a date range or similar and set the number of ipsec tunnels to some other number (like 10 instead of 22,000)? -- Alex Presse "How much net work could a network work if a network could net work?"

Hi, we have a couple of HP Proliant DL360/380 servers that has hpasm installed, I can get data from: snmpwalk -c public -v2c -M /opt/observium/mibs host.example.com 1.3.6.1.4.1.232 ( http://pastebin.com/JvsNVMhY ) The question is if Observium has support for hpasm? How to completely remove a device

Hey, I have decomissioned a FreeBSD server and then wanted to remove it from observium. I would assume that clikcing on the "delete device" button would do the trick, but alas I still see the server on my device list. I have also tried editing the device and deleting it from there to no effect - it says it isn't there any more. Do I need to remove it and all data concerning it manually from the database and is there an easy way to do that? -Lasse-

New user - Few questions

Hi all im pretty new to observium but i am loving how easy it is to use so far! I have a couple of minor issues though 1) i have added two servers that are configured almost identically and observium has only picked up the lm-sensors info for one of them - is there a way i can force it to get this info from the second server? 2) On the note of lm-sensors - Observium is parsing the output of lm-sensors and treating the threshold values as actual sensors - can i make it just outright not graph these whilst keeping the actual sensor data? 3) I have a windows server added to observium and i am getting a load of ports that i dont care about - same question as above - can i make observium ignore these ports and not even list them/try to graph them? 4) i have unix agent installed on a server exposing hddtemp data but sometimes when observium polls it doesnt detect all hard disks or sometimes none at all (whilst at the same time i confirm hddtemp is working as expected and showing all disks) Any ideas whats causing this? A couple questions..

Hi, Is it possible to change the default ports display for a device from Basic to Details? Also, can I filter the display only to show interfaces that match a certain criteria. ie: Admin = Up, Oper = Up, Type = Ethernet or L2 VLAN (802.1q) or IEEE 803.2ad Link Agg? I find that the default display shows a lot of stuff for interfaces that I'm not particularly interested in, so I'd like to be able to clean that up. I know I can toggle polling on a per-device basis, but I'm hoping there's a method that is a little more dynamic than that. Thanks in advance.

Adam, I may be stupid but… In the legend for the interfaces there is Current Average and Maximum. At the bottom under the interfaces there are two Total rows with four columns. What actually are the four columns? Regards, Adam

Canon printers

Good afternoon anyone... Was just curious as to whether anyone has had any luck integrating MIBS so Canon iR series can be parsed as proper printers and have stats / toner polled correctly?? I was a little spoiled at my last position where all printers were HP / Konica and supported out of the box... Now not so much... Thanks in advance... Matt.C.

Is there a way to have a user (service account) that won't get logged out of the web interface? We want to display this up on big screens in our NOC, but keep getting logged out. Thanks, Wes

We don't generate graphs from any of the default check_mk output. We merely used it as a template to build the Observium agent. To build graphs from any of the data you get from the Solaris agent, you'd have to write code for it. Adam. It won't work on omnios, it is linux-only. We currently have almost zero support for solaris-derrived oses. Adam. IPV6 BGP Session Alerts

Hi I’ve noticed that Observium has a very useful “BGP Alerts” section (among all its other useful sections :-) ) that shows all the BGP sessions/neighbours that are down etc. But it doesn’t seem to show IPv6 sessions. Is this because this isn’t currently supported or is there something that needs to be changed in the config? Thanks in advance. I had a quick look to the code and I think that somethings in includes/polling/q-bridge-mib-fdb.inc.php have to be change for example dot1qTpFdbEntry is not working with my cisco 2960/3750, but dot1dTpFdbEntry does! snmp v3 device add failing

I've got a juniper device i'm trying to add using snmpv3 but running into some issues when running the ./addhost.php script. I can poll the device from observium using snmpget/walk and can confirm that there's no firewalls or bad config on the router. Device not yet polled?

Hello there i changed a complete device (hostname is the same, but different location). Location was not updated. Hmmm, ok, i deleted the device, rm -r'ed rrd dir and re-added the device. Now it says Device not yet polled That's not correct. Device is polled. And the LocationBar does not update the locations. There's only UNKNOWN (1). Bug or my problem? Regards, patrick

You seem to be missing database fields which you should not be missing. I'll check the definition files and make another sql update if needed. Adam. The map is not enabled as default. Check the config documentation on the site. If your main installation's database is desynced, you could just delete it and read all the hosts. I have several ESX 5.0 servers that are successfully polling and returning data from CPU/Storage/VMs, however the system memory is not getting polled/graphed. In my company we have a MS SQL server team managing the DB's but no MYSQL experts. If the integration with SQL Server is supported, I prefer that the correct team manages that DB. One question, I don't suppose there is an 'easy' way to add a category which is made of up two other port types? Like with the default "Peering & Transit" group? Custom port service type?

My port naming convention for core ports doesn't follow the "Core:" spec required by Observium. Is it possible to specify a custom type, or perhaps change the default? I'd love to see my core ports with a click of the Ports drop-down hopefully by avoiding having to reconfigure over 400 port descriptions. I can't see anything in defaults.inc.php and I'm not well enough versed in php to really know how to go about looking through the php code to try and find the answer. My google-fu is failing me too, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Smokeping / Ping Tab - 3rd Graph?

Hi, Just setup Smokeping integration (and generated targets using Michiel’s groovy script – thanks!). Anyway, it’s all working fine for all the hosts but I’m not sure what the 3rd graph on the Ping tab is meant to show, called localhost. It appears on every single host’s “Ping” tab. Have I just failed to configured a hostname *somewhere* or is this graph meant to display something else? When you click on it you just get an “Insufficient Permissions” message, image attached for reference. User editing was turned off a year or two ago because of spam. Running the script on every rrd is not advised. Only run it on things with spikes! I'll have a look at the page. Adam. Hello Devs, I have done some work on Asterisk monitoring for Observium. I had an off-list chat with Adam to help me complete the work and to get the patch applied to Observium. I think he got busy with other work (or just ignoring me :) - it's all good ) so I am looking for someone to help me get this into Observium. I have an almost working code base, I just need some help in getting the graphs to display and perhaps some other work. Its not obvious what the problem is. The spikes seem to be evenly spaced, which is odd. Its likely either a bug in the switch SNMP stack which is returning zero or referring to the 32bit counters, or a network congestion issue caused by a crown job. Do all of the devices have the same software versions? Adam. Checkpoint Firewall Support?

I'm just starting to look at observium for some monitoring. I see that it supports cisco based firewalls (ASA/PIX) but it does not currently support checkpoint. Checkpoint mainly runs on top of redhat linux. I'm able to get the general linux stats but not the firewall specific stats (connections/vpn/etc) similar to what's available with the cisco asa support. Basically, I'm asking if anyone has managed to get this to work. Or barring that, any information as to how to add support? Steve
