Hi I want to monitor Postgres servers and was wondering the best way to go about this. On the master server there are several clusters each with a number of databases. On the replication servers the same exists but I’d like to monitor the streaming replication delay. I’m just wondering what the best layout would be to bring the data into Observium? Windows Eventlogs and Observium Syslogs

MIB files to compile?

Hi there, this may sound a bit stupid but I need to know this for sure: MIB files in Observium don't have to be compiled but to be available under /opt/obersium/mibs/ or(!)/opt/obersium/mibs/[vendor]? Background is a strange feeling that some MIBs are not used at all - so the second question is: how to validate that Observium uses the correct ones so I can verify either that I've done something incomplete or the affected MIBs are not valid or incomplete at all. ricoh toner level 150%

Graphing Apple Airport traffic

Firstly, I have to say how impressed I am with the clean, purposeful implementation of Observium. One of the main reasons I was looking for such an SNMP network manager was to monitor my four apple airport base stations. Whilst Observium recognises such devices, and graphs the wirelessNumber from the AIRPORT-BASESTATION-3-MIB if does not graph the corresponding physicalInterfacesTable traffic. Whilst the ifTable is graphed this doesn't actually include the wireless connections. This information would be very useful to determine how many packets are being passed on the wireless interface and at what speed. I've yet to dig into the structure of the code much, but presumably the physicalInterfacesTable could be logged/graphed using code very similar to that used for the ifTable. Something that would also be very useful, would be to list the currently attached clients which could be reported in a similar manner to the ARP/NDP Table using information sourced from the wirelessClientsTable to display MAC address and speed/signal strength/noise. This information could be instantaneous rather than logged as the airport base stations appear not to actually return the number of packets passed despite the MIB supporting this. This looks like the simpler task. Finally, some might be interested in the DHCP allocations, but as I run all my base stations in bridged mode that wouldn't be of interest to be. So, before I start looking at the code, I thought I should ask if anybody is already looking into this? Thanks, Steve

Howdy folks. Can anyone please help provide me some syntax to try debugging the geocoding calls that place devices properly on the map? I'm running 2 installations[Observium CE 0.13.10.4586]: - 1 test host (geocoding works great) - 1 production host (geocoding isn't working) The prod host is behind proxies whereas the test host is not, so I'm next to 110% positive that this is what's preventing the geocoding calls from functioning, but I could use a hand in how to further debug the details of where/how it's failing. I've specified the proxy server details in the config.php file, but am not confident that connections are actually getting through. It's quite possible that the geocoding URLs are not currently permitted through the proxies. I need some more ammo though to go back to my proxy admins so that I can get their help in permitting this connectivity if it's denied. Are thereany commands I can run or debugging flags I can toggle to help extract more details? I've tried both the mapquest & google provider to no avail, so need to get deeper under the hood to troubleshoot further. Any insights or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Cheers, -Chris

You could tcpdump on both the prod and tests hosts then show the results to your proxy admins. Hi, I recently installed Observium CE and noticed some very weird behavior. Observium monitors currently 3 devices: 1 Debian Server + 1 Debian workstation + 1 Ubuntu workstation. The Debian workstation is shutdown overnight and rebooted in the morning, nicely shown in the Event logging: Shutdown: *<date time> System Device status changed to Down (ping)* Reboot: *<date time> System Device status changed to Up <date time> Reboot Device rebooted after <hours min sec> * That's all fine. But now the weird thing is that for the Server the Event log says almost at the same time: *<date time> System Device status changed to Down (snmp)* and when the workstation is rebooted, the Server Event log says at almost the same time: *<date time> System Device status changed to Up* Graphs for the server don't get updated/have data for the time the Debian workstation is down. The Ubuntu workstation runs 24/7 and graphs get properly updated during time the Debian workstation is down. I would expect that what happened with the workstation should have no effect on the data collection of the Server. Details: Observium CE 0.14.4.5229 OS Debian 7 (Server + Workstation) Ubuntu 10.40 LTS (Workstation 24/7) How do I get this working properly? Thanx, Pieter

svn 5536 apache 500?

is anyone else seeing a 500 apache error and blank login after upgrade to 5536? im not seeing anything in the logs to suggest errors, and it was working fine prior to upgrade last entry in observium.log is just prior to upgrade machine is ubuntu precise running observium on amazon ec2 beautifully. if I’m alone on this it must be the machine/instance thanks in advance NT

Odd issue with recent update - UnpingableRRD & UnpingableMySQL

All, We’ve been running Observium on Ubnutu 12.04 for a little over a year now, and after applying the latest community update, we seem to have devices periodically reporting as down. The error I’m getting is bouncing between UnpingableMySQL and UnpingableRRD. IPSec Tunnels

All, I've noticed that for Cisco ASAs the Routing--IPSec Tunnels section is not accurate. It lists all tunnels that have ever been made and marks them as active, even though the tunnel may not exist anymore. I believe that the OID shows the active tunnels is 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.171.1.2.3.1.7 Also, is there a way to alert on this list changing? Hi Guys, Would it be possible to add a new device type to Observium? We would like a device type for 'Spam Filter' devices. It doesn't have to automatically change the Type to it, we can do that manually. Monitoring Interface names

I would like to ensure that interface names conform to certain standard. I'm stuck at 'Check Conditions' phase of making an alert. If I understand everything right, then there's no ifName metric available for a match condition, or am I doing something else wrong? Any suggestions? If I'm right, then can ifName be added as a metric?

4k displays

Hi All, Are any of you running 4k displays yet? We've been thinking about how to handle larger displays and were considering jumping straight from the existing 1280px wide to 3840px rather than building a 'widescreen' mode on 1920px. I think it would be most noticeable in the amount and resolution of the graphs we could display. We could effectively fit twice the amount of data into each graph. It would probably require quite a lot of work, so it's important we get the resolution correct! (no, i don't care about your macbook pro's silly resolution) adam.
