VLAN Bandwidth Measuring Support

Dear, guys. We are using H3C 5820 switch (comware) and currently now observium supports it pretty well, however a feature it is missing, is the bandwidth measuring for the Vlan-Interfaces this switch have. Is there any way it could be implemented ? Sincerely, -- Fred Pedrisa

Large number of defunct shell processes

Hello. We're running Pro build 6606 on an Ubuntu 14.04 machine. I'm consistently seeing large (>100) numbers of defunct processes lingering on the box. Infiniband adapter on linux hosts

Hi all, I would like to know if any of you have been able to monitor Infiniband traffic on Linux hosts with Observium. I have added some nodes with Mellanox cards (MT27500 [ConnectX-3]) to Observium but it seems to see them only when they are configured for Ethernet traffic. I have no issue monitoring Infiniband switches (mostly Mellanox SX6012 ) but is there a way to display Infiniband traffic from a Linux box in Observium ? Best regards, Louis

Dual Purpose Interface

2960X switches and newer styles of switches have dual speed SFP slots. On my 2960X I have switched from 1GIG SFP to a 10GIG SFP. This changes the ports from GigabitEthernet to TenGigabitEthernet. In the switch config now the GigabitEthernet ports are gone (they get removed from running config) and now TenGigabit Ports are present and in use. Observium still shows both types of interfaces present, and there is none to delete under ports. It also doesn’t show that the TenGig port is up even though it is up. Whats the best way to handle this? Delete/re-add switch? New 6500-E Module

After adding a new 6500 module to multiple Cisco 6504-E (added WS-6816-10G) the module shows up in Observium after being polled as expected. The issue is the module isn’t being updated. Ports that are up are showing as disable/down it is also not drawing graphs as its not seeing it as up. The port is actually up and passing traffic but that is not being reflected in Observium. The only thing that fixes this is deleting/re-adding the device. Observium team and community, My apologies if this has been pointed out, but I didn't see it in the most recent e-mails for the mailing list. We're running 0.15.7.6605 of Observium, and our smokeping tab has recently disappeared. We could rollback to see what version it vanished from, but I wanted to reach out first. Dear today's person who asked to be unsubscribed from a mailing list that has an unsubscribe function baked into it, Don't be that guy, guy. Here's a handy dandy guide for you and everyone else who's brain is gradually formulating a thought about this topic, before we get another raft of "I TOO WOULD LIKE TO BE UNSUBSCRIBED FROM RECEIVING THESE MESSAGES IN MY COMPUSERVE I DO NOT WANT ANY VIAGRA" emails like last time this happened. Q1: Have you *tried* to unsubscribe yourself? If no: There's a link at the bottom of every email you've received from this list (hint: http://postman.memetic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/observium ), and at the bottom of the page that results from clicking on that link is a section that you will likely find relevant to your interests. Like most sane/legitimate mailing lists, the List-Unsubscribe header is also set in the mail headers of every message you receive via this mailing list: List-Unsubscribe: <http://postman.memetic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/options/observium> - which takes you to a specific unsubscribe page. If you don't know your mailman password, reset it. The button to do that, is like, right there, maaaaan. If yes: Proceed to Q2, brave traveller. Steel yourself, the next step possibly requires reading message headers. Grab a Snickers (DISCLAIMER: Ask your doctor if Snickers is right for you). Q2: Have you checked you're trying to unsubscribe the address you actually are receiving mail for? Perhaps you're receiving mail for an alias rather than your pimary mailbox address? The message headers should tell you what this is if you can't see it any other way (look for "for <email(a)address.org>" in a "Received:" header close to you). If no: Check, and if necessary, unsubscribe again, but with the right address this time. If yes: Congratulations! You are possibly a special snowflake and possibly have an actual problem that possibly requires someone else's help, possibly, and you should have provided all this information up front to prevent being ridiculed... except you're still telling a bunch of people who can do nothing to help you. Mail the list administrator directly (who's contact email you can find on the above mentioned pages) telling them what you've tried to do, and what the email address is that is receiving the mails from the list, and then they can help you. Adam loves to help. It's practically his middle name. By now, you have now successfully unsubscribed from a mailing list.. unless Adam doesn't like you and is keeping you on the list just to torment you for some sick twisted reason (less common than you might think). A+ super great job! Auto Discovery/Automate adding devices.

Hello Team, Please can you assist me with the auto discovery. It's not working... :) I read in a mailing list archive dated Nov 2014, that it actually doesn't work? Is this still the case? Can I write my own script that adds devices from the backend? Should I use an API call or can I insert into the database directly? Further to that, 1. What happens if I try to add the same device again? Thinking from an automated system, the same hostname might have multiple interfaces that it is reachable on? 2. What happens if we change a device's host name - does observium create a new device? What is best practice when administering the system wrt device swop outs or hostname changes? Regards, Rudolf

Hi everyone, I can´t access our new test installation. I don’t have any Apache knowledge and I guess that´s where the problem lays. I tried to create a vHost, as well as I tried to follow the instructions from the how to page regarding /etc/apache2/sites-available/default <Directory /opt/observium/html/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Require all granted </Directory> Without any success. Device Alerts on the Frontpage

Guys, I have a question regarding alerts showing up on the frontpage. I have alerts coming to me via email when I have a alert checker looking at the memory going above 50% (testing this operation). But on the frontpage I do not see this show up in either the status boxes or under the device alerts section. I search around and can not find anything that I changed that would prevent this from showing up on the frontpage. I am sure I did something, but just not sure what? Any pointers or direction to start looking would be appreciated. Thanks, Aaron

Linux Memory Alerts

Hi all, We're running PE 0.15.7.6539, it seems no matter what I set thresholds for on memory utilization for cached (I can ignore this..) and physical memory. I can look at the graphs and set thresholds to 90-95% and always get alarms. Any ideas or advice? virtual hosts stats

All, Is it possible to display traffic for several hosts ? Now I can see only the compete traffic for the http service, I would like to see the traffic for each virtual host. Or give me some pointers to get me on the way, BTW i’m not a programmer only a system engineer. Thanks

Dear Observium Team,, We need your support on this, we try to install MIB's from Eltek(power supply tool) in Observium. We did receive the MIB's from Eltek. After install the MIB's and reboot we see that the system is trying to Read the Eltek MIB's but we see that OID's in the system are not recognized. Is there a way how we can solve this problem, do we need to add some script in Observium to make it work? You support is more than welcome! Kind Regards, Dave Bats

mysql_fetch_array replacement?

Hi, After the SVN up on the 18th July the script we use for generating the Smokeping targets stopped producing any data (the list of slightly reformatted hostnames). DD-WRT question

Hi, I run Observium on my home network, so appreciate the CE Edition (CE 0.15.6.6430). I have 2 dd-wrt based switches, and I remember when they were first discovered by Observium quite a while back, they displayed a dd-wrt logo on the device list. This hasn't occurred for a while now, and I just was interested to know if it is possible for this to happen? Screen shots attached fyi (hopefully they won't get stripped). This is a very minor question (hope the "noise is okay"), but if anyone has an answer I'd appreciate it. -- Regards, Roland Hill

Scaling adjustment for UPS sensors

Hi, Is there a way to adjust the re-scaling for auxiliary UPS sensors? We’ve just been given some external sensors for our Riello units to play with; and whilst Observium can indeed see them, their temperatures are out by one decimal place: [cid:image001.png@01D0B4D2.A73E1560] (it should be 19.5C, obviously) The RH is fine interestingly, and this is only affecting the ‘external’ sensors in the NetMan card, not the built-in sensor. Interestingly, Riello also give out the ‘chassis’ temperature under the ‘battery’ temperature OID, which is why it shows our batteries as 27 degrees, they are not - and this is not Observium’s fault ☺ Anyway, is there a manual ‘tweak’ to correct the scaling for the temperature? We saw the same thing when we tested SolarWinds, so it’s definitely on the HP side. Pending me to get HP to actually fix the bug, can you think of a way I can suppress these messages, either filtering them out or limiting the SNMP response? We recently installed Observium and we’re receiving messages from the majority of our C7000 Virtual connects in the event log that look like this: 2015-07-03 06:28:32 lag27 Interface changed: [ifSpeed] 10000000000 -> 40000000000; [ifHighSpeed] 10000 -> 40000 2015-07-03 06:23:31 lag27 Interface changed: [ifSpeed] 40000000000 -> 10000000000; [ifHighSpeed] 40000 -> 10000 2015-07-02 23:58:34 lag27 Interface changed: [ifSpeed] 10000000000 -> 40000000000; [ifHighSpeed] 10000 -> 40000 2015-07-02 23:53:38 lag27 Interface changed: [ifSpeed] 40000000000 -> 10000000000; [ifHighSpeed] 40000 -> 10000 These VC’s have a 4 port LACP group to the core switch. I see nothing in the system log on either side that would indicate the interface speed is actually changing (link downs, errors) or other SNMP errors, so I’m inclined to think these message can be ignored. Any thoughts? If it’s a bug in the HP SNMP implementation on the VC’s I can submit a ticket. Otherwise I’d like to find a way to suppress them if I can.
