multi site support?

hey, currently we are using cacti to collect snmp data but your solutions looks much better :) Currently we are collecting data from all our customers into one centralized system on one of our servers. Would it be possible to have some kind of "multi site" installation with observium to give our customers access to their data? We dont want to setup Observium for each of our customers, but want them to be able to have a look at the current state their systems. I could not find any documentation about this feature, is is possible? Ethernet Service Instance Interface Names Truncated

Am I imagining things, or did Observium previously correctly display Ethernet service instance interfaces in the GUI? I've noticed recently that all the interfaces names for service instance interfaces seem to be truncated in a few of the views Picture speaks a thousand words, where these show GigabitEthernet0/16. now, I am sure they previously would have been listed as GigabitEthernet0/16.ServiceInstance.1234 etc; [image: Inline images 1] [image: Inline images 4] Discovery debug example from the device shows the interfaces captured as the full name: ( [ifDescr] => GigabitEthernet0/1.ServiceInstance.206 [ifAlias] => Description [ifName] => Gi0/1.SI.206 [ifType] => l2vlan [ifOperStatus] => up ) If you search in the ports for for the full interface name it knows it as the right thing; [image: Inline images 2] Looks like the GUI just truncates the names? Obviously this makes it harder than it should be to identify the correct interface in the list. Any chance we can have this show the whole thing? :) Thanks, Tim C

SNMP access via poller issues

Guys, Overnight we received a lot of alerts for device going offline however these were false positives. We've found that the poller is having issues connecting to some devices. Brocade ICX Switch Cisco 2900 series RouterOS SNMP is working via snmpwalk on the machine running obs and also from other test locations however the poller times out on them. We've reset the configuration for the devices in obs however access still fails. Access appears to come and go. We've confirmed obs is up to date and have rebooted the services. Housekeeping - invalid RRD files

The instructions for the housekeeping script mention the cleanup of invalid RRD files and that doing so "requires $config['file'] to be set correctly to the path of the file magic utility." I can't find any reference to $config['file'], magic file utilities, etc. in the default config.php, my current config.php, or anywhere online, mailing list archives, etc. What is this in reference to? It doesn't seem to be set anywhere. Did I miss something? Consequently, whenever I run `housekeeping.php -r` with that option defaulted to TRUE, the process hangs and doesn't seem to do anything. Setting it to FALSE immediately deletes stale RRD files (by time via $config['housekeeping']['rrd']['age'] = timeInSeconds;) and completes the process. I checked housekeeping.log and there are no entries for 'invalid' (what I assume an invalid RRD file would log based on the rrd.inc.php module) and my log file goes back to 2014, so I know I’m not missing something that has rotated out. I'm running 0.16.3.7663 for reference.

Hello everybody, Im new to this mailing list and also to Observium. Im just another SysAdmin trying to monitor as many devices as we can in our company (Nagios is still doing his job fine), so we started trying Observium just to see if it was worthy or not. Delay on down devices

backup script for db, config.php, rrd/

Hi all, I spent my Sunday afternoon (on-call, luckily quiet though :) writing this backup script for Observium. It takes a backup destination directory and number of backups to keep using rotation which is 0 by default. Then it makes a tmp directory. It copies config.php there, does a mysql dump, and copies rrd/ into the tmp directory. It tars up the tmp directory into a tarball in the backup directory and deletes the tmp directory. It is meant to run from the scripts/ directory, it maybe isnt as polished as the other main scripts or compatible with all systems because of different options with the commands it runs. Its working for me though on my Ubuntu 14.04 test system. Please offer suggestions! Thanks. -Nick

Changing the Mysql connections graph format

Hi, I found the Mysql connections graph a little difficult to read. So I changed it to use lines instead of stacked area. It is still not perfect because of the huge scale imposed by drawing the maximum number of connection and maximum number of connection reached. But at least you can actually read the value of your spikes of connections instead of working out the difference between the number of connection + max number of connection reached. Howto Integrate observium alerts with external event monitoring tool

good morning everyone, We're evaluating to use observium as our hardware monitoring solution for some datacenters, but we need to clearly understand how can we integrate the generated alerts in the tool with external event monitoring solutions that are the ones used by our Operation Center guys. I guess that we can run queries against the mysql table hosting such events, is there any other possibilities? Maybe interact with mysql DB is the recommended way, that way can any of you share with me the data model of such table? Avoid adding round robin dns devices

Hi, I have some devices that are configured with a round robin DNS entry. I believe that as we are running lldp on servers too, the auto discovery pick them up and add them. But as the picture below shows, this is pretty much useless as each polling end up on a different server. (You can see that the sysdescr and sysname contains contradictory data : lxfer01 and lxfer02) Would it be possible to detect that the FQDN is a round robin alias and avoid adding it as a new device ? And it would be perfect if it could be the same for CNAME as well, as it is not really worthwhile having Observium polling a node for each of its aliases. Hi All, Some week ago i wrote a mail because we found an alert bug and we got lot of mails (in every 5. minutes) instead of just 1 in 24 hours. This Observium was an updated from the 2015.07 CE to the latest (CE.0.16.1.7533). We thougth that the problem was because of the upgrade process and the alert function was new and something went bad.... Now i made a clear install of the latest Observium CE from .tgz. I added only one host, add the same alert, and i’m receiving again the alerts mail in every 5. minutes. I didn’t touch any file just the config.php because of the SQL access of the Observium! I added a host (emaussw01). It is a Cisco Nexus device with 7 FEX modules. I see the temperatures of FEXs (4 values from every FEX) all is under 50C but not one module. This module are the "FEX-111 Module-1 Die-1". This is over 50C. Alert Checks on Observium reports device down when they are actually not

Hi Team, I have setup the following Alert on my Observium device. See attachment (Alert_DeviceDown). I sometimes get the alerts that the device is down . See attachment (Devices_Down). However, the devices were actually not down. So most likely it is the Server on which Observium is install, do not get a ping response from the switch(device we monitoring). I ran MTR tests between the Observium server and switch in question, I don't see any packet losses, but I do see average RTT of 0.2 ms and worst RTT as 3.8 ms. So, is it possible when Observium does not get a ping response from the switch in the desirable amount of time, it marks it DOWN. How this desirable amount is calculated. Is there way we can edit this? Or is there any other recommended way for monitoring the devices? Thanks! CE-edition; Sorting of Health-status columns?

Is it a design-choice to not being able to sort by columns in the Health page? As in ... Sort ascending/decending by Memory Usage, Toner usage, CPU etc. This is CE edition. -- Pål R.

db.log full after upgrade to Observium CE 0.16.1.7533

After upgrade, all seemed well until my disk filled up. db.log contains countless entries about unknown columns. A couple examples are below. I completed the schema update and full discovery at the end of the upgrade process per: http://www.observium.org/docs/updating/ <http://www.observium.org/docs/updating/>. Rerunning discovery.php -u says my schema is up to date. But something isn’t right. Is there a way to force the schema update to run again? Perhaps that will install all the missing columns?
