Hallo, I have added SNMP devices in groups (Country, City, Address). However, when I filter a specific device using locations (e.g. Locations -> Country -> City -> Address), then I get the message that 'No devices found Please try adjusting your search parameters' (seen in attached photo). Possibly Alert filter bug?

Hello We have some Check Point firewalls and if i make an Alert check to their memory usage and try to associate it to these firewalls, after the SAVE CHANGES the check doesn't shows any associated items even if i set the hostname directly or use the exact hardware type of it like the attached pictures. If i add the "Device Vendor in Check Point" it shows our other Check Point-made firewall but not that is in the attached picture (where the hardware is 15600 or the hostname is **fw01 . Is it a bug or just i made a mistake? Thanks Laszlo

observium enterprise doesnt word after installation

We just had 1 year of subscription license observium Enterprise, ref: 4011610 We are completely new on this monitoring tools and really need your support for the installation. Our standard is debian 11, and we proceed on the manual installation as the script on the observim document doesn’t work (script automatic installation for debian 10) All the package are installed, observium seems to be installed following the guide (SNV username/password inserted) but *when we access the observium via GUI, the apache default page is shown instead of observium page* We already remove the apache (2.4) and then reinstalled and configure but the same result. Could you please help us on that or redirect me on the right support as we are turning around on this issue for a few weeks Thank you -- *Toky *

Probes from remote collectors

Hi, I have added probes under a hosts that is a remote collector (ICMP for now) but I don't see that hosts actually sending the data. The master observium is doing the checks not the hosts the probe is tied to. When I go add probe I am choosing the other remote collector hosts and it shows up under that hosts when I go look at the hosts but those checks are still originating from the wrong place. I guess the "hosts" refers to which hosts would be used as the default %HOSTNAME% variable? If so, is there any way we can get these checks to launch from the collector and send data back? Thanks

Remove decommissioned poller

Hey guys, i am trying to monitor two things in a port, if is operational up with “ ifOperStatus notequals up” but if I set it up to all my switches, it sends 2221 (literally) emails regarding all the ports available in my networks. How can I specify certain ports in certain devices. The other one is to be able to see if there is “traffic”, the scenario is we have a several mikrotik devices connected to DSL modems, but we need to see if the DSL service is up and running and get a notification if this port / service goes down. Panduit Smartzone PDU support request

Hello, We have a lot of Panduit SmartZone G5 iPDU devices but as i see the Observium not fully supported it. We can see only the basic parameters (uptime, name etc) but not the outlet's usage and another PDU related things. Empty alert check page

Hello After i upgraded to 11518 (from a 106XX) the Alerts check page is empty. I attached a picture about it. Looks like sometime some page can generate (so example after i press a rebuild or check any category like Devices or Storages sometimes (1 from 10 times) i got the list and all alert listed on the left side, but offen the page is just empty. Looks like every other things working, just the Alert check page is empty. Br Laszlo

JunOS Fusion and satellite

Hello, We migrate one part of our equipments to JunOS Fusion Provider Edge. That permits us to have one Juniper MX chassis with a satellite (like Juniper EX or QFX) which is seen as like a linecard of Juniper MX chassis. But I have the impression that Observium can't detect sensors, COS or hardware for ports on this satellite. On CLI, we need to add the keyword "satellite" in commands to see optical level, hardware list. Maybe for satellite mode, the SNMP MIB was different (FPC number for satellite starts at 100). Hello, after todays update to 21.7.11497 (stable) i cannot enter the observium using my correct credentials. Even when cookies cleared or incognito mode is used. On the Authlog i see Authentifcation failure. >From browsers like FireFox i can enter. It's very strange. Any idea ?

Workaround for vlan Permission

Hi guys, i am wondering if there is a way to give Permission to a specific user to see all vlan I mean the following path: https://domainnam.com/vlan/, without giving a global Read I tried throw Group Permissions but the issue is, that I cant collect all vlan in a group, because vlan is not an Eintitiy in Obserivum. Am I missing something when adding users? Do you have to add each device to a user? Is there anyway to just allow all devices? The issue we are having is each time we add devices we have to login and modify the users everytime we add devices, which you can imagine is a nightmare. Thanks

host_id in pollers table

Hi, We have a image we have been deploying at remote sites for the poller. This was a clone and added a new site and running into issues. Looking at the poller table I see the hostid in not different across some of the hosts, assuming his because we cloned the image. What is this hostid referenced from? We made new SSH keys on each host but there must be something else this from and not really sure how to change it. Thanks

Change default sensor thresholds?

Rather than changing all of them manually, I would like to do a global change for these. Is that possible? Unable to poll a once working Device

Hi there, I have multiple environmental Devices which are working fine for years now. A view weeks ago one of was shown as unable to poll. A SNMPwalk for the Device works fine. I've tried to add the device via it's IP no luck there. I've rebooted the Server and the Device multiple times. I flushed the DNS cache. Attached are the debug Output of a poller run of a working Device poll_tempboxnl.txt and of the non-working Device poll_tempboxnz.txt as well as the discovery and snmpwalk output. xxx_tempboxnl.txt working. xxx_tempboxnz.txt not working. Unable to create Alert Checker

Hello, I'm having a strange problem creating alert checkers. I first noticed this today and updated to the latest edition: 21.7.11450. I'm working on a test server and was attempting to re-create all of the alert checkers currently on my production systems and then add a few more; I would like to monitor power supply input state as well as air intake temperatures and produce alerts when a power supply is "down" and when intake air temperatures go above something like 45C. This has been prompted by some problems lately where power redundancy was lost and where we had an air conditioner failure. An earlier warning than having the hardware go into thermal shutdown is very much needed. So on my test server I can go through the basic process of creating the alert checker; alert checks -> Create new checker. In this case I click BGP Peer, fill in the name, message, use 1 for the delay and the conditions: bgpPeerAdminStatus notequals stop bgpPeerState notequals established Unfortunately, when I click "Add Checker" nothing happens. I've verified this is not likely the browser or is something pretty universal to all of my browsers because I can duplicate this in current versions Firefox, Safari, Opera, and Chrome. Both Opera and Chrome are fresh installations done today but I did try disabling all extensions in Firefox and Safari to see if those were a problem. I searched through the documentation but couldn't find anything about browser compatibility or known conflicts. This used to work but it's been quite some time since I've wanted to add new checks. APCu Caching not working?

I have noticed that when I enable webUI caching, that the page loads don’t speed up. It regularly takes 3 seconds to render a page, although the tool tip at the bottom shows APCu caching is enabled. However, if I force the cache driver to “files”, then I see a huge speed up (page loads drop to about 100-200ms). Is there some extra config to get APCu working correctly? I didn’t see anything in the docs, but I could have missed it.

Distributed polling

I was looking at the distributed polling feature as we have a geographically distributed network and polling slow devices from half way across the globe takes a long time. It turns out that putting a poller closer to the device doesn’t actually help. The SNMP polling times go down a bit, but the SQL times go up a lot because there are hundreds of SQL queries that get run for every polled device. This can easily add another 1-2 minutes to your polls depending on how many metrics are being polled. So, it seems to me that the distributed feature only works if the poller is still reasonably close to the database, otherwise the latency per query eats up any gains you might have from reducing the SNMP latency. Are there plans to try to reduce the number of queries a poller makes to make geographically distributed polling less latency sensitive? Cheers Milton

Hello, we want to create alert checkers for entities (mostly storage entities) which are only assigned to some entities in special groups. Building the groups is possible but it is not possible to add a association rule based on entitiy group membership. it is just possible to do it on device group membership or entity attributes. There is no entitiy / storage group option. Any idea how to solve this? Missing information in alert emails

Hello, Since we've upgraded Observium to the latest version (21.6.11399 (stable)) the alert emails we receive are missing information for most of the devices. Prior to the upgrade email alerts looked like this: After the upgrade alert e-mails look like this: We can revert the virtual machine to the state prior to upgarde but we'd prefer to have it running the latest version of Observium. RANCID integration question

I'd like to integrate our RANCID install with our Observium install, but the "generate-rancid.php" script includes over 100 devices that we have SNMP access to but not SSH, and excludes some other virtual devices that I do want to include. The script appears to simply key off whether the device is classed as "hardware" or not, which isn't adequate for us. Are there any enhancements to that script on the wings? If not, can I just manually edit the generated list and never re-run the script automatically (despite the warning in it)? Thanks, -Adam

Option to Ignore Device Down due to DNS failure

Hello, We have had a couple incidents where for one reason or another Observium has been unable to resolve DNS. This generates hundreds of emails saying the entire network is down, and again when it comes back up. Is there a way to tell Observium not to alert when a device is failed due to DNS lookup? Performance tuning

Hi We have one Observium server looking at * 476 devices (mainly switches, some firewalls, some WAN routers) * 3666 ports * 8692 sensors The server has 6 cores (~70% idle, ~3% iowait) and 8 GB memory. We have configured 15 poller threads with max 6 allowed wrapper processes. The server is struggling to keep the polling cycle below 300 seconds (averaging 376 secs). Is this workload realistic for one server, and if so where do you suggest we tune? Or do we need to use a distributed setup? Dear Observium community, I usе Observium and the more I use it more I love it :) I use the Observium syslog interface for pushing to Observium syslog alerts. For now, I am developing customer personal web service where they could see their telecom services on the map with nodes states like ok, critical. There are on the map presented only part of the telco network their services go through. By API I get nodes' location and state so can show it on the map with nodes connections from my customer database. Except for alarms Observium gets by syslog integration. Is there any way to get syslog alerts by API and device id? I could analyze syslog alerts and set proper node status by syslog alerts if they are accessible. As I know it is impossible.

Observium device discovery

I have a Cisco 9130axi AP that is running in embedded controller mode. I am not able to monitor traffic or user statistics on the WLANs like I did with my WLC2504. I do not see any wireless related MIBS attached to the device. Is there a way to force discovery for certain features or MIBS? Or do I have to add my own custom OID? Chris

Observium Backups

When backing up rrd with tar zcvf observium-rrd.tar.gz rrd I get the following message: tar: Removing leading `/' from member names Is this OK or should I use the --absolute-names option? Also I am getting some messages saying file changed as we read it. This is understandable but do i need to do anything while running the backup to stop this from happening? Thanks in advance.

CBQOS Class Names only show "/"

Hello, I am a new user testing out Observium as a means of monitoring Cisco Class-Based Quality of Service (CBQoS). I have successfully added devices running Cisco IOS-XR 6.6.3 to the system for monitoring. However, the CBQoS tab of my device's ports is currently not showing any name for the different classes of policy maps applied to the ports. Instead, where the name should be, there is only "/ (output)". See attachment for screenshot of this issue. Hi All, I noted that you can enable paging on the devices pages, but is there a way to enable it on other pages that I have missed ? We have massive load balancer pages that are now causing browsers to crash (had to give the server 32gig of ram to render said pages :) ) Or even a search page would do - anything to make the page smaller :D Thanks !

Optimisations for huge lb_pools

Hi Guys, We have some pretty large lb_virtuals (12000 entries), lb_pools (180000 entries) tables. I found that the poller was struggling to keep up with this (understandable IMHO). What I did find was MySQL appeared to be the bottleneck so after some debugging I added the following indexes: create index lb_virtuals_idx_1 on lb_virtuals (device_id,virt_name); create index lb_pools_idx_1 on lb_pools (device_id,pool_name); create index lb_snatpools_idx_1 on lb_snatpools (device_id,snatpool_name); The middle one had the biggest impact, since that is the biggest table. Here is the polling result showing the difference: Time Duration 2021-04-29 17:05:02 56s 2021-04-29 17:00:02 4m 19s Hopefully this can help someone else if they have an issue like this (I hope not for your sanity :D ) or perhaps the devs can advise a better way of doing it :) P.S. - The issue was that polling kept running over each other and that cause it to spiral out of control, data gaps where getting bigger and bigger and MySQL was pinned at 250-300% CPU (4 core box this) Cheers, Pieter

New Port Alert Checks Not Working

Hi all I configured a port alert check and set test condition to "ifOperStatus eq down" and asssociation ruleset to "Port ifAlias match *!!!*". I can see entities (276 ports) are matched correctly but are listed without the device the ports belong to. Status of alert never changes from "0 0 0 0 276" It seems associations works fine but checks aren't executed no matter which association and conditions I try. A much more complex port check I configured years ago is working fine, new ones aren't. I'm on 21.4.11258 Thanks a lot Andre

Is there a bug in the installation script? I tried to use the installation script for a fresh install on Debian 10.9. The script said I had Debian 9 and aborted. I made a fresh install av Debian and tried again. The same result. I have Debian 10.9 and the installation script says Debian 9. Is this a bug or what is the problem? ES

linux persitance SNMP indexes

Changing some devices to only poll every 10 or 15 minutes temporariliy?

Hi all, I have a bit of an oddball one, hoping it's not horrible to be able to do... We have a few devices which have recently started taking > 5 mins to complete polling. This is leaving large gaps in our logs, and is also effecting discovery (as the polling of the devices are piling up on top of themselves and pushing load on those devices up heavily). For now I've just turned off polling on those devices, but that's not ideal either.. Is there a way to be able to just poll those manually at say 10 or 15 minute intervals? I shoved them into a group and excluded that group from our polls - and then ran poller.php -h deviceid on one device in cron every 15 mins to see how it would go - but we just get no graphs.. Also as a test, tried using rrdtool tune --step 900 to change the step size to 15 mins, but also no go (didn't really entirely expect it to..) Is there a not-horrible (or if it has to be, I'm ok with horrible in the short-term until the vendor can figure out what on earth is going on..) way to get these being polled on a 15-minute interval and also going into rrd's? Unable to delete alert checkers

Cant delete an alert checker. When I click on Delete the confirmation prompt comes up and the checkbox is already selected but the delete alert is disabled. Unchecking the box enabled the button but clicking it doesn't delete the alert. Fix for small issue in poller-wrapper.py

Hi Team, Been pulling my hair out for a large chunk of the day trying to sort out why our Huawei devices stopped polling after I split out polling run into two lots (one excluding the huawei devices group, one including it) Seems that when you enable debug with poller-wrapper.py<http://poller-wrapper.py/> (-d), it's passing a string to substring.check_call rather than a file, so it throws an exception and doesn't run the poller. No graphs for 64bit network ports on arm

Hi All, Ive spotted a few weird issue with my new setup running on arm? 1. The first 4 ports on our TPLink switches are being detected as 64Bit and then the rest of the ports are 32Bit ? 2. the 64bit graphs are showing 0 for everything, even though the output from the command line shows stats? Syslog Integration

We recently implemented syslog integration. One thing that we miss however is having the logs in the syslog file. It's great to see them in Observium, but there are times where it's easier to grep the syslog file itself to see what's going on. Is there a way to keep the log entries in the syslog files, and still deliver copies to Observium? Thanks Shawn

Disable netstats for device type

Hi! We have a large number of 'Geist' PDU devices, each of which takes around 20-30 seconds to complete the 'netstats' poller element (due to the nasty tiny-brain device, not Observium): There is no data of value to us collected from this, so I'd like to just disable netstat collection for all current and future Geist devices. Is there a way to do this which doesn't involve clicking on each one and disabling that module manually? [cid:image001.png@01D70F52.9DBE2C60] I've trawled the DB as best I can to try to see where I can do this, but unable to identify where module enable/disablement is done. Closest I found is within the devices table, there is device_state and the netstats element is encoded in there in a way I cannot grasp unfortunately. Devices can be easily matched with: select * from devices where vendor like "geist" - so I'm hoping I can make a change globally somehow? Cheers! Backup options for the MySQL database

Hi Everybody, I recently started a new role at a company that uses Observium to monitor a fairly large estate. Observium (Professional edition) was originally installed on an EC2 instance running Debian 8 and MySQL 5.5 by someone who has long since departed the company. My task is to bring it all up to date and document it. I've created a new instance running Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and MySQL 8.0.23 and testing the migration process hasn't thrown up any problems. One of the things my predecessor didn't do was to set up any backup regime for the database. As it happens, /var/lib/mysql is a logical volume and I've been looking at using lvm snapshots as part of a backup process. The basic idea would be to: Connect to the mysql daemon and issue a 'FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK' command. Create the LVM snapshot. Connect to the daemon and issue a 'UNLOCK TABLES' command. Do something with the snapshot. My questions are: Is this a good idea? Will it give me a consistent backup? Is there a better way? Thanks in advance, Michael.

Hello Everyone, I want to pull interface utilization metrics from mysql DB and make it a daily report. Got bunch devices I am interested in, each of them has got few interfaces I would like to get metrics for. Graphs are showing all the info I would like to get from DB like max, min and avg values for In and Out octets. Where in DB I can find historical data for device XXX, interface YYY, date ZZZ. So far I was able to run something like below, but that doesn't give me any option to select historical data. I must say that I was browsing through whole DB table by table and I couldn't find anything related to previous dates. I have the global setting enabled, and the OSPF module is enabled too, but only 1 router is being discovered as OSPF enabled. Am I missing something? Hi, I was wondering how you guys tackle the problem of changing the port of (e.g. your transit uplink) to another physical port & historical data. Since rrd's are stored under "port-<snmpid>" format, this event causes you by default to loose your historical data. Or even worse, you have to change your routing engine with a more recent version, and after replacing it seems all your snmp id's are changed. this is certainly of importance for our interfaces which have a label that automatically creates aggregates graphs. How I do this until now is copying the rrd file to the new location, but this seems so... dirty kind regards Arene

wrong values in billing module

Hi, we are using the Pro/Subscription and use the billing module. A customer of us notices us, that the billing information is wrong. I checked information from billing module for december for the customer (95/5 374Mbit). Also i check 95/5 of the port directly i get a value of 204Mbit, 95/5 How is this difference possible? Arista switches per-VLAN traffic stats?

I observe (pun not intended) that on our Arista switches, unlike the Cisco NX9ks we run, Observium isn’t able to collect per-VLAN traffic stats. This is kind of a problem for us… Arista’s willing to help diagnose, but wants to know what MIB trees are being polled to gather this info. For example, I have a number of BGP sessions on hot-standby devices which are 'normally down' until the primary device dies. I do not need/want to see the down state of these BGP sessions. Hello, it's been a while I was upgrading the Observium dependencies. Currently we're suing OLD Centos version: CentOS Linux release 7.3.1611 (Core) [image: image.png] What do you think, is it safe to update system via yum update? It would upgrade Centos 7.3 to 7.x and should upgrade Python, Maria DB (from 5.5.56 to 5.5.68) ant other Observium dependencies. After this base update, i would try to manually update MariaDB to 10.x and Python, if yum update will be insufficient. My concern is to not corrupt the system. Could you give some recommendations or i'm too careful and everything should be fine with yum update. ? Thank you:)

Smokeping graphs post migration

Howdy, I need some help pointing me in the right direction for troubleshooting. I migrated Observium from Ubuntu to Debian and life is good except for smokeping. I have no graphs but… * smokeping is installed * smokeping and observium’s config.php are using the same configuration as the old server * going to [host]cgi-bin/smokeping.cgi shows me all the graphs and they are up to date * going to the tech support page shows me that observium finds the graphs e.g. - Found file ending in ".rrd": router_thorodin_rmham.rrd - Determined to be a local file, for target router_thorodin_rmham - After replacing configured split_char _ by . target is router.thorodin.rmham so at this point I know smokeping is working, the graphs have the right perms to displayed (currently smokeping:observium), and observium can see the rrd file. Unfortunately going to the page I get the dreaded “Error drawing graph”. At the bottom of the smokeping section in tech support I see two items. One is an error for no outgoing latency graph. Any ideas on what else I could look at? RRD for incoming latency found. RRD for outgoing latency not found.

Juniper polling performance tip

Hey guys! Just wanted to share a little tip on how to increase Observium polling performance on juniper boxes. This might be old news for some but I just found it. You can create a filter on junos-device that filters out certain interfaces from SNMP view. https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/task/configuration… I can recommend using: set snmp filter-interfaces all-internal-interfaces set snmp filter-interfaces interfaces "^sxe-.*" This will filter out all useless internal interfaces from polling and discovery by Observium. Especially when you have large juniper switch stacks the total number of internal interfaces are a lot which slows down polling. Filtering them out actually makes a big difference. If you got a lot of juniper gear, try it out and please share the speedup in pollingtime! /Markus

Random few questions

Hi All, I've got a few random questions that probably have simply answers too Ive checked our poller performance logs and its showing ’total time for all devices as 463.46s’ Is this a worry? Should it be under the 300s as the poller is set to run every 5 min? The highest device we have according to the poller performance is a mikrotik hex s router and that takes 30 seconds to poll, again is this normal? Also the poller performance for that device is showing its taking about 15seconds just to poll the ports module but again it only has 5 ports? Kindest Regards Simon - Hestor Ltd

Hello, I know that if i want to have a fully backup i need 3 things. 1) Mysql dump 2) copy of config.php 3)and copy of .rrd folder. My question is: Do it's enough to have first two things: MYSQL dump and copy of config.php ? Because old traffic data (.rrd) is not so critical as loosing all the rules/alerts of Observium (and weathermap which is on other directory)

Beyond leveraging the Observium API for Twilio integration, would you be willing to natively extend Observium to include Twilio so that we can extend our use of that tool within the native toolset? Hello, I want to create an alert that informs me, when the network traffic on a mysql-database ("Application_mysql_network_traffic") on below a certain treshold. What I really want to see is if the mysqld process is running or not and I try to achieve this by looking at this stat which will be zero when mysqld has been terminated. Hi Guys, A number of services are moving their APIs to require TLS 1.3 because of a vulnerability in TLS 1.2, which means you need to be running pretty recent versions of PHP and OpenSSL to access them. PHP needs to be 7.4. Opsgenie is already requiring TLS 1.3, so if you're using them for your alerting, please make sure you're running a recent enough version of PHP for the API calls to function. You can test this on your system with the test_alert.php CLI script in the Observium root directory. In general, Observium is a fairly demanding PHP application so it's good practice to try to keep PHP as up to date as possible. We've seen some very nice performance improvements over the past few years, and 8.0 is going to bring even more. For this reason we don't recommend running Observium on distributions like RHEL/CentOS which hold old versions for as long as possible. Thanks, Adam.

CE No RRD Updates Since Upgrade to 20.9

I run two instances of Observium. Professional is installed at the office and CE is installed in my home lab. I followed the steps to upgrade CE (I know, everyone says that) in my lab from 19.8 to 20.9 on November 8 and none of the graphs have updated since. I have rebooted, checked permissions, verified all expected services are running, etc. Reviewing the event log in the Web UI and the logs on the server all show activity. The timestamps of the individual RRD files are updating every time poller runs - just nothing happening in the UI. Can someone help me think of anything else to check? CentOS 7.9 MariaDB 10.3.27-1 PHP 7.2.34 (OPcache Enabled) Thanks, Scott

Hey Guys, I noted this morning when I added a device that Observium tries to auto discover the OSPF Neighbours - this is awesome, but won’t work in our env. (Firewalls and IDs) ##### Module Start: neighbours ##### o LLDP-MIB o CISCO-CDP-MIB o OSPF-MIB o Trying to discover host 10.x.x.255 (10.x.x.255) through OSPF (ospf) o Trying to discover host 10.y.y.255 (10.y.y.255) through OSPF (ospf) o Trying to discover host 10.y.y.0 (10.y.y.0) through OSPF (ospf) We force our ID’s to be higher or lower depending on what we need. I’m authenticating against RSA , set the groupmemberattr Filter-ID and some auth_radius_groups with different privilege levels. What i could not figure out is how i can limit one Filter-ID to just a specific device or port. In the GUI it’s possible to configure some Roles, once added they cannot be removed anymore via the GUI? Thanks, Alex

When startup process it succesfull load the data from ramdsk via rc.local script but the data loaded is corrupt, I can confrm this because when I try to manual extract from LZOP compression end with error, only some graph can be restored. The event log shows newest entries on top but syslog shows oldest (which is 30 days – the number of days in our case that we retain syslog data). Polling partitioning / distributed polling

Hi, I've set this up per what I can find in the docs. Master server has RRDcached running, MySQL and web server. I have another server acting as poller server. I go to that server and add hosts, the host add find. All the graphs are failing and on the local server i t shows nothing in the RRD dir (which is right I would think), on the remote hosts it shows RRD files but when I do a debug I see "file already exists" and it does on the remote server. Looking at the rrd.journal file I see updates being issued and see no errors. On the polling server I have added: $config['rrdcached'] = "x.x.x.x:42217"; $config['rrd']['no_local'] = TRUE; And updated cron to: */5 * * * * observium /opt/observium/observium-wrapper -i 1 -n 0 discovery --host new >> /dev/null 2>&1 # Run multithreaded poller wrapper every 5 minutes */5 * * * * observium /opt/observium/observium-wrapper -i 1 -n 0 poller >> /dev/null 2>&1 As I have one poller server and this is the first one. I see no other errors in other logs but all graphs show "error drawing graph". Is there something else in my config I am missing to make this work? Thanks

Graph Data Missing after Upgrade RAM

Dear All, I'm using Observium 20.1.10233 (stable) Enterprise version. Observium sometime error on database when access from web Image1.jpeg At that time the graph stop add new data. there's a notification in console like picture below, so I need to restart the database service. image2.png Access server and try to see HTOP image3.png Then check the log image4.png After restart database service, the graph starts to add new data again. Then, I upgraded the server RAM from 12 GB to 24 GB on 9 November 2020 at night. This server uses ramdisk configuration on SSD. After the server booted up the graph didn't add new data until today 11 November 2020 at 00:00 the graph started to add new data again. But, all previous data graphs on all devices before 11 November 2020 are missing. Here's the screenshot for the missing data for example on one device after upgrade. image5.png Here's the HTOP from the observium server after upgrade image6.png I've restore to date 8 and 7 November but the all graph show "Draw Graph Error" image7.jpeg & image8.jpeg When check the rrd folder from the server restore, It just only show a few device folder. I assume that folder still hold on ramdisk, but if I see log for ramdisk it sync every 2-5 minutes to hardisk. Please tell me step-by-step how to troubleshoot & recover it. Rancid git with remote pollers

Hi, I know this is slightly off topic but was wondering if anyone has ran into this. We have rancid on our remote pollers working and grabbing configs. Now on a single Observium instance you just enable it in the config and the integration works spot on as the SVN/GIT is local. Has anyone got this to work where they store the configs locally on the remote poller and then push a copy to the master observium box so they show up in the GUI? Or are you using a central GIT server on the master and just the proper settings in the rancid.conf file? Thanks

Hey guys, i am trying to set a group alarm where all my routers are on it. But I am not able to have it set correctly, and in the alerts configurations webpage is not clear enough. Can you please help me on how to set an alarm for any item on a group when a router is down? Also, is there some other page to learn about alarm creations? Also, now that I am sending this email, I need to check services (apache / sql / etc) I saw there was a couple of scripts to be set into the snmp.conf file, how can I create other to monitor different services? Event log noise

Hi all, Our event log is clogging up with multiple current and voltage threshold entries, for example see below; Current gi24 PoE Current above threshold: 0.158 A (> 0.1155 A) Current gi3 PoE Current above threshold: 0.115 A (> 0.102 A) Voltage gi24 PoE Voltage above threshold: 119 V (> 63.25 V) Voltage gi9 PoE Voltage above threshold: 113 V (> 60.95 V) Apologies if this is a dumb question, as I'm knew to the software, but does anyone know a good way of removing these entries besides adjusting the threshold of every network device. Monitoring voltages and currents isn't a high priority for us, so happy to turn these off globally. Many thanks for your help. Additional portpercent element/widget on frontpage?

Hello! I would love to be able to add a second Traffic Comparison (portpercent) with different port groups to our dashboard. Is that somehow possible? Right now I can add a second "Traffic Composition" Widget in the dashboard edit mode, but it still uses the same port groups as the other one. Currently Observium gives us a separate "PoE Group n" for each switch in the stack so those are handy subtotals. Device Graphs are not drawing

Hello I am an absolute beginner to Observium and Linux. I installed Observium in my environment as Syslog and SNMP server. I added some Cisco Catalyst 9500 series, 9200 and Nexus N3k Series switches. After I added those devices, In some devices are not drawing Graphs (like System, Traffic statistics etc). What is the issue for this and How I fix this? I have another question. I need to add more Hard disk space to my ubuntu VM that I installed in Observium. But there is some issue to expand my root disk. I installed Observium also in my Root partition. Because of this I have planned to create an another partition using LVM and move Observium to that partition. Is this possible? If so, How I do that and How can I see the mount point in Observium? Cisco Wifi APs registered twice

Hi We had a power mishap which resulted in the Cisco wifi controller rebooting. After that all the AP's got registered twice in observium. Deleting the controller and re-adding it didn't clear up the issue. I manually deleted all entries from the wifi_aps table and got the thing working correct. It's not a big issue, but it should be an easy change to only add unique APs, based on name or MAC, to the database. Graphs keep reset randomly and losing previous history

I just upgraded from 19.8 to 20.9 CE. In both I've been having the same problem: Everything works as expected, except two devices (of 19) produce a big pink box instead of a chart for the "Ports" widget on the Overview page for the devices. The chart is titled "Error Drawing Graph". Other similar devices (same OS version, etc.) all show a normal-looking chart in the same place. The devices are "SunOS <hostname> 5.11 11.4.25.75.3 sun4v". Most other devices of the same version work, just not two of them. When I click on the chart, I get the Ports page and a bigger version of the same chart. Hi, You cant just add extra data to an RRD, they have a fixed format. Youd also need to add code to graph and display the data. Its a fair bit more complicated than this, especially for WMI. Adam. Greetings, I am new to this and Observium. We have a paid version and I have some questions about support and upgrading. Question 1, how do I get support? Support question, when I try to add a device, I get an error saying it can't ping the device. I have logged into the terminal of observium and can ping the device Support question, I recently received an email about a new version, I tried to run the update, but it fails saying it can't find the root folder or something like that. I can provide more details, but this is the basic questions I have and if you can point me in the proper direction how to get these answered I would appreciate that. Syslog rule: No logging alert entries found

Hi We would like to generate an alert on an Aruba switch logging stuff like "ST1-CMDR: port 1/20-Excessive CRC/alignment errors. See help." So I created a syslog rule that triggered on that expression, but I get "No logging alert entries found!". Then I changed the pattern to just /CRC/ and it still doesn't find anything. Syslog problem with Arista and Nexus device

Hello Team, I am running latest Observium version, Syslog is configured on switch to send logs to observium server. They send logs to observium (verified with capture on server interface) but observium doesn’t show it in syslog tab it says- No syslog entries found! This device does not have any syslog entries. Check that the syslog daemon and Observium configuration options are set correctly, that this device is configured to send syslog to Observium and that there are no firewalls blocking the messages. Hello, I am trying to configure Active Directory authentication on my Observium CE v20.9.10731 server using this page as a guide -> https://docs.observium.org/authentication/#active-directory I am passed the point where my username and password are authenticated. It is the group config I am confused about. I have an Active Directory group "eng-admins" that I want to give administrative privileges to, of which my login (bbianchi) is a member. And I have an Active Directory group "eng-team" that I want to give generic non-admin privileges. My domain is hq.viviport.com. Debug Logging
