Custom OID Metric Conditions

Hi, The attached image shows some custom OIDs I have set up to monitor Juniper QFX VCP link status. These work fine and I see the custom graphs (gauges where state 1 = link up, state 0 = link down). The last bit I need to figure out is how to alert on them. I think I'm 90% of the way there. You can see the custom OIDs in the top browser window. In the bottom browser window, I'm unsure how to refer to the custom OIDs in the "conditions" bit. Any help gratefully accepted - I've got this far without bothering anyone but I've fallen at the last hurdle. Thanks! Hi, do not post here links to an *nms urls/issues ;) Ricoh is very hidden vendor.. No ways for fetch latest private MIB. Hi All This is a message to ask people can they try these SNMP OIDs in the link below on there Ricoh printers? We have a few Ricoh printers that just show SOME SPACE in observium and would love to see values! I discovered this link by accident and they appear to be working on our few printers! Currently using the printer-mib only reveilles -3, -2, -1 which isnt helpful... I recently noticed my db.log file had grown to 18GB in size (I noticed because it filled my drive). Then you can upgrade it and in case of troubles you can simple restore the data from backup (directory or full backup of the system). Hey, I have a memory alert configured in observium, *mempool_perc greater 90* with * as an entity filter [image: image.png] I get the same threshold memory monitor for all memory entities I'd like to filter memory alerts by entities [image: image.png] Can you please provide a syntax example on how to create a filter for "Virtual memory" so i can set a different threshold for it How can I find these myself next time? I am not able to login in web interface after new install observium CE 17.9.0

Hello, After install observium Community Edition 17.9.0 in Centos 7 and Nginx, I am not able to login for first time using web interface. The adduser script added correctly the admin user (also I created 3 more users) with level 10. The weird is there is not record of the action in any log. I did research and found similar issue about 5 years ago where the problem was the disk or partition was full, this is not my case, my / filesystem is 47% and /temp filesystem is 2%. other possibility is the session_start() can have troubles to write, but without log it's only a guess. I want to try set session_save_path() just before session_start() to see if this solve the issue. if you think my idea can work, in what file where should I put the variable? Slow page generation when using group permissions

Hi, When using user level 1 permission with group permission, page generation is very slow. I have a total of 447 devices, where group X has 225 members When a user with permission to group X logs in, the frontpage takes 24s to load(using status_summary/map/syslog/eventlog/). Clicking on a device takes 22s. When an admin logs in, the "same" frontpage takes 0.6s to load Anyone got any tips? For example, we have our entire county now displaying on the homepage on the map but we would like to see a city only so that we can display this city onto a separate monitor of us. Hi, I recently upgraded from one of the turnkey appliances to Observium running in a VM on its own running Observium CE 17.9.0. Since that upgrade my queries for ports haven't been completed against my main FortiSwitch. Looking at the poller times the ports module seems to be taking the longest (ports/1,562.4587s/156.25%). Debugging that on the fortiswitch I am seeing the following queries and very high CPU usage on the FortiSwitch (124D running 3.6.6). Hi, In general when using RHEL you have to become proficient at finding lots of non-ancient packages. Hi guys, I'm getting alerts for high disk usage for some of my servers. The alerts are false as my actual partition disk size is 9.6T and total disk size is 9.9T. Is building groups broken? Can't get it to work.

Hello Running 18.8.9360 (3rd August 2018). Noticed that “groups” have gotten a sweet ass looking upgrade! =))) Nice one! But I have issues when building the groups. Thought it had to do with the “,” and “|” as separator, since that seems to have changed under the hood. So I tried to recreate an old rule and make the new one just like the old one. But when building it i end up at a blank page with the "Building groups memberships” heading. Nothing happens and when I refresh the page no sensors are in the group. Am I missing something? Picture of the old working group and the new one I made. What did I do wrong? multiple pollers and poller-wrapper history

Hi, Is it possible to see graphs under /pollerlog/view=wrapper/ for each poller when using poller-wrapper with -g option? All pollers are polling their indivudal host group and putting the rrd's over rrdcached, but as of now the filename is the same, so either they will overwrite the files depending of the rrdcached settings, or nothing will happen if file exists ERROR: rrdcached: RRD Error: creating '/opt/observium/rrd/poller-wrapper.rrd': File exists ERROR: rrdcached: RRD Error: creating '/opt/observium/rrd/poller-wrapper_count.rrd': File exists Regards Christian

Use attributes as attributes. You probably don't want to create permanent alert table entries just for this, and it's not time critical. Am I missing something ? 2° Second question I would like to use this group in an Alert Checks but in the entity association ruleset, I can use a Device Group but not a Port Group No « Port Group » and if I try to use Device Group I see only groups related to devices Bug of misunderstanding from me ? QNAP up / down every second poll

Hi All after upgrading a QNAP Device from 4.3.3 to 4.3.4 SNMP works every second poll. Event Log is full with things like: 2018-07-25 12:40:02 nas01 Device status changed to Up 2018-07-25 12:35:08 nas01 Device status changed to Down (snmp) How can I further troubleshoot this? clearing a "Status Warning and Notification" status on unmonitored object?

Is there a way to clear the status or data from something I don’t want to monitor anymore? I have a server that I installed bird & bird-snmp on, so observium properly discovered the BGP peers, including a couple of down sessions. Because I don’t want to monitor that on this instance, I went into the hosts settings and disabled the bgp poller and bgp discovery. It no longer updates those statuses, but the down peers are still showing up in the Status Warnings and Notification section on my home page, and the peers are still listed as routing info on the host (out of date now). Hopefully there’s something that can be done besides deleting and re-adding the host to clear those out? Thanks, -Darrell

additional file systems not shown in Observium

Hi I am using Observium (subscribtion edition 18.1.9011) and want to monitor the file-systems of my servers. This works fine, but i have a VM which has additional filesystems (one local and some via NFS), and they don't show up what shows up is: / /boot /var/lib/docker/overlay what doesn't show up (but exists) is: /var/lib/samba/profiles /mnt/nfs/dept1 /mnt/nfs/dept2 VM OS: Debian 8 Version of net-snmp: 5.7.2.1+dfsg-1+deb8u1+b1 I didn't do any changes to the snmpd.conf on the VM rather than SNMPv3 authentication settings. Does somebody have any hint for me how to fix this? Hi Brian, you configured syslog daemon complete at same way in Pro as in CE? You use rsyslog daemon? How to debug syslog receiver (for rsyslog): 1. In Global Setting Edit -> Syslog -> Enable Syslog DEBUG 2. Validate that rsyslog daemon have permissions to write into logs dir: $ ls -l /opt/observium | grep logs 2.a Simple is add write permissions for all: $ sudo chmod 777 /opt/observium/logs 3. restart rsyslog: $ sudo service rsyslog restart 4. Now see debug.*.syslog files in logs dir: $ ls /opt/observium/logs/*.syslog When syslog msg from host received, here will added file: debug.<host>.syslog Where <host> is received hostname by rsyslog daemon, in your case this <host> must be complete same as device hostname in observium server. Syslog Integration

Hello, Our organization recently upgraded from the Community version to Professional. While using the Community version on Ubuntu 16.04 we found syslog integration worked well and setup was easy following the documentation. After purchasing a subscription, we installed Observium on a new Ubuntu 16.04 machine, but cannot get syslog integration to work. I have configured the target machine to send syslog messages to Observium and, using tcpdump, can confirm the Observium server is receiving messages on the correct port from the target with FQDN. However, the Observium web interface show "no syslog entries." What is the best way to diagnose and fix this problem? Brian Hilmers

Alert checker for high memory usage on Linux

I'm trying to setup a high memory usage alert on Ubuntu Linux hosts. I'm using type entity mempool_perc in alert test 'mempool_perc greater 90'. However mempool_perc reports all memory used, including cache/buffer memory used by Linux, but still available to be released for applications as necessary. So my alert checker generates false alerts as soon as memory usage including cache/buffer exceeds 90%, which it does quit often on most of my servers. How can I setup a memory alert checker for available physical memory below a certain threshold? Observium online guide states: 'On Unix/Linux systems we generate a special "Physical Memory" memory pool entity by calculating memory usage minus buffer and cache. Use this for alerting on Unix/Linux' But not really sure how to use that entity? Is the entity name 'Physical_Memory', does it return result in bytes, percentage ? Windows 10 Auto Discovery

Good day: I am working on getting our windows environment set for auto discovery. It is working for our switches once we enable LLDP and have the correct SNMP setting in place. With Windows 10 I am having no luck in having them auto discovered. I can manually add a windows workstation to Observium via the add feature. When looking at devices in Observium I can see that a switch sees the workstation NIC via LLDP. However it only sees it as a MAC and provides no further information on the system itself. Windows 10: 64Bit Symantec Endpoint Protection AV SNMP Enabled and properly configured. LLDP looks to be on in NIC features. LLTD does not stay on under Windows Services. Thank you, Scott

Alert association including all devices with recent version

Hello The "Entity Association Ruleset" has been recently modified On this screenshot you can see both type ("Memory usage" use the old syntax with "Device & Entity" . while "Device down" use the new syntax) My question is simple . as we are obliged to associate an "Alert check" to devices, how are we supposed to specify "All devices" ? It's indeed no longer possible to specify * I've achieved my goal by specifying "device.ignore notequals 1" but this is not intuitive at all. Is there an easier way to do it ? Best Regards Thibault

Alerts table not refreshed after discovery

Hi, We observed the following behavior with Observium Subscription Edition 18.7.8339. We have a alert checker define on used pourcentage on file systems. Previously, if we add a filesystem to a server, a new entry entry in the alert table associated with this alert checker was created. It seems to be not the case anymore. Note that the new filesystem is reported as found in the event log and that the monitoring part is working perfectly. Regards, Fabrice

Graphs are showing 13MB throughput on a 6MB link

Just noticed that the bandwidth graphs are not reporting the correct throughput. I.e. a 6MB T-1 link is showing 13MB on the Out. This router is a Cisco 7204VXR. I just tried updating to the current version of Observium, patched the OS, and rebooted but no change. Thoughts? Best practice for "Port Down"?

I quite like the idea that Observium notes "down" ports; however, in my case, most are false-positive in that they belong to users who power down after hours. Our normal port description for an unallocated port is "NXC" (No Xross Connect) to the "Ignore Ports by ifName/ifDescr" and that has helped. In a perfect world, I want to monitor all ports which interconnect between our switches, and all ports in the Data Center; but ignore everything else. Problem with time range showing graph

Hi all, i'm using Observium in our company, we start suffering a problem when we try to show a graph in a defined time frame, the result is like that the time frame selected and the graph are different time frame, for example I select From: 2018-07-10 09:03:5 To: 2018-07-10 10:11:56 but the graph show starting 11:00 ending 12:10 like the attached image, and if I try to select a time-frame ending in this moment, the graph is empty, i suppose because the real time-frame used will end in the future. No Alert Notification

I'm attempting to setup an alert notification that would get engaged only if SNMP and ICMP were down, so I've setup a device-down alert that is based upon the below two conditions. device_status_type snmp 0 device_status_type ping 0 I also have "Require all conditions" selected within the Alert Checker Conditions. When SNMP condition is met, Observium does mark the device as down and does not send a notification, as desired. However, when both conditions are met, Observium marks the device as down but does not send a notification. What am I missing? Regards, *David W. how to exclude the CPU temperature readings when monitoring virtual machines?

I am monitoring one virtual machine (Ubuntu, VMWare ESXi hosted) and noticed that the CPU temperatur is quite high with 100 degrees :) The question is now how to exclude this output for all virtual machines if possible? Observium 8.6.9263 (10th June 2018) OS Linux 4.4.0-116-generic [amd64] (Ubuntu 16.04) Apache 2.4.18 (Ubuntu) PHP 7.0.30-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 (OPcache: ENABLED) Python 2.7.12 MySQL 10.1.25-MariaDB-1~xenial (extension: mysqli 5.0.12-dev) SNMP NET-SNMP 5.7.3 RRDtool 1.5.5 (rrdcached 1.5.5: unix:/var/run/rrdcached.sock) Fping 3.13 (IPv4 and IPv6) I have a bunch of Aruba devices, WAP205H, IAP155, 303H and a single 7005. OS little varied but usually 6.4x or 6.5x. I am aware that the Aruba is not specifically supported but would expect basic snmp bandwidth info to be correct ( ish ) IAP155 and 7005 seem to report bandwidth traffic ok but the 205and 303 report nonsense. ( see the attached graph ) . Are there other Aruba users out there with similar issues or is it just me?

Ive tried by proceeding like this : 1° Ive defined a global alarm for all my devices having disk over 90% Im associating this alert checks to every devices except those in a specific group 2° The group with id 17, correspond to devices for which I accept a disk filled under 95% 3° Ive defined a second alert check specifically for this Is it the good way to achieve my goal ? how to avoid false-positives (device down/up), on HPE switches and Aruba APs

Hi Observium: 18.1.9011 (stable, subscribtion) We are monitoring our networking infrastructure with Observium and for a long time, i am seeing some false-positives. The poller period is 5 minutes and i.e. on 10:00am Observium reports a switch beeing down, where at 10:05am it reports it as beeing up again. This happens to HPE network gear (switches) as well as to wireless APs (Aruba). I set |$config['ping']['debug'] = TRUE; ||$config['ping']['timeout'] = 500; ||| |in config.php and will now monitor if that helps. SQL Query

Hi Adam, Hope you are well. Just a quick question about the Observium database schema. I need to write a simple query that will return a list of device names and the IP addresses which Observium uses for its polling (we don’t need or want any other addresses). I had a look and found tables ‘devices’ and ‘ipv4_addresses’. And I can see the device_id foreign key etc, so obtaining all the IPs for a device is trivial enough. But I am not sure how to best filter for just the IP which Observium uses for polling. I recently built a DNS zone for our network team using PowerDNS, and I just need to export all the devices and their management IPs from Observium, so I can inject the records into PowerDNS. So nothing fancy, but we have a couple hundred records.. Kind regards, Andy Lemin

Using professional edition license for testing

Hello, I want to migrate Observium professional edition to a new server, my plan is to install everything and testing them on the new box before moving data(rrd, database etc.). I saw "The subscription license is valid for a single production installation and two testing or development installations." on the page so I want to make sure that how should I handle license operation. I only can see one user/pass for my subscription when I logged in. Can I use it on the new box to download another Observium professional edition and test my build before moving data while my production Observium is still operational? Best

We are looking for a way to do some simple and rough storage growth prediction for an number of volumes as an aggregate. Cisco ADSL port only shows one speed

Hello experts.... I have 2 Cisco routers with ADSL ports. Observium is showing the low (outbound) speed on these ports, however I am more interested in the higher (inbound) speed. When we have line problems, the outbound speed generally doesn't change much (maybe by a few kbps), but the inbound can drop from ~7mbps to under 1mbps. This drastic inbound speed change is what I'd like to monitor, graph and get alerts on... Is there a way to get the other speed to show instead (or in addition)? I can see the Cisco ADSL MIB listed, and enabled, but this is obviously not enough. I can't see any other obvious settings, and Google was not my friend on this one. TB

Hey All, I have a weird issue with some interface graphs for a SRX240H where it will show the speed spiking to 10+GB/s on a 1GB/s port and for the life of me, I can't figure out why. https://pasteboard.co/Hss2xMm.png Observium I think is polling the 32 bit OIDs, but the webUI says it is 64bit Polling with Cacti shows correct traffic on both 32 and 64 bit OIDs - https://pasteboard.co/Hss2agw.png I also see a similar issue with a SRX110H where the VDSL interface (which is hard capped to 12MB/s) is showing 50+MB/s which is not possible. https://pasteboard.co/Hss2kcf.png Not sure how else to debug this, I have a feeling that this might be an issue within Observium, but advice appreciated. 9304 issues

Hi, Overnight the update script brought us to 9304 and the schema up to 378. Immediately after, all of our devices when down and alerts went out. The problem was that the poller script SQL call was failing because it was looking for status = 1 and all of our boxes were in status = 0. poller couldn’t find the host even though the hostname matched hostname in devices. Alert-check "down device" doesn't report devices down

Hello I've something strange with a basic alert checker I've defined a basic alert-checker to check if my devices are down The test condition is device_status equals 0 I know it works because I already had some working case. I'm astonished because I have a case with devices shown as down : . but not reported by the alarm-checks The device is a Dell EqualLogic PS4210 Do you know what my mistake could be ? Moving Data to new build

How/Can you move data (graphs, device information etc) from one Observium build to another new build? I have been evaluating a Turnkey Linux CE build of Observium adding some devices etc. We like it and have purchased a license for the PE edition. I've been having little success moving the Virtualbox hosted version to ESXi 6.x for production. So I was thinking of installing a new build ontop of Debian 9. Can I move our Vbox hosted data over or do I just suck it up and start again? Thanks, Barry

Minor issue with data obtained vs displayed.

Howdy Adam et al., Just a minor issue that I've noticed. I'm doing WMI polling of my Windoze boxen, and it's generally working well. The information is getting fetched properly, and being displayed properly. However, I've got a few instances where I see the wmi component of the poller is fetching information properly (case in point my personal workstation): ##### Module Start: wmi ##### WMI Poller: Windows version updated: 10 Pro Insider Preview (10.0.17692) Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5680 @ 3.33GHz o Module time 5.3163s But when I view the device overview page, I get the normal non-WMI indication of "Unknown Processor Type". Alerting on Bandwidth

Hi Gang, I’m hoping someone can point me to the best answer for this… I can’t use network weathermap on my Observium server. I do need to monitoring available bandwidth on ports. Many ports on many of the 100 routers have different available bandwidths (e.g. our shot from one mountain to another might have a 100M ifspeed but due to the 30 mile link the actual throughput is 15M). I have some ideas: 1) use alerts to specify the router and port which is cumbersome (using ifInOctets_rate and ifOutOctets_rate) 2) query SQL directly and write a program to parse and display 3) Something I haven’t tested, just use the generic rule I have written and modify the ifspeed on the appropriate ports to what the actual bandwidth is. APC PDU values

Not sure when this started (2 weeks ago?), but my APC PDUs (model AP8641) are alerting sensors on several banks. I checked the output values on the PDU and they are correctly reported BOTH on the PDU and in Observium. The issue lies at what Observium thinks the thresholds should be set to. On the PDU the thresholds are correct (16 warn and 20 max). But Observium is reporting the thresholds as 1.6 and 2 [cid:image001.png@01D40879.39B4EB10] Doing a discovery debug on the device I see this... Unable to create Device type alert checkers

Hello, We are suddenly unable to create new alert checkers for the device type in our observium instance. When the checker is created and we rebuild no machines are associated to the alert checker. We have a previous device up/down alert checker in place that still works but we are unable to add new devices to it. Other checkers such as storage can be created and seem to work fine. Any chance we could get this changed to "DO_NOT_MODIFY_THE_CONTENTS_OF_THIS_DIRECTORY" instead? It breaks our Ubuntu AIDE config and I haven't found a workaround for it not being an AIDE expert. Troubleshoot/Debug Geolocation?

Hi Guys, Is there a way to troubleshoot/debug the geolocation system? I thought we were using Google, and it reports that's what is configured, but it seems like in reality the lookups are using Yahoo? Perhaps the Google query is failing due to an issue with the API key, but how could I check this? I couldn't see anything obvious in the normal poller or discovery debugs for geolocation? Group Editor Interface

Hi all, It may have been there for some time (as this is not frequently modified) but I've found that the group membership editor (Devices->Groups) doesn't seem to recognise historic rulesets which we have for some of our groups. Image below: In this example, the group matches servers with specific combinations of Distro and Version. Interestingly, the group actually continues to work just fine! The only issue is that I cannot make any changes to it with the graphical editor. I've had to update it in the DB (specifically changing one of the version numbers) for Debian, and it continues to show the desired results once the group is rebuilt. >From what I can see, the 'device.distro' and 'device.distro_ver' which we are using, are no longer valid items under 'device' in the GUI. Also, I don't "think" that any of the options there are an appropriate equivalent for this (Operating System is different I believe; and there is no numeric 'version' at all). This I presume is why the editor doesn't know how to handle these existing rules. Is this a quick fix, or the entrance to a rabbit hole? Cheers! Hi all, i would like ask all of you if someone knows a good solution how to trigger a speed mismatch against the configured link speed. I give you an example: Bundle-Ether1 has a port description of "Core: device [40Gbit] {abc} (notes)". So the bundle should have 40Gbit and I want now to create an alert to trigger a speed mismatch if a member goes down, then Bundle-Ether1 will report its updated speed i.e. 30Gbit and this should be compared and trigger somehow. Hi list, Simple problem statement, as per the subject, I get no pages once I log into Observium. More Background. I'm running CE 17.9 edition and have done sucessfully since it's release. I have however update my OS to Ubuntu 18.04 and PHP-7.2. In searching I saw http://jira.observium.org/browse/OBS-2537 and assume my CE issue is a PHP7.2 related one. Is there anyway I can confirm this is a PHP7.2 issue? Cisco ASR9k Optical Levels

Hi Its seems as though Cisco in their wisdom have changed how the power levels are reported for optical SFP’s and they now by default report in mW and not dBm on the ASR9k platform. When observium SNMP’s them its pulling the mW values now and thus its throwing the sensor values off and creating alerts. Can observium be made to change these back to dBm readings using a simple calculation and pull the thresholds as well as before? Alerting association changes

Hi Guys, I've just committed some changes to extend the new rule parsing to alerting. At the moment we're just testing it, so it doesn't do an automatic migration (and there's no editing interface yet!) If you're using alerting (and are running the current version, not stable or CE), you can go to /migrate_alerts/ on your Observium installation to see if the rules will work properly when we make the change for real. Nothing will be changed at this point, we just generate the new rules and make sure their outcome matches what's in the database. If you get any errors, send me a screenshot of the page with the queries visible so we can fix it! Oh, and make sure you do an alerting rebuild first! Thanks, adam.

Our mailprovider is using Spam Experts and they're saying: X-SpamExperts-Evidence: Bad header count. ------------ Emails should never contain duplicate headers such as "Subject" or "To". In case such duplicate headers are found, the message will be rejected until the underlying bug is fixed in the email sending software. ----------- What is the best thing we / you can do about this? Hey guys, Does anyone here monitor an Oracle (AcmePacket) Session Border controller? I see it’s slightly supported, but does not support the ap-SIP function with SNMP. I am trying to get a custom OID to monitor a sip endpoint at least basic monitoring, but was curious if any one had any luck with anything more? I can manually add each OID for SIP Agent status, but it’s a manual process each time we add a customer/endpoint to each cluster and of course only provides a 1, 2, 3. Hello Does anybody has the issue about incorrect traffic pooling on subinterfaces over portchannel. The device is Cisco ASR1001-X. Earlier with subinterfaces on TE interface it was ok. Cisco 3750 Temperature

Here's an odd one... Temperature is reported correctly by many models of Cisco catalyst devices but on one of the Observium nodes there are two 3750 switches with different behaviour. The 3750 with IOS 15 is okay and reports temperature but an older 3750 under IOS 12 doesn't return temperature, even though I feel sure that it did a few years ago. Observium version: 18.5.9244 (24th May 2018) Has anyone else observed this behaviour? Update: Just checked an old 2960, still on IOS 12 and found that it doesn't display temperature but a 2960 with IOS 15 is okay. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks Darren

Hi guys, I`m not sure if this question was already answered or not, but I was asked to do research how Observium could monitor BGP peers inside the VRFs to alert us if any peer flaps or is down. I can set up alert notification based on the syslog, but this module is sending emails only and doesn`t show notification on the main dashboard. Do you have any idea if would be possible support snmp-context for every BGP peers in observium? Using SNMPv3 on all routers or how to display alerts on the dashboard based on syslog policy? Hello all. Just installed Observium CE on CentOS 7.4 and am tinkering with it. It graphs, it discovers devices via CDP/XDP, it's really cool. Now what do I do with it? I know, I know, I should have had a destination in mind before I took to the road. But the program looked so cool that I installed it just to see what it could do. One question I would really like to have it answer for me is this: I have some period slow-downs on my network. Can I get Observium to show me the busiest ports on a switch, so I can track down the culprit (if it's due to traffic?) I've been prowling the interwebs for my information. That was a helpful method of getting information to install it and make it work, and comb out some of the early bugs, but I'm finding it harder to locate hints on how to rally exploit this excellent resource to make my network better/faster/stronger/able to leap tall packets in a single bound. I have installed Observium CE on CentOS 7.4 and am trying to get a handle on the question of location for devices. I have 7 locations, all within the same city. I put in a default location in the configuration, by longitude and latitude. Sure enough, there's a green checkmark on the map right where my main building is. For Nagios purposes, we have location codes that consist of the company, site (may be omitted) building, and room. So you might find something like mcts-ad-sr (admin building, server room) or mcts-brg-1flidf (Bridge Street Garage, 1st floor IDF.) So far, I am using the same arbitrary codes for Observium, in the SNMP "location" on the switch. I was hoping to use these sort of codes to precisely locate a switch for the humans that use Observium, while hoping there was already a table built into the tool to translate the codes to map coordinates. I don't know enough about the SNMP "location" code to understand if I'm using it correctly. We have always just treated it as a free-text locator code, usable only by my IT department. Database service crashes after update

After updating to the latest version 18.5.9221 (stable) I ran the discovery.php -u to update it said (update syslog, may be long operation ~30-45min) after about 5 min I get an error Critical error: (2013) Lost connection to MySQL server during query. Restarting the service nor rebooting the server helps and I had to do a rollback from a checkpoint to get Observium to function again. Hey all, I did the revision update and I'm now currently at 18.5.9221. Since I did the update my workstations are all showing as down. I can ping them from my Observium server and I can run an snmpwalk on them from the Observium server. I tried running both ./discovery.php -d -h <some_host> and ./poller.php -d -h <some_host> and both of them have this warning: WARNING: 0 devices polled/discovered. Did you specify a device that does not exist? I tried to re-add a device but Observium says it has already been added. Am I missing something simple here? At the moment we are working on Alerting Rules and they are working great - but... Is there a way to schedule alerting in a way that we have e-mail alerting only turing working hours? Alert Checkers broken when caching is enabled

Hi, Not sure if this is special to our setup, but we have found that when we enable caching (with the cache driver set to Auto), the Alert Checkers page stops displaying. We have disabled caching again for now which has restored the Alert Checkers, so it's not a critical issue. But thought we'd share this finding. Thanks, Andy.

Hi, Would it be possible to expand the Eaton UPS monitoring support to include the contact sensors contained within 'xupsEnvironment' so we can alert on the open/closed state of the sensors? The device does appear to provide this information through SNMP (sensor 'type', 'status' and 'name' it's just not captured by Observium as best as I can tell. Hey all, I can't seem to figure out how to upgrade my Observium to the new revision. I tried svn update but that didn't work. Per the Upgrading the Subscription Edition web page I tried svn update -r 18.5.9221 and when that failed tried svn update -r 9221 but that failed too. I was going to download the new installer but I didn't want to overwrite my current installation. So how do I upgrade my current Observium install? Hi all, we've just updated this morning to the latest version 18.5.9221 (10th May 2018) and see that the iconset has changed. It looks very strange... ports are now using a Yellow ! Attention, Profil Menue (right top) a temperature icon, BGP Icon is now a paper clip?! Are you sure you want to keep them? They look so mismatched in Observium. Is there any way to get the old iconset back? LDP Neighbors, Syslog rules severity and program matching

Hi, We've been running r9073 (2018-03) for a month now and it has turned out to be a great addition to our environment. I was wondering if there are any plans to add support for MPLS LDP neighbor info in the routing pages? That is something we wouldn't mind paying a bit for. Also, regarding syslog rules, my rules to alert on message matches work great but I couldn't find mention in the doc examples of matching on severity or program name. Is it possible? The Community Edition ships with Senao (Engenius) MIBs dated 2013.11.25. This is fine for older devices such as the EAP9550 and we get proper data (such as number of wireless clients). However, it seems all modern dual band devices such as the (older) EAP600 and the (newer) ECB1750 always report 1 as the number of wireless clients (as well as other broken stats). Performance issue

Hello all, After a long period of test, i'm putting in production this great software in my company. The server is quite good generaly in term of performance except for the disks ... According to the fact that a polling task shouldn't exceed 5 min, i'm in some trouble ... :-/ A polling session (not the first one), needs 25min to be completed :_( Except the fact that i should optimize my rrd storage, is there is some particular settings for such installation ? Hi, We’ve recently purchased Observium to automate how we collect bandwidth usage data for billing our clients. By luck, I was able to find the /api/v0/bills endpoint which does not exist in the documentation at http://docs.observium.org/api/. After seeing that I’m wondering if there are other undocumented endpoints, or query parameters that could be useful. Problem with the new CLICKATELL API

Hello, Clickatell's SMS notification service has changed its API mode. The configuration in OBSERVIUM no longer allows to use to send SMS on the new platform. On the Clickatell site the configuration of the old API mode is no longer accessible. I'm looking for a solution so that it can work with the new API mode. Good morning/ evening! I have a complete Ovservium noob question to ask that i am a little embarrassed to ask, but i’m biting the bullet! Currently running the subscription edition on a CentOS install - everything patched and current as of yesterday. My question is about the graphs. I have attached a pic of a graph from a single port on a cisco switch - and i am interesred in the ‘In’ traffic —> there is a single, green, ‘in’ reference in the legend, but there are three distinct green indicators in the graph —> which one actually correllates to ‘In’, and why are there multiples. observium graph not showing anything

Hi, Good day. I have problem with my observium graph not showing anything. I aldi make sure the config.php does not have empty line, tried switching browser, give permission to rrd folder. but it still not showing anything. My /opt/observium/logs does not give any error. May I know how may I trobleshoot this? Attached is some information from my observium server. My setup is on centos7 and my monitoring device is a windows 10 latop. Also, in graph 2, the timing in the filter and the timing in the graph is different. (refer to graph2.jpg) I did perform time modification after setup observium and the time on the graph did changed to the correct time. But the filter is showing different time. I try remove the observium folder, and reunpack, drop database and recreate the database. Still the result is the same. I wonder if this is the reason the graph is not working. Hi, These sensors are all below the "low warning" threshold. These thresholds should be set automatically by the switch, but Cisco sometimes drop the ball on this (and then hit it with a brick just to be sure). The first sensor's low warning threshold is 31C, whereas the current value is 19C, which is below that. The actual values do not indicate a problem with the temperature. We use Observium Professional r9195. Hi, we use Observium to monitor even some firewalls from the outside, to check the connectivity status; does it exist any way to override the "Already got device" error when the SNMP is already within the database, just for some devices? Just as a hint, a way to use more IPs to gain the same device, and relative availability graph only, would be great. Best Luca

Observium frequently losts "Ignore Until" information

Hello, I've some alerts which i want to ignore till some time. So im pressing "Ignore until". But sometimes this information gets lost and alert appears again. In these situation "Ignore until" button in clean. I think it's have something to do with NX-OS software. Is there any workaround ? The only workaround at this time is to exclude that devices in alert rules. What is very uncomfortable.. Thank you

General Questions for a New User

Dear Sirs: I’m a new user and I currently have a suscription license. I have some questions and I need your support to resolve them! 1- How many devices can manage the platform using a production license (Supcription Edition)? and How many the Community Edition? Is it limited by the amount of equipment or by the parameters to be monitored? I have a project to monitor 300 UPS APC and 5 parameter per device and I need to confirm if it is possible !! 2- Right now, I have Observium installed on a Dell R230 server, Intel Xeon E3-1220V3 / 3.1 GHz, 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM, 2 TB hard drive capacity; I need to document or validate that Observium can be installed without problems on this server! 3- Regarding the license, How can I differentiate between a test installation and the production environment? Enhancement request

Hi, Just two small enhancement requests ;) 1) We love the Search feature to search for IPs and MACs, a true time saver. And adding the ability to sort by the columns would be fantastic. After doing a search for all loopbacks for example, it would be great if we could sort the resulting list by the "Device", "Interface", "Address" or "Description" columns. The list currently seems to sort by "Address", but alphabetically not numerically etc. Use case example, I am programming some explicit-paths for some traffic engineering tunnels, and so I need to find the loopbacks of every router along the path to which I want to fix the TE tunnel. I can search for all loopbacks no problem, but we have lots or them as routers also have multiple loopbacks.. However I am just interesting in "Lo0" on every single router. So after doing the search for all loopbacks, if we could then just click on the "Interface" column heading, that would put all the Lo0's first.. voilà :) 2) We also love the simplicity and power provided by utilizing the [] {} () brackets on descriptions to store the values into the different database fields. But the CDR [] is limited. This is probably one of the most powerful features, as it allows you to not have to configure monitoring, but instead to only configure the network and monitoring then automatically does its thing and follows the network :) We would like to do more with the [CDR] field, but are hamstrung by the fact that the CDR is not converted into bits in the database. The star feature would be to create an alert checker that fires when utilisation breaches the configured CDR. We know this has been requested and requires some code reworking.. We just wanted to add our names to the list of users after this feature. Thanks again for your time and creating such a great project. Because it is so good we still have on our roadmap a desire to put in some time and effort to contribute to the project, and figure out all the OIDs and their mappings etc and attempt to write a page for showing LDP neighbours and various other MPLS things. The original design of Observium was to enforce valid hostnames. We no longer enforce this for adding devices (because some networks are run by insane people who like looking at huge lists of nearly identical IPs), but a lot of the autodiscovery code still uses sysName and forward dns lookups to verify if a device should really be autodiscovered. Hi Adam! I was looking at the ARP/NDP table on the Ports page of some of our machines and currently it displays the vendor of the given device in a tooltip. But it would make much more sense to display - if the MAC address is known - the machine that has the given MAC address instead. Opinion? Has this any chance to get implemented? Regards, Tylla

LDAP auth vs AD server

Hello everybody, I can't access the archives somehow, so if there's a simple direct pointer for this... I've played around with the LDAP config quite a bit now to get it to auth users versus our AD server. So far so good, the somewhat obscure OBS_DEBUG option helps. I believe (!) auth works now, but I have an interesting effect and can still not log into Observium: 1. I use my AD user and the WRONG password I get a lot of debug output, ending in - expected - "Invalid credentials". So far, so good. 2. problem upgrading subscription edition

Hello, I have problems upgrading my Observium installation, get following message when doing the svn update: svn: E155036: Please see the 'svn upgrade' command svn: E155036: The working copy at '/opt/observium/mibs/zte' is too old (format 10) to work with client version '1.9.5 (r1770682)' (expects format 31). You need to upgrade the working copy first. Any idea how to fix that the correct way? Because just doing the svn upgrade on the affected folders does not seem to do it the right way imho. A graph that doesn't quite match the data

Hello, Here's a screenshot of 2 Traffic graphs for a 10G port on a Cisco 6509. The second (week) graph seems accurate, with the spike indicating a little over 300M bits/s. The first (day) graph indicates that the same spike is only 200M bits/s. The actual numbers under the graphs agree that the max is 337.03M. Traffic Why doesn't the first graph show the actual value? Hi, port_label is cleaned field (from unusefull information), generated based on multiple possible Oids (ie ifDescr, ifName). But anyway in db such fields ifDescr and ifName stored as is without changes and can used for alerts, etc. port_label is short as possible for display in most pages. I not see reasons for keep such data ( - Printer) for display in port names. This exactly should be stored in ifAlias (wich is port description). But.. if your device not support correct ifAlias, I can try to parse ifAlias for that os. Rx/Tx Port Errors

Hello, I see several Rx/Tx port errors on my Observium. For example it says Tx: 25 on the home page, but when I click on the interface, the "Errors" graph shows me that Tx 118.69m, and I can not see anything wrong with the Tx when I check the interface errors from the router CLI. How can I verify these alarms are false positive or not? Alarms are not router specific, I got alarms from both Nokia and Juniper boxes. Best

Rancid for different devices

Wanted to check with everyone to make sure its not builtin or I'm missing something simple before I create my own script. Any way to automatically create the config to backup Cisco, Mikrotik and other devices through rancid? We have rancid setup for Cisco currently and want to start backing up our Mikrotik and Ubiquiti routers. Thanks Travis

I have CE 17.9.0 and am in the process of deploying it at my location. I have a couple of smart switches that support SNMP, but are not capable of a Port label. Thus, Observium shows the switch as Port 1, Port 2, Port 3 instead of my desired “Port 1 - Bandwidth Control” “Port 2 - Linux Server” “Port 3 - Printer” … that sort of thing. I found that I could use NaviCat to edit the MySQL database to properly label the ports, but then the next polling cycle restores the generic port label 5 minutes later. Is there any way for me to modify the polling to leave the label alone? I don’t want to look into “locking” the [port_label] field of the database tables. If I may also ask, is there any way to tell Observium that a down port is the normal (green) condition?
