Hello, I am using the observium professional edition and I’ve been looking into configuring IP SLA on all my cisco devices to monitor our WAN. I have the following config on two devices to just test the waters Destination device config ip sla responder source device config ip sla 1 udp-jitter 10.34.36.2 16384 source-ip 10.34.36.1 frequency 300 ip sla schedule 1 start-time now My question is what does the community do as a best practice for IP SAL configurations. As I have it configure now it’s send 10 packets every 5 minutes. This seems like a bad idea because what if there was a network blip between the 5 minute run time? If there was packet loss I would like observium to detect it, and send out an alert. Do I need to configure the ip sla service to constantly run? And if so how do I make sure all that data is there when observium polls it next. —Jeff

Grouping devices by location

Good Morning/Afternoon, We are currently trialling Observium on several of network components and so far are impressed with the community version however threshold and state alerting is an important feature that would complete the package for us and enable us to deploy it network wide. With Careflight being a non-for-profit organisation and the IT department being a ‘cost’ department our budget is heavily scrutinised and any cost has to be suitably justified. Although we are impressed with Observium and believe it would be a great solution for monitoring our remote sites throughout Queensland, unfortunately we doubt that the cost would be approved by the higher powers as this is something that is currently ‘out of budget’. So this leads us to ask, would it be possible to get a discount/donation on the subscription charge for the professional version of Observium for CareFlight? Hello, anybody else seen a Problem with Observium and Switchports been displayed with the wrong Vlan (off by one)? This happens with Observium CE 0.14.11.6000 Observium says in the view "device/device=229/tab=ports/": Port 28 VLAN 999 29 VLAN 507 30 VLAN 999 31 VLAN 999 under Eventlog: 2015-05-26 16:01:35 29 Interface changed: [ifVlan] 999 -> 507 But it was Interface 30 that was configured. In previous Version this Problem didn't existed. Does somebody knows a solution for this? sincerly, Jordan

Hi All, is anybody else having issues buying a subscription i’ve just gone to renew my subscription using the new panel and it has just completely fucked up! 1. enter Companys VAT number, price doesn’t change, still £180 2. just says Thank you for payment and page was blank 3. client area still showing no subscription 4. Friendly Names for Ports

I checked the Observium netiquette - I did not see a "please do not repost questions." - If I'm breaking an unwritten rule then I do apologize. Does anyone know if there is a way to apply a friendly name to ports? It does not appear possible in the Community Edition front end, however, is it possible to do this via the database? poller-wrapper and python3

Hi, some modern system (like ubuntu 15.04) used python3 by default. Since old poller-wrapper not compatible with python3, today I added experimental *poller-wrapper3.py* which should work with both (2.x, 3.x) python versions. Check wich default python version used in your system: /usr/bin/env python -V Python 3.2.3 If default is 3.x, than use new wrapper in your crontab. Note, in python3 required additional PyMySQL module (since MySQLdb unavialable for python3). In ubuntu/debian install by this cmds: sudo apt-get install python3-setuptools sudo easy_install3 pip sudo pip3 install PyMySQL How to install on other systems I do not know, welcome your tips. -- Mike Stupalov http://observium.org

What SHA and AES does Observium use?

What are the key lengths of these algorithms that Observium uses? I have some firewalls, which require to set explicitly which algorithm they have to communicate with Observium. However, I cannot make it work, even though I tried all the key lengths on my firewalls. I am having trouble using SNMP v3 on the following devices: HardwareSummit X440-48tOperating SystemExtreme XOS 15.3.1.4 patch1-19 (nossh) HardwareSummit X440-24tOperating SystemExtreme XOS 15.3.1.4 patch1-19 (nossh) HardwareSummit Stack V2Operating SystemExtreme XOS 15.3.1.4 patch1-41 (nossh) HardwareASA5515Operating SystemCisco ASA 9.2(2)4 Observium does report that it could not authenticate. SNMP v2c works though.

How to get the same number of graphs on both Windows and Linux machines?

I have a number of Windows and Linux machines, which communicate with Observium server. Linux machines report way more information than Windows. Is it possible to get more data from Windows machines? The following data I get from Windows machines (System tab for example): Running Processes Users Logged In Memory Pool Usage Processors Filesystem Usage Device Uptime The following data I get from Linux machines (System tab again): Running Processes Users Logged In Memory Pool Usage Processors Filesystem Usage Context Switches Detailed Processors System Interrupts System I/O Activity Load Averages Detailed Memory Swap I/O Activity Device Uptime I use NET-SNMP on Linux machines and NuDesign SNMPv3 Master Agent Service on Windows machines.
