Custom port service type?

My port naming convention for core ports doesn't follow the "Core:" spec required by Observium. Is it possible to specify a custom type, or perhaps change the default? I'd love to see my core ports with a click of the Ports drop-down hopefully by avoiding having to reconfigure over 400 port descriptions. I can't see anything in defaults.inc.php and I'm not well enough versed in php to really know how to go about looking through the php code to try and find the answer. My google-fu is failing me too, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Smokeping / Ping Tab - 3rd Graph?

Hi, Just setup Smokeping integration (and generated targets using Michiel’s groovy script – thanks!). Anyway, it’s all working fine for all the hosts but I’m not sure what the 3rd graph on the Ping tab is meant to show, called localhost. It appears on every single host’s “Ping” tab. Have I just failed to configured a hostname *somewhere* or is this graph meant to display something else? When you click on it you just get an “Insufficient Permissions” message, image attached for reference. User editing was turned off a year or two ago because of spam. Running the script on every rrd is not advised. Only run it on things with spikes! I'll have a look at the page. Adam. From what version to what version? What event log entries don't work? What things that you expect to generate email alerts don't work? Hello Devs, I have done some work on Asterisk monitoring for Observium. I had an off-list chat with Adam to help me complete the work and to get the patch applied to Observium. I think he got busy with other work (or just ignoring me :) - it's all good ) so I am looking for someone to help me get this into Observium. I have an almost working code base, I just need some help in getting the graphs to display and perhaps some other work. Its not obvious what the problem is. The spikes seem to be evenly spaced, which is odd. Its likely either a bug in the switch SNMP stack which is returning zero or referring to the 32bit counters, or a network congestion issue caused by a crown job. Do all of the devices have the same software versions? Adam. Checkpoint Firewall Support?

I'm just starting to look at observium for some monitoring. I see that it supports cisco based firewalls (ASA/PIX) but it does not currently support checkpoint. Checkpoint mainly runs on top of redhat linux. I'm able to get the general linux stats but not the firewall specific stats (connections/vpn/etc) similar to what's available with the cisco asa support. Basically, I'm asking if anyone has managed to get this to work. Or barring that, any information as to how to add support? Steve

debian7 interupts raised 10x times

Hey anyone upgraded to debian7 and noticed interrupts raised like 10x times? At first I though it server specific issue, but when I upgraded completely different hardware and noticed same thing even w/o booting into new kernel. So we had at one server about 160 and now 1700, and other server 280 now 1800. Also context switches increased 5-6 times from 500 to 3,5K now.

The existence or not of a hypervisor has little to no bearing on the graphing of the networking counters maintained by the OS. Getting wierd spike graph

Hello, Im having trouble graphing Avaya ERS5530 switches. Graphs generated have very wierd spikes of ~700 Gbps what is impossible. I have other switches drawing graphs just fine. And to get this even more wierder one of my eight Avaya ERS5530 is drawing graphs just fine. Adding MIBs

Hi Guys, I am new to Observium and so far have found it to be very interesting and would like to know if it is possible to extend the MIBs that are used to include Mitel equipment. I have the MIBs and have uploaded them to the MIB direectory but am not sure how/if I can include these in the discovery/polling so that I get all the info from our Mitel PBXes available via these MIBs. smokeping integration no more working ?

i've tried to integration smokeping graphs with observium. i've followed the documentation and add in my config.php : "$config['smokeping']['dir'] = "/usr/share/smokeping/www/cache";" but i can't see the smokeping tab in my devices. devices in smokeping are working perfectly btw any clues?

Quick question on Brocade VLAN interfaces

I'm running Brocade CER routers in my network at the moment. VLAN interfaces on Brocade are implemented as ve interfaces. Brocade for some reason decided not to implement interface counters for ve interfaces on the CES/CERs, so of course I don't get any utilization graphs for these interfaces. Is anyone out there running MLX or XMR? Out of morbid curiosity, do the VLAN interface octet/packet counters work on them? Thanks

Can't add first host

I have tried twice now to set this up, unsuccessfully. I have followed the walk-through for Debian/ubuntu as best I can but still can't get anything to work. I shouldn't say anything. I DO get the webpage and can log in with the user I set-up in the walk-through via command. When I go to the "Add Device" page I get a webpage error at the bottom. Linux agent port change

Hi All, I've just changed the default port for the agent from the check_mk port to a port matching our enterprise id, 36602. There's an example script in scripts/observium_agent_xinetd for xinetd. You can now just use the agent script from scripts/observium_agent. Put it into /usr/bin/observium_agent, as matching the xinetd file. Create a /usr/lib/observium_agent directory and a /usr/lib/observium_agent/local directory. Put the agent scripts you want to run in the local directly. To test it, use "telnet localhost 36602". We're still working on a method of keeping the agent up to date on clients :) For the time being the poller will check both the /new/ port and the original check_mk port, but this will be removed in the future. adam.

User interface access error

Hi all, I give my customers access to observium so they can view the traffic from my switch to their network through their port. This used to work great, but now users can't view their port anymore. I get some access denied errors. Giving access to a device still works, to a single interface not. I don't know since what version this bug exists, my customers don't check their traffic every day. Another issue is that in the "all devices" and "all ports" sections they can see all devices that are being monitored by observium, even if they don't have access to it. A small security issue here. This is all done in rrdtool, so purely graphical initially. It is possible to extract this kind of data from rrdtool in numerical form, but it's quite slow, certainly too slow to do in the poller. Also, I would say in this instance you would set a warning at 75%. Much easier :) Adam. Rancid was obvious because of the extra tab that shows up. How does it work with nagios and smoke ping? To make sure this is the case, agent scripts should have the absolute minimum of code. Where possible, just command output or cat'd files, updating php, perl and python scripts after deployment may prove difficult... :) Adam. Changes made to Devices > Locations

Hello, Seems there was a change in code which effects - Devices > Locations. I had set each device with a specific sysLocation - and checked override sysLocation in the device settings. This was working as expected, until I ran updates - Now instead of having my defined locations - It now shows countries - Canada, England, Unknown and all my stuff is showing up under unknown. Is there a place to read about configuration changes - I may need to re-adjust - or is this a bug - as override sysLocation is now overwritten by something else? Thanks. Sonny

Issue with 95th Percentile for Billing

Hi All, New here. :) I have an issue with the billing of traffic. I want to bill according to 95th percentile but for some reason it is always 0Mbps. It can plot my traffic for incoming and outgoing but it always show 0 for my 95th percentile. Any advise on this? Thanks Poh

While its a great concept, its not scalable. I have Qty 40 of the Cisco 48 port switches and not all ports I care about. These are desktop ports and I care to graph uplink ports only. Even if it does it efficiently, it is junk data that I would never use. What would have been awesome is let Observium discover everything and let administrators decide what they want to graph. Its sad that even though I like the tool, it doesn't fit me because of this limitation(or so called feature). My 2 cents. Sam

I'm in Brisbane (GMT +10). Mac OS X 10.6 Firefox: Observium always converts the time I enter (in local time) to GMT. Therefore my graphs are out by 10 hours. Safari: Won't accept any time info I enter. Always give me the last 24 hours. Chrom: Everything seems to work ok. Windows 7 Internet Explorer: Always gives me the last 24 hours. Same as Safari on OS X Chrome: Everything seems ok. Clicking any of the preset time periods, e.g 6 / 24 / 48 hours, always works ok regardless of which browser/os I'm using. Observium VMs wrong OS version

Reset disk storage values on host

I recently changed the disk configuration on one of my monitored hosts. It seems like the discovery engine is pulling the stats incorrectly and applying them to the wrong disks. Is there an easy way (save for removing and re-adding the entire host) to flush the stats of the storage only? I don't care if it has to completely start from scratch. Subifs no longer showing up for Cisco ASR9K/IOS-XR device after upgrade

Hi all, I've been using Observium since January, and I've mostly been happy with it. I upgraded to 0.13.4.3934 yesterday, and since then, none of the sub-interfaces on a ASR9K/IOS-XR 4.3.0 router are being collected. Originally I thought it was due to an upgrade error on my part, so I deleted the host and re-added it, but the sub-interfaces are not being seen and data not being collected. Let me know what information is needed, and I'll present it. -- Stephen

You could change the entire installation to be 1-minute, change the RRD template and delete all of the existing RRDs, but you wouldn't want to, because that would be a lot of load on your network and on the observium host. Also, your changes would likely be overwritten by a future update, then you'd be stuffed :) adam.

Observium Enterprise/Pro licensing

Hi All, At some point in the future it's likely that I'm going to split Observium into free and enterprise/pro variants. Observium has historically been developed as a fairly ad hoc project, with work being done as time permits between work projects. We've often had gaps of 6 months where there has been little work done due to other commitments. As the user-base expands this is going to become less and less viable a way of maintaining the project, and we need to be able to devote more time to keeping on top of bug reports and feature development. To be able to devote more time to the project we need to establish a revenue stream to be able to support it. We'd like comments from you guys about how we should go about splitting, what should be in each version, and what we should charge. We're considering: A hosts/ports-based licensing scheme, where you get a certain number free, and any more than that requires a license. A feature-based licensing scheme, where higher-value features such as load balancers, netapp, mac accounting, vpn tracking, etc require a license. Licensing for customer-access, where allowing customers access to the web interface requires a license. What pricing models do you think would work? Options for the ent/pro version include using the honour system, maintaining a separate password-protected SVN repository or distributing an ioncube-protected version. I would prefer to go the honour system route, but I'm not sure how well that would work. Thanks, adam.

Long-time user and lurker. Many thanks to Adam and those who volunteer their time on this awesome project. I was wondering if there was a way to modify the polling interval (aside from modifying the crontab entry). I know that there was a lot of work that had to be done to decrease the polling interval from 5 to 1 minutes in Cacti, so I imagine it's not as simple as simply changing the crontab entry for Observium to monitor a switch's traffic utilization every 60 seconds. Has anyone successfully done this? Is there something simple I'm missing to get this to work? Many thanks!

APC UPS and remaining Runtime

Hello, Not sure if I am doing this right (using the mailing list) so please don't kill me if I am. I currently have a APC UPS SMT2200RM2U, and I just recently added it to my Observium panel vi SNMP v2c. I see it logs everything from the current load to battery temp, but I am kind of surprised it does not log Battery Run Time Remaining. I checked in the latest APC powernet.mib file, and there is a function to call this. So, I updated the /opt/observium/mib/apc/powernet.mib to the latest version, but observium still does not log or show the remaining run time, which leads me to believe it is not coded into the script. Just wondering if this is a plan for the future, or am I doing everything wrong? Thanks, Chris B

Polling Rate on a 3750 Stack

Is anyone else having huge response times in their polling of a Cisco 3750 stack? I've increased the number of pollers I have to something close to 17, but my 3750s seem to take forever to respond (anywhere between 200 - 999.99+ seconds). It may be an issue on my 3750s, but my polling intervals on my devices is several hours. I have 2950s and 6509s that don't seem to have any issue responding in a short amount of time (<20 seconds).

I just installed Observium following the instructions on http://www.observium.org/wiki/Ubuntu_SVN_Installation and it all went on with no problems. When I go to the url http://localhost I get the logon for Observium. When I log on, I get the page showing the world map and everything looks good. However, when I click on any link I get a 404 saying it doesn't exist. Ex. when I click on Add User, I get a 404 saying /adduser/ was not found. I look in the filesystem and don't see those directories in /opt/observium or /opt/observium/html. Did it not get all the directories and files from the svc? I did that part three times to make sure. I even look in the svc (http://www.observium.org/svn/observer/trunk) from a web browser and can't find those directories. For the port-based model we would likely exclude virtual ports. It would likely only exist to catch users with 8 vss and 10k ports :-) In terms of support and development, we would likely push all new feature development to the commercial version. Support and feature requests from licensees would be prioritised too. This is already the case for our existing commercial sponsor. Roughly 50% of development work is directly requested features from them. We certainly want to keep the free version usable, and we don't want to separate the code bases, as that would slow progress a lot. I think the balance between keeping everything usable and maintaining a carrot to encourage people to license will be difficult. Pricing is also difficult to decide on. If the majority of users won't pay, it will be higher than if we have more licensees. If every user paid $10, we would probably be fine. I suspect not even 5% will be willing to pay, though. Adam. Thanks that solved. by doing some changes in virtualhost's i followed http://www.observium.org/wiki/RHEL_SVN_Installation this for installation. now my 2 servers listing under devices tab. but on the main page i am getting one "permission denied" error message with red background. HI I installed and configured observium as per the document mentioned on wiki . looks like everything is working and i got the web gui.I added 2 devices. it's showing 2 devices added and it's up.. But when i click on any of the hostname, it's giving the error like "404 the requested URL /devices/ was not found on this server I check on the html directory and the device folder is not there. Access denied to fabric graphs

Dear Adam I was looking at the mac-accounting feature and noticed that it never goes over ~114Mbit/s. Seem to remember that the same thing happend in cacti when using 32bit values. Pagination issue

This was producing 500 errors until I increased the PHP memory to 1024M. Now it is grinding the browser to a crawl. Should this or could this page load only the first 100 entries by default? We have a similar problem with the inventory page, but it doesn't appear to have pagination enabled. I'd like to request that has an enhancement unless it is supposed to already be there and my instance is just messed up. Hi All, At the moment I have an issue that some of my graphs dont show well and something in the overusage calculation as well. - I see no graph for overusage - I see no correct overusage. According to my system a client is using 2,58 Mbps (1 allowed) and the overusage is 2,58 Mbps as well. Is this a familiar issue ? I might have remembered wrong. There is as graphs array populated by modules which defines things in the graphs tab. The ucd modules do this. The graph defs are a huge section in either defaults.inc.php or definitions.inc.php. LDAP Configuration

Hey everyone; Answers so far have been wonderful. I've been pouring through the archives trying to find a good example for LDAP Authentication, and I believe I have the authentication portion working correctly, however security permissions in Observium aren't working correctly. If I provide the correct credentials, it lets me through but the main page has no content. If I provide incorrect credentials, it spits me back out to the login page. The structure of the containers is correct, the AD Security Group 'Network Ops' is the group our Network Management team uses, so I want us to have full access (level 10), and is located in (Canonical name): hh.nku.edu/NKU/HH/Groups/Security/Network Ops I've tried it with 'Domain Users' instead of 'Network Ops' but no dice there either. And yes, I have double-checked that my account is a member of the 'Network Ops' group, I didn't get fired today. My level 7 and level 1 groups have been commented out just to try and simplify any issues. Next to the rrd requirements, you may want to put some pruning in place for the eventlog and syslog tables. Size of storage per device depends on what is monitored on it. Observium uses red, which is fixed size round robin database. You can find information about how it works online. Perhaps we should document this too. Data usage for a single host shouldn't grow over time, except event log entries and the like. For an installation of that size you might want to use ssd or solid state ram drives. Hey everyone; I mentioned in a previous e-mail that we're rolling out a deployment of Observium, and we absolutely love the product. I know that it's designed as a historical data gathering tool, but I am concerned about the storage requirements for the system. I have approximately 600 routers and switches on my campus, and eventually would like to get my servers involved (pushing the device count beyond two-thousand), and I'm concerned at the storage requirements for this. I couldn't find this information anywhere online, so I figured I would check with you guys. Does Observium have any kind of roll-over archiving for device history beyond a certain point, or will it continually just grow the data in the files?

Interface counters update much quicker. Probably 500 times quicker than even packets in net stats. Hey, So I just wondering is this normal when some of your counters wrapped (huge peak) while others are perfectly normal? I have device running for 1 years, 103 days, and only interface graph are wrapped while netstat are just perfectly fine. snmpwalk seems report that HC counters supported, device running 12.3 IOS.

Hello List, I'm testing observium to monitor network devices in our datacenter, I've added a range of different devices and it seems all good, but today it has given me a false notice about a couple of nexus 5000 that are reported as "rebooted" while the switches are correctly reporting uptime of more than 600 days... All the other hosts are reported without errors, apparently. I've looked in the mailing list archive and I found similar issues, with server, but I understand that was something resolved. Where does observium takes the info about reboot? Observium is installed in a VM: Observium 0.13.3.3824 Apache 2.2.22 (Ubuntu) PHP 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.6 MySQL 5.5.29-0ubuntu0.12.04.2 RRDtool 1.4.7 Thanks, Stefano

IPMI issues

Hey guys, Its me, again. This time I'm wondering what's up with the IPMI feature? I gave my IPMI a hostname in /etc/hosts and set the proper username and password, and it's not showing any data like CPU temperatures.I have a feeling its not even polling anything from the IPMI. I have the Module called ipmi enabled on global and the device itself. The FAQ didn't seem to provide any info related to IPMI usage. Thanks.

Observium png files

Hello, I can see that png files are being created in the /tmp directory. However the rrdtool graph command is trying to access non-existent png files. The result is no graphs being displayed. Is this related to the strgen function ? Is my system somehow converting the random names of the png files to another name.png ? non-programmer.

Nope. The file is deleted after it is accessed, so you never knew it was there. There is a bug which doesn't delete them sometimes, which is why you see them. You probably need to reinstall and follow the install guide properly on a supported platform. Adam. Hi there, I am a new user to Observium and seem to be having an issue with the options for "Ports" on a device. I currently have 2 devices hooked up, working fine. The problem is when I edit the device and go to edit the Threshold and PPS settings, they never save. I tried both the Save and Save changes button. I used this guide to install Observium (http://www.observium.org/wiki/Ubuntu_SVN_Installation). The only I changed was instead of doing addhost in the command line, I did it on the website instead. Other then that, I didn't touch anything else. The server is dedicated to Observium and is running Ubuntu 12.10 (32bit). I noticed the FAQ had an entry which seemed related (http://www.observium.org/wiki/FAQ#When_submitting_large_forms_such_as_port_…) but I didn't find that error in my PHP error logs. I have followed the installation guide for Red Hat 6 x64 on a virtual machine, however, when I attempt to add a router (Cisco 6509 using Advanced IP Services 12.2(33)), it fails to add: ./addhost.php routerDNSName observium Trying community observium ... I've not worked with SNMP much before, but I can say that this device did run SNMP correctly, as Ciscoworks is able to detect issues, and it is listening on UDP/161. Any help for troubleshooting this would be appreciated.

Hi Tom, A few Comware-based HP switches have been detected as ProCurve recently as well. I think it's due to bone-headed changes by HP in the sysDescr string they're returning (because, contrary to your commit message, everything HP Networking must be ProCurve-branded :-). Hello, It seems that more and more Linux Distros are stepping out on MySQL and replace MySQL with MariaDB. The reason for this is that they dont have a good feeling about the plans that Oracle has with MySQL .. So my question is, is there a roadmap for observium regarding a migration towards MariaDB? Hi, Observium 1) I wonder: is there a searchable version of the mailing list archives somewhere? 2) I need some hint where I can change the behaviour of observium to cut avay domains after the first dot - we used subdomains to segment our hardware so now all devices are called the same on the overview screen. (alarms / events) Example: switch1.site1.country1 switch1.site2.country1 switch1.site1.country2 and so on.. (I know it's boring but we ran out of elven names at one point...) ;) on the overview page they would all be called "switch1" when I go to "devices" everything is just fine can this be changed somewhere? could not find in config.php and don't dare editing the other files thanks! Observium Virtual Machines wrong OS Version

Observium Network Discovery

Hi All, - How actually network discovery works for observium ? I mean do I have to just enable SNMP with same community and same Snmp version on all my devices so that observium can discover my whole networkor I jus have to add of single device name in config.apt and whole network will be autoatically discovered?..... and does observium also show me the whole map for my network ( connectivity b/w my devices)? and most important do i need to make any device as Seed device for my network ? from which it will automatically penetrate to whole network...Further more after discovering of my device can i filter those graphs so that I can only plot useful or main graphs - Can I also make groups to those graphs I mean is it possible that I can make a separate tab for my roters and the \n separate tab for switches etc. Thanks Rizwan

VMware ESXi hosts missing information

Hi all, I'm using Observium r3791 to monitor a few VMware ESXi 5.1 hosts along with a mix of servers and network gear. All seems to be running well, except for the ESX hosts. When Observium polls the ESX hosts it seems to be missing a lot of information due to missing MIBs: My /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf has the mibdirs line as per the installation instructions. mibdirs /opt/observium/mibs It seems if I copy all of the mibs from the /opt/observium/mibs directory to /usr/share/mibs, then the poller seems to run OK. Hi all, I have a zfs filesystem on OpenIndiana that is 25 TB and occupancy is around 90%. Observium correctly recognizes most of the OpenIndiana features, but the size of this filesystem is reported around 1.5 Tb. Is there something I can do to fix it? Thank you!

Application Stats

Hi!, what's the state of application data collection?. I had stats for mysql and apache on my original install, but after it's reincarnation the application collection doesn't seem to work any more, was that moved to the unix agent? We would like to include application counters to observium and most of them are custom developments. Today we have cacti installs everywhere, but having all that info in one place would be great. Hi!, I've been running Observium on SLES11 for almost a year. This was on a 8 vCPU + 2GB RAM VMware guest with a 30GB RRD footprint. After adding about 320 new hosts (all of them, network gear) the RRD database went to 130GB and the little machine got peaks of 3k IOPS. The I/O wait was rather hi and the machine would suddently stop responding (Hypervisor stats showed 0% CPU usage). So, I've migrated the installation to a physical machine running Solaris 11 (I know, it's not supported) and without any tunning (mysql/zfs are candidates) I'm seeing polling of 41 devices in about an hour. Trying to get some assistance on integrating Smokeping into Observium. Unable to get the ping tab to appear under my devices. I have read the documentation and seem to have everything in order. Not sure if it is just the way I have the devices named or something else. Smokeping's html files are located at: /var/www/smokeping/ I have edited Observium's config.php to include the following: $config['smokeping']['dir'] = "/var/www/smokeping/"; Observium is using identical hostnames to the ones from the Smokeping config snippet below. I can access the Smokeping webpage and can verify it is working properly. Verifying timeouts

We've been using observium for well over a year now and extrememly happy with it. We have devices all over the world and recently started to see some strange reboot, high cpu loads and device up/down messages when the devices appear to be ok I recently noticed it seems to be the ones further away. I noticed the log really doesn't specify anything specific and my php skills are not up to snuff so I was wondering how would one go about verifying if we are seeing timeouts on the polling to know the best way to rectify the situation we are experiencing. Can someone verify is say the timeout of a cpu poll would actually how max cpu load? Thanks, Bryan

First of all, thank you for the gr8 product and keep up the good work :) I am using observium in a small infrastructure (ESXi servers and linux appliances with snmp enabled) and I am facing two problems: -monitoring ESXi performance metrics - those are not exposed via snmp, so I have installed VMware CIM binaries to query the host machines. However, I am not aware how to pass data to observium afterwards and get a performance graph. -graphing data from a custom snmp OID ( snmp exec or extend) Thanks in advance! pfsense device id not working in v.3716

i recently did an upgrade from version 3476 to version 3716. today i added a new pfsense device to my install, but the device id isn't recognized. i confirmed the error on a different install of observium with the same version. see attached screenshot. is it a bug, or is it just me? :) br stefan milo

Custom Logo with latest SVN

SysUptime issue

Hiya, We've noticed that Observium is reporting that devices have rebooted even though they haven't. It's happening at the 496 day mark and so we're assuming that this is related to the 32bit SysUptime counter limitation. I noticed though that there is a section of code which says: // Use snmpEngineTime (68 year rollover) to cross-reference for false // positives in device rebooting due to sysUpTime rollover issues so I presume this ought not be happening. I can appreciate that this is a difficult one to test. Or rather, it's easy to test but has a *really* long debug cycle :-) We're currently running 0.13.2.3559. Here's the output from a device which observium recently reported as having rebooted: SNMP-FRAMEWORK-MIB::snmpEngineTime.0 = INTEGER: 43016530 DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (6689166) 18:34:51.66 If you want any more information just ask. Given the number of devices we have with uptimes around 496 days we can probably do a test every few days. Poller debugging

Hi, I've checked around for some docs on this subject but I'm coming up empty. Not sure if I'm looking in the wrong spot or if they just don't exist. I'm noticing the odd gap in all graphs for a particular device, and only that device. The two gaps in the last 24 hours seem to have lasted about 15 and 30 minutes, respectively. This is the first time I've seen these gaps on this device, but I did upgrade the code on this box last week. I'm convinced it's a software issue on the router I'm polling, but I need some ammo for the vendor. To that end, I'd like to enable some debugging that will show what the poller is reporting (or not reporting) when it hits this device. My hope is to catch something useful in the debugs that I can bring to the vendor. Any hits appreciated. Thanks!

Platform change on existing device

Hi everyone, we just replaced one of our core routers and therefore changed platform from Cisco to Juniper. Whilst the interfaces got discovered correctly, Observium does not detect the change of the device/platform itself. Also the full discovery, which runs every few hours did not notice. Is there a way to rediscover a device without deleting it or will there be any feature like "platform change detected" during the full discover in future? It depends how big your installation is :-) Like all things, you need to scale your own installation. We now do more caching instead of repeated lookups, requiring more ram on large installs. Adam. Juniper BGP Prefix Graphing Issue

Hey Guys, I have just started using Observium, so far I think it's great! (Good work) I have however stumbled across an issue with BGP Prefixes on my Juniper J2320. When I do a debug on discovery.php and poller.php (after adding the host) it appears that it is extracting the correct information for jnxBgpM2PrefixInPrefixesAccepted and jnxBgpM2PrefixInPrefixesRejected for both IPv4 and IPv6, however it only seems to graph the prefixes from only 1 of my peers (they have 2 ipv4 and 1 ipv6 session with me) so I am seeing graphs for these 3, but not any others. In the debug information I am also only seeing an update for the graphs that are working. Traffic bills

Hi Adam About the traffic Bills. After a month is billing period is completed will the data be preserved even if interfaces are added/removed from the billing? The reason I ask is that it is a hassle too keep track of aggregated usage of things like Peering/Infrastructure/Transit as you constantly upgrade and move things around. Aruba feature request

What would be handy for us is to have graphs of not just the number of clients on our Aruba M3 controllers, but the number of .1x clients and the number of captive portal clients. This could either be separate graphs or combined with the 'number of clients' graphs. Don't mind really. Discovery of large stack causes hardware to become unresponsive

Hello I are testing Observium in a new environment after previous success stories elsewhere. We have noted that when we run device discovery on a stack of 5 Cat3750 (12.2-50-SE1) the "device" becomes unresponsive to any other queries / pings / ssh for approximately 5-6 minutes (during the discovery cycle). Once the discovery is complete, the poller, pings, and other operations return to normal. Note that traffic flow does not appear to be affected across the switch. Total ports on the stack are 278 (no argument that it is a large number of ports to poll from a single device). Regular polling of the device does not appear to have any consequences, it is specific to the discovery module. Does anyone have any insight into this? Thanks Patrick
